I saw Avatar at the beginning 2010 and at the and of Avatar I felt something i ever felt in a movie. Cameron Made this movie to the best. Avatar is the most grosing box office movie. Avatar has its weak dialogues and simple and clichÃ?© story. But, otherwise, it is absolutely strong visually and "storytellingly", what TOTALLY supress its flaws. "Wow" were the first words that came out of my mouth after watching Avatar. The movie was spectacular. It created such an immense world that i could have spent those 3 hours just looking at the jungle. (IMAX 3-D seen) Yes, the story and dialogue are not 10 worthy. But the end result of what Cameron has done is. As seen in IMAX 3-D, I have to say that this is the most physically beautiful and awe-inspiring appearing "movie" ever made. Whoever is responsible for the look of Pandora is a genius of the highest order. Whoever is responsible for the look of Pandora is a genius of the highest order. The visuals and the sound are at a level that no other movie has ever even been near to. In fact, I refer to this as a "movie" because I think of it as an entirely new art form, that happens to be displayed in a movie theater. Unlike others I think the story is wonderful. To call it a conventional love story is to ignore the slightly important facts that it is love between two different species in a circumstance where that love may literally decide the fate of two different worlds. The final five seconds of this movie, once you realize what has happened to the Jake Sully character, are perhaps the most emotionally powerful moment in any movie I have ever seen. But even if you think the story is boring and stupid, this is a must see for the sight and sound of it. How will it fare on Oscar night? I think it is a cinch to win several awards. Stephen Lang deserves an Oscar for best supporting actor in an entirely non-CGI role. The two lead characters deserve a nomination, but the debate about whether CGI characters can be nominated will be a fierce one, even where, as here, the CGI beings facial expressions are actually those of the actors, captured and put into the computer. James Horner should win for best original score. It will win for best special effects, best sound editing, best film editing and, more than anything else, best art direction.. Cameron deserves a nomination for best director, although directing this "movie" is not like directing any other movie ever made. And with ten best picture nominations, this should at least get a nomination. Whatever this thing is, it is a work of real magic. It will leave you uplifted, shaken and longing for a revisit.… Expand

I was weary at first, the "smurfs" (which I called them before seeing the film) I found to be very stupid and shallow based off their depiction in the trailers alone. It seemed to be a turn-off for me at that time. Boy was I wrong. Do not let negative preconceptions flood your mind before seeing this. I was going in expecting a so-so film, but what I got out was one of the definitive cinematic experiences of my life. I can't put a rating on this film. 10 is such an understatement when describing this powerful piece of cinema. James Cameron is legendary. How he creates an amazing story, setting, soundtrack, characters, plot, and CGI experience is mind--boggling. Nothing I can say can put how I feel about this movie into words. The only thing I can say is this: Get off the computer and go watch it (in 3d). You will be dazzled.… Expand

Brilliant visuals, great storyline, and incredibly engaging. If you're going to see it, don't see the normal version. See it in 3D. See it in Imax 3D. It's amazing, and should silence all skeptics of 3D. It works.

Really a great movie... the special effects not only were absolutely amazing, they added to the story, which is very unusual in movies nowadays. The 3-D was surprisingly very cool, and not at all annoying. I didn't know what to expect coming into this film but by the time I left this instantly became my favorite movie of all time. It's got something for everyone from action, romance, deep characters, action and the most beautiful visuals ever created. I'm a huge fan of Star Wars and this one singular movie is better than every star wars movie combined! I really hope the mythology of the Na'vi and the Avatar universe is further explored in books because I want more of the mythology and the universe. We went and saw this movie at a full digital theatre, in 3-d with stadium seating and it was just a delight. James Cameron proved to me that he hasn't lost his touch and is only getting better with age. I have never seen a world so beautiful and captivating in my life. It really is a modern day Citizen Kane in terms of the quality of the story and dialogue. My fiance does not like action movies or CG movies that much at all (she prefers indie films and period pieces) so it was pulling teeth to get her to go and see it. Yet when it was over she was as mesmerized as everyone else in the theatre. This is the only time I've seen a movie that everyone stood up after it was over and applauded. There was such a buzz in the theatre after it was finished. Also, for a movie that was about two and a half hours it had perfect pacing (unlike the horrid movie 2012) and I never had that feeling that I wanted it to end or that I could guess what was going to happen next. Do yourself a favor and give an early Christmas present by going to see this treasure. This movie was the epitome of a fantastic movie. visuals: 10/10 audio: 10/10 cinematography: 10/10 acting: 10/10 dialogue: 10/10 story: 10/10 I don't have a bad thing to say about this film. It instantly became the greatest movie ever made in my eyes. Whether you like CG, aliens, sci-fi or not won't effect your enjoyment of this film. It transcends gender, age, preference, race and whatever other type of bias exist inherently in humans. Best. Movie. Ever. Made. I feel blessed to have had a chance to absorb myself into this movie. This is a day 1 blu-ray purchase for me and we plan on seeing at least two more times before it's out of theaters.… Expand

Few films resonate to the point of deep discussion for several years after release, let alone mentioned as a film that changed the industry forever, but Avatar can be counted among those rare films that does both. Special effects have finally moved beyond the cartoonish and jerky fare that have plagued Hollywood over the last decade and a half. Avatar's effects make every fiber, every figure, every plant and creature of the beautiful world of Pandora nearly as believable as our own world and it's inhabitants. In fact, you might find yourself longing for an actual trip to Pandora.But then again, the 3D edition, which is the must-see edition, gets us as close as possible to a vacation on that distant world. While the story isn't completely original, it offers a fresh and stirring take on the well traveled road of self discovery. In Avatar Jake Sully, a disabled war veteran that has recently lost his twin brother, is chosen to full fill this classic role. His brother was to be among a handful of people chosen to pilot an "Avatar", a blue skinned, 10 foot tall biotech body which has been created by the fusion of human and Na'vi DNA. The Na'vi are the native Pandorans and also guardians of Pandora's secrets. Jake initially begins as a spy, giving tactical data to military thug and antagonist of the movie, Colonel Quaritch, a tough as nails gun for hire strong enough to temporarily breathe Pandora's alien air. However Jake, through his Avatar, falls in love with Pandora, the Na'vi, and blue skinned Na'vi beauty Neytiri. His new found love and life clashes with the corporate greed of SecFor threatening Pandora which culminates in a titanic battle between alien man and native Pandoran. Throughout the course of the film, Cameron touches on several contemporary and historical issues. He confronts the evils of colonialism, the destructive nature of runaway corporate greed, questions the nature of terrorism, environmental preservationist, and ultimately questions the whole notion of identity. No doubt a huge list, but Avatar integrates them perfectly. You might of heard that this movie is a game changer from other critics and reviewers. Believe it. Avatar is a great way to end film as we know it for this decade, and is also a great way to begin film as we will know it for the next decade. Do yourself a favor and see Avatar in 3D. Unbelievable! Seemless CGI perfectly put together with the 3D, doesn't make your head hurt at all. Originality is hard to get these days, but it is supposedly part of a trilogy, so let's see how the plot is in those. I also do no Unbelievable! I have not felt this moved by a work of cinema since . . . ever. Avatar is, without I rarely write reviews. Avatar is, without question, James Cameron's greatest film. In fact would say it is clearly the best film of the year. Not only because of the fantastic 3D special effects, that create a real almost tactile environment, but because of great performances by a great cast. I don't recall ever weeping in a movie, until last night when I wept twice in this film. I have always sneered at 3D films as a gimmick, a device to poke the audience with objects shot out of the screen to wake the audience, to brake the 4th wall and make the audience jump. But Cameron did the opposite, he used the 3D effects to draw the audience into this alien yet strangely organic and realistic world. Some will criticize the story as derivative. I saw the parodied on South Park, �Dances With Smirfs.� Expand

Avatar is the closest thing most people will ever have to an "out-of-body" experience in their lives. The last time I was so totally enraptured in a film was watching 2001: A space Odyssey on acid in 1968. Regarding the plot, nobody else has used this term, so let me now say that this is an anti-imperialist film. A rapacious Terran culture visits an ecologically diverse and cooperative foreign world on an exploitative mission, and there is a conflict of cultures in which the film clearly takes the side of the natives. That is not a cliche because mainstream films have usually come down on the side of the people with the guns, and even when they have not they have usually failed to project a positive image of cooperatively based matriarchal societies. This movie is without a doubt amazing. Like everybody I was just so extremely impressed with the visuals and the amount of detail that went into them. He says really stupid things sometimes but they were extremely funny if you look at it from the perspective that they were said to make you laugh and weren't just bits of cheesy dialogue. WOW... I could not imagine a better way to end a decade of great movies (I realize there was a gap in between, but still some great movies were made). We kicked it off with the amazing Lord of the Rings trilogy, and now we end it with one of WOW... Absolutely EPIC! If you fail to see this in 3d before theatres stop showing it, I truly pity you... RealD is the technology I saw it in and you simply can't recreate the experience at home (nor would I think in the next couple years at Absolutely EPIC! Wow this movie was great. My buddys who had seen the movie first hyped it up so much that I thought it might spoil it for me but far from it I saw this movie two days in a row (once in a regular theater once in IMAX) and both viewings where Wow this movie was great. As an experience Avatar simply can't receive anything less than a 10. Visually you won't find any movie as incredible as Avatar. All those people who disagree with me and the millions of other people, critics and so on, are stupid. Lets face the facts, the movie has done brilliantly at the awards and is predicted to get even MORE awards. Theres a reason for that.... because it was an amazing movie. I think it's the best and it is personally my favourite. It has action, romance, sci-fi, comedy, adventure.... everything I would want in a movie and more. The graphics were the best I've ever seen... it's mind blowing what people can do nowadays with technology and anybody else who says otherwise about these graphics is just a sad sad person trying to be different and difficult. As for everyone slamming the political side of the movie.. it ISNT about the american government! The army in this movie is a private group hired by the mining company so your all stupid patriots who are trying to stand up for your government because your upset James Cameron makes the idea of an army look bad, when actually most of his themes are correct and if only our world could learn a thing or two from the ideas in this movie... Tough call on rating,the movie stand alone is an 8 in my opinion,but the C.G. makes this a 10. I watched this on Imax so I might be biased,But was probably the best theatre experience I ever had.

I remember pre-release talk about Avatar. People already called it a colossal failure. The idea of "blue-cat people" and a $200 million budget was probably convincing. But James Cameron delivers yet again.

Avatar is visually the most beautiful film ever made. Every piece of background is striking. The forests and mountains are created to give a unique and enchanting atmosphere rather than something earthly. The various beasts that roam are given such detail and life-like movement that even the scariest are a beauty on the outlook. Even the labs feel bright. The technology displayed leaves one in awe. It is so amazing that the idea of avatars becomes immediately delightful. And 3D? Avatar was built to look that way. Realistic fiction at its height.

The soundtrack sounds tribal and classical with the drum pounds and the orchestra pieces. And it adds to the breathtaking experience visualized in Avatar.

The storyline is pretty basic, which is a gift and a curse. It's a gift because there are no complex details to focus on. It's a curse because it is cliched. But the real reason the story falls a bit is because of a lack of full character development. Cameron unfortunately has not given enough time for the characters to grow instead he shows off the dazzling visuals. Jake Sully's transformation of character feels flawed and incomplete. At the end, it did not quite feel as though he had grown into the avatar. And the military is shown more as sadistic and greedy, something very anti-American. Sigourney Weaver's character is at first harsh and then suddenly sympathetic towards the Na'vi. That change isn't calculated well enough.

James Cameron's previous blockbuster, Titanic, was similarly criticized before and eventually acclaimed. Whereas Titanic had good story and developed characters and stunning visuals, Avatar succeeds because of the visuals solely. However, it is still a worthy movie to watch.… Expand

Re-watching Avatar on Blu-Ray (minus the 3D) proved to me that it can stand on it's own story. If you just want to see amazing visuals you’ll have a great time being blown away by this movie and forgetting for most/all of the movie how unoriginal the characters and story are. However, if characters and story matter a lot to you, you will be disappointed in this film as they are recycled from countless other films. For me I really enjoyed the visuals and they kept my interest throughout the film. The eh characters and story only took me out sometimes. So overall I enjoyed Avatar although I don’t think its great. However, the amazing 3D make this one worth a watch.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A young man named Jake Sully takes his late brother's place in a mission on a distant world of Pandora. There he learns that Parker Selfridge wants to drive the native humanoid Na'vi in order collect all the material throughout. In exchange for his legs, Jake helps his new friends use their avatar identities find the Na'vi, but he gets lost along the way and finally finds the tribe. As he begins to bond with the tribe and falls in love with the beautiful blue alien, Neytiri, little does he know that Colonel Quaritch determines the destroy the Na'vi as he rallys up the tribe for an epic war for the fate of Pandora.

I caught this in the same month it came out in 3D and was really amazed by it. Then a few months later, I saw it again in 2D that time and enjoyed it again.

I've been told by a lot of people that this movie plagerized Dances with Wolves, Pocahontas, The Last Samurai, and Ferngully: The Last Rainforest, but that doesn't apply the fact that this is different from the others. IMO, for a action/science fiction and a love movie, I liked it and I called it "One of the best movies ever made" and if some of you hate it for its plagerism, that's fine.

As for the rest of this movie, I liked a lot about it. The acting was excellent, the storyline was well-pace and put together, the visuals were very awesome to look at even though its not from Industrial Light and Magic and Sony Imageworks, the science was very interesting, the action scenes were unique and epic, and the James Horner music score (pop song "I See You" included) was memorable and had a lot of emotion to it which makes it even more memorable. Oh, and James Cameron's directing was very neat and creative, so that's worth saying much.

Avatar is James Cameron's highest grossing movie and it is in no doubt one of the best action/science fiction movies ever made. Can't wait for the sequels. Keep up the good work, James.

I know it was overhyped an'all but i really enjoyed avatar, i must say. But i preferred it without the 3D. YAY! What an awesome movie, it really had everything it needed. Intense battles, deep moments and some slightly scarey themes tied this Sci-Fi in a neat little blue bow, that also glows in the dark and is environmentally friendly.

Lives up to all the hype, a must watch for everyone. James Cameron is a genius and Avatar proves it. It's a long film but it's one of the best I've ever seen.
