Talented cast, great settings, stylishly done, with no particular reason why it was done.

(Tate Taylor) who directed this disaster should be slapped on the knuckles for this Bore! And Stop casting non-actors (Common) who only serve to ruin movies. Jessica Chastain who is a producer should have insisted on an actor not a singer to play the part. Was this nepotism or just stupid casting. I vote both! (The Last Kiss Goodnight), (Atomic Blonde) or any of (The Bourne Films) are better than this Garbage! It’s time you won’t get back!

Not a believable character. Main character cant even hold a gun correctly. Unrealistic, unauthentic.

Avoid watching this movie. Jessica Chastain is an incredible actress but she is not a believable fighter and this movie hinges on making you think that her character is world class fighter.

Always love Jessica! Good pace, and kept you involved. It was great to see Gina Davis in this as well.

This is basically Atomic Blonde 2.0. Jessica Chastain watches Charlize Theron produce and star in Atomic Blonde. She says, "I could do this; and maybe, do it better." I suspect the bad-ass female Bond-spy-assasain--done with any integrity--starts with Luc Besson's La Femme Nikita (1990), perhaps the most likely pop-culture origin of the Marvel movies Black Widow. Then we have Hanna (2011) and Atomic Blonde (2017) among a few others. Ava (2020) is in this line. It betters Atomic Blonde in its character development and sequel set-up. It falls short of Atomic Blonde in fight chereography. Jessica generously gives the best lines and good scenes to her supporting cast--not often done. Geena Davis has the most surprising character arc of the film. Jessica chose her scritpwriter with care, All Matthew Newton's scripts are about real people with real emotions--not Michael Bay cardboard cutouts. Ava is about people also, bettering Atomic blonde on this count also. Colin Farrel and John Malkovich are at their best, not phoning in their performances. The end has Jessica in an interesting feminine twist on Terminator unlike anything in recent memory and nothing like Cameron's female terminators. Nicely done I say. Good narrative set-up for a sequel. Expand

The concept has been done around 1,000,000x before and each time done better.
Anyone who gave this a positive review, at the same time must've been stunned at the marvel of a talking screen in their living room.
If you watch this after reading this review you need to institutionalize yourself now.

Saw this after avoiding it due to reviews. It was better than expected. Definitely better than WW84 and better paced. Still had some slow parts and unusual decisions but is is basically an amateur, female John Wick

But if the movie can't explain it within the movie then to me it sucks. I don't want to say what the f did I just watch & have to look up the meaning on the internet. This one was clear. For a Netflix movie it's better than others. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The part where she argues with the ex after saving him is comparable to the movie the room, terrible. Too long the drama with herself and with the secondary characters, and poor action scenes where the choreography is regrettable. the actors are all good, too much, it seems strange to me that it turned out so bad Expand

I really liked the proposal of the film, besides showing a lot of action it still develops the character well, Ava really "kick asses"

Despite the superb cast, the action is ok but the plot is wafer thin leaving the audience with little to invest in for either the hit business or the personal life of the title character. Often alluding to a tragic past which is never fully revealed outside of her being a gambler that liked to drink and was highly intelligent and skilled. Worth a watch if you like the genre enough but don't expect anything special. Expand

She is sloppy and not that good at her job, yet the opening credits seem to make the claim that she's had over 40 kills.

The ending could have been solved in the hotel as well, and was needlessly drawn out for a scene in the public.

People who are sloppy probably don't make it in the assassination buisness.

Jessica Chastain self-produces herself to give more personal and family intimacy to a character similar to that of Reeves and Theron, John Wick and Joan Wicka, but the result remains below expectations.
