Great movie. Goes in depth to the solider Chris Kyle. Honestly, I don't understand why this movie is getting so much hate. I loved every minute of it. American Sniper offers a lot of suspense and a lot of action. Is the story realistic? Is it accurate to what really happened? I don't know but as a movie, it does its job at being entertaining. It's not only a war movie but a movie about family and about what a war does to soldiers (meaning mentally as well as physically). It shows how dark war really and it doesn't necessarily glorify the American army, although I'm sure plenty of people feel that it does.This is my opinion, though, so see it for yourself if you haven't already. If for no other reason, you'll probably at least enjoy the action sequences (although I thought it was all good).… Expand

Pretty good movie I love how this movie gets you to like the charters and care about. I now that a lot of people hate this movie ( that is fine) but just because it takes place in the Iraq war does mean this movie is propaganda. This biographical film describes the military trajectory of Chris Kyle, a member of the SEAL's, the US Navy special operations unit, who was considered the most lethal sniper in American history. Over several service commissions in Iraq, heThis biographical film describes the military trajectory of Chris Kyle, a member of the SEAL's, the US Navy special operations unit, who was considered the most lethal sniper in American history. Over several service commissions in Iraq, he killed about 160 people, always in situations where he protected his own life or that of other American military personnel.

Personally, I really liked the film, I think it made a faithful account of the most important events in the life of the person portrayed and used the original material well, present in Kyle's autobiography. It was expertly directed by Clint Eastwood, who was perfectly capable of recreating the dangerous environment of the war, as well as the facts of Kyle's life. Being a film about a soldier more than about war, Eastwood focuses on his character, the portrait he wants to make of a man of integrity, brave, eager to help and make a difference. Eastwood gives us more than enough material to create a strong link between the audience and the main character, and that gives strength and sustains the film until the end. Another thing that the film shows are the psychological wounds that Kyle is having due to the war, to the point of emotionally distancing himself from his family. The film reasonably balances the portrait of a today's "war hero" with the intimate account of the secret inner pains and complexes of a man who feels that he has seen evil in its purest form.

Bradley Cooper was competent in the task of bringing Chris Kyle to life. As far as I was able to understand in the readings and research I do when I want to see a film I don't know, Cooper got to know Kyle and respected him a lot. It was certainly a project that he did with special commitment and affection, and this was reflected in the quality of his work. Technically, the film is flawless. Good special and sound effects, excellent sets, costumes and touches of authenticity in everything we can see. In addition to this, an excellent soundtrack.… Expand

Apart from the movies, I'm also a big fan of the Battlefield and Call of Duty game series, but now back to the movies. There has been criticism from some quarters that the larger issues of politics and the ethics of war have been largely ignored (and that will make many uncomfortable) but director Clint Eastwood has clearly set out to tell the story of one man's experience of war and, thanks to some gripping scenes and an excellent performance from Bradley Cooper, it does just that. Yes, it does become a little too 'Hollywood' on occasions, and it never quite reaches the same level of intensity or excellence achieved in Kathryn Bigelow's superb 'Hurt Locker' but its not far off on occasions and is well worth a watch.… Expand

It was good, not great. Cooper was great but it was lacking as an overall picture. He was great as a stand alone but you know neither his family life or the PTSD really was focused on/developed (i.e. everything was just touched upon). GoodIt was good, not great. Quite enjoyed this. Felt it was a bit too black and white in terms of the morality of the Us/Iraqi forces, but a good character study of the main protagonist. Also enjoyed the battle scenes and how they were interspersed with the "back home" time.

Finally last night I got a chance to watching the last film of the Mr Clint Eastwood. (One of the my popular director)
For me that Gran Torino (one of the Eastwood’s Movies) always being in my top ten choice when I make a list for best movies that I have seen so far watching American sniper was a great shock.
In Gran Torino distance between nations or better to say human more than any time seems shorter and shorter as far as Eastwood as an impatient American man who has experience war in Korea savior or better say sacrifice him for non-American boy from the same geography (east Asia)but in American Sniper Bradley Cooper in the role of Chris Kyle in response of advisor question that asks whether Sometimes think about 160 men that were killed in Iraq, Says more than that, it pains him to why more people are not killed to protect the lives of American soldiers.
Eastwood in the final scene of gran torino sending him as the old man of story to the conscious death without having weapons for that non-American boy of story could live more comfortable.
But in one of the American sniper scenes Chris Kyle in response to the cries of his wife who desperately wants him to stay with his American family rejected her request and perhaps killing Mustafa in his mind.
It’s time to put aside their weapons and ending unnecessary crisis in the world.

The film stirs a massive controversy in the states albeit it has achieved a career peak for the octogenarian film legend, as there is a pungent odour of jingoism permeating the narrative, particularly centres on its defamatory depiction of Muslin race in the Iraqi war zone, what is exacerbating is that under the current international circumstances, it doesn’t help to dissipate the acute prejudice in the stateside, pitifully, Eastwood could not been more open-minded in his well-executed anti-war drama.

Going to the cinema I thought I would watch just another Iraq war movie staring a bad-ass sniper making impossible kills. I was wrong. Although it's still a war movie I think it's one of the best of it's kind. Bradley Cooper gives a great performance both in Iraq and in America making the viewer understand the struggles of a military man who has been through hell. In addition I got attached to the secondary characters which is something a war movie rearly manages to accomplish. Overall it's a really good movie and I recommend you go see it. 7/10… Expand

Clint Eastwood applies his typical macho style to this superficially entertaining but cliché ridden war drama. Think of an inferior ‘Hurt Locker and substitute a beefed up Bradley Cooper in place of the slighter built Jeremy Renner. Think of an inferior ‘Hurt Locker and substitute a beefed up Bradley Cooper in place of the slighter built Jeremy Renner. The film’s biggest liability is the screenplay which doesn’t have an original idea through its entire running time. As usual we have to endure the obligatory scenes of boys being boys and their irritating training routines. We watch dispassionately as Cooper’s marriage to Sienna Miller begins to combust as the war and his job as a sniper take their toll. We roll our eyes in disbelief at scenes where Cooper partakes of personal phone calls to Miller whilst at work in the war zone (Would that really be allowed to happen?). The end credits inform us that this is a true story and that the protagonist, Chris Kyle, was killed by a war veteran he was trying to help. Arrogantly, though, we are not privy to any further helpful information like why and how! It’s as if Director Eastwood feels that everyone will have heard of Kyle and know his story. That maybe so in America, but unfortunately does not apply to the rest of the world.
On the plus side the film is at least never boring and is actually very well edited. Cooper is very good and Miller, despite being saddled with some truly awful dialogue and the worst written scenes (her first introduction at the bar not withstanding), also acquits herself with dignity. The Oscar nominated sound is undeserving of the laurel, and one scene in which Cooper plays around with a gun in the family home struck me as being dangerously irresponsible in a film which has undoubted commercial appeal.… Expand

First of all, this is Bradley Cooper's best performance in years, even better than Playbook and Hustle. Director Clint Eastwood emphasizes very much on the family aspect of Kyle's life. That was a bum because long scenes in the movie just focus on Taya- Kyle's wife played excellently by Sienna Miller. Even though its a touch too long, the battle sequences are some of the best I have seen, the amount of tension is unbelievable and Eastwood nails that. The film becomes ultimately a drama thats too much on the family side than on the war aspect that viewers want to see, thats not a bad thing but they could be shorter. This is a good film, despite some flaws its not only watchable, but its a reminder of American history. American Sniper gets a 7/10 from me.… Expand

I'm a liberal and I actually enjoyed this movie. I know that seems like a glowing contradiction because liberals aren't supposed to like things like this but I like to think I consider myself impartial when it comes to movies. The movie is masterfully directed by Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper does an amazing job as Chris Kyle but with that being said, American Sniper was as close as you can get to being right-wing propaganda. The first thing it does as portray the Iraqis as the bad guys who are responsible for 9/11 despite them having nothing to do with 9/11. The 2nd thing this movie does wrong is paint Chris Kyle as a conflicted soldier, where if you read his book he actually was not very remorseful about the people he killed. I mean lets be real here, Chris Kyle was an absolutely terrible person. I'll go even as far to say he was a psychopath, he said it himself that he loved killing and that he would kill anyone with a kuron which is what basically everyone wears over there. Kyle was no hero, he was a monster, a repulsive and sick man who was a pathological liar that forged his military accomplishments and kill count to sell books. He was also, however like many soldiers in the middle east were taken advantage of by Bush/Cheney's quest for "WMD"s aka oil.… Expand

I was a little disappointed by American Sniper. I figured that Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper were going to be a perfect combination for this movie, but it didn't reach my expectation. Cooper was great as he often is and although he likely won't win an Oscar for this performance it will go down as one of his greatest. Chris Kyle just had such an incredible and difficult background to jam into a 2 hour movie and I felt that they were trying to rely too much on the action and not enough on the drama. I was glad that they incorporated the effects of PTSD during this movie. Just to show that Chris Kyle had some demons. The last 20 minutes were the past of the movie that were the best.… Expand

The story is as usual a heroic tale of a Navy Seal with many tense action scenes, and quite of bit of drama as well so if u are expecting a Call of Duty shootout movie then u will be a little disappointed. Bradley Cooper is great and he deserves an Oscar for his performance. The downsides to the movie are that it is a bit long and drags on some dramatic scenes. You can feel that the movie is trying hard to fill in as many aspects of the hero's life as possible but it sometimes tries too hard and feels tedious. Still it is a good movie and well worth the $; just don't expect it to be a war movie with 100% action throughout. It is more of a biographical film of a heroic soldier and his life.… Expand

The action scenes were really well made, they looked very realistic; and it was pretty cool watching how the story is alternating between war scenes and family scenes, looking very believable and fluid. Bradley Cooper did mainly an excellent job, and all the crew also. Sadly, the main character is the only one you are going to care about during all the film, for you never really feel attached to the others, being this a big script problem, more than an acting problem. I didn`t really like how the movie is a little slow and has this grey, depressing aspect.… Expand

It seems most people's complaints are how this movie is a "patriotic, war-mongering, propaganda piece," but I didn't see that at all. Me and my wife thought that the film somewhat satired the "patriotic, war-mongering, propaganda" agenda due to the portrayal of gungho soldiers ready to get revenge for fallen comrades that ends up becoming an endless cycle of verve and loss. After all, it seems that humanity is the enemy itself, not just the Iraqi militants. Yes, the main character depicted loves and fights for his country, but the film captures his loss of humanity and purpose as the "fight for freedom" melds into a trophy hunt of revenge.

For those saying Cooper's, Chris Kyle is represented as having no depth and only as a mindless soldier, he has clear progressions and regressions of character in the movie. The effects of war dull his emotions but it's blatant that during those tours, war is home for him. This sacrifices his ability to cope and interact with civilian life, well depicted.

I do agree, however, that a movie paralleling both lives of the snipers in this film would have been great. Definitely worth a watch at the theaters or when it comes out to rent.… Expand

Look, no matter how much you hate Chris Kyle, the demonization of Muslims, Clint Eastwood, or anyone who likes this movie, that does not make this a bad movie. That said, Cooper was very believable and without his stability the movie would have failed. The Iraq action scenes were fantastic and engaging, although by Tour 4 I had had enough (probably the point, but still). The non-Iraq scenes were very flat to me. The last 20 minutes or so were even more manipulative than the preceding 90. While I honor the military and respect those who fight for their country in service, I am not sure this movie helps the cause. I think a film more centered on the PTSD and VA aspects post-war would have been more engaging, although I realize the Chris Kyle story requires build-up of his 'legend'. And why was he holding that cocked pistol on his wife at the end?… Expand

Didn't know what to expect from this film when I pressed play, but overall it was a pleasant experience. Bradley Cooper gives a solid performance throughout (and has beefed up big time for this one). The end brings the movie together really nicely.

This may be expected from an Eastwood film, however, it's clear that not only is the moral quandry not central to the plot, it is also treated with disdain in the dialogue, which may play well for an American audience, but smacks of the 'MURICA mentality rather than good storytelling. The cinematography was good, although it got pretty dark during that sandstorm climax. The acting was also good, but definitely not one of Cooper's best. The main problematic thing is the story and its coherence. The viewers are left baffled when it comes to the timeline of the film, and I think it has to do with the editing. By trying to force Chris Kyle's incredible life story into a 2+ hour traditional film format, the story did little to no justice on Kyle's impressive accomplishments, both militarily and as a man. The result was a very jumpy and shallow viewing experience where you didn't feel a connection to Kyle's SEAL teammates or his wife, Taya. The actors, namely Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller, did the best job they possibly could've done with the script they were given. The script was the best it could've been when trying to fit into the cliched 2-hour time slot. But it all comes back to the decision to make this into a movie. It just wasn't possible. There were also some directorial decisions that I found highly questionable but they weren't major nor were they things most people would either pick up on or care about. Ultimately, this review should end on a high note though, so I will point out the strongest element of the film: the ending. The closing 10+ minutes are incredibly moving and deliver, what I believe was the entire purpose of the film itself. They leave you in awe of the man, the myth, the legend. The decision to leave the remaining credits without audio was also a genius decision. I've never left a theater and felt like I was leaving a funeral. I believe that is the appropriate feeling that this movie should portray and I commend Clint Eastwood for making that so.… Expand

On the plus side, Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller are really good and work very well together. They make for a very believable couple. In terms of Cooper alone, he certainly embodies Chris Kyle and just kills the part. He is fantastic. I really dug the fighting scenes as well. I thought they were all very well done and well shot. Dramatic, entertaining, and saddening, they all made a lasting impact that makes any scenes with PTSD very believable. The supporting cast was also relatively well done. You did feel that sense of brotherhood amongst the Navy Seals that made you understand the passion they felt for defending their fellow soldiers.

On the negative, I can see why many would call this pro-war and pro-America. A couple times for sure, this one portrayed the Americans as superheroes of sort who are indestructible, while casually overlooking the fact that they were all as blood thirsty as their enemy. They demonize an enemy sniper when Chris Kyle is literally the same guy, but he's an American so it's all cool. It is kind of weird, but is to be expected from a book written by Kyle himself. The pro-war aspect is undoubtedly entirely a Kyle contribution, due to how psychotic he was and how much he loved killing. While it does add in some guys struggling with PTSD and of course people who die or who are seriously wounded, the sheer joy Kyle gets from war is obvious. I would categorize this one all the same as anti-war, however, because of those aforementioned supporting characters who seem far more human and far more willing to show how war effects them. In Kyle's relationship with his wife, you can also see a lot of the anti-war element.

Overall, American Sniper is a solid war film that comes nowhere close to being as good as war films such as The Deer Hunter, Full Metal Jacket, and Saving Private Ryan, that deal with similar topics (obviously) and do so much, much better. However, it is acceptable and a good modern day war film, as the genre has been slacking of late.… Expand

I thought it portrayed the nature of modern battle and the Iraq environs reasonably well (not having any first hand experience or anything). It was tense at times, but also a long grind, and that is true to form. Some of the moments where soldiers get shot or are in the hospital afterwards are effective and feel real (and that I do have secondhand experience with).

The movie's flaws are two. The first is the inevitable Hollywood-ization. Not being sure when I watched it, I checked, and the notion that he had a "white whale" enemy sniper that haunted him throughout four tours and that he had to kill to feel complete as a soldier is made up. Some of the romance is treacly, the training scenes are trite, and the jeopardy (while there surely was a lot in real life) is trumped up at times.

The second and more profound one is that the film reflects what seems to be the bias of the autobiographer himself. His motivations are always pure. The bad guys are always bad. Every shot he takes is a good shot. His leadership, his fathering skills, and his relationships with other soldiers bring nothing but positive reactions. He struggles, but he's always the good guy. I don't doubt that the truth is that he did some good things, but I can't imagine that it's that simple, and reading into what is known about the man suggests that he wasn't entirely honest (and indeed was sued successfully for lying in his book; the movie doesn't cover that) and he bought completely into the narrative the film presents-the idea that Iraq was a justified response to 9/11 and that the war was for a reason-which we now know is a lie and lead to a disastrous conflict that was mismanaged at every turn and accomplished nothing.

Which takes me back to the beginning: American Sniper is likely exactly what its subject character wanted to say-the sheep/wolf/sheepdog story at the beginning seems so sum his philosophy all up-and in a way it's good that his perspective is being represented. Certainly our veterans deserve a voice in public discourse. But honestly, I'm not sure about what this particular voice is saying. Watch it, and decide for yourself.… Expand

The dialog was pretty typical. Still can't get over the un-menacing do-rag'd appearance of the ultimate enemy constantly disappearing into the dusty background.

Overall, I think it's worth a look though. It had a lot of patriotic themes, but by no means does it glorify war or killing. Many of the characters are conflicted over their actions. Having said that, all this nasty guttersnipe directed at the memory of Chris Kyle is horsesh*t. And kudos to Mr. Eastwood for having the courage to make a move which honestly portrays some of the aftermath our soldiers deal with. You can be liberal and/or anti-war but still respect the service and sacrifice of our brave men and women!… Expand

2015 Best trailer all the way. The movie? well i ve seen "the very bad guy" ruin movies like The Untouchables & here he does it again. When you have a solid true story you dont add a Batman kind of enemy because it become obvious that you added it.

One comedian on the Nightly Show described it as "duck hunt but with Iraqis", and that wasn't an unfair assessment. Even in the rare moments that interaction occurs between the American forces and the people they're invading, the Iraqis invariably turn out to be trying to kill the Americans, a simplistic and uninteresting way to portray them, since the Americans are the only good guys. The enemy sniper, who is intended to be the foil and rival to the American Chris Kyle, is nothing more than a cardboard cutout of a cartoonish villain, complete with long eyelashes and a headscarf. Especially since our protagonist never entertained any doubts about the essential goodness of what he was doing in Iraq, it felt like a simplified and one-sided story about the war.… Expand

It's an action movie with something to say. It's also a drama with barely anything to say at all. Cooper pulls off an impeccable performance as Chris Kyle, which cements the young actor as one of the most consistent working today. His work doesn't save this film however.

Chris's actions, as a character, seem to be morally ambiguous, but what worries me is all of the Kyle fans that will go see this movie. Will they interpret everything Kyle says as morally distinguishable fact? Or will they see him as a character, and judge some of his beliefs as wrong? Eastwood seems to display some of Kyle's radical beliefs towards Muslims as a people without contradiction.

The technical aspects of the film were almost perfect. But some foolish choices when it comes to some of the writing decisions, such as trying to turn what could have been a polarizing thought-provoking character into an easy to relate to southern family man with a big heart, the story suffered.

If you want to go into the effects of war on the psyche and conscious, don't make it seem as an entire race of people is expendable and can be blown away without consequence or a second thought. There was a chance in this film where a Muslim family "hosts" soldiers for dinner. The family is later revealed to have evil intentions. It's missed opportunities to make a solid point that is ditched in order for a more simple, redundant point that make this film simply okay.… Expand

For starters I am navy combat veteran though I never came under enemy fire, much less experienced anything remotely reminiscent of what CK underwent. I have read the book a couple times and the thing that gets me about the book is how much (in spite of our very different experiences) I related to his experience and to him personally. I didn't get that with the movie. The impossible task of adapting an autobiography for film is the inability to capture the voice in the authors head. I also was distracted by Bradley Cooper as CK which isn't any fault of Mr. Cooper's other than being a familiar face. Time constraints obviously meant that large swaths of the story had to be cut, but I would have preferred tackling fewer accounts but developing them completely. Chris Kyle was far to complex a man to have his life told in cliff note form. I also was distracted by some Hollywood bad habits as pertains to gun play but nobody but a nerd like me cares about that stuff.
I was so invested in this being good that I had nowhere to go but down.
My favorite part of the film was the news footage at the very end. That could have easily been a mini documentary in it's own right I would have stayed an extra hour to watch.
I guess to sum up I anticipated getting emotional during the film but it wasn't until the credits that I shed a tear.… Expand

I read the book, and was aware of his murder within a few hours the day it happened. I had high hopes from viewing the trailer to the movie. This movie was "OK" for those who follow that detail! As with "Lone Survivor" this was a good movie! And brought the story to a much wider audience! But it could have been so much better! And why did Eastwood choose to Wussify Kyle's Brother? Just doesn't make sense really! You die hard weapons and Tactics guy's might want to wait for DVD!… Expand

Mediocre... Mildly entertaining, nothing new or very fresh here. A good performance by Bradley Cooper but let's face it, the lead character is fairly one dimensional so that wasn't exactly a stretch.

And I don't feel the direction was especially crisp either. However it's clear we are supposed to view Kyle as an all American hero. While his counterpart, the other sniper who does exactly the same job as him is patently a savage.

I read Kyle's book before I saw this movie and I know Eastwood has selectively ignored Kyle's complete psychopathy which was readily apparent from his own words in the book and instead attempted to portray him as an empathetic family man which I never felt from reading Kyle's words. This man loved to kill people, pure and simple. That was his motivation.

Live by the sword, die by the sword... And i could hardly feel any emotion or sympathy for someone who clearly took pleasure from killing others.… Expand

The biggest problem of the movie is the annoying nationalism (no, it is not patriotism). Although there are some critical scenes in the movie, overall it is very one-sided and it is clear, who is holy and who is evil. In addition I would like this movie more, if they show us more about the psyche of the characters and for example, why the veteran shot him.

But still there are some good sides of the movie: The development of the main character is interesting. The wide perspectives during the action are great, much better than fast edited scenes from the near. Some scenes are great, because you ask yourself, what would you do? pull the trigger?… Expand

I held off writing this review, because of the Oscars and the highly politicized nature of the topic. But, I can wade in now. As a veteran of the Iraq War, I can say the movie was mediocre. The minutiae was right, almost spot on, but theI held off writing this review, because of the Oscars and the highly politicized nature of the topic. But, I can wade in now. As a veteran of the Iraq War, I can say the movie was mediocre. The minutiae was right, almost spot on, but the protagonist was simplistic to the point of idiocy. It does a great job of summing up the experience of a generation. Partying, no care in the world, then 9/11 and an urge to serve. To the streets of Baghdad and the brown desert air.

What it doesn't do a good job is showing any reaction in Kyle. He just is. No reasoning to be a SEAL (Trust me, 3 hours of freezing your balls off will make you quit if don't have a damn good reason). No introspection when he plugs a kid, when his wife pleads with him to come home, or when his teammates die. He just grunts and says "God, Country, Family.." The characters around him are so much more interesting and more deserving of a movie. Kyle is just super-soldier, who grunts at the sign of danger and leads his flock (to an early death most often). He lacks any introspection.

Add the fact that it is pretty one-sided, etc. It just lacks all depth. I just don't get the idea that Kyle was anything more than a simpleton with a gun. I haven't read the book, and with all the stuff that has happened afterwards, I'm not sure I want to. I've met enough Psychopaths and simple minds in the military. I can understand, but I can't condone blanket racism or psychopathic blood lust. But I understand what part of the soul those things arise from. Of course, I believe that most people don't succumb to those things. Kyle seems to be the kind of person who did succumb.

Overall, I'm glad the movie was made. It does at least portray the Forest Gump version of the Iraq War, and start the conversation. It's better to know that those who did not volunteer actively hate you, than to assume they just couldn't run a mile. I'm glad the chicken hawks have a new Rambo to pretend to be on the weekend. Finally, I'm glad that at least America cares again, while somewhere in Afghanistan, heroes are still doing dangerous things while we watch insipid movies. I just hope no one asks me what shooting kids was like after this....… Expand

As a fictional character-focus set withing a war film Eastwood's American Sniper is grade A, albeit lowbrow, cinema. However, this is not a fictional tale or at least its not supposed to be. THe Iraq war really happened and the main character Chris Kyle, who's book the film was based, was a real person whom met a tragic and ironic end.

Eastwood's portrayal of Chris Kyle as a saintly soldier who feels at war with himself when home and at home when at war is an overdone and oversimplified amalgamation of every war-hero protagonist of this genre of film. Chris Kyle's actual book and subsequent interviews reveal a much more conflicted, complex and interesting character. Kyle's allegiances, honor and duty stand in contrast and conflict with his biases. Not only does Kyle use slurs to describe Arabs in his book and elsewhere, he also makes no distinctions between combatants and civilians. Instead of exploring this aspect of Kyle and how it informs his experience, Eastwood decides to translates this contradiction in the most condescending of ways--Every Arab in his film is either evil or one dimensional: a psychopath, a corrupt interpreter, a sympathizer with--or combatant for--the enemy.

In the end Eastwood's American Sniper is country-friend propaganda, unapologetic in its revision of the Iraq War as a just war, not to mention a missed opportunity to tell the true story of a conflicted and complex soldier who was both a leader and pawn; hero and villain --someone who was human.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is I suppose a decent war film (drama/thriller), although it did feel quite cliched to me I suppose. I would have liked to have seen more emphasis on said sniper trying to adjust to life as a civilian after finishing his tours of duty, rather than the many war related action type scenes, which were (inevitably) shown. Said scenes felt cliched and predictable to me - perhaps not entirely but mostly in any case. I didn't feel especially engrossed in it to start with but as the plot develops and we see the titular character returning from action and coming to terms, if but slowly, with what he'd done and becoming accustomed to civilian life, it felt more intriguing. Its true to say that there were some pretty tense moments during war action scenes at times, when said sniper became at risk of comitting certain things and I found myself concerned for what might happen but, as I say at other times it seemed a bit too predictable (grim).

Its a sobering watch - it was a bit too slow to build up the plot for my own personal taste and it isn't what I'd call a great film, or very good as such but its ok. I'm not sure I'd specifically recommend this as such, its not awful but its also not great, hence my 5 out of 10 rating.… Expand

I feel sad that this movie is doing well. Not because its a bad movie. I can live with crap making money. What I CAN'T deal with is the crazy patriotism "movement" this movie is somehow bringing up. Because of it's blandness and lack of punch, it seems that most people interpret it as some kind of reassurance. Painting us as the good guys and anyone with a turban on their heads as terrorists. It pains me to think people genuinely believe this movie is about patriotism and righteousness, when it clearly isn't.

To be clear: I don't hate this movie because I'm anti-american. I don't hate it because its an objectively bad film. I don't even hate it because of its lack of patriotism or clear message. I hate it because it allowed people to spill out their blind, hate filled rage at others and still manage to make them seem and feel in the right.… Expand

However, he still acts fine in the film really! There wasn't any real stand out scenes in this movie either really, and i found the whole back and forth war to home transitions a little forced. Also, the villains they make in the film feel unnecessary and kinda stupid. I'm pretty sure they weren't in the book either and apparently the film just takes a big dump on the source material. The film is still decent enough to watch, but it is so propaganda orientated and a bit dull. I wanted to really see how Chris Kyle evolved. The ending was pretty meh also. I wish they could have honoured the soldier a little better than this film does!… Expand

This movie is a war propaganda movie. If you think showing dead bodies with blood and having one character against war itself is considered enough an anti-war movie, then I am afraid you’re wrong. I believe that the director of the movie Clint Eastwood is an anti-war person despite being a Republican and he tries to deliver his anti-war message to the audience. But when the message is lost in the audience and instead encourages more war and Islamphobia, then I am afraid his so-called anti-war message is not delivered clearly.

Speaking of Clint Eastwood, his direction in this movie is okay. I have seen far better directing on war movies.

The characters in the movie are utterly unlikable and uninteresting. The main character Chris Kyle is really hard to sympathize and relate to especially that the Chris Kyle in real life turns out to be a huge dick. Despite that, Bradley Cooper delivers a really good performance that it’s almost uncanny to the real Chris Kyle.

Not all movies based on a real person has to be accurate but when this movie made Chris Kyle a hero with little to no flaws when he is a huge dick in real life like I said earlier, that kind of inaccuracy is unfair and biased.

The only parts I liked about this movie was how Chris Kyle dealt with his PTSD and it felt realistic without being over the top. However I feel like these scenes were underdeveloped and I needed more of him struggling with his PTSD.

Lastly, I don’t think this movie is worthy a Best Picture nomination for this year’s Oscars. It’s just another war movie that brings up nothing new to the table. It’s just overrated in Oscar terms for me.

American Sniper is not a movie for everyone and in my opinion it’s very overrated. I am not stopping you from watching this movie but keep in mind while watching is that this movie has a one-sided depiction of war and the real-life version of Chris Kyle is not a nice human being.… Expand

The film lacks all conviction and becomes just a long bore. If you've seen the absolutely brilliant trailer, you will totally miss the moral dilemma inherent in that 60 seconds. "American Sniper" valorizes, guns, father teaching a son to use the gun and kill, muslim's xenophobia and arrogance not Altruism as heroism.
In a time where children are killing children in schools; in name of God terrorists are killing innocents around the world and a huge part of the humanity is being named terrorist just because its religion and the religious xenophobia around the world is gaining more space in society and it is so wrong.. This movie timing is awful.
Art for the masses has not to be historically accurate but "American Sniper" is so lame & socially irresponsible, domestically & worldwide for all reasons above.
Sorry.... But in my POV. You can't say that the art from a genius filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl, who did institutional movies for the German nazista govern, was historical wrong and the meh movie from Clint Eastwood is not. Guarded the proportion, it is the same...
Art is art, but the industry has to have the responsibility of the time that a piece of art is out there. World is in the middle of a social mess (the last months and weeks have dozens of examples) and this movie just brings a bad image for Americans around the world. The American people doesn't deserves it. They are suffering with it.… Expand
