At the beginning of the film, Chris Kyle's father talks of three kinds of personalities children might grow to adopt in this world- (1) the ones who commit a societal injustice, like Wolves (2) the ones who never speak out against it fearing retaliation, like Sheep (3) the ones who sacrifice and boldly fight for those who can't fight for themselves, like Sheepdogs. Quick glance, and we will always find ourselves picking the third as the best of them all. And we think we are justified in doing so- but real life grows out to be more complicated than what we might think. This is exactly what this incredible true story delves into.

On the surface, the story plays out simply as a relentless patriotic soldier who is trying hard to fight a war in a foreign land to bring terrorists to justice. Despite the imminent risks involved, he is willing to sacrifice anything for the honor and glory of his country and to rescue his fellow soldiers. He doesn't care if this costs him in his personal life. This seems like a pretty noble pursuit. It earns him a military title- "LEGEND" along with loads of fame from his other colleagues. He even manages to rescue many dying soldiers on his way and reunites them with their loved ones. In short- he becomes a prized asset to the US army, a symbol of courage and hope amidst the devastating war.

But as the film proceeds, the audience is made to realize the dark impact the war's unavoidable bloodshed has on Chris' soul and how it gradually affects his personality, subconsciously. This is shown by cleverly cross-cutting between his wars in Iraq and his family life back home, where his wife repeatedly persuades him to live the simple life of a family man. But deep down he hesitates letting go of his 'savior-mentality' and figures out reasons to justify his own actions to himself. He starts suffering from hypertension, which adversely impacts his temper and sabotages his personal relationships. The war's trauma prevents him from feeling the joy of being around his own wife and kids as he should.

As Chris is pushed to his emotional breaking point towards the end of the film, we're put to a very deep personal conflict- "honor & glory" vs "family & love". And the film's ending scenes justifiably answer this strong dilemma by transforming Chris' character, and teaches us to value that which is actually important in life.

Last, but not the least, the cinematography adopted for filming the sniper-shooting scenes is marvelous. It draws us into Chris' mind as he emotionally wrestles with the tough choices on battlefield that question his humanity and his loyalty to America. The exceptional score that plays along, emphasizes on these pivotal story beats making us feel through his pursuit.

In it, our hero, Chris Kyle played by Bradley Cooper is presented as a young man growing up in Texas and we see that his girlfriend is cheating on him. Later, he meets his beautiful wife played by Sienna Miller in a bar. We see Chris Kyle react to the September 11th attacks and he enlists in the military to fight terrorists in the middle east. Kyle is deployed in Iraq and we see his escapades as the most deadly sniper in the U.S. military. Iraq had been listed as a State sponsor of terrorism by the U.S. since 1990, when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. Iraq had also been on the list from 1979 to 1982; it was removed so that the U.S. could provide material support to Iraq in its war with Iran. Hussein's regime had proven to be a problem for the UN and Iraq's neighbors due to its use of chemical weapons against Iranians and Kurds in the 1980s. The Iraq War began in March 2003 with an air campaign, which was immediately followed by a U.S.-led ground invasion. The Bush administration cited UNSC Resolution 1441, which warned of "serious consequences" for violations such as Iraq possessing weapons of mass destruction. The Bush administration also stated the Iraq war was part of the War on Terror, as Saddam Hussein was a radical Sunni muslim, leader of the Baathist party who may have had ties to Al-Queda. The movie is gripping, and you're pulling for Kyle who is tough and gallant. One criticism I have of the movie is it doesn't show many airstrikes, it only features one in the entire movie, when I know we bombed the hell out of Iraq. But it wants to focus on the sniping on the ground so its acceptable. The movie can get pretty exciting and intense. There are some cool action sequences with American marines going up against terrorists. The movie does a good job depicting PTSD caused by the trauma of war, as Kyle has to deal with these problems after his exploits in the middle east. There is a well-directed scene at a barbeque where Kyle freaks out with a dog and it disturbs his wife. The movie ends tragically, as we are told Chris Kyle is killed by a mentally disturbed veteran he was trying to help. Overall, a good tribute to an American although controversial, was virtuous and a hero. Expand

Not a bad movie but one of the more overrated movies of late and seriously not worthy of an Oscar nomination.
A solid yet simplistic biopic.

Over several service commissions in Iraq, he killed about 160 people, always in situations where he protected his own life or that of other American military personnel.

Personally, I really liked the film, I think it made a faithful account of the most important events in the life of the person portrayed and used the original material well, present in Kyle's autobiography. It was expertly directed by Clint Eastwood, who was perfectly capable of recreating the dangerous environment of the war, as well as the facts of Kyle's life. Being a film about a soldier more than about war, Eastwood focuses on his character, the portrait he wants to make of a man of integrity, brave, eager to help and make a difference. Eastwood gives us more than enough material to create a strong link between the audience and the main character, and that gives strength and sustains the film until the end. Another thing that the film shows are the psychological wounds that Kyle is having due to the war, to the point of emotionally distancing himself from his family. The film reasonably balances the portrait of a today's "war hero" with the intimate account of the secret inner pains and complexes of a man who feels that he has seen evil in its purest form.

Bradley Cooper was competent in the task of bringing Chris Kyle to life. As far as I was able to understand in the readings and research I do when I want to see a film I don't know, Cooper got to know Kyle and respected him a lot. It was certainly a project that he did with special commitment and affection, and this was reflected in the quality of his work. Technically, the film is flawless. Good special and sound effects, excellent sets, costumes and touches of authenticity in everything we can see. In addition to this, an excellent soundtrack.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Another war film for Clint Eastwood, American Sniper is an enjoyable film, and does any good war film justice. The cinematography was good, although it got pretty dark during that sandstorm climax. The acting was also good, but definitely not one of Cooper's best. The main problematic thing is the story and its coherence. The viewers are left baffled when it comes to the timeline of the film, and I think it has to do with the editing. Overall, this was a good film about the horrors of war and the hell soldiers face in an out of it. Expand

His biggest regret is a very simple one. Which he tries to amend at the ultimate cost. The American sniper didn't see himself as hero when people claimed him to be, but just a person doing what he had to do. Powerful gripping stuff that told a "soldiers story" like it was from boots on the ground. With all the strong bonds of brotherhood it invokes. Easy to crap on the movie for people who have never served or don't know anyone close who has served. Ignorance is bliss and I have read many a fool review here. Expand

Based on a true story (as told in his book of the same name) American Sniper focuses on Chris Kyle, the man who would go on to become the deadliest sniper in US military history, as he embarks on four tours of Iraq.

There has been criticism from some quarters that the larger issues of politics and the ethics of war have been largely ignored (and that will make many uncomfortable) but director Clint Eastwood has clearly set out to tell the story of one man's experience of war and, thanks to some gripping scenes and an excellent performance from Bradley Cooper, it does just that. Yes, it does become a little too 'Hollywood' on occasions, and it never quite reaches the same level of intensity or excellence achieved in Kathryn Bigelow's superb 'Hurt Locker' but its not far off on occasions and is well worth a watch.

What works in American Sniper is that it's more than your average war movie. The action is still there in brutal and exciting form. Standing beside that action and ultimately eclipsing is the true story of American sniper Chris Kyle.

We get to actually know him, or at least enough about him to make us care. As a result there is a heart and soul to the movie to keep things going. Seeing the effects the war has on Chris Kyle's life, particularly his mind are compelling and emotional.

American Sniper hits on familiar beats we've seen time and time again in war movies. PTSD, soldier talk, and the problems faced back home aren't new themes to the genre. However, that doesn't make them any less potent here. Thanks to strong direction and great central performance from Bradley Cooper, American Sniper has some real weight to it.

I know that seems like a glowing contradiction because liberals aren't supposed to like things like this but I like to think I consider myself impartial when it comes to movies. The movie is masterfully directed by Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper does an amazing job as Chris Kyle but with that being said, American Sniper was as close as you can get to being right-wing propaganda. The first thing it does as portray the Iraqis as the bad guys who are responsible for 9/11 despite them having nothing to do with 9/11. The 2nd thing this movie does wrong is paint Chris Kyle as a conflicted soldier, where if you read his book he actually was not very remorseful about the people he killed. I mean lets be real here, Chris Kyle was an absolutely terrible person. I'll go even as far to say he was a psychopath, he said it himself that he loved killing and that he would kill anyone with a kuron which is what basically everyone wears over there. Kyle was no hero, he was a monster, a repulsive and sick man who was a pathological liar that forged his military accomplishments and kill count to sell books. He was also, however like many soldiers in the middle east were taken advantage of by Bush/Cheney's quest for "WMD"s aka oil. Expand

The more talented movieWhat it's like to be a soldier in a modern war? What is the price of military glory? For those, who want answers to these questions, two ways are opened - direct experience or experience mediated by the art of cinema. The more talented movie makers, the more authentic experience they can mediate through their art to public. The "American Sniper" is exactly such kind of art.

Bradley Cooper is as convincing as an actor can be. You don't feel him acting, you just see person, which Cooper impersonates before you. You see his emotions, deeply hidden, but glimpsing from the depth. And there are choices, Kyle made. Choices, about which we, civilians, even don't want to think about. We are mostly living in imaginary world, hiding from horrors of reality. Well, soldiers can't hide from it - they must face it or they'll die. They must make choices, horrible, inhuman in terms of civilized behaviour. And many of them became broken, actually losing their humanity in the process.

The phrases, Chris said - about common people, behaving as usual like there is no war there; that he can't allow himself to be home, while others are still fighting; about military brotherhood - all of them are so recognizable. That's exactly same words, which you can hear from Ukrainian soldiers here. Even dehumanization of enemies (calling them "savages", etc.) is understandable - otherwise it would be hard to justify to yourself terrible things you are doing (there is ingenious episode in the George Orwell's "Looking back on the Spanish War" where he recalls that he refrained from shooting at "Fascist" partly because of a small detail, which humanized his foe:"I had come here to shoot at "Fascists"; but a man who is holding up his trousers isn't a "Fascist", he is visibly a fellow-creature, similar to yourself, and you don't feel like shooting at him").

This reality they meet, these choices they made - all of it bring soldiers farther and farther into the web of war. And nobody comes back from war unscathed. You can't just go home from war - it will follow you. The things, you've seen, the choices, you've made - they will haunt you wherever you are. If this movie will help others to realize what sacrifices soldiers are really making out there - behind the borders of usual life - what price they are paying, then cinema art is worth its invention.

Wonderful movie from Clint Eastwood - 8 out of 10.

Just like Fury isn't a movie about World War II, American Sniper isn't about the Iraq wars.
Nor is it about 9/11 and it's aftermath.
And certainly not about an American Sniper.
This movie is about America.

This is what a hero should look like according to yourself, Eastwood tells us.. Did you not decorate him? Did you not buy his biography in droves. Did you not read the book from cover to cover? Did you not gulp down the story of an all American blond haired, blue-eyed Caucasian guy with a pretty girl-next-door wife, who goes out to protect the greatest country on earth?
A man of duty?
A man of inner nobility?
An all American hero?

This is why it doesn't matter whether the movie is set in Iraq, the Outer Hebrides or Middle Earth.
This is why it doesn't matter who the enemy is.
And this is why it doesn't matter whether the movie contains a truth or not.
The only thing that matters is the larger than life depiction of an unblemished hero.

And Eastwood doesn't hold back and goes one step further.
The American sniper invades, for it matters not.
The American sniper shoots enemy soldiers, because they are not.
The American sniper takes out women and kids, because they are not.
.
Any unease that an American soldier might have shot a someone in violation of the Geneva-convention is taken away by clearly depicting the enemy for what they are: they are orcs

Is that what really happened, America? Was every civilian death such a clear case of the enemy using any means whatsoever and thus justifying a reaction in kind? Did you really wait for the civilians to show their hostile intent before gunning them down?Did the fog of war not exist? Or did you flatten their houses and mow them down with machine guns before they could become a threat? All to protect the greatest country on earth?

Perhaps it was Eastwood's intent, or perhaps not, but the movie is a mirror to what America is not. The more shinier the American sniper becomes the starker the contrast with reality this picture is.

The American sniper is all what an American soldier should be like..
So unlike reality..

American or Non-American

Finally last night I got a chance to watching the last film of the Mr Clint Eastwood. (One of the my popular director)
For me that Gran Torino (one of the Eastwood’s Movies) always being in my top ten choice when I make a list for best movies that I have seen so far watching American sniper was a great shock.
In Gran Torino distance between nations or better to say human more than any time seems shorter and shorter as far as Eastwood as an impatient American man who has experience war in Korea savior or better say sacrifice him for non-American boy from the same geography (east Asia)but in American Sniper Bradley Cooper in the role of Chris Kyle in response of advisor question that asks whether Sometimes think about 160 men that were killed in Iraq, Says more than that, it pains him to why more people are not killed to protect the lives of American soldiers.
Eastwood in the final scene of gran torino sending him as the old man of story to the conscious death without having weapons for that non-American boy of story could live more comfortable.
But in one of the American sniper scenes Chris Kyle in response to the cries of his wife who desperately wants him to stay with his American family rejected her request and perhaps killing Mustafa in his mind.
It’s time to put aside their weapons and ending unnecessary crisis in the world.

Brilliantly directed at the hands of Clint Eastwood along with a great performance by Bradley Cooper, the story of Chris Kyle is done in all the right sense. The performances are excellent, both Cooper and Miller are dynamic and believable in their roles. The cinematography was generally solid for this kind of film, and the score was typical of an American war story. The pacing was very well considered and the final sequence was masterfully executed. The moral subtext is where criticism is warranted as this is a film which posits the hero as a representative of the entire conflict in Iraq and, as such, any commentary on the nature of war or that particular conflict is decidedly one-dimensional. This may be expected from an Eastwood film, however, it's clear that not only is the moral quandry not central to the plot, it is also treated with disdain in the dialogue, which may play well for an American audience, but smacks of the 'MURICA mentality rather than good storytelling. A solid bo-yah film with little depth. 6.86/10 Expand

I don't know but as a movie, it does its job at being entertaining. It isn't necessarily a must-watch but for anyone who thinks this movie looks interesting, you'll probably enjoy it. It's not only a war movie but a movie about family and about what a war does to soldiers (meaning mentally as well as physically). It shows how dark war really and it doesn't necessarily glorify the American army, although I'm sure plenty of people feel that it does. This is my opinion, though, so see it for yourself if you haven't already. Some of the events in the movie are knowingly changed (invented) to build up the action, and suspense. This is also not the only war movie ever done, so anyone who finds this movie insulting, or propaganda, is morally confused or simply seeking in opportunities to promote their anti war or anti american agenda. You can be against the war but there is something wrong with you as an American if you would rather have our boys be killed than to be protected by guys like Kyle performing overwatch. The movie wasn't there to provide "ethical" answers, it showed what our guys are putting up with. Before you rip into the movie go over to Iraq and then let's see your point of view.

The movie was excellent, but it should have been longer . So 9 instead of 10.

I loved the balance between telling a very patriotic, moving story of a hero who wasn't perfect, whose family life was far from perfect, in a war that was very far from perfect.

Chris left no man behind. In doing so, he left his wife and children behind and they also paid a terrible price for our freedom. But if I had been Chris, I don't know that I could or would have done anything different. What choice was there? Let soldiers die that you know you can save, or leave your wife and children in difficult suffering? He went as far as he could and then came home to save his family and himself.

Thankfully, they didn't try to justify or criticize the war. They just told us about a premier hero among many others in the background including Taya. As Chris’ wife and mother of their children, Taya was not one wit less the hero herself. Her mortal life may not have been on the line, but her heart and soul were. Taya not only did 4 tours with Chris, she had to deal with the hardships of this wonderful man when he returned while desperately yearning for the emotional support she needed.

Bradly Cooper and Sienna Miller were outstanding in bringing their story home to us.

They didn’t fully develop the whole story, but what they did, they did so very well.

A film that's been nominated for best picture at the Oscars and also has a lot of controversy behind it, that's a lot to take in for a movie studio.

American Sniper tell the story of Chris Kyle played by Bradley Cooper. Chris was the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history. But there was much more to this true American hero than his skill with a rifle. U.S. Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle is sent to Iraq with only one mission: to protect his brothers-in-arms. His pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and, as stories of his courageous exploits spread, he earns the nickname "Legend." However, his reputation is also growing behind enemy lines, putting a price on his head and making him a prime target of insurgents. Despite the danger, as well as the toll on his family at home, Chris serves through four harrowing tours of duty in Iraq, becoming emblematic of the SEAL creed to "leave no man behind." But upon returning home, Chris finds that it is the war he can't leave behind.

I remember a time where Clint Eastwood use to make pretty damn good movies. Unforgiven, Changeling, Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino and Mystic River. All these movie right there are one of his best, but for the last couple of years he's been making some bad or really boring movies that forgot about. Until American Sniper came out and at last his back on track of what made him good in the first place, because American Sniper is a great movie.

Bradley Cooper in this movie dose a Oscar worthy performance and...wait a minute, his nominated for one. Now that's what I like to see. Cooper really played Chris Kyle so well that I think this is my favorite performance from him, because he got all the stress, all the hard work to protect his family & country and war itself effecting you from the people you killed, and Bradley Cooper got the character right and showed that he was only human.

The directing from Client Eastwood was nothing but great. With his other films (And I'm talking about the bad ones) his movie always have this slow paste feel to them making it uninteresting, but with this it's always going and it never slows down. I'm not talking about the action that makes the movie more quick past, no I'm talking about the movie characters and it's sense of atmosphere of intense and quick reaction and that got my interested from start till finish, and that's brilliant film making by Client Eastwood.

Now for the controversy of this movie: 2014 was the year for controversy and yet it's pretty pointless to start a controversy for this movie over a american hero who may have do some wrong things, but who hasn't in a war zone. The people who started the controversy is only advertising the movie more, I mean just look at the The Interview and how much people sawed that by all the controversy and almost the start of World War 3. The controversy for this movie is by Chris Kyle actions towards Muslims and how the movie adversest him has a perfect war hero, and that's just ridiculous to get all **** about. Chris Kyle probably did some bad things in the battlefield but he also did some good things that saved many solders lives. To those who's criticizing Chris is only adverting the movie more and everybody is going to watch the movie and you going to get a lot of hate for saying that.

Now for problems: The films editing seem to past some important scenes in the movie and I'm not going to say what scenes I mean if I do then I must spoil some scenes. And that's it for problems.

American Sniper is a excellent war movie that shows how brutal war is and how it can effect on people.

Don't let the score fool you; I wouldn't recommend this movie to anybody.

Before I tell my personal experience with the movie, let's get the normal critical review material out of the way. Bradley Cooper did an amazing job playing his character, as with the other actors of this movie. Top-notch. The cinematography was very well executed as well, especially with the shots through the scopes. I don't know why, but I don't see that too much. The soundtrack was subtle, but noticeable in some parts, which is what I'd expect. Some gripes though: This doesn't show the man that Chris Kyle was. A scene at the end did show respect for him, but honestly the rest of the movie didn't really do that. However, that's not the main point of the movie, as I'll explain in a bit, so that's not the main gripe I have. Character development was severely lacking in basically all other characters except for Cooper's. Still, these flaws don't affect the score too much.

Now for my personal experience with this movie. This movie is a war movie, through and through. When I walk into a movie theater, however, I expect to suspend my disbelief and walk out unaffected. Sure, it may be a crying movie, but still it's not real. This movie was too real for me. I walked out of that theater so emotionally affected that I said to myself that I'd never see it again. Not because it's bad, but because it's too real. I won't use the word realistic (even though it is) because that doesn't seem to be the right word. Movies are unrealistic; it's just something that's been shown. This movie was too emotionally affecting, and I don't want anyone seeing it because of that one fact. A lot of people are saying this is a war propaganda film for America. I'd say that it was doing the literal polar opposite. It was showing the true nature of war; a subject many film-makers are afraid to tread on. All in all, this is a great movie that, again, nobody should watch.

I had seen some bad reviews, as well as good reviews - and there seemed to be a partisan divide between those that liked it, and those that hated it. Thus, I was an expecting somewhat of a propaganda piece comparing the Iraq war to apple pie.

Nothing could have been further from the truth. This is a gritty, disturbing, realistic, heart breaking, non-political piece about one man's motivation, action & reaction to war and all it involves.

Bradley Cooper is brilliant, and his eyes reveal a thousand shades of emotion. This film does not glorify snipers, nor does it glorify the Iraq War - if anything, it is a realistic portrayal of why & how our soldiers fought & returned to this quagmire with little understanding or support from anyone back home.

It doesn't matter how you feel about the Iraq war, this film will touch your heart & soul and help you understand those that fought in America's name, right or wrong.

I put this film in the category of "Deer Hunter" & "Platoon" as far as capturing the essence of the conflict, and the heart of those involved.

First of all is interesting theAmerican Sniper marks the return of Clint Eastwood to war themes, like most of his movies what he is trying to accomplish here is to reveal the point of view from a selected character towards life and death. First of all is interesting the scenario in which the story takes place, the objective is to show how it changes people, in this case the ascension of Chris Kyle from nobody to US legend, and even more into some kind of god that watches over his child from above. Although what happens in Irak doesn't stay in Irak; and the failure in the protagonist's adaptation to the normal world is another thing that the director adds to this reflection; this is why Kyle will do what ever it takes to protect his family. Now I'd like to quote Walt Kowalsky's phrase from Gran Torino: "the thing the haunts a man the most, is what he isn't order to do"; since the viewer sees the trailer of this movie, he understands what we are speaking of. Every soldier of any other war in history excuses himself in his superiors, no one takes the responsibility, because they can't carry on their shoulders the guilt; here lies the inhuman strength of the protagonist and because of that transformation, he no longer belongs in our world. Clint Eastwood once more demonstrates what he is capable of and with a Bradley Cooper that is building himself a great career in acting. Expand

Cooper is excellent as the title character, and Miller confounds expectations by matching his performance as his long suffering wife. There is a moral and ethical argument to be had here about the evils of war and whether or not we should be glorifying someone who is, to all intents and purposes, a stone cold killer, but that isn't what Eastwood is interested in. The enemy are deliberately kept at a distance and never become anything more than cyphers, but what Eastwood has crafted is a brilliant war film that, like the soldiers it depicts, gets on with the job without too much concern for why they are doing it Expand

American Sniper makes you understand Chris Kyle and how he saw the world. It speaks for him, perhaps better than the man spoke for himself. Whether you hate or love both the man and the film for that depends on your own moral character.

Certainly an interesting movie. Coming in, I wasn't sure what to expect - a piece of propaganda? A touching and scary story about PTSD? Action on the battlefield?

Well, it turns out it's a mash of everything. It's about Chris Kyle, a top-notch American Sniper. It goes between a soap-opera-ish movie with his wife and an action/drama during the war scenes, but it mixes very well. Cooper is unrecognizable with how buff he is, and he nails his role.

It's pretty intense, a bit smooshy is some parts, but overall pretty touching. I would recommend seeing this movie.

Directed by Clint Eastwood with a screenplay by Jason Hall, the film stars Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller. This is the story of a true patriot whose love of country knows no bounds and is inspiring to the most callous of disbelievers. Much like the movie "Selma", the subject of the film is greater than the film itself. This is an action packed war picture with lots of action and, true to Mr. Eastwood’s love of the military and the battles they face, shows us the true nature of the conflict and trials and tribulations of the brave men who fight in them and the mental and physical healing that is so critical to their survival. I viewed the film under the best of circumstances in an IMAX theater and still came away feeling that I had seen "another war film" rather than the great piece of film making that is receiving so much revenue, drawing so many crowds and receiving so many craft nominations. The film is much too long and at times the audience feels it is taking these extra tours of duty along with the
characters in the film. I give the film an 8 because it did hold my interest even though it failed the "I never looked at my watch" test..

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After hearing numerous positive remarks over the new movie starring Bradley Cooper, I decided to go see American Sniper for myself. At first I was skeptical about Cooper playing such a serious role after seeing him in movies such as The Hangover and He’s Just Not That Into You. Just like the majority of women in America today, I am very fond of him and his acting and assumed he would do a great job performing any character in any type of movie.
My assumption was right. American Sniper was probably one of the top five movies I’ve ever seen and hands down the best movie I’ve ever seen in theaters. Luckily I was able to see it in IMAX at the Warren Theater opening night, which took my experience to the next level. The theater was completely filled and I had to wait an hour in line before I could get a seat. It was no surprise to me that the movie made approximately ninety million dollars in just the first weekend.
The movie was based on a true story about an American hero from Texas. Chris Kyle served as a Navy SEAL and had the most confirmed enemy sniper kills in the Middle East. The movie depicts Kyle’s life during the war as well as his personal life at home with his wife and children. It covers not only the aspects of war and his missions, but the detrimental effects war can have on a person’s life after they come home.
It also shows how much fighting in the war and serving his country meant to Kyle. He kept insisting to go back to Iraq for months and months at a time despite his wife’s strong efforts to keep him home safe. Being a soldier was clearly what he lived for.
I think this movie was done in such a way that it coveys a powerful message to the audience. It was really eye-opening to see how much veterans such as Chris Kyle go through during post-war time. Those who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder have extreme challenges to face during their everyday life, and that goes on to greatly affect their families as well.
In the end, Kyle ends up getting murdered by a fellow veteran he tried to help, who was in fact suffering from a severe mental illness after he returned from war. The impact this message delivers to those who do not know much about PTSD, or who underestimate its severity, can only benefit people around the nation.
I think this movie was entertaining, compelling, and exciting to watch. The director did an amazing job of putting the story together in a way that kept me at the edge of my seat the entire time. To sum it all up, I would highly recommend this movie to anyone because it shows what war heroes must go through to do their job and makes you truly appreciate what they do for our country.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This NOT a political movie but just trying to give people a glimpse at what Chrus Kyle and his family had to go through. Liberals will say we shouldn't have gone to Iraq Blah blah etc. put that aside and think about what decisions Chris Kyle had to make about killing women and children. what mother would give a child a grenade to throw at Americans. What kinda of person would drill holes in a defenseless child's hand and shoot a defenseless father, What child would pick a a RPG to shoot at Americans? There are real evil people in this world and Chris Kyle had to make a decision to save American lives or not. Many say a real sniper wouldn't have done this or that out in the field. I say it's still a movie and I believe Mr. Eastwood was trying to convey the emotions and the situations of how Chris Kyle felt probably not to a T as Hollywood still take liberties in interpreting the book. We had snipers in the revolutionary war to take out the British no one complains.. We had snipers in WW to kill Nazis ( liberal would call them disgruntled Germans) no one complains. Chris Kyle kept going back more to save American lives that was more his mind set than anything political.
I felt this movie made me feel Chris Kyle anguish and torment and how Taya felt when he came home zombie like.

This is a bio-pic, a story of Chris Kyle, the most lethal American sniper in US military history. Chris Kyle did four tours in Iraq.
He would accompany his unit, eliminating the threat to Marines when they go door to door searching for insurgents.
Clint Eastwood, the director of this movie, does not shy away from psychological problems that many veterans, including Chris, experience after coming back home and entering a normal life. Eastwood pays tribute to Chris's achievements and honestly shows extreme difficulties soldiers face in a battle and upon coming back home.
Battle scenes are very intense, dramatic and believable. The movie in some way reminded me of "Hurt Locker", but this film is about a real person, and not fictional.
Nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actor.

Also, the film is well shot immersing you in the really well done battle scenes, which is enriched by the excellent use of surround sound and a solid score. When the film ended, for reasons that anyone who is familiar with the actual people and events this film is based on, there was this uncomfortable silence in the theater the likes of which I’ve never felt before. This is a film that will entertain, engage, and unnerve. You shouldn’t just see this film because you are trying to do Oscar homework because it is a well-made film that has sold out three weekends in a role in my local theater for a reason. If you are under 21, and a young adult not a little kid, I’d strongly recommend you try to see this. Get your older friends or your parents to take you (this isn’t one of those films that shouldn’t watch with your parents) because it is worth it. One of the best of the year/Oscar season and I congratulate the film on its Oscar nominations. Expand

The action scenes were really well made, they looked very realistic; and it was pretty cool watching how the story is alternating between war scenes and family scenes, looking very believable and fluid. Bradley Cooper did mainly an excellent job, and all the crew also. Sadly, the main character is the only one you are going to care about during all the film, for you never really feel attached to the others, being this a big script problem, more than an acting problem. Having had a close family member pull two tours in Iraq, i can say this is one of the first movies that really helps a civilian understand a little of the torment and pain and sacrifice our soldiers experience. This is good enough that Cooper and Eastwood deserve Oscars. They don't delve too deeply into the struggling wife, but Sienna Miller does a good job in her role. Though we all know what happened to Kyle, I'm also glad the ending of the movie was handled with grace and didn't put us through too much agony. Expand

Thank God there are people like this or our country would be another Sudan, Nigeria or Syria. It also brought awareness of the impact on these men and women and their families and the aftermath of PTSD and attempting to adjust. And yes, adults giving children explosive to kill others are savages and men drilling holes into the heads of children because of the "crime" of their parents, cutting off body parts of women and skinning other men alive are savages. And I would not have any hesitation or remorse for killing them too. Moral is getting rid of evil and most Iraqis were killed by Iraqis. Expand

The story is as usual a heroic tale of a Navy Seal with many tense action scenes, and quite of bit of drama as well so if u are expecting a Call of Duty shootout movie then u will be a little disappointed. Bradley Cooper is great and he deserves an Oscar for his performance. The downsides to the movie are that it is a bit long and drags on some dramatic scenes. You can feel that the movie is trying hard to fill in as many aspects of the hero's life as possible but it sometimes tries too hard and feels tedious. Still it is a good movie and well worth the $; just don't expect it to be a war movie with 100% action throughout. It is more of a biographical film of a heroic soldier and his life. Expand
