It's not Horror movie is a Drama with a bit of horror and science fiction.
But if it make you very nervous to the point of not eating popcorn at the cinema because you do not want to make noise.
On the other hand the aliens or creatures are very well put together with all the production.
I recommend it a lot, I give it 10 one of the best Drama and Horror movies for me after the Get Out movie.

One of the dumbest movies ever, didn't scare or make me suspend my disbelief for a second. THAT's unforgivable. Can't understand how critics and/or regular movie goers gave this a pass. Amateur hour for John K. as director. Film school fare. I didn't give it zero as it at least has a concept & a few mildly entertaining moments. But this is manipulative drivel. How can I make you jump nonsense. No spoilers, but there is no way modern military weapons wouldn't be able to handle this. These monsters are so easy to bait & they're just flesh & blood. In the end, ordinary stuff you have in your house is good enough to fix the problem. And as sound is their weakness, surely some science dude would have figured out a way to deal with this through sound waves...and that's just the start of my rant! Monsters with hearing this keen could hear anything, a heartbeat, breathing etc. And yet, somehow human survivors live on a farm with fields of corn? How were those planted soundlessly? Does the director have any concept of what it takes to plant a big field of corn? And were does the electricity come from for all the other gizmos these folks have? Modern technology in abundance (oxygen tanks, surveillance etc.) but the guy has to make a fishing trap with twigs? They have running water but never go into the bathroom to run a shower so they can talk?
I can put all those plot holes aside & still rant! The worst is that there is a big hazard on the stairs that no one notices ...? But even after someone does notice, no one does anything about it! These people are unsympathetic morons! Get a pair of pliers, or cover it with a coffee cup, anything to fix it! Then when the daughter goes off into a world filled with monsters, the mother doesn't even notice until many hours later ... then, indifferently wonders, where is that kid? She barely reacts. Geesh! Emily Blunt's acting is atrocious but the melodramatic situations demand her blood, sweat & tears. She just chews up the scenery -- the kids aren't any better. Grrr, I should give this zero, but I didn't walk out...

I went into the movie with modest expectation due to the rotten tomato score, and left pretty confused. The beginning of the movie hooked me since I liked seeing the post-apocalyptic atmosphere, but from there it slowly became less interesting. Most people criticize the plot and unrealistic actions, but I didn't really mind. I was only bothered by the lack of story and development, or rather how it wasn't scary to me at all. With a slow story and lots of predictability, it felt like there wasn't much to pay attention to on screen other than the alien. There wasn't any build up or goal throughout the movie, and if there was, it wasn't resolved or made clear. The acting and sound was obviously great, but with editing aside, this movie is really only successful in it's portrayal of a silent world. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is no doubt that Krasinsky can direct but this film was laughable at its very premise and that's a fatal flaw that it never recovered from for me and my girlfriend, who chortled through the whole movie. While the acting and direction were quite good and the writing was clever, in its mechanics and use of devices, the basic conceit of the film is too much of an obstacle and it is betrayed by the ending in a massive way. If these creatures are so indestructible, how come a lady who just gave birth and has a nail wound in her foot can destroy one with a single shotgun shell? How can a ten year old figure out that the Achilles heel of the species is that their hearing is so sensitive they can be defeated with feedback? Our armed forces have been using sonic weaponry for years and no one but this girl could have figured out that the greatest threat to mankind could be defeated with an annoying high pitched noise? A National Guard troop could not clear an area of these things inside of a week with just the guns and ammo they have in a supply wherehouse? It was completely preposterous. While Rod Serling could have made a horribly flawed premise like this work for a half an hour without much of a problem, it would not have been a very good episode by "Twilight Zone" standards. So, while Krasinsky did an admirable job directing, the acting was stellar and the writers were mechanically clever, the basic premise of the film simply doesn't survive the suspension of disbelief test. It wasn't a good movie but it wasn't bad movie either and as it stands I consider it to be an average film. For a first time film director John Krasinski does a pretty damn good job and while there is nothing particularly unique about his style he certainly shows his capacity to improve and show potential to improve greatly in the future. Furthermore the performance of Krasinski and Blunt are superb in the film as they give captivating emotional performances throughout the film. Now at this point you must wonder why I've only given the film a 5 when all I've done is praise it, and while the performances of the adult cast and direction are at very good standards it is the performances of the younger cast members and bad plot decisions that drag this film down heavily. The performances of the child actors in this film are painfully boring to watch and you can tell quite clearly that they're inexperienced and can only display a very limited array of acting skills. In the film everything they do looks either incredibly fake or wooden and you're begging for the next scene with adults to get back to the good parts of this film. The plot of this film relies very heavily on the aspect of suspending belief. In the film there is a limited number of creatures (atleast 4 in the films rural area) and as an audience we are supposed to believe that about roughly ten thousand of these monsters wiped out not only most of the United States which exercises the second amendment but successfully killed near 7 billion people. In the films defense the explanation given is that they're armor plated and incredibly fast, but if the films writers expect me to believe that not one weapon in the worlds global arsenal could kill a single one of these creatures, i'm not falling for it. Additionally, like all horror movies, the movie relies on the characters doing stupid sh*t to escalate the plot. This is where the film resorts to The Three Stooges levels of shenanigans, with a lack of Benny Hill track in the films final act to pump out jump scare after another. Characters basically make matters worse for themselves in the films finale as they each spend time with the creature thinking about how they'll kill themselves. This is made even more hilarious by the fact that these are people that have survived well over a year into the attack and yet manage to royally f*ck up all too effortlessly.

A Quiet Place is a well filmed original horror movie with great performances from the adult cast. However while it boast originality it's poorly constructed overall plot and bad acting from its younger leads holds this film back from being the intelligent thriller it needed to be.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is a great example of modern Hollywood. The base idea for this story is nothing new or special. But they use a gimmick to create an entire movie. They milk this gimmick for an entire hour before they start to slack off. Had they done the entire movie without speaking it may have been interesting just for that gimmick alone. As it is they decide that they have to tell you stuff instead of showing it to you. In a movie where they can't talk...

But lets get to the meat of this argument. The movie was written and directed without any critical thinking. To the point where their story concepts were strung together half haphazardly, and no thought was given to their repercussion and how it would obviously affect the narrative. The monster is unintelligent and constantly makes clicking sounds. This strongly implies that it uses echo location. I don't care if the writers, directors, or producers all say that they don't have echo location. They demonstrated it as being a characteristic of the monster. But their story completely ignores it and even implies that the creatures don't have any echo location. They repeatedly show a newspaper clipping that shows a soldier at point blank range with a monster. The clipping has a headline saying that they are invulnerable. But a shotgun blast at close range can kill them in one hit. This is stupid. The monster is now just stupid. But my family says that the ultra sonic sounds weakened them first! We already use ultra sonic weapons now!

All of the characters made stupid choices in silly and convoluted situations. No one responsible ever stopped to think about how to create a situation that fostered a suspension of disbelief. It was obvious that they didn't bother to think about how a situation could plausibly occur that would allow them to include story elements that they used. The entire movie suffered for it. This was a movie all about cheap jump scares with little else to tie them together. It wasn't scary, the monster wasn't frightening, and the situation was a joke. There were some neat ideas and the gimmick could have been interesting. Instead they wasted some good actors with mediocre writing.

(It comes as no surprise that these very same people are responsible for such things as Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, and the like.) Virtually every scene is marred by some form of idiocy. Here are a few I'd like to point out:

The characters in this film are not people who would survive the "monster apocalypse" for more than a week. They’re far too careless in watching over their kids and far too inconsistent about the details of survival they choose to notice, much less deal with.

There's a nail in the middle of a step on the basement stairs. How did it get there? How long has it been there? How does a laundry bag turn this into a hazard? Try pulling a nail halfway out of a 2x4 with a strip of handkerchief, or burlap, and see how that goes.

I personally stepped on a nail as a young kid. It hardly hurt at all. But by the reaction of the wife you'd think she had a leg amputated. OK, pregnant women ARE more sensitive to pain but give me a break.

If they go so far as to put marks on the floor of the house to show where it's safe to walk, (presumably where the floorboards don't creak), why do they leave pictures and paintings on the walls that could be knocked down, making noise, and attracting monsters?

Dad and son walking after dark with no lights. The youngest son had batteries for a toy rocket so why no batteries for flashlights? And later in the film everybody suddenly has working flashlights. Very convenient.

Why no sound-proof room? Dad is an engineer, right?

Wife is about to give birth. They had at least 9 months to prepare (and we know that because the opening scenes tell us it's over a year since the monsters arrived) but still no sound-proof room. Wife is supposed to be an MD so you would think that planning ahead would come naturally.

Crying baby. Sound insulation: an old mattress over the top of the stairs. OK, well, in the room under the mattress they put the baby in a wooden box to contain baby's crying. Use oxygen line so baby doesn't suffocate. Then, for some reason, when a monster shows up, the baby's box lid is off. (Apparently no one responsible for this film ever heard of aboriginal peoples pinching the noses' of babies to stop them crying.) I'm still curious as to where they're going to find enough oxygen to keep baby in a box for a year or two till it learns to keep quiet.

Electricity for lights and radios is coming from where? It's not from the local power plant because when the plant operators disappear in any kind of apocalypse the plant will automatically shut down within an hour or two because no operator inputs. Trust me, that's how power plants work.

A basement room starts filling with water. No idea where the water is coming from.

Family appears to have a big field full of growing corn. Don't see any other natural source of food anywhere. Reminds me of the old-time trappers along the Hudson. Had nothing to eat all winter but rabbits. Died of malnutrition.

Why are there kids in the film? Because kids can always be replied upon to do exactly the wrong thing at the wrong time. Yes, it's a kid who apparently saves the day in the end, but by that point I was long past caring.

People will say, hey, it's just some horror flick. Turn off your brain and enjoy. My problem is turning off my brain doesn't help when the idiocies are this rampant.

[Initially, I was going to give this film a 5 or 6, but as I wrote the review I got so irritated that a 3 was the best I could do. And I'm being generous.]

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A Quiet Place is possibly one of the best Horror Films of the decade and deserves the rating it is getting from the critics. John Krasinski has done a phenomenal job creating a film with such little dialogue yet using the effects of acting and extravagant camera techniques to create what Hitchcock called ‘Pure Cinema’. It is very rare that I see a trailer for an upcoming Horror movie and get excited, but after seeing the trailer for A Quiet Place, I was immediately intrigued. The concept seemed almost impossible to betray on screen for it contains so many flaws and yet again Krasinski managed to fill in the gaps that we as the audience wouldn’t of imagined to of been explained.
Firstly, those who ask why the family didn’t live beside the waterfall are honestly so inconsiderate. Why... why would you want to live in a waterfall for the rest of your life? That is no way to live. This isn’t the only inconsiderate point a few contain; The Baby, Food, basic noises e.g. coughs... If people were to use there common sense and take in the information given in the film they would know that it is completely possible to survive on that farm.
They have a stable diet of fish and vegetable due to the parents both having experience of living on a farm. The baby is not heard crying because the monsters are distracted via the fireworks, Others on earth may have found a solution to the problem but where killed before exposing it, There ARE other people alive (the other fires being lit and the Old Man screaming)
Besides the film covering up any plot holes, the acting is unbelievable. You can tell that the chemistry within the cast was perfect and the choice for each role was sublime. Noah Jupe was brilliant especially in the scene when the Old Man screams and his father is trying to keep him quiet. Jupe did a fantastic job with his facial expression and only added to what Pure Cinema is. As for Millicent Simmonds I don’t know where to begin. During the film you were able to sympathise with Simmonds character the most for when it went to her POV you felt as if you were in her position. Knowing that she can’t hear what is around her but being able to see the monster right behind her is terrifying. This with her imposing appearance to seem completely unaware of her surroundings was wonderful to see and should certainly be recognised. As for both John and Emma they were outstanding. Firstly for Emma in the birth scene and John in the scene towards the end of the film when he sacrifices his life to save his children. This is certainly one of my favourite movies and I am more than happy to give it a 10

I seriously can't understand the people giving this negative score and how would you even make a registration in this site (and why), when you can't appreciate a good movie. There is a new Pacific Rim movie, maybe, just maybe, redirect your ungrateful opinions there. This is why we are getting flooded with low quality, pointless, brain cells killing, so called - movies. I need to stop as this has turned into something else, rather a film review. 8.5/10; feed your brains and senses once in a while, jeez. Expand

Unfortunately, I found it quite disappointing. The pace is incredibly slow, particularly at the beginning, and the story becomes wearisome quickly. It has a basic premise, alien invasion, people on the run and it doesn't get any more complicated than that. Although there were some interesting scenes where the sense of imminent danger was well delivered, I never felt particularly scared which is the hallmark of any good horror. Both Emily Blunt and John Krasinski were certainly dedicated in their roles as husband and wife trying to protect their remaining children but I still never felt any connection to them or their predicament. There was no character development to speak of, and the world they inhabited was not shown or developed in any way. I'm assuming that was intentional but neither did I feel they piqued my interest in the fate of the rest of the world outside their small farm. Another issue I had was with the CG alien creatures. They looked very similar to the ones from Cloverfield lane, and it seemed there was little desire in making something new and original here. Seeing these monsters wholly unveiled left nothing to the imagination and, substantially reduced the overall tension that could have been produced had we not known what they entirely looked like or were capable of from the beginning. The story, on the whole, seemed more like a focused study on how a family would cope if such a disaster occurred and how it would alter their day to day lives as they attempted to survive rather than a developed piece of horror fiction.

Overall it's a decent albeit somewhat bland movie that's worth a look however if you're in the market for a real horror story that'll chill you to the bone for a couple of hours then this, unfortunately, isn't it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is ridiculous. There is no logic. It makes no sense. Peoples reactions are totally unrealistic. It feels like it has been made by some ultra-conservative pro-life fanboys. The story: Weird alien creatures roam the planet and eat people. But they are blind and can only orient by sound, which they can detect from far away. However they can not hear you breath or can not hear your heartbeat even if they are like right next to you. Also they have extremely sensitive hearing, but no-one in the world has figured out that one can distract them by noises. Only a deaf girl eventually figures it out, by accident and only at the end of the movie. The previous like two or so times the aliens got scared of her (of her loud hearing aid) she did not make the connection! How stupid does one need to be. It makes no sense. Then the whole thing with trying to save the stupid baby and risking everyone else's life in the process. Then the dad sacrificing his own life for no good reason is another stupid part (why not just run away at least, let the alien follow you). But he just stands there and screams until it eats him.

So near the waterfall they can't hear you, so why not put f-ing loudspeakers outside your house playing some birdsongs or whatever or water sound? Why not go to a house with stronger doors? Why everyone is dead, if you can simply shoot the aliens with a shotgun? It is not like in "alien" where the aliens are actually hard to kill. No. They are easy to kill. Just people give up before they try.......

Alternative title – The Cliché Place.

Where were the scares, where were the characters, where was a modicum of originality? Setting – everywhere rural America. Protagonists – Dad, Mum, Daughter, Son. Roles– Dad makes stuff and protects everyone, Mum cooks dinner, Daughter’s stroppy and up herself, Son doesn’t think he can fill Dad’s shoes.

Then there were the monsters, a cheep mash up of Venom and the thing from Cloverfield.

As for the pace of the film, it went from dull to very mildly suspenseful to silly silly silly. Did it have any redeeming qualities? Well, spotting the massive plot holes was kind of a distraction. Downing a drink every time there was a bit of clumsy foreshadowing was a laugh. Otherwise, very poor.

It did leave me with one big question, how did people who were so dumb manage to survive for so long? If post apocalypse this will be the best we have, I weep for the human race.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. this movie has some of the biggest plot holes and is one of the most predictable i have ever seen, the monsters hunt by sound so lets not live next to the loud waterfall where they cant hear us instead lets live on a farm where every noise we make is noticeable, the kids are taught to be quiet yet when the toy turns on and is loud as heck the kid doesn't even react and just stands there playing with it. how does no one think of fighting monsters sensitive to sound with sound, it was seriously the first thing i thought when i was watching and his board said whats their weakness i instantly thought sound their weakness is sound. the only redeeming parts of this movie are the performances and cgi everything else is eye rolling bad. On one hand, I can see the hype and find a lot of things to like about the movie. On the other hand, there's a ton of things I don't like about the movie that I am honestly surprised how much praise and credit it has received.

So what are the things I like? Well it's got some good atmosphere, I'll give the movie that. I wasn't sure on the premise, I felt that it was too ridiculous for me to really buy, but I think there's a nice eerie ambiance with the film. It's claustrophobic with the singular setting, the sound design is pretty solid, and even the cinematography from Charlotte Bruus Christensen and the blocking of certain shots are pretty great. I also think that John Krasinski as a director does a pretty good job, albeit not an amazing job, when it comes with working behind the camera. There was a lot of effort being made with the film and I can appreciate that. The acting is mostly good. Nothing amazing, but most of the actors does a good job with conveying their thoughts and feelings without dialogue. John Krasinski is pretty good, Emily Blunt is great as usual, Millicent Simmonds is the best child actor here (although I kept on confusing her from the girl in Heredity), and Noah Jupe is good too, although when he does talk in the film he's pretty bad.

Now what don't I like? Well the rules are pretty inconsistent and does lead to some plot holes and inconsistencies. Like the general idea is that small noises are alright, but big noises are bad. Which is fine. However it's hard to really tell what constitutes as a loud noise and a small noise. Like a toy space shuttle and a cooking alarm clock is a loud noise but apparently snapping your fingers and a fire being lit doesn't? Fire's not quiet you can still hear it! Some might say that's nitpicking, but honestly I just don't think there was a ton of care to working out the rules to making them super tight and the movie would have benefited a lot. Also what would have benefited, and this one is pretty major, is not having a score. The score used in the film is pretty bland on it's own, but it also ruins a lot of the film because it's feels so manipulative at times. I think the movie works without a score because John Krasinski does a decent job conveying the feeling of certain scenes when the movie is mute, but with the score it just feels forced with how you're supposed to feel and it just ruin a ton of scenes. Especially during the tense scenes because it is one of those damn horror films that use the "BRAAAAAAHHHH" sound during a jump scare! It makes scenes super cheesy! Speaking of cheesy, that old man scene! I bursted out laughing! I wasn't bugged too much with how the characters acted in the film, I can excuse some irrational actions because that's what humans are, but there are a ton of things that do push it. Like why would the little boy use a loud space toy when he SHOULD KNOW DAMN WELL by the information that we are given that it would be a bad idea to do so? That's the biggest one but when you break down certain character's actions and traits it can't help but feel like it's more so that either A, it's to exposition dump to the audience more about the rules, and B, these characters need to be dumb in order for the action to take place. And for the latter I can excuse that, but again there is a limit I can take!

Overall I can see why people like this movie, but honestly there's just so many problems with the film that I can't really give it too much credit than it's just around average. I didn't expect to like it, but I didn't hate it either. I was pleasantly surprised but I doubt I'll revisit this movie much after I had seen it to be honest.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I give the film a 2/10 namely because it was an interesting concept. Back in the eighties, Hollywood dabbled in films that were unique and driven by a fascinating take/premise on a given subject. So when I first heard about this film, I was intrigued and being a fan of suspense, of Alien and Aliens, I was curious while at the same time skeptical. I tend to find over-praised films suspicious. A Quiet Place has only the unique concept going for it. Beyond that, I found the story boring and lacking in any sense. As soon as I started to watch it, I began to shake my head. These creatures are attracted to sound and here we have a little boy running around an abandoned grocery store. Okay. He is bare foot but god, these parents are idiots. The movie is using this character only for the sake of exposition. Why would a scene like this exist otherwise? We need to set up the situation. Fine but if this was a realistic situation, these parents wouldn't need to explain that something was too loud when his toy is taken form him. In fact, I would be very certain such parents would use punitive measurements to stifle the childlike element of play in a raucous and irresponsible kid. Yet the movie must movie on. Yet after he is lectured, his sister, behind their parents' back hands him the toy. Great. Okay. And the boy has to have the batteries which are in reach and from there on, I knew what was going to happen. You don't have to watch too many movies to predict the results of all this. Again, I admire the film's premise but it leaves me with too many questions. For one, why not create a soundproof house? How can the creatures blindly navigate through forests? Do they use sonar and if so, why can't they use this to find their food/prey? And if they are not present near waterfalls, wouldn't it work out that emulating the sound of a waterfall be helpful in protecting one's family? There are other questions but these are only my handful that bothered me. Otherwise, I couldn't finish the film. After what must have been the shortest baby-birthing moment in history, the night of suspense continues on for this family. There is a tap left on. There is flood into the sound proof room. There is a nail in a place where a nail shouldn't be. The screenplay needs to happen but the lack of plausibility was getting on my nerves and I switched it off. I would avoid this one unless turning off your brain is easily done.

Again, a fascinating premise but nothing beyond it. Other than the regret and guilt and sorrow hanging over the loss of idiot boy who had to have his toy, you know little about these characters. They have no other motivations other than survive but even in Alien, the group of space riggers had distinct personalities or backgrounds. Who were these people before the invasion? You never get to find out. Frustrating and bland at the same time. Pass.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's well crafted, suspenseful, solidly acted, blah, blah. But the storyline is just so lacking. It's basically centered around creatures (from God knows where) that hunt by sound... Open with a post apocalyptic landscape, cue creature terror, an hour of obligatory human foibles/stupidity and finally, the sooo easy to predict weapon against creatures is found. That's it. They could have just as easily devised a movie about creatures that hunt on smell, calling in An Odorless Place. My old college roommate's farts would be used to overwhelm the creature's senses...in the end. Hard to believe it got such a high "meta" score and 83% approval on the tomato website. But then again, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure got 78% approval there. Expand

It is entertaining but here's basically nothing to this movie. It's like the popcorn at the theater. This movie is a series of suspense scenes with no real development. As the trailers show, aliens have invaded Earth and they are drawn to sound. So long as you're quiet you're safe. So this movie is about a family's efforts to remain quiet, and when you have kids that's not easy. That's it. The suspense scenes are entertaining, but they are all you get. You never find out a single thing about the aliens. You never find out a single thing about anything. The way the movie ends is cute but it's not the result of development. It's a shortcut ending that the story has not naturally built to at all. Bottom line. Fun but light and ultimately empty. Expand

At the end you just proved something: All these survival of the Apocalypse shows are inherently dull because to survive is to be boring.
The only one that got it right was "on the road" with Viggo Mortensen. It made us really consider the end of our civilisation as a metaphor for the 2007 crisis and death of the American middle class.

1: if the monsters can hear so well they must hear them breath or heart beat
2: why not live by the waterfall
3: in one and half year they built one sound professionally place
4: no one managed to figure out the high frequency weakness?
5: so a flimsy shot gun managed to take one down and the might of USA military couldn't?
6: why not flood the whole area with death metal music?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. On a purely superficial level this kept me entertained. I can see why it has gotten good reviews. I'm really not someone with very complex esoteric tastes when it comes to movies, and as a science fiction and fantasy fan I push the "I believe" button quite regularly, but there were far too many details about this one that instantly jumped out at me and made me cringe to let this pass without serious criticism. Spoiler alert if you haven't seen the movie - the rest of this review criticizes specific details.

For starters...the beginning of the movie...day 89. No back story to explain how these aliens arrived on earth. We're led to believe that its been almost three months since something apocalyptic has happened and yet the city streets are already conveniently lined with a soft path of beach white sand to minimize the sound of foot traffic. Where did all these tons of sand come from in only 3 months? At some point later in the move the main character adds a tiny amount of sand to a path from a pouch in his backpack...same question...where did that come from? There is no obvious source for this white sand in what appears to be a rural Midwest farming community. We are supposed to believe that miles of sand paths were placed in the short span of 3 months?

Leaving a toddler to bring up the rear of a group of people walking through a treacherous area lurking with monsters...yeah, that's realistic. The toddler would be either right in front of me or in my arms, not lingering behind where he can get snatched by the monster.

While there were many details that added to the script's credibility such as soft Monopoly board pieces and steaming food rather than frying it, but there were so many others left out it was ridiculous. Running water? Is the municipal water supply somehow still operational? Are they getting water from a well? Either way, running water makes noise and a water pump makes even more noise, and yet the monsters don't come running every time someone turns on the water.

Power...somehow there is electricity to power a multitude of electronics. I didn't see solar panels anywhere, or wind turbines. Where is the electricity coming from?

Delivering a baby. Wow...that was some conveniently quick and silent child birth! A broken water pipe floods the basement...how did that happen? A pipe mysteriously starts spewing water and filling the basement where the family is hiding out with their newborn. In what seems like a matter of minutes the basement has flooded and a monster is already there threatening mother and newborn. The monster heard the running water this time. Lame.

Acres of corn...somehow planted and harvested in complete silence.

Collective stupidity of the entire world...somehow humans are unable to figure out how to fight creatures who's existence depends on echolocation. Anybody heard of dolphins and whales? The U.S. Navy is getting sued constantly because sonar is injuring or even killing them and yet when the aliens appear on the planet we forget about sonic waves?

We shout out loud with gratitude in the face of an archaic cinema facet revivified by post-modern suspense genre: Silence.

What was the last time you watched a nearly-silent suspense film made by a major Hollywood studio? It seems that this question has no answer. The main originality builder here is its ability to evolve in a particular not-talking film, that's already a bombshell. With an over limited use of dialogues and an intrepid skill in conceiving an irrefutably captivating story with coherence and vigor, it seems impossible to make a movie without the actor's voice, for many artists is a requirement for storytelling understandability, since the characters are the link to the viewer, they make the connection, but, not all the stories take this kind of paths. Broadly speaking, this kinematic tool seems to be the engine of the idea, however, dissecting my own experience and some spectators' opinions, such a factor didn't work in top form.

Christopher Tellefsen deserves personalized recognition thanks to his decision of reducing as much as possible the length, synthesizing the crucial parts and discarding what doesn't contribute, focusing the core of an entertaining genre film. Time flies by as situations are located in the right place, carefully beneficial choices. After the screening, I found four memorable scenes, dark dreams coming true thanks to a set of artistic and creative components to achieve such level of effectiveness and unbeatable naturalness: The first one takes place at the beginning, just before the main titles make their appearance as vanishing powder; the second one is an incident inside a creepy silo; The third one is a painful sacrifice demanding a few wipes and the fourth one, exhibited in the last act, is starring Emily Blunt in a bathtub and the danger lurking, certainly brutal and the best of all the movie by far.

The sound section is good, but that isn't enough. Despite pictures had to execute the narrative function the dialogues could not, the accompaniment was to be exceptional, as original as the ideas of the script and terribly disturbing as it should be in a horror film. Two Oscar nominations, but Marco Beltrami's soundtrack doesn't have much to highlight because it complies with simple emotional, atmospheric compositions and loudly cheap high-sounding sounds when the creatures make their entrance, it's quite common and unimaginative in a manner of speaking. A huge dissatisfaction with such powerful references, however, the biggest disappointment was the sound editing work, which plays its role half-heartedly, it doesn't use an important feature in the way it should, a terrible flaw. While on several occasions a good frightening impact is achieved by breaking the silence with an accidental sound, all the alternatives the story had are not explored. With his third work as a director, John Krasinski burst into as an inventive and original voice for suspense genre. His film is a tension construction class, as well as a visual delight thanks to a sensible and exciting perspective on a story that isn't wasted. It's amazing to see how he understands the function of each camera movement, knows how to keep an exquisite timing between the characters and sets up vicious sequences that leave the spectator petrified. We place a value on the prioritization of the coherence and storytelling sharpness, bringing the characters in the foreground, not relegating efficient jump-scares with oppressive atmospheres leading to a breathtaking climax. Like hotcakes on the tables of the major studios, he announces himself as one of the most innovative Hollywood filmmakers and screenwriters at the expense of this spectacular debut that took everyone by surprise — let's just look at its worldwide box office, making "horror" movie history — not for his role as an actor, but for his unexpected endowments as far as cinematographic constructions are concerned. "A Quiet Place" by John Krasinski is a dystopian, heartbreaking, nerve-wracking nightmare, any reluctant spectator will end up surrendering to the supreme tension of this sci-fi thriller starring the never quiet life of this prepared family. Sometimes intense, poignant and irrecoverably tense; the humanity in its narrative mechanisms, the power of the pictures and the fireproof charm between the leads guarantee one of the best forays in the genre this year; alongside "Get Out" by Jordan Peele, it's really fascinating many comedy actors keep tremendous creative minds for different genres, ironic thing, we find horror in humor. Great achievements and broken promises, the film leaves an inexplicably bittersweet flavor, perhaps more bitter than sweet, because it disappoints to understand that most of the time, when hyper-positive buzz catapults a film tends to be a dissonant marketing squeal.

An original idea that probably won't suit everyone. In the beginning nothing much happens for a long time and it's more about building the atmosphere. There is hardly any talking in the film, which pretty much describes the title of the film, and you really need peace and quiet for this film. The pace is slower at first, but towards the end it starts to pick up and we do get some action. Probably the best thing about the film, or at least the thing I liked the most, was the monsters. Weird creeps that react to sound so the main characters have to live quietly to keep these bastards from having them for dinner. Overall, an interesting idea and for me a good horror film that I can recommend. Expand

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's go from the beginning. Creatures like shown in this movie could have never occupoed earth. They are stupid and highly vulnerable to loud noises. It's easy to lure them wherever you want and make them harmless with simple radio. So the setting is impossible. Okay, let's forget about that, and they did it. Killed most of the people on earth or in the area. Next thing. This family woudl have never lived this long. They act stupid. All the time. We could have justify their behaviour by telling that they had no resources or qualification. But they managed to create huge security system with lights and complicated radio rig. So they had no safe room? Is it that hard to make soundproof cellar? Harder then all the things they have? They have radio. Why do they need to have fireworks as a lure for creatures? Just to risk their lives? Why not to use simple sound system as a lure? Their father is intelligent enough to make a deaf-aid. And that's just big things. And okay sometimes director makes a play that has value not in terms of interest and plot but with visuals and complicated references or transfering interesting idea of the creator. And no. It uses all the cheap cliche from any horror film ever. So stupid that it's not even scary. Not telling anything about the characters or any particular story. And main idea is that kids will make you killed. Highly recommend to not to watch it. Expand

Better than Birdbox because it is more intense and exciting. Basically, people in this fictitious scenario are hardly allowed to make any noises.

The result is that as a viewer you always hold your breath briefly when the protagonists make a mistake.

The creatures are really cool and make disgusting noises.

That hardly or not at all does not matter, but one should have done without the music, at least for the most part, as it always felt unsuitable and just wanted to build up tension too much (not really necessary in the context of this film).

My biggest criticism of the film is that some situations just feel too constructed and sometimes you can't quite understand why the creatures are there after all or again.

So it could certainly have been packaged better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What is this. This movie was just the main cast running away from those things, the silence was just awkard and no thrillers at all, the end seem a little rushed because the dad dies they go, the beasts find them and blah blah blah, they shouldnt just made it all in one movie, I feel like the sequel is gonna be way more boring since they already know how to fix the "beasts". The cast wasnt that much of good actors, probably because 3-4 of them are kids/teens but the script also seem dumb, like whats the reasons behind all of this?? This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sadly, a Quiet Place is cliché, almost cringeworthy at times, with a plot that does not compel and an ending that does not engage. Within 10 minutes, after the initial scene in the store, I was taken out of the film: I cannot believe in an Alien invasion-apocalypse-thing that someone would leave their child behind in the store. An Alien invasion conveyed to us through newspaper clippings stuck to a board. I never particularly felt tense or scared throughout the runtime, and the concept leaves a million plotholes or ideas in the viewer's mind. However, the film is beautifully crafted and the scene with the fireworks is incredibly well done. But this section is just a beautiful needle in a very uninteresting haystack. By the end, you will still have no idea what the laws of the world actually are! Expand

They took this high-concept and stuck to it without really doing enough to go above the concept. Worse still are the grating plot potholes that are dutifully ignored by the filmmakers. This family survive 3 months and basically are alone in the world but do some really stupid things. Plus, how did the threat survive with their main prey all but gone. Anyways the film looks great and sounds spectacular, possibly the best sound design I've ever heard, which is important for a film about not making a sound! Incredibly well acted. Pacing not perfect, for a 90-minute film it could lose 10 minutes, I looked at my phone a few times. Overall, it is worth seeing but it is very unrelenting and bleak, the filmmakers were not from the Hitchcock school of film. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Suspensefully made dystopian horror sci-fi film starring the wonderful and beautiful Emilly Blunt. The film begins after the events of an invasion by horrific beings from outer space. In the course of the film, the protagonists have to prove their strengths and weaknesses to the invaders from space and it turns out that despite all caution and prevention, fate is not always kind to them, just like in real life. The CGI's are in the upper range and the suspense is maintained until the last minute. At the end of the movie you wish for more, what's next, is there a happy ending or is it just going to get worse?! That's probably why a sequel was shot two years later, which is also very good and roughly shows the beginnings of the invasion. Another third film is already being planned, which is very gratifying. I hope again with the amazing Emilly Blunt and the same director. The solid and technically good directing by the director John Krasinski is expressly worth mentioning here. All in all a very good and exciting film, which shines with a solid story and its main actors. Expand

The premise of theJohn Krasinski took a break from his comedic roles to direct the horror film, A Quiet Place. Starring alongside his wife, Emily Blunt, the movie marked a departure from his usual style and a foray into the horror genre. The premise of the movie, set in a post-apocalyptic 2020 where the world has been overrun by monsters that hunt by sound, is not entirely original but it is executed extremely well. The Abbott family, Lee (Krasinski), Evelyn (Blunt), Regan (Simmonds), Marcus (Jupe) and Beau (Cade Woodward) must use sign language to communicate and with one of them being deaf, it becomes second nature. The family must stick together after a tragic accident causes their numbers to shorten, but with a newborn on the way, things won’t be easy. The use of sound is a major factor in the success of the movie, with silence and musical cues being used sparingly and cleverly. The small cast all perform confidently, with Millicent Simmonds being cast in part because of her being deaf to add authenticity. The movie is creepy and at times, seat-grippingly so, with moments that don’t require sound or dialogue to elevate them. The movie had a snappy 90-minute runtime and was a bucketload of fun, but there were moments that didn't entirely work for the reviewer, such as the undercooked subplot of giving birth, and the conclusion was good but not as satisfying as the reviewer had hoped.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The basic premise of this movie is so illogical and the solution to the problem so simple that it defies the suspension of disbelief. The monsters can't tolerate certain frequencies of sound and as we find out in the end their heads can be blown of with a shotgun. so what's the problem? Maybe their heads can only be blown off in the last five minutes of the movie, because its always nice to have a feel good "blow it away" moment to end on. But really no! this is just bad writing. Very bad writing. The kind of writing where you go for some dramatic moment or moments but fail to create a logical consistent reason or set of circumstances why that moment should happen. The result of that is those the dramatic moments become rather silly. The moment that your solution to defeating the monster race that plunged the world into post apocalyptic chaos is so simple that any kid with half brain can come up with it.That's just sooooo bad. Writers shame on you. Expand
