A new Christmas classic is born. The movie makes you believe its another Jingle All the Way or A Christmas Story type movie but throws you a curve at the end to provide a bit more heart than either. Some will say its a cheap cheesy ploy. I say you have become too cynical if that's how you interpreted it. If you grew up in the 80's you will love this movie and your kids will enjoy it too. For anyone else it may be a bit strange and you may not laugh as hard but you should still get the movies message, family.… Expand

A Christmas Story but in the '80s and with a Nintendo! 8-Bit Xmas is like watching a contrived, lazy script being pitched in real-time to a bunch of cynical suits with no sense of shame or irony. Dreadful. Truly dreadful. Not even bad in a good way!

The only reason I wanted to watch this was for Neil Patrick Harris (gay adjacent), but turns out he plays a father recounting his childhood story, so he’s not on camera a lot. Protagonist (Young NPH) spends the entire movie wanting a Nintendo and settling for a treehouse he gets for Christmas instead because overzealous parents ban Nintendo from their entire town. The ending ruined the whole movie, stopped watching after the ending where he didn't get what he wanted after trying so hard. Ending should be rewritten.… Expand

Given the fact that most of the film takes place in the 80s I was expecting a slightly different approach similar to “Good Boys” (2019) because I was under impression that this movie is for those who feel nostalgic about the time and thatGiven the fact that most of the film takes place in the 80s I was expecting a slightly different approach similar to “Good Boys” (2019) because I was under impression that this movie is for those who feel nostalgic about the time and that console generation. Unfortunately, this film is not rated R, which results in a childish humor and a very light tone. However, this lighter tone works for a family friendly Christmas movie that surprised me with its heart and moral message. In times when kids grow up chasing materialistic things that supposedly could make them happy according to social media this movie teaches a very valuable lesson and also manages to be kind of fun.… Expand

I really enjoyed this movie, it's got a really nostalgic feeling even though I wasn't alive back then.

The jokes were funny although not all that clever. I wouldn't even really call this a comedy, it's more Slice of Life. It's heartwarmingI really enjoyed this movie, it's got a really nostalgic feeling even though I wasn't alive back then.

Sweet enough and fun enough. I think 8-bit Christmas might appeal more to people who have the 80s gaming nostalgia.
