The movie did all it I expected it to do; it entertained me well. I enjoyed the backgrounds, the battles, and the highly-stylized feeling of the film.

The major error of the film is the portrayal of the Persians. There were in no way as monstrous or demonic as they were portrayed here. Where's the Blood ? Ok, ok - there was lots of "CG" blood - but where was the blood that "should have been there" ? There were stabbings, impalings, decaptations and more - blood was "flying around", but apparently it all evaporated !! Where's the Blood ? Ok, ok - there was lots of "CG" blood - but where was the blood that "should have been there" ? There were stabbings, impalings, decaptations and more - blood was "flying around", but apparently it all evaporated !! None landed on anyone, on the ground, on the sheilds - no blood to be found anywhere ! Even the bodies of those killed with arrows lying on the ground there was no blood surrounding the punctures. Ok, so you may say that it was supposed to be "art" and not reality - fine - but for my tastes, it seems like a glaring omission of detail that would have made a bigger impact if they had actually left the blood in. Lastly - I have NO idea what was historically accurate versus what was made up - (and I don't really care) - but what struck me as odd was that why-oh-why, if you "had" hundreds of thousands of Spartans to send to battle, why would you only send 300 ?? If you were the King - just "do" it ! Why be a slaughtered lamb for nothing ?? This lack of logic is just as dumbfounding as that stupid Last Samurai movie, where they all went to battle for the sake of stupidity - and even after losing, life went on as it did before - (basically they fought and died for nothing). You would think that I did not like the movie from this review - but apart from the lack of "logical" blood and the fallacy of the slaughter of the 300 lambs - I thought the movie was thoroughly enjoyable. (Yes, I just said I thoroughly enjoyed it !) Expand

There is a delineation between the two. 300 is not thought provoking or extraordinarily deep...but DAMN is it fun to watch! The cinematography was gorgeous and seamless and the fight scenes were very well choreographed. For those who complain about its historical accuracy...people...this movie was based on a graphic novelist's exaggeration of the original story. And to add to the people who complain that it's a "propaganda movie:" This was a historical event that took place 2000 some odd years ago, so to say that we are giving it modern attributions is borderline ridiculous. Also...300 vs. a metric ton of soldiers sounds more like the insurgency vs. the US rather than the other way around. That being said, I would highly recommend going to see this movie for its sheer entertainment value. If you go expecting to see a "Best Picture of the Year" movie then don't. If you go expecting to see eye candy in every sense of the word then absolutely go. Expand

300 is an action movie that takes heroic action back to the Medieval times. Its about the legendary 300 Spartans who stood against the might Persian army. A lot of people complain that this movie is very inaccurate historically. That is 300 is an action movie that takes heroic action back to the Medieval times. Its about the legendary 300 Spartans who stood against the might Persian army. A lot of people complain that this movie is very inaccurate historically. That is partly true however there were some parts in which the movie was historically accurate. The Spartans really did throw out there kids and they really did give them brutal training they really did grow up in a world of violence. However the the movie was inaccurate in some of the battle scenes. There weren't really trolls the Spartan soldiers did were armor on their torsos and the famous line ''we will fight in the shade'' was not said by after a Spartan sliced off a Persian army however the arrows did block out the sun they got that part right. No doubt about it this movie is hard core except for the end were the king went soft. The battle scenes were very satisfying to watch. The story is enough to keep you interested in what will happen next.however if its the historically inaccurate content that deflects your interest away from the movie than watch a documentary or something. This movie was not intended to be historically accurate. There is some content that they just didn't need to put in there but if you want some graphically realistic movie than you've come to the right place. Over all this movie is worth watching if you a fan of action movies. the acting was good and its a good movie overall. Expand

Lot's of blood and gore make this a perfect film for the battle lover. The coloring of the movie is interesting and unique, and the story-line is basic but good. It is based on true events, however exaggerated a bit. There's some elements of fantasy thrown into the mix as well, but not too much that it leads you off the path of the story. It's relatively easy to follow and I think it's a great movie filled with guts and brutal violence. Expand

And maybe some sex. ;) Ok, so first off im not the type of person who gets offended easily. So I don't care if this movie offended any great nations I just want to watch a good movie. And this is what 300 is. Three-hundred is based of a comic book about 300 Spartans fighting the mighty nation of Persia. This is historical except for some parts of the story. By the way the story is good, just because of the pacing and interesting characters. What put me on the edge of my seat was the action set peices, their amazing, the great visuals also make this movie nice to look at. The special features have alot of interesting stuff watch. One problem I had with the movie was the parts in Sparta during the fighting. They had me extremely bored and I just wanted to get back to the action.
I would buy this movie.

If you are doing so, you clearly didn't watch the movie, probably due to you overbearing, murky and obnoxious hubris clouding your field of vision and attention span. The story isn't supposed to be accurate, it's a STORY being told by the one eyed soldier that was sent off for his storytelling skills. That's why he's narrating it, and that's why everything in the movie is exaggerated and over-the-top, because it was meant to inspire troops. Pay attention people. Anyway as a whole the movie is powerful, visually engaging, sticks to the source material while being innovative and fun, and even manages to get a tad bit emotional at parts.

Finalement !

The film has good action scenes that raise the testosterone of any being, the badass speech and a little emotion between the slaughter. I think a bad point is that things happen very fast and without much depth.

The film is based on the real Battle of Thermopylae and on the Frank Miller's comic that is very good and (IMO) more aggressive. I recommend both.

Well i had been waiting to see 300 for some time and i finally saw it. I enjoyed it yes, but admittedly i did walk away feeling somewhat less satisfied than i thought i would.

The visuals were brilliant, action second to none, and im sure so many oiled, well chiseled bodies have never graced the screen at any one time.

But i think that the somewhat second rate script, and at times sub-par acting took something away from it in the end.

To be sure it was an enjoyable 2 hours. But it just wont be a 2 hours your likely to remember for a great deal of time.

Just odd comments here and there that sounded thrown in in a half-hearted attempt to make the greeks seem current, or to make us relate maybe. I've not read the graphic novel so I'm not sure that's present there as well, but the visual homages to renaissance christian images did much less to dampen the mood than the strange bursts of timeliness. It really bothered me how historically inaccurate it was. I can forgive certain exaggerations and changes for the sake of movie making, but this is blasphemy, this is madness. I did enjoy all the Spartan quips and quotes they worked into the dialogue, as did the audience who laughed at each one. All the actors excelled at their roles, especially considering it was all filmed against a green screen. Gerard Butler was perfect as King Leonidas. Rodrigo Santoro as Xerxes was very imposing as well. The thing that really hurts 300 is that it can't decide if it wants to be a historical epic, comic book or video game, so it blends all three genres together with mixed results. But all in all, it should be seen. If for no other reason than to remember the epic battle and those who gave their lives to save western philosophy, rhetoric and democracy. Expand

The viewer wont be bored for the next 3 hours (except maybe by some of the political scenes at come up between the battles). Still, the whole "super fighting force" idea is not new and this film wont be the last to use it. I heard a lot of rumors that this is a fascist attempt to show how one race is superior to another. Personally I think that no one should refer to WW2 by watching this film as probably the Germans stole the whole idea from the Spartans (i doubt if it was the inverse). The graphical effects of the film are stunning and the switch between slow motion and normal one are well placed and keep the viewer hooked for the duration of each battle. The climax comes when you see father and son fighting alongside, killing a mass of enemies. This film is far more about male-bonding then something else. People will probably claim its more or less "a homosexual feast" and I would be partially one with their opinion - something about 300 pumped on steroids warriors makes me feel a lot more feminine then usual. In conclusion this film is entertaining and would be difficult to forget. Some of the punch lines will stay with me for the next ten years. This film is good and to say the opposite would be madness. Madness? No! This is Sparta! Expand

I'm Greek and I found this movie quite interesting... *SPOILERS FOLLOW*
I have read the comments and reviews submitted from the other users and I have to say that most people are quite ignorant either in regards to the movie or to the history of Thermopylae. This movie was not made to offer a historical account of how things happened and as such one can find a lot of inconsistencies. I read a comment about the Spartans being savages and worthless (LOL!) now how can they be worthless and victorious at the same time (although they were all killed this was a HUGE strategic victory) I do not know. I have to say though that there is a tendency in this movie to portray the Persian army as decadent and weak but I think this serves as a method to contrast the two civilizations and their strengths and weaknesses. For example the Spartans were exceptional in hand-to-hand combat while the Persian army relied on archers and cavalry (including chariots).Furthermore, the Spartan soldiers wore heavy armour and carried large round shields in contrast to their opponents who wore expensive jewellery and bright coloured garments -to impress their adversaries with their wealth- and light armour (their shields were made from some kind of bamboo). Both civilizations were equally magnificent (in my book) and the fact that the 'immortals' are portrayed as deformed people is outrageous. Further to that the Persian army had no ogres and goblins (lol) and I do not think they brought any elephants or rhinoceros to fight the Spartans. The side story with the Spartan queen being 'raped' is 100% BS - if there was ONE place in the world at that time where women had power and were respected (sometimes even more than men) that was Sparta...I cannot imagine any woman being raped in Sparta let alone the QUEEN! Since the movie is based on a COMIC BOOK I believe it was wise to use a CG environment and give it a gleam tone so that it will look like a comic. The fight sequences are very impressive and I think this is a very good action movie overall.

The movie is at it's best on the battlefield where the brutality, memorable one-liners, and sexy bodies are allowed to shine. These Spartans don't stand as tall when the slaughter gives way to the story. The narrative is simply not very interesting. This is due to how faithfully it adapts the source material. Frank Miller's graphic novel is simplistic, but entertaining because of the violence and art style. Almost every scene comes directly from one of the comic's panels. So the lackluster plot is no the often criticized director's fault. If anything, Snyder's role as one of the screenplay's co-writers is of benefit to the film. The original subplot where Queen Gorgo struggles to win over support from the Spartan Council is actually quite good. Of course this is also helped by Lena Headey's strong performance.

Considering how the movie suffers from the same flaws of the work on which it is based while simultaneously captures it's strengths, this might just be the most faithful adaptation ever created. 300 would rather flex it's physical muscles as opposed to it's intellectual ones, leaving most of it's brains to be smashed under Spartan heels. Yet the stylish action scenes (complete with cool slow-mo kills) and grand masculinity on display allow for plenty of barbaric thrills. The remarkably physicality on display alone make the blood spilt much more viscerally entertaining. Plus it almost made me like Gerard Butler. It's a big, dumb action movie, but it's depiction of war is spectacular and grand. As a result it's able to win you over with it's gory conflicts, hyper-stylized world, and somewhat bizarre fantasy elements. You'll just wish there was a little more going on with the story and characters.

Now it is safe to say that I am not a huge fan of heavy CGI based films and the 300 fits into this category perfectly. With this in mind I was not sure I would get on too well with this film.

However, the stylised CGI in 300 moulds very well with the character design. Rather than the film feeling like they have simply pasted live actors into a CGI background, they blend perfectly. The resulting effect adds greatly to the film making it enjoyable to watch.

The story is also quite compelling, with strong character backgrounds. So this is not simply a shallow "hack fest", although having said that there is plenty of gory scenes to keep the lads happy. Not one for sitting down with the wife and a bottle of wine though!

All in all 300 is a very well produced film with quality CGI and for the most part good acting. Worth a rent for a lads night.

Not a classic but good fun nonetheless! Ta. Expand

Visually this film was stunning, and to be honest it almost got told the story in an interesting way, but unfortunately missed the mark and it became very boring in parts.

Reading other reviews, I imagined it to be an over-hyped, internet meme inspiring, dull action flick. Was I right? Sort of. 300 is not a bad movie. It certainly could have been better no doubt, but it isn't bad. The action is good though there is many an overuse of dramatic slow motion for the simplest skirmishes. The story manages to make itself known, but isn't paid enough attention. I didn't love this movie when I finished it, but I was content with it. As a cult movie, it's great but as a Hollywood action flick, it lacks. Not bad but certainly not fantastic. Expand

Oh and what is a movie for male adolescent without hot women and a steamy sex scene in slo-motion. C'mon the packaging is very straight forward. I think it would be the viewer's fault to expect some kind of responsible message from it. It's not like it was pretending to be higher than a blood and guts movie, let's just take it for what it is. Just an average movie. Yeah it was pretty, but the disappearing blood bothered me a bit. It's just ehhhhh. Wait for a rental.

Good, but lacked that "wow" factor. Great special effects & fight sequences, but no goosebumps or adrenaline rushes.

I thought the battle scenes were spectacular. The rest was kind of silly. "Give them nothing, but take from them everything?" Come on Now.

Unfortunately, I came in to watch what I thought was indeed overrated by people who have not seen it or was taken in by the blood gushing, jaw dropping visual effects rather than the whole thing put together. Possibly just the general public who are easily entertained or found some good somewhere, to be frank, it needed more work. Sure, comic book and history may be the problem, but I still don't see it mix and matching. It reminds me of Braveheart mixed into some bits of Gladiator, just not as well. If you like blood, gore, stunning scenes, and love dining in hell go watch it. If not, wait to rent. I can tell you thing though, a lot of movies are keeping a constant thing going, something new would be nice. Almost like some companies here who just love to make more than 10 of the same sports game for product sales (can't point fingers). Expand

It didn't bother me that it wasn't historically accurate, I prefer it that way. I consider Sin City a masterpiece and was disappointed that 300 wasn't of the same quality. Expand
