The GC version gets a better graphics boost than the Xbox counterpart, but both versions pack the same great gameplay.
-
Everything about The Sims just reeks of quality and charm; from the way that every Sim action is beautifully animated to the way they talk to each other, and you, in voices that you can almost make out. But cant.
-
The Xbox version of The Sims trades the PC versions precise control for much improved presentation and more directed gameplay.
-
Game InformerThrough polygonal graphics, tons of new items, and hilarious level-based play, I can honestly say that the Sims has never looked or played better. [Apr 2003, p.93]
-
While The Sims isnt a totally radical departure from its PC origins, the Xbox version scores just a tad higher than on the other console version Ive played, the GameCube, because of its slightly better graphics, more comfortable controller, and easier game save system on the built-in Xbox hard drive.
-
It's a time killer, a well-built and smartly designed invention, and addictive in the end.
-
Official Xbox MagazineThe combination of a level-based game, free play mode, and two-player makes for an infinite amount of replayability. It's not an earth-shattering port of the PC game, but it does bring something new to The Sims experience. [May 2003, p.70]
-
A unique life-simulator that is definitely worth a look for its novelty alone.
-
Wildly addictive and simply unbelievable.
-
Xbox Nation MagazineWall your Sim in a doorless room with no food or toilet facilities, and watch her whiz on the floor. [June-July 2003, p.90]
-
This console version makes enough changes to the original game that even hard-core "Sims" purists will want to give it a spin.
-
Cheat Code CentralIt's really a lot more like real life than you may realize - but if you're playing this game alone on a Friday or Saturday night - this game has got to be a lot more fun than your life.
-
Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately, The Sims is otherwise extremely faithful to the gameplay of the original game, shortcomings and all, and it's more or less identical to the PS2 game.
-
It does suffer from what I'd consider major control and tweaking issues, enough so to ruin a great deal of my experience.
-
A solid experience, but won't have any appeal for anyone that's played the original PC title.
-
If you find yourself liking the game, you'll be hooked for weeks. It isn't for everyone, though, so those looking for action and excitement are better off looking elsewhere.
-
Most home computer gamers will find this version of The Sims to be a novel diversion, but they will eventually return to their monitors and keyboards for the easy, open-ended play that is only available there.
