Word of advice to the developers: When creating the next installment of this franchise, do what you did with the presentation end of things, and almost completely rip-off Grand Theft Auto, and their gameplay. It'll make this sort of title appeal to almost everyone.
-
The arcade racing physics and handling engine by Rat Bag is about as sweet as the Lee's insignia orange paint.
-
The game is just as dated as the show and it fares just as well with its console competition as the original series would if it debuted on prime time next week.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyIf "Driver" married its cousin, there's a good chance the spawn of said union would look a lot like The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee. [Oct 2004, p.129]
-
With all the focus developers put into the presentation of the story, it seems like they forgot to tighten up the actual gameplay element. The end result is a great game for Dukes fans, but nothing more than a mediocre racing title for the rest of us.
-
The General Lee's controls are really rough. I don't think I have played a driving game that handles this poorly. It's so loose that sometimes it's outright hard to control.
-
It features a plot worthy of the TV series, a number of the original TV actors reprising their roles...and boring, frequently broken gameplay that absolutely ruins the entire experience.
-
The car never really feels grounded, but rather appears to float at a high rate of speed. It doesn't take much more than too much gas and too sharp a turn to start spinning, adding unnecessary aggravation to some of the longer missions.
-
Not only did this title have mediocre gameplay, but it also stomped upon my fond memories of a beloved childhood show.
-
It will offer you around five to ten hours of solid gameplay.
