I think this game was overrated. The team command was totally unnessisary and felt forced. Why do I have to wait for an icon to appear behind a bolder to have my guy snipe there? Why can't I tell him to snipe anywhere? On one level one of my teammates kept getting stuck on a rock. I had to restart the level. If you want to command a squad, play brother in arms.

I found this game almost impossible to play especially when you have to hold your squads hand every second giving you virtually no time to fight or defend yourself especially against impossible enemies.

The game is also to linear and the instructions aren't very good and there is no on screen help to get you going in the beginning like most games. I would only recommend this for

I would only recommend this for Hardcore gamers who have to play every FPS out there.

For big Star Wans only. Quite a boring and frustrating game really. I like games where you are not a lone warrior but the squad mechanics are not very good. Game-play can also be repetitive and boring.

great game but way too short! I wouldn't be suprised if LucasArts put another ridiculously short deadline on getting this game out and the developers didn't have time to add anymore levels, just like they rushed out KOTOR II. Or maybe they are just setting up for Republic Commando 2?

Although the game has its moments, I have to say that I am a bit disappointed by Star Wars: Republic Commando

Cool story line for star wars fans, but way too short of a game... I got through it in about 8-10 hours.

Typical Star Wars elements are to be found here: sound, music, characters (no Jedi???), gameplay and blasters. A good game that lacks one major element: level design with "Depth".

A Star Wars game that doesn't involve massive amounts of jedi interference? Count me in. Each commando has a different set personality which makes interaction between them quite enjoyable and humorous. The gameplay is straightforward; shoot and give orders. You'll occasionally be separated from your squad and forced to go solo. This is in part where some things go wrong. Compared to being squaded, the environmental hazards all of a sudden become life threatening when interacted with, causing many unnecessary deaths. The graphics are well done, however it's the soundtrack that plays a crucial role in defining atmosphere around graphics. Most of the soundtrack is just re-hashed, episode one tracks. Large Difficulty spikes near the end also leave players feeling a bit cheated, as well as a cliff hanger ending, just leaves one unsatisfied. However if you like SW and FPS's I would give this game a shot. Expand

I had fun with Republic Commando but, to be honest, I wouldn't give two **** about this game if it didn't carry the Star Wars name. And I dare say that you also wouldn't.

I like the fact that this game manages to capture what we've seen/read about the clone wars, putting you in the boots of Delta Squad's leader. Giving orders to your team, managing them in the field, aiding them when they need, blasting droids and even ocasionally seeing familiar faces was pretty fun. I also loved the portrayal of famous Star Wars areas, ESPECIALLY Kashyyk's Shadow Lands, which's always a great place to visit in a SW game. I somehow got lightly attached to my teammates. Maybe it was the convincing voice actors. Or maybe it was because they're clones and I LOVE that era of the saga. Probably the latter.
The shooting's quite competent. Not quite as tactical as I expected, but if you go in gun's blazing, you'll quickly die. This isn't Doom and it's better for it. Soundtrack's also pretty good, but that should go without saying, since most SW games nails the music and atmosphere. And while the challenge feels unfair, the sense of accomplishment you get after surviving a maneuver with your squad is great.

The problem with Republic Commando is that, besides being a SW fps, it's just very... Generic?
The shooting might be good, but it lacks any surprises. Enemy variety is a joke and some objectives are utterly unbalanced. In the first mission you are a badass, but on the next, your character is made of GLASS! Anything kills you! Especially since you're alone for the majority of that level.
The environments are cool, but they're only cool because you know them from the SW's universe. Outside of that, they're bland, uninspiring and painfully repetitive.
Checkpoints are atrocious, the AI doesn't always function as well as it should, the weapons feel weird to use and everything gets old fast. This game only has 3 missions, around 8 hours, but it manages to OUTSTAY ITS WELCOME! The controls are very clunky too. Even changing weapons or picking up ammo feels, somehow, unresponsive. I get that the game is old, but goddamnit, HALO Combat Evolved is from 2001 and did it masterfully.
As for the story? It's nice. Typical Star Wars. I liked it. Until the final scene, which just murdered the climax. Credits just rolled. A big letdown, to be frank.

Whether I recommend Republic Commando or not can be boiled down to a question:
    Do you love Star Wars?
If you do, pick it up. It's filled with flaws, but you'll get some entertainment out of it.
If you don't, just stay far away from it.

I think Republic Commando is a solid game. The graphics don't age that badly the gun play is good the squad mechanics are not very deep but are enjoyable and it probably helps that im a Star Wars fan. On the flip side theirs a real lack in weapon verity especially early game. Lots of fun with a tense, gritty, boots-on-the-ground narrative. Solid game.

  2. Republic Commando should really be viewed as an incredibly solid, compelling, stylish title that has the ability of being able to be played over Xbox Live should you fancy it.
  3. What's most disappointing about the whole thing, though, isn't so much the lack of me-too deathmatch variants, but that LucasArts didn't bother to allow players to play the campaign mode co-operatively as Red Storm achieved so successfully in the likes of Ghost Recon 2, Rainbow Six 3 and Black Arrow... As it is Republic Commando deserves huge respect for managing to be the best Star Wars shooter ever.
