Whats unfortunate is there is no real difference in graphics from Sega GT 2002, which is disappointing. I would have liked to have seen better car models, car damage and effects. Why is it that games which claim excellent realism, often the cars handling is poor?
-
For all its faults, Sega GT Online is a good arcade racer -whilst the likes of TOCA and Project Gotham go for simulation, Sega GT gives you an old-fashioned (and some would say out-dated) arcade feel.
-
This isn't the best buy if all you want is an online racer. That's, by far, GT Online's weakest aspect, which is why the final score is drastically lower than the original.
-
I have major issues with the steering being too sensitive, but most everything seems to chug along quite nicely. Outfitting cars and stocking up the garage is always fun, but prepared to invest some time to do so.
-
TotalGames.netDespite improvements, the game does look visually dated, and as such can't hope to top PGR2 in a beauty competition.
-
The game runs smoothly and offers decent competition from the cpu cars.
-
At every turn, Sega GT Online screams "middle of the road", beset with every GT cliché in the book and with few noteworthy features beyond the obvious online antics to make it stand out from the overcrowded ranks of Gran Turismo wannabes.
-
While the $20 price tag might seem like a great reason to pick up Sega GT Online, its not.
-
If you have played Sega GT 2002 at all, in any way, stick clear of this title, and avoid that empty feeling you'll get from paying money to play it.
-
The $19.99US price point doesnt make it a complete write-off.
-
Regardless of which online game type you decide to compete in, any game that you play will be stricken by a pretty severe amount of lag.
-
Edge MagazineUltimately, owners of Sega GT should ask themselves whether a handful of new elements and the online component are worth the investment (even at the reduced price). [Feb 2004, p.107]
-
GMR MagazineGT Online's price merely makes it attractive in a low-budget, disposable way. [Jan 2004, p.90]
-
games(TM)The unmistakable quality persists but only the keenest fans are likely to find the online component draw enough to upgrade, while the same newbie-repelling difficulty as before may struggle to attract fresh followers. [Jan 2004, p.115]
-
The online experience as a whole needs some serious work. Im not sure if its lag-related, or simply poor coding, but its not unusual to see cars sort of stutter their way ahead of or behind you in turns. Collision detection is also fairly shoddy online.
-
If you expect the budget price to reflect the game's poor online performance, you shouldn't be too disappointed. If you demand the same performance and quality in your games that you do in your cars, you'll probably want to pass this one over.
-
The offline modes of Sega GT Online are completely intact and even deeper than before, with more cars and tracks, so at $20 it's a fantastic deal if you haven't already played it. But if, instead, you're looking for the best online racing game, Sega GT Online just isn't it.
-
I would suggest at least getting the buggy parts of the Live experience cleaned up before you release a game like this to the public.
