Man.. some sad and contradictory thoughts on the game below me. Just to clear this up, the game IS on xbox live. Nice research - I'm sure you've played the game lots. Besides some new gameplay modes, I don't see a lot of changes from 2004. That's not such a bad thing - it was great last year.

This game is just so... um... EA. And no, that's not a compliment. Mediocrity, thy name is EA. Even with the forced price drop due to 2K5's price point, this is still not worth the money.

No live, no love. +5 for a decent game, -5 for ignoring what would be the coolest game ever to play online. Get a clue, EA; you had a whole year to do just this. No soup for you!

Its too bad because most of the other aspects of the game are well designed..they had awesome potential here..however any baseball game is only as good as the hitting...this game gets a big fat 0 in my book. They start you off with a tiny stadium and you have to earn money, mostly by cutting cost on players, in order to break even for the first year. Who the hell wants to cut back on their star players in a baseball game. THEY ARE THE REASON YOU WANT TO PLAY THE GAME! plus the more you initially cut back on the budget the less money you get from tv and ads, which defeats the purpose of cutting coasts. While it may get a little easier to make some money down the line, a few years down the line if you dont get fired for loosing money first, you till do not have enough to get the stuff you want. It is just stupid. why would anyone want to start off with the yankees or redsox and then play in a park that only holds 20k people? One of the best thing about a large market sports team is that they have alot of money, alot of built in fans, and a huge ballpark. You get none of these in owner mode. This concept is moronic and has absolutly no place in a baseball game. if you want to play it for its good aspect, which are much the same as last year, do not bother with owner mode, they still have dynasty mode without all the stupidity, so you would be much better off with that. Excellent game. As real as it gets out there. Hitting is very difficult on MVP and some people don't like the challenge. (Those who gave it 0's.) Must buy for people that like realism.

Hitting stats are out of this world good and there are 25+ guys who are better than Barry Bonds at the plate. Pitchers are the opposite. Their stuff sucks compared to the original players and they make it up with control. Also, there are too many starters who only have 1 other pitch (2 total). Like last year, you can edit any player even within the dynasty/owner mode. One thing I'd like them to add is potential and a break down of a pitcher's pitches to the player cards. It's annoying having to use edit player to see whether the guy's stuff is any good. Trading is very realistic and sometimes extremely frustrating when trying to unload an aaging, high-priced vet. The owner mode is cool the first few years but if you start winning it gets old. What's cool is that you can have any payroll you want--just make enough (win enough) to cover it. Creating the ballpark in owner mode sucks; the parks are predesigned and there are only 4-5. Overall, the game is good and enjoyable. I haven't played ESPN so I can't compare the two but you will definitely get your money's worth from MVP Baseball 2006 despite its flaws. Expand

In typical EA fashion, place this disk in last years box and you have the same looking game..the only difference is a few tweaks here and there in owner mode.---how scary this is knowing EA will have the nfl for the next 7 yrs....Remember competition spurs creativity---what a shame.

Worst hitting I have seen in any baseball game. I honestly cant bellieve how bad the hitting is. How can they call this baseball? Last time I played baseball, I had to put the bat on the ball in order to hit it...not simply swing in the general direction of the ball. This is ridiculous! Save your money, this one is a horrible RIP OFF!

A strong nine at that: MVP 2005 is a great baseball game. The hitting is intuitive. When playing against a human competitor, the ease of use and the cat/mouse guess game, makes hitting a strategical element in the game. Even though you don't have the messy and pinpoint accurate control scheme doesn't mean the hitting isn't hard. Its easy to learn, but difficult to master. As for everything else about this game, you can't say enough about it. Fielding is fun, easy, and exciting. The different gaming Modes are very well done and immensely deep. And, througout the game you can tell EA raised the bar of how good a game looks and feels because of the subtle differences and nuances in the players and other elements in the games' reactions. I've been playing baseball games for a long time. I've always wanted one where I could play against another player online. This one does it right. As long as EA updates the roster I'll be playing this one for a long time. Expand

Play control is horrible. Never in my life have I played a baseball game that used so many f***ing buttons (i.e. 8 different ones just to run the bases) Also the CPU hitters are either psychic or on the juice b/c everything they hit is a bullet. Someone please bring back High Heat.

I have been playing EA Sports games since 1993, and what I can say about MVP 2005 is pretty much what I can say about every EA Sports games I have ever played: it is amazing! There are very few things that you can do in a real baseball game that you cannot do in this simulation.

I love this game and I hate baseball. Control is very natural and the animation makes you think you're watching a major league game rather than playing one. Unlike most sports games, I haven't found a single aspect to complain about. A fantastic game.

  1. I must say that I am very impressed with how smooth the game runs, and how smooth the gameplay is.
  2. The added mini games are used to spice up pitching and batting drills, making them as addictive as Bejeweled and Mine Sweep. Plus, the greatness of Xbox Live for online leagues, EA Sports Ticker and constant roster updates just makes things even sweeter for Xbox players.
  3. With great modes, gorgeous graphics and near perfect controls this one will no doubt be the franchise we turn to when we want a baseball game true to the sport itself.
