Multiplayer is a highlight, and it works incredibly well. [Nov 2002, p.132]
  2. This game has very few flaws with the exception of the controls.

There's absolutely no reason to give it a pass because you were diappointed in the first Mat Hoffman, because the two games have nothing besides the name in common.
  4. Although the controls are responsive, they’re far from easy to learn (even harder to master), especially if you’re just getting into the pool of extreme sports.
  5. If not for the tough level progression we might have been talking about this game in a completely different (and much happier) light.

Definitely follows the standard formula, bolstered by some nice additions. Then again, it’s an enjoyable formula that works—so no problem.
  7. There are plenty of challenges, huge playing environments and highflying tricks to give extreme sports gamers their money’s worth, but there are also a few flaws that can’t be ignored.
  8. Apart from having cool flatland tricks and an interesting road-trip theme, Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2 is rather stale.
  9. The XBox game looks a little better and has the obligatory extra rider and level, but it lacks the use of home made soundtracks, which is a bummer.
  10. 74
There's too much of an emphasis on fetching items rather than performing tricks and getting rewarded for doing them well.
  11. The game's shallow goal design keeps it from achieving the same level of addictiveness as games like "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3" and "Aggressive Inline."

The reality is that only those with a tremendous amount of talent and perseverance are ever going to see much of it. [Fall 2002, p.119]
  13. Our main gripe other than this that there is too much emphasis placed on completing the tasks in order to open up new levels – this is very restricting.

If you're down for another BMXer, Hoffman 3 is without a doubt the best it gets. [Oct 2002, p.85]

Unfortunately, from the second outing onwards (Chicago), the levels are pretty samey.
  16. The gameplay is as deep and as tight as previous games in this genre, but the gameplay is so perfectionist that the game is just not that much fun to play.
