Sharpen your swords, start pouring the silver and get ready to rock the undead back to their uneasy rests, because if you have even the slightest interest in removing zombie infestations, Hunter: The Reckoning is the game you've been waiting for your entire life.
-
Xbox Nation MagazineIts difficulty curve progresses gracefully, its atmosphere is immersive, and its visceral punch is straight to the gut. [Summer 2002, p.80]
-
The terrific visuals mixing with the well implemented sound effects and soundtrack make this game a real treat.
-
I would have liked to see the game have a few more levels but there is enough there to keep me entertained.
-
What differentiates Hunter from the other titles is the creativity in the weapons and monsters and something I like to call the 'oh (expletive)' factor. The 'oh (expletive)' factor is that 'oh my god' feeling when you see the amazing monsters scare the crap out of you in the game--and believe me they will.
-
Official Xbox MagazineOne of the most fun, frenetic, addictive multiplayer action shoot-'em-ups on Xbox, and, most likely, any system. [July 2002, p.73]
-
Hunter mixes hectic combat with moments of dark humor, creating an intense atmosphere that is quite addictive...The only downside is the length.
-
A bloody good game...If its good single-player action doesnt get you addicted, then the excellent multiplayer romp definitely will.
-
Hunter: The Reckoning is a fun game. The single player mode is enjoyable on its own, but this was made to be a party game.
-
Awesome environments, cool characters, and great weaponry, but there just isn't enough!
-
A graphically strong game that is crammed with action. It is not for everyone, and does have an undercurrent of pure evil in the story.
-
Entertainment WeeklyThis well-crafted game aspires more to the work of George Romero than to any dim-witted dungeon mash. [7 June 2002, p.80]
-
Its simplicity is what boosts its addictiveness. This isnt a game about complex strategy and well timed precision; its a game about kicking ass and having tons of fun with your friends.
-
netjakEven though I finished one character in under three hours only dying a few times when I met bosses, an average gamer can spend 10-12 hours completing each character.
-
Definitely a fun game, but it's also a short one. It shouldn't take you more than five hours to go from beginning to end.
-
Not since the original "Gauntlet" has mindless mayhem with friends been such a source of joy.
-
Game InformerThe hack n' slash equivalent of Ozzy Osbourne: It's a little slow, a little clumsy, and pretty damn incoherent, but somewhat charming in its own odd way. [July 2002, p.88]
-
A great visual and auditory package, and an extremely entertaining game to boot.
-
While the game's difficulty will vary depending on each gamer's proficiency, the game will appeal to both action and arcade fans alike.
-
Play MagazineMy appreciation for some of the best undead character design and animation I have ever seen, and an overall air of doom I can really sink my teeth into, far outweigh a few hiccups. [July 2002, p.76]
-
The graphics, sound, and game play all do a great job of conveying the mood the game is trying to establish.
-
The bottom line is how much you'll enjoy mastering the tricks of killing as many undead as possible without succumbing to their relentless onslaught. Playing Hunter: The Reckoning is a skill more than an experience, not unlike the arcade classics of the past.
-
Once youve gotten into the darkness that the game portrays, youll find that there is little here that is too difficult to figure out and most of what you find is all out action.
-
Aching to be more than it is, Hunter: The Reckoning is a pretty-looking, atmospheric action game that makes a decent weekend rental with pals.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyHunter would have benefitted from a ton more firepower - you know, the kind of bang-bang action where ammo is a foreign concept and you simply hold down the "kill" button to mow down everything in sight. [July 2002, p.122]
-
The ability to play with three other skilled hunters adds to the twisted fun, and is what ultimately raises The Reckoning just above an average rating.
-
But chopping realistic arms off of realistic zombies soon loses its appeal, and its not long before Hunter becomes a bore to play.
-
Sadly, the result is more Benny Hill than Silent Hill, there's no claustrophobia or tension, it's just hack-shoot-hackshoot- sod-this-where's-Halo. [XGamer]
