  1. The gameplay borrows heavily from the Zelda games and it works to great effect here. The controls are simple and easily mastered, never getting in the way of the gamer’s enjoyment of the game.

The best accolade Philosopher's Stone can receive is that it makes the events of the first story (published way back in the twentieth century) seem fresh for the fans, while hiding nothing from the uninitiated.

Worst of all, the game's general lack of polish also means that it's buggy and sometimes employs questionable character artificial intelligence.
  4. One of those games which you know is going to grate the nerves from the get-go; a cut-scene to show a door opening?
  5. Music and sounds are solid, but Harry Potters voice is like a cheese grater on the brain.

Games are meant to be played, not watched, and this one has more cinemas than "Metal Gear Solid." [Jan 2004, p.79]
  7. A weak follow-up to Chamber of Secrets that seems like an awkward fit for anyone who already owns last year's game.

Yep, this is basically a rehash of last year's Chamber of Secrets game for Playstation, with similar visuals, controls, and combat. [Mar 2004, p.82]

Yes, a lot of the gameplay is boring and clunky, but through books and movies we've come to think of Harry and crew as friends, so the true fan will be able to look past a lot of the game's quirks and have a relatively decent experience.

It's hard to even say what's good about the game, because every attempt to get at the fun parts is like swimming to shore with lead weights on both feet.
  11. Other than a couple isolated bits HP and the SS is a mess. And I didn’t play crap like this when I was a kid, at least not for long. I played Sonic. So there ya have it: Harry Potter is better than a Vomit flavored bean, but a little worse than Grass, and on a level with Booger.

I Prefer this Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone game to some of the other versions but there is still a few let downs for me. mainlyI Prefer this Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone game to some of the other versions but there is still a few let downs for me. mainly the health system, it is too hard to find extra health thus you die a lot. Also I found a few missions quite buggy, especially the last as there was chocolate front the first time I played it, I then died respawned and they weren't there, meaning I had to keep trying to play that mission with half a bar of health (which took ages), also on the final missions the dogs should die from the spell lumps but I found that they could jump through it which was really annoying. However all in all I do really like this game and think it is the best adaption of this film. Full Review »
