  1. Things get stale rather quickly, largely in part to the game's propensity to confining players to a single path through the campaign. The multiplayer doesn't help things along very much.

At the end of the day, it has quite a compelling story and where else are you going to hear Sean Connery in a videogame.
  3. Everything that was in "EoN" is back albeit with a contemporary 1960s setting including the gadgets, yet there's something distinctly lacking that fails to bring the game close to living.
  4. It lacks any measure of challenge, playing out more like a shooting gallery in spots than a proper action game. And above all else, it simply lacks that spark--that thrilling feeling that wasn't just one key part of "Everything or Nothing," but rather, was the entire essence of what made that game so enjoyable.
  5. In an effort to appeal to a wide range of gamers the gameplay is less than difficult. It's a lot less than difficult but it's not so much challenging as it is meant to be entertaining. Do I have to bring up the phrase "interactive movie" again?
  6. Like the films lately, the series is getting a bit stale no matter who dons the Bond moniker.
  7. An immersive game, but it's just too bad that the gameplay at the core of it is so ho-hum and bland.
  8. It all makes for an action game kinda like your typical Bond girl: fun to look at but shallow. With simple mission objectives, cinch puzzles, and autoaim (that you can tweak for more skillful shots if you like), this game practically plays itself.
  9. Here's the difference between "Everything or Nothing" and From Russia With Love: whatever you thought of its approach, "Everything or Nothing" had to be invented; From Russia With Love just had to be filled. And it has been - with stuff from "Everything or Nothing."
  10. Though challenging, it's also sometimes pedestrian, with a host of uninspired levels and dim bad guys ruining what could have been the triumphant return of 007.

In a lot of ways, these games are starting to mimic the films. They get released semi-regularly and right from the get-go we know what to expect; a reasonably engaging time that we'll quickly forget about as soon as we put the controller down.
  12. If From Russia With Love could be solely judged on its sheer Bond-ness, it would receive high marks thanks to the stunning music, the incredibly detailed in-game Sean Connery and the excellent voice acting. However, as an actual game, this one just doesn't do enough to impress.
  13. So take a chance, stop with this utterly average scripted nonsense and dare to be different, EA. You owe it to the nation. England expects... [Official UK Xbox Magazine]

Far too easy and unsatisfying to do justice to the source material.

There's not much here that's more challenging than slicking your hair into a Pierce Brosnan pompadour. [Feb 2006, p.93]

The missions are varied within a charming simple plotted story and the game design around it is pretty decent. You have lots of upgrade potential with weapon choice and the missions are easily replayable once unlocked. There is decent skill involved in not wasting ammo to make the game easy or hard depending on your skill. The atmosphere is immersive and the focus aiming mechanic is brilliant......and then all this is destroyed with terrible controls and aiming feel. I tried and tried to love this game cuz the potential is so easy to see but those controls were definitely not sharply customized to make this game nothing but regretfully frustrating. Lots of repeating areas because the game design was tighter than the controls. Further to that the 3rd person animations are quite spazzy and goofy as well. It also would have been nice for scrolling through target locked enemies too. In sum a phenomenal game reduced to meh by unoptimized game controls. Full Review »

It plays very similar to 'Everything or Nothing' but works so much better, everything just seems more polished and fluid.

The game is an adaption of the classic Bond film and mirrors it almost perfectly apart from some over the top driving sections and some levels feeling a bit drawn out. the whole thing plays out in the 1960's setting and the level designs feel true to the time.

The combat is still your basic 'Run & Gun' affair, with some on-rails & driving sections mixed in, but as always it works beautifully. everything is spaced out so that it doesn't feel repetitive & samey.

One thing I do have to mention is the voice acting for Bond. it's so inconsistent, I'm certain that a lot of it is just Sound bytes from the film, and the extra scenes are done by a bad impersonator. Although the game says "Starring Sean Connery" I'm guessing this is for likeness, I refuse to believe that it's actually him in these scenes, they're abysmal at times.

Overall, If you're a fan of 007, you have to add this to your collection, one of the best in the series and a joy to play through.

A somewhat fun yet flawed Bond game.

The graphics were impressive for the time. I love the soundtrack. I enjoyed the sound effects and design. The gameplay was very good. I liked the focus mechanic. I think this was the first game to have this mechanic. It followed the film albeit changing a few things near the end of the game. I also liked the upgrade system for weapons and gadgets by collecting schematics and cracking attache cases.

There were so many things that brought the game down: It had a constant frame rate drop, the controls were awful, the driving controls were slippery and broken, turret controls were so slippery and the multiplayer was a disappointment compared to Nightfire and Agent Under Fire.

It's a fun game but not as good as past Bond games.
