Just finished this game and had an absolute blast! So many different options and endings has me starting the game again to try for a different ending. Some of the graphics need some tweaking on Xbox X but overall a stunning game. Loved it!

The Quarry is a good looking, unique story driven experience that I stumbled upon in the xbox store in the new releases list. For some reason, maybe the setting, the graphics, or the characters, I found a reason to buy this after the demo and was not disappointed. Chapter 1 and 2 were a bit of a slog with a LOT of high school drama thrown in, but it's a summer camp and it sets the story decently. Getting past those first two hours was a bit rough for me but wow it was worth it. I am interested to see what the re-playability of the game is and may change my rating based on that (and multiplayer).

I did truly feel like my choices impacted the story and led to interesting outcomes, although this feeling may be a bit different as I replay a few times... Time will tell there. The graphics were done so well there were many times where you could barely discern the difference between a cut scene and gameplay if it weren't for changing camera angles. That being said, there were a number of times where facial expressions were cartoonish or just looked a bit off that became blatantly obvious when compared to the otherwise beautiful graphics. The last negative I have about this was the ease of some QTEs. I looked for a difficulty modifier but did not find one in the settings. A tweak like that would be a welcome one.

All in, this was a fun, engaging game that was only really hurt by the ease of some QTE mechanics, a couple of glitches and graphical issues, and a slow build in the beginning that did not appeal to me.

This is a really disappointing game as a huge fan of Super Massive and Until Dawn.
For context I've played through the game twice (everyone lives & everyone dies)
    - This is far less scary than their previous work - A far less interesting story, with no twists or turns - A lack of meaningful choice (chapters 1-9 are almost identical regardless of what you do) - You are funneled down

The Quarry is a gripping horror story where it's hard not to play one more chapter than you planned to. The tightly directed story has a nice pace due to alternation between tension and humor. The cast is strong and comes across very well because of the good voice acting. All together they are a believable group of teenagers in a dangerous situation.

Technically, it's not a perfect game.

Technically, it's not a perfect game. It is clear to see that not all the characters' movements are recorded in the mocap studio which breaks the immersion. This is also an issue for some really weird transitions between scenes. The choice of music and timing of shots are off sometimes.

Nevertheless, it is a cool experience due to the atmosphere, the characters, the well-designed danger (unnamed for spoilers) and the many options to influence the story.

    Pros:
    - Great and momorable cast
    - Voice acting
    - Atmosphere - Influence on story
    - Replayability

    Cons:
    - Character models
    - Character movements during gameplay
    - Transitions between scenes are off sometimes

I'm a big fan of interactive story-telling and FMV since Quantic Dream's Fahrenheit, especially in horror category. This game has multifaceted story, fantastic graphics and massive variability. Yes, its high priced, but this is the price for all its virtues.

Must have for all fans of the genre.

Created an account specifically to comment on how terrible this lefty, degenerate, **** interactive movie (not a game) is. These developers couldn't write a competent story or characters if it bit them in the arse.

There are two possibilities here. One, the development team is full of alpha widows that portray the jocks that pumped and dumped them in real life in a way that satisifies their bitterness of not being able to keep them around or two, this studio is full of cucked Communists that are doing everything in their power to emasculate and villanise white men like every single other person in the media is doing too. Terrible story, terrible plot, terrible monsters that look like they haven't even loaded into the game properly, creepy facial animations, social commentary, pandering to people that don't play these games, abysmal ending. The only reason I'm even making reference to anything beyond the propaganda piece that this trash is is so that the moderate wimps that think calling out said propaganda is nonsensical and bitter can actually have a position to defend that doesn't involve their offended emotions.

Another example of why video games in 2022 are a dead medium and need to be boycotted completely. I haven't even mentioned the terrible business practices that came from these amateur developers joining up with 2K so they really are the most scummy, degenerate, talentless game makers that exist in the industry today, and that's saying something when Rockstar and EA exist.

Not worth £6, let alone £60. These products need all of the shaming and boycotting that they deserve. And go watch Synthetic Man on YouTube if you want actual reviews and critiques of games that aren't afraid to reveal the truth.

Metacritic, learn how to format your mobile site because writing this review is giving me cancer. Amateur hour continues. The whole tech industry is "maintained" by complete hacks.

I’ve only just started but it seems fun. The graphics are really good although sometimes textures take a second to load in. Not terrible but I’m playing on Series X and it’s kind of a distraction when you notice it happening. Not terrible but I’m playing on Series X and it’s kind of a distraction when you notice it happening. Anyways aside from the good graphics but sometimes delays in loading, this is a fresh take on gaming - for me anyways. I’m kind of tired of FPS and I like how this is more of a choose your own ending book except a movie that you interact with. The reviews are accurate: the acting is really good. You know how I’m some games you can tell that the audio was recorded by the voice actors separately? In this game it sounds like they were all sat in a room together reading off of a script at the same time. Like in other games it really stands out when one character pronounces a certain word one way and then immediately following that the other character uses a different pronunciation. It just breaks the fourth wall when that happens. Or even with a single character, it sounds like they just read lines off a paper, got recorded, and then the game makers stitched together different lines of dialogue at different junctures in the game. I guess I’m thinking of Cyberpunk 2077 in particular when I say this but I’ve noticed it in other games too. I’m playing Deathloop currently and I think it happens there too. It just stands out when the way the character says something doesn’t really fit the vibe of what’s happening in-game. All that is to say that this game *doesn’t* do that and that it feels really flow-y and natural. Looking forward to the thrills to come and replaying for alternative outcomes.

A great video game! Maybe not the first to have this approach, sure. The game is like 90+ out of 100 in terms of technical polishing. I wish the characters could move faster. Holding L1/LB makes them go a *little* faster.

Anyways I only wrote this review to bump up the average so that more people would play it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Been a fan of Supermassive since Until Dawn, but it does feel like each iteration after Until Dawn has been a bit of a decrease in quality. Gameplay wise, you know what you're getting with this interactive movie kind of video games. So since gameplay is not all that different from everything that has come before, we're left with the story and the characters, which are the meat-and-potatoes for this genre, and its a mix bag.

Story wise, the pacing is great for the first half, but then there's a second and a third chapter that just fall off a cliff. It really did feel like the writers were running out of steam as the game progresses. There are characters arcs introduced that are never carried forward or concluded, mostly forgotten. There's one character who is introduced in prologue and basically becomes the main character when we pick up her story midway through, and at that point, the game bascially forgets the other camp counselors and really just focuses on her.

In terms of pacing, the first act, great, second and then third act, meh. Especially the ending, the ending is very anti-climatic. The grand finale climax is not really climax, it just happens and the game ends bascially saying "Such and such happened to so and so." This is deeply disatisying because you can't help but compare to 'Until Dawn,' and there, the finale climax we had all the characters introduced (and who survived), all in the same room, with a high stakes, very scary situation, and you felt tense. Here, we have a kind-ish quick time event and then end, with just three out of all the characters in a not-at-all tense scene, and I guess the writers are trying to make you sad. I don't know and the game doesn't really make it clear. Which is another problem.

In most of Supermassive games, yeah, we don't get all of the story, every single piece, but basic knowledge of what the rules of the world are, are given. Here, there is a ghost and it is never, ever properly dealt with, its just there and everyone accepts that this ghost is there and exists (even though this ghost mostly does nothing but whispers peoples' names). We have the main monsters, but then we have this element that is never properly introduced or dealt with, and it doesn't even affect the overall plot come to think of it.

Overall, the impression I get is that this is a game with a lot of ideas in it, but no one did a good job of editing those ideas. At the same time, the writers and game designers should've taken a vacation and recharged as it was obvious they were burned out by the end. So all in all, a great rough draft, but not a well-oiled machine humming on all cylinders.

First game ive enjoyed from company since until dawn. It nails the B movie horror vibe well and the characters move from annoying to charming as you play. I will say the gameplay is even more non exsistant than previous ones and you mostly lose characters to glitchy game mechanics that arent explained well.

Removed another point for no rewind feature which makes replaying a real chore

Polecam

The first play through and this game is great.
Although a bit linear it's got a great story and cut scenes...
However, the cut scenes are ridiculously long and you can't skip them (which is fine first time around). Their when you replay for alternative endings it gets really boring, like rally boring. They need to add an option to skip either on a second play through or chapter select. I

It's a B horror movie about camp counsellors getting killed but by what and why? These games fill a niche and I enjoy them, but hard to strongly recommend. Superb game in the Genre if you love teen B Movie Horror you will love this, its visually beautiful and the gameplay is fun and fluid and the characters have their own unique style, though it's not very scary but the story holds up for the time you play and it's a very relaxing game to chill out with on a Sunday and get immersed with. I shall definitely check out Until Dawn now!

The Quarry joins Until Dawn on the shelf of must-have terror/horror games. If you are a fan of the genre, this is the one you have to play at least once, since repeating it can become extremely boring, given that the story is told slowly and the interaction with the characters reveals little about the relationship between them. Even with some bugs, The Quarry offers a strong horror experience that can surprise even the strongest stomachs.
