Possibly Bethesda's best game. Time will tell if it has the legs that Skyrim did, but it has the potential. Right out of the gate you need to leave your expectation of a space sim at the door. It's not a space sim, it's an RPG, and a dang good one at that. The perks you choose matter and open up opportunities, there are multiple ways to complete quests, and an incredible amount of character customization and roleplay potential. For those of us who enjoy role-playing our games, very few studios make the sort of games that scratch that "itch." The outer worlds came close, but was too small in scope. Kingdom Come Deliverance was also amazing, but unfortunately you have a fixed character you have to play as. A lot of us prefer to make our own character, and for those of us that do, there's no better option than Bethesda. I'd love if another studio stepped up to the plate and tried to make the same kind of game, but they just don't and won't. So until that day comes, Bethesda makes the best experiences for us roleplay nerds.

The only criticism i have against the game is with performance on PC. Fortunately I play on XBOX where the experience is well optimized, but I've heard it's not the same with PC players unfortunately. Performance aside, it's a 10/10 for me. Massive, deep, repayable, and will keep us RPG fans busy for years to come.

30 fps trash of a space sim. Can't fly to other planets, game is riddled with bugs but not in a skyrim way more like a fallout 76 way. Ship battles that a toddler could handle. Its Skyrim in space. It has a slow start and It needs some polishing.
I don't understand all the bad ratings. Its a good game.
For the state its in now I give it 8/10 for now, but I give it 10 for all the 0 ratings.
Give it some time and It can really be a great game with the mod Community.
It has a little rough takeoff, but it has big potencial to have a perfect landing. (like No Man's Sky)

What a world. People want truth and they will lie to themselves and anyone else to get it, it seems. Their version at least. Anonimity, opinion, bullsh*t. Times change. But you can always trust yourself. A zero out of ten in video games is unjustified hate so I guess vice a versa , which is why maybe I don't rank this game 10, but so far it actually is.

Negatives out of the way first, because there genuinely aren't that many:
    - PC version lacks basic accessibility features, such as an FOV slider, DLSS, etc.
    - You will occasionally encounter identical proc. gen dungeons if you explore enough planets. - Enemy NPC's are still lacking in terms of programming. - The game starts a little slow but given that it's a brand-new IP/universe, I'm

    - You will occasionally encounter identical proc. gen dungeons if you explore enough planets.
    - Enemy NPC's are still lacking in terms of programming.
    - The game starts a little slow but given that it's a brand-new IP/universe, I'm fine with this.
    - There are more loading screens than there should be.

Having said all of that, this game's setting captures you and there are plenty of possibilities gameplay-wise to keep you occupied for hours. Character creation has improved significantly, additions such as traits and backgrounds go a long way in making your character feel unique and grounded in the setting (my character had parents, a house with a mortgage, and a background as a space trucker in the UC, for example).

The game is technically sound when compared to Bethesda's previous efforts, I only encountered three "bugs" in my forty-ish hours of gameplay. The writing has seen a notable step up in quality since Fallout 4. Dialogue options are expanded and the game's persuasion mini-game is well done, I wish other RPG's had a similar system. I also greatly appreciate Starfield's new and improved lockpicking mini-game. Gunplay in this game is also a considerable step up when compared to their previous titles, though the melee combat seems a bit drab in contrast. Starfield also features a solid weapon customization system and an even better ship customization system. You truly get to be who you want to be in this game's universe.

The game's scope is impressive, even if the end result has more loading screens than you'd like. The random encounters both in space and on land are often quite intriguing. Some were complaining about the planetary boundaries on the worlds after you land, but even though I've scanned and surveyed dozens of planets and moons, I've never bumped into these barriers (it's a non issue, in other words). The environments are varied, the fluctuations in gravity and weather make for fun gameplay, and the game's settlement building system can turn any of these worlds into your own homebase.

The sidequests are as eclectic and wacky as ever, the game's companions and crew members are great, and Starfield's soundtrack and world design holds up to the rest of Bethesda's back catalogue. It may not be the future of gaming, but we don't live in the future, and I personally believe that Starfield's positives far outweigh its negatives. It is a good Bethesda game, and that statement alone puts it on the same level as games like Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, and Fallout 4. If you enjoyed any of those games and are down for a sci-fi adventure, you will have a blast in Starfield. It's every bit as good as any of their previous titles. I'd personally give it an 8.5 out of 10, but I'm rounding up instead of down since it seems there's a lot of bad-faith review bombing going on here.

It's not a bad game, but it does have it problems with framerate and textures, and some very dull quests, also the npcs are quite wooden and look like potato's, and it's not as free as you would like as you hit alot of invisible barriers, you can't even circumnavigate a planet and to many loading screens. It's fun for a while

I’m going to address to playstation fans that are extremely pissed off the game is an xbox exclusive. I understand your frustration enormously. That said to give a 0 on metacritic will not change anything. It is not the fault of the game that this masterpiece is exclusive to Microsoft. It’s Bethesda’s leader fault. Write them emails, flood their mail inbox endlessly, go protest in front of their office, but do not come to put 0 here. You are not happy when xbox fanboy put 0 to God of War, The last of us etc So please do not act like them.

Let’s start with the negative. The biggest flaw in the game is not a flaw of the game in itself. It’s more the fact that the game is exclusive to Microsoft. Let me explain . The xbox controller is a real filth. It is too small, the back buttons ( the equivalent of r2 and l2 on the dualsense ) are too close. My two index fingers almost touch themselves. They are also too much forward and I have to bend my hand up a little to weigh at the bottom of the buttons to have the maximum sensations. The handles on both sides of the controller where you hold the controller are much too short. I feel like I hold a mini board in my hand rather than a controller. As a result, it’s extremely uncomfortable and destroys a lot of the fun. The other big problem is the total lack of feedback. The vibrations are okay for space combat but for ground combat, it’s awful. There is so little feedback that when I shoot with a gun, I feel like I am pressing down into the vacuum. Now, the lack of adaptive triggers makes this problem much worse. I thought it was just haptic feedback and adaptive trigger that made the ps5 controller incomparably superior. Finally it’s not just that it’s the entire design. So it makes the pleasure and the satisfaction of the fight much reduced and it’s a very big problem for me. It still not as bad as a mouse keyboard.

The other big problem is the 30 fps. Although it is more stable than other games ( when you put them in quality mode ) since it is optimized for 30, I miss the 60. Even if you had to release it six months later or invest a little more. It would have been worth it.

    Now the positive

    Graphics:

If we compare it to other games of its time, Starfield is their most beautiful game. We know that Bethesda never makes the most beautiful graphics but this one is the most up to date compared to other AAA. In some places, like rocks textures or robots, it feel next gen graphics. In other places it is more blurry and facial expressions are a bit dated but a gigantic improvement compared to fallout 4 and 76.

    Interaction with NPCs

As usual, Bethesda always pushes the boundaries on this side. We can start discussions with hundreds of NPCs. Ask them questions, inform ourselves, make fun of them, lie to them, threaten them, persuade them etc. They react accordingly and several NPCs will evolve their speech the more we advance in the plot. It’s nice to listen to what they in details. You can spend a whole night just talking loll Our companions will react to our decisions but also to some of our actions. Concerning the NPCs that cannot be engaged in a deep conversation, those who pass here and there the "appearing". Even they will have more to say than what we see in rpg's. Usually in games, passers-by will have 2 or 3 lines, hello how you feel etc But here I met severals who had 10 different lines.

    Rpg:

It’s nice to be able to customize the smallest details of your character’s face even if I haven’t seen any progress on this side. Choosing them a back round with a unique advantage is also a plus. We can modify our weapons in very details and the skill tree is extremely well made with a lot of skills divided into 5 categories and each skill has many levels. More than enough to find your favorite play style and upgrading it. We are free to engage in several companies and work for them, invest our money and build our own path etc

    Exploration

This is again ahead of it's time. You can enter all the buildings, explore hundreds of planet, pick up almost everything you find, sell, buy, build etc. No mans sky has more planets but almost 0 combat and interactions. Those 2 aspects are extremely limited in NMS.

Bethesda pushes the boundaries again with a world of richness and depth. Although the feeling of the fights, the almost total absence of gore are not on point, it remains much better than their previous game. Blood effects are less pixelated, sounds effects and shooting mechanics have been greatly improved since their last games and bugs are less present for a launch version.

I would have a lot more to say but I reached 5000 characters.

I was expecting Fallout/Skyrim in space and I feel like that is what I got. I love the gunplay and the space combat is fun. It's taken people about 15 years to discover that Bethesda doesn't know how to make RPGs or open world games. He already demonstrated it by destroying the Fallout saga with the third and fourth installments and even with Oblivion and Skyrim they did not know how to continue the bases of Morrowind and opted for a more action-focused approach for the general public.

There are also so many interactions with NPCs that aren't even quests, like the boy on Mars who says his mom is always sad and if you wait until night and the mom comes

The missions or quests are extremely cliche and lack depth or the X factor to get you intrigued. You don't feel "alive" in the world. The open world is there, but there is nothing special to it. The game also does a terrible job of introducing you to itself and its mechanics, instead of slowly being introduced to new mechanics as you learn the game, it is all made available to you to figure out for yourself. And the worst part of all of this is the tedious grind for everything. Everything is made even worse due to the hype and 'prestige' that surrounded this games excessive development and launch. It is true that you'll find a good number of barren wastelands with little to do other than extracting some resources and take off to more interesting places, but again it really depends on how you want to play. There's so much to do, so many systems and abilities to explore, missions to complete, spaceships to loot, and species to catalogue, that I honestly don't think there's anybody who thinks that exploring every square meter of this universe is the better way to enjoy Starfield.

While it has weak spots and doesn’t push many boundaries, Starfield is still an excellent RPG experience. Bethesda has once again mastered the things it built its reputation on – world building, quest design, and deep customization. However, it’s found new things to excel at too, with exciting combat and a novel implementation of New Game Plus.
