It may be a shooter, a platformer and a puzzler, but more importantly Squirrel with a Gun is absolutely nuts. Its shortcomings are more than made up for by the sheer amount of fun you’ll have playing as a squirrel, with a gun.

I enjoyed my time with this game, simple as that. It’s not too serious (see the name) and it provides a nice mix of combat, platforming, and puzzle solving. I particularly like how obtuse some puzzles may seem but once you know the answer they are quite simple. The sheer exploration and process of figuring out the solutions was enough to keep me intrigued for the adequate time this game lasts which is likely going to be less than 10 hours for finding everything. Fans of other popular animal physics based simulators should feel at home here. Don’t expect a AAA budget banger and enjoy the wackiness here that Squirrel With A Gun is offering.

Squirrel with a Gun is whimsical, chaotic, and has some funny moments. If you enjoy the silly gameplay you get from games like Goat Simulator or Untitled Goose Game, you will likely enjoy this for the few hours it takes to complete it. Retailing at under $20 CDN, for the number of hours and laughs I got from it seems like a fair price for this nutty experience.

The game has its virtues, as long as we forgive it for certain shortcomings that we have already mentioned. In the end, it offers a direct and fun experience, putting us in the shoes of a little squirrel who is not to blame for the situations he finds himself in.

When a game has a title like Squirrel with a Gun you probably know what you are in for. It is very silly and absurd. That is the game's selling point. It completely delivers on that front. It however doesn’t really deliver when it comes to playing the game. While it’s easy to come to terms with the wonky physics, subpar technical aspects and not much content to dig into, the controls are what makes the game a chore to play. Still there is certainly fun to be had just based on the incredible premise itself.
