Aug 11, 2025If you’re up for a fantastic yarn and gorgeous sights, Mafia: The Old Country is outstanding, meaning you’ll be totally sold by its presentation. The moments, the story and the characters are top-notch, and there’s not much to criticize on that front. However, The Old Country is old-fashioned with forced and bland stealth sections, predictable gunplay, and a lack of newness when it comes to the game’s mechanics—also the knife fights are unexciting and rote. You can have a blast with The Old Country if gameplay isn’t your utmost concern, but if it is, you may need to absolve it of its sins, because while the gunplay is functional and enjoyable enough, it lacks nuance and weapon variety. Altogether, The Old Country is definitely worth taking in, but when gameplay is king, you may feel underwhelmed that it spends more time focusing on its visual and storytelling qualities than it does on crafting a sophisticated playable experience.

Aug 27, 2025With Mafia: The Old Country, Hangar 13 is definitely on the right track. Hopefully we get more Mafia in the coming years – with just a little bit better thought mission design please.
-
Aug 17, 2025Shines with its story, atmosphere, and thorough research, but far too often feels empty and unfinished.
-
Aug 13, 2025Mafia continues to feel a tad dated in its design trappings, but there's a fascinating mix of beauty, efficiency and nuanced performances here that are well worth your time.

Aug 13, 2025Mafia: The Old Country’s story was good enough to keep me engaged to the end with its authentic portrayal of 1900s Sicily and its superb characters. It’s too bad, however, that while the narrative traveled backwards in time for its new setting, the gameplay mechanics went along with them.

Aug 13, 2025Mafia: The Old Country could be accused of being a game that plays it safe, due to its lack of risk taking and its well-worn theme. However, we can forgive this new instalment for its classicism and a hero with the charisma of lawn clippings as an authentic charm exudes from it; a true love letter from its developers to the iconic gangster story genre. Ultimately, for less than 50 €, it offers a good time, and isn’t that all we could ask for?
