Even though I enjoyed the actual racing and especially the story campaign in Lego 2K Drive, but for me a player who loves to play online this game gives me pause. I don’t get a lot of time to spend on games between reviewing them, my kids and just life overall. So, sitting down to play and seeing my opponents all have super tricked out rides; I just know I am in for a loss. I don’t have an issue with microtransactions in games, but I do have an issue when players can just purchase power making it unfair for those who can’t or just won’t. If you plan on strictly playing Lego 2K Drive single player, there is a lot to enjoy here…. Even with the wonky drifting system.

I rarely had a dull moment in the open world, which is brilliantly designed right down to the smallest 1x1 Lego piece. The activities are varied and thanks to the precise controls, exploring every nook and cranny of Bricklandia is a pure joy. On the other hand, the actual races was a disappointing affair, which more than anything else made me long for the almost 25-year-old Lego Racers.

Within the myriad of LEGO racing games, LEGO 2K Drive does just about enough to carve an identity for itself. All the LEGO hallmarks are here with destruction, creativity and humour front and centre of most of what goes on.

LEGO 2K Drive fulfills its specifications with a fun and accessible game, without managing to shine in its genre.

LEGO 2K Drive is at its best when it focuses on the last word of its title - driving around and taking part in wild and wacky side missions as you run into them is the best way to tackle this open world racer. The actual racing lets it down a touch, and we think the game is a bit pricey for its presentation levels, but this is still a fun and varied affair for all the family. If you're itching for a bonkers LEGO-themed take on Forza Horizon this pretty much nails it, just don't expect the same levels of AAA sheen as you'd get from the Xbox exclusive series.

A solid first lap for a racer that might need a bit more time to hit top speed, LEGO 2K Drive is still worth playing whether you’re young, old or somewhere in between.

A gleefully colourful and typically humorous LEGO game, LEGO 2K Drive is an enjoyable open world racer that unfortunately offers an uneven challenge and a Story Mode that can be something of a grind. And yet, throwing a LEGO vehicle around Bricklandia is good, clean fun. Swings and roundabouts.

LEGO 2K Drive feels like a modern spiritual successor to the 1999's Lego Racers that borrows several beats from powerhouse racing franchises like Forza Horizon and The Crew 2. However, unoriginal quests and shallow microtransactions prevent the experience from being special.

LEGO 2K Drive has a satisfying campaign, with rich exploration and good gameplay. This review was based on the game's performance on Xbox Series X and throughout the eight or so hours of gameplay, I didn't notice any bugs or performance drops, even on the heavier maps. The game's biggest flaw is getting hung up on microtransactions that are too easily accessible, especially considering that the game is aimed at a children's audience. Other than this issue, which cannot be ignored, I had a lot of fun with the gameplay and exploration. The customization of the cars is heaven for long-time fans of the franchise. A pity that character customization is not included in the game as well.

Is Lego 2K Drive something you can make your kids happy with? Yes, absolutely. And what about the adults? Well, if you look beneath the surface, you'll notice that not everything is perfect. In some situations, the controls could be a bit more sensitive, the power-ups could have more impact, and the rubberbanding is a bit too noticeable.

If you steer clear of the shop and online modes, there’s so much to enjoy in Lego 2K Drive. The colorful story mode alone is worth the price of admission, creating a version of Forza Horizon that’s much more welcoming to younger audiences and casual racing fans. It makes me feel like a kid again, playing with Legos in my bedroom. But every time I exit back to the main menu and see the shop, I snap back to being a world-weary adult who can’t help but be critical of unsettling business practices.

LEGO 2K Drive is an ideal game for the little ones in the house, but it doesn't reach the level of other titles in the franchise.

Lego 2K Drive is not necessarily a bad game. It's just so unengaging that it starts to feel somewhat pointless. There's nothing you haven't seen before and done better in other games. The driving itself can be fun, but it's overshadowed by the dull and repetitive content.

Lego 2K Drive is, at best, a competent arcade racing game let down by its difficulty and microtransactions.

It's creative, but it's also a bit of a mess. Lego 2K Drive mixes Forza Horizon and Mario Kart together, but it's not as good as either of them, and doesn't bring much new to the table either. There are building blocks here for Lego to use for future IP-less games, but this doesn't quite put them all together in a way that will interest anyone who isn’t still in primary school.

It’s really a shame that such a lovely and fun open-world sandbox is tied to stuff like a season pass, premium currencies, and expensive in-game purchases. Perhaps 2K will tweak some levers to make it easier to earn and unlock new cars—which would be nice—but until then the specter of greed will always be there, nagging at me as I build, smash, and race.

Beautiful, lively and intense, Lego 2K Drive is as pleasant to watch as it is to handle. Based on classic karting game mechanics (turbo drifts, objects to throw, etc.), it does not forget to add its own touch by offering some well thought out subtleties. First of all, the story mode (the adventure’s core) has nothing to be shy of in terms of activities compared to Forza Horizon games and it can be played by two people simultaneously. However, it must be noted that the monetisation aspect is rather invasive with its integrated purchases and a season pass. We can only hope that this optional paid content will be used to finance additions to the title and that the support will be long-lasting, because the basic material is excellent.

Lego 2K Drive is a fun Arcade Racer with an excellent in-game Lego building experience.

But after beating the short story, your supposed to spend your in-game currency in Unkie's microtransaction shop. Your invested ten hours are worth one or two cars.... But you could also get new parts or minifigs... Obviously, 2K wants you to spend your real world money, to buy all this stuff. Wait a minute, didn't I pay full price for the game allready?
Isn't the game made for kids? And might this be the reason, why we can not share our own awesome Lego creations with other players?
