I simply found this to be a boring game designed around a character that I could not relate to in any way. In fact the characters and writing in general just seemed to be too far removed from reality to really get into, which is a bad thing as the game seems to be entirely centered around it's story and character development in what is supposed to be a humble and realistic setting. In fact I think the lack of any real genuine humble mountain town feel is what works against it the most. It's just kind of a ridiculous story with ridiculous characters, but in the most boring way possible. Expand

It's ok and only fun for a short time.
I tried the demo and it was very tough. You deliver packages and just talk.
The driving physics could be improved.
Overall, too expensive for the content.

I’ll give kudos that this isn’t another story game about someone’s sexual orientation (which I’ve never found that interesting), but the problem I have with it is it isn’t really about anything. It’s a playable story that’s just general life. It could be your life. Things happen, you talk to people and you make some decisions, but there’s no revelation to be built to. Other than that, the game looks nice, delivering mail is ok. I’m just not sure what the point was. My only other complaint was some of the dialogue options aren’t clear what your deciding on. Nor can you see your calendar when you make them to know if you agree to do x it means you can no longer do y. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lake is a charming, relaxing story and character driven postal simulator set in a small town in the 1980s. It's not a complex game, very simple as to how it works, but that doesn;t make it a bad thing. The mail posting breaks up the story over two in game weeks where you reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. It has the usual choice making when it comes to dialogue, which can reflect on the relationships you make. The visuals are beautiful and the music that you hear is very nice. The voice acting isn;t too bad either, though on one character, you can tell it's a younger person putting on a voice of an elderly person, but it's not bad, just obvious. The characters are all well made, noone really annoying except for maybe one person, but that's due to the type of character and how they present themselves.

The only complaints I have with the game is that I wish the devs allowed dialogue skipping, as to get 100% acheivements, you have to play through the cutscene on the last day three times and it lasts around 25-30 minutes and gets a bit tedious, choosing the "I have to go" options doesn;t really end that conversation and it still does as it is scripted. And I wish it was a little more expansive. There are a few roads you never go down ever, which is a shame.

All in all, for a very nice game for those who enjoy playing story driven games with no combat, I highly recommend this game. The price for what it is may be a bit much, but it is now on Game Pass, which is a bonus.

Lake is a peaceful and simple game. Just ride, deliver and meet the people in the area. It is actually quite relaxing after a busy day. I was suprised how many actual choices the player gets during the story to set it to your hand.

At the same time the game tests your patients due to a lot of dialogue that feel to long (not skippable) and a slow walking main character. Pros: - Simplicity

    - Slow walking character
    - Facial animations are non-existing while it feels important in this kind of story
    - Story felt a bit to long

Over the course of about 7 to 8 hours i got to know the residents of this town and found most of them to be quite likeable and i enjoyed my interactions with them.

The voice acting was good so was the music that you listen to on the radio of your mail van theres a limited selection of songs though so they do end up repeating but i liked the songs so it wasn't much of a problem for me and i quite liked the visuals of the game as well i thought they suited the game well.

When it comes to the gameplay you begin a day by getting in your van and then you spend your time delivering parcels and letters some people you deliver to will talk to Meredith and during your conversation with them you can make dialogue choices, other people you deliver to though won't be in so you end up just leaving their parcel on their doorstep, When you deliver letters though most of the time you just put the letter in their mailbox and leave.

I found the gameplay loop to be enjoyable and relaxing i did however expericence some issues with the game such as characters temporarily disappearing in some of the cutscenes some environmental pop in and one time i got into the mail van and was suddenly transported to a character quite some distance away and after talking to them in a cutscene i was left at their location with no van fortunately there is a fast travel option on the games map so i used that to get back to my post van.

The other issues i experienced though were the autosave not working since day 2 and a bug where i had delivered to everyone except one person called Jack Reynolds on day 13 so i went to him on his farm to deliver a letter when i approached the mailbox a cutscene occured and Meredith and Jack end up talking to each other after he greeted her however the characters stopped talking and nothing happened so i exited the game and loaded it up again to discover the game hadn't autosaved since day 2 i did however have a manual save from day 10 so i loaded that up and had to play through days 10, 11, 12 and nearly all of 13 to get back to where i was.

Once i got back to day 13 i did all the deliveries again and visited jack last again but the cutscene bug still happend fortunately i made a manual save just before speaking to him so i exited the game and tried again but i still didn't work i tried a few times and even unistalled the game and reinstalled it to see if that would fix the problem but it didn't unfortunately.

What i ended up doing was reloading a manual save i made near the beginning of day 13 where i still
had most of the deliveries to do and i ended up delivering to him first and doing that fixed the problem and the cutscene played and had no issues and i was able to complete the delivery and do all the other ones and finish up day 13 and go on to day 14 and finish the game.

I have let the developers know about these issues and hopefully they will be resolved soon if you do play the game now though i'd recommend making manual saves often or at least at the start of every day so you can reload to an earlier save and try again if you encounter any issues like i did.

Despite these issues however i quite enjoyed my time with the game and had fun with it while it lasted i wanted a game that i could kick back and relax with and that felt like i was going on vacation somewhere nice and the game delivered on that.

If your into these kind of games then i'd say it's worth a try or maybe wait until it has been patched and then try it.

Video games originated as leisurely activities but as time goes by they're becoming more time-consuming and attention-demanding, so Lake is a nice break from the usual grind fest with picturesque scenary, a nuanced romance albeit with surface level characterisations and a nice but very limited and repetitive soundtrack playlist.

If you're stressed out whether from work, life or just some other video game, Lake is the perfect getaway that you can pause or pick up whenever you want.

The gameplay is very simple, you drive around a small town delivering mail and parcels whilst occasionally having conversations with the recipients and getting to know them. Personally I prefer it much more than that other overhyped courier simulator.

It is a game about a small town by the lake and its very characteristic characters. The weak points for me were the driving, sometimes a bit awkward, and the music selection being not very varied (funny, because in one of the lines of dialogue, the main character criticizes this too, ahah, that was bit meta). But within what it sets out to do, it was a fun and at times exciting and touching experience, and as I said, very, very relaxing. Perfect game to escape the frenzy of other big games with big boss fights, etc. I will want to play more games from this studio. Expand

Played this game on gamepass, so it was worth an attempt, not sure how much I would of paid for this though probably only a few dollars if that. The game itself is very straightforward, you deliver the mail and you talk to the people who live there.

    - although the music is limited I do like the songs in the game
-voice acting is passible and there are some funny lines
-some areas like around the lake are definitely nice to look at the nature

    cons
-game feels very lifeless and boring as there's no random dialogue or scenes, like everything is scripted.
    - I get that this is a low budget game, but the graphics remind me of something from several years ago, the characters show no emotion at all.
    - Story is very predictable and there's really no plot twists or surprises
-Some of the dialogue is boring, and some of the dialogue choices really don't represent what you think it means.
-Sometimes it feels like when you play the game that it's going to just like fall apart and stop working. Kinda hard to describe but basically it feels outdated

It's an okay game to play maybe after a long game. Overall, 5/10 game.

Highly relaxing, sometimes too much perhaps, Lake offers an escape of a few hours that is not refused when one seeks a purely restful narrative experience. The interactive story shaped by Gamious also benefits from a great deal of authenticity and choice of dialogues that allow the player to feel truly engaged. Too bad the adventure is based on a pattern that does not evolve enough, a too languid pace and a scenario that fails to touch us fully.
