Another banger from Tango Gameworks. This is the studios first FPS game and Openworld game. And, while not perfect, it absolutely rocks and is a fantastic addition to Xbox GamePass. Granted, there aren’t many characters as the whole premise is an entire city has been taken over by a ghostly force. And it’s our job to reclaim what’s been lost. This is done by exploring the richly packed streets, buildings, and back alleys for spirits, collectibles, and even animals(that were saved from the enemy invasion). Completing quests and side quests for extra exp, gear, and abilities. Graphics are pretty great. Kudos to the team responsible for the environment as you RARELY encounter areas that look identical to others. Granted, you’ll see many stalls, locked apartment buildings, and vehicles that look similar to one another but it never once becomes jarring. Combat is strategic enough but can often feel clunky at first. Took me atleast an hour to really get a feel for it. The spells you cast are flashy and animations are a marvel to look at. I won’t say too much about that. It’s honestly best to experience that yourself. This game is a blast. 9/10 Expand

Played it on ps5 and the truth is this how the original game was supposed to be released! It is vastly superior to the original and if they released it this way it would have sold many more copies . This game is really amazing now . Amazing setting and the ghostly setting and Japan looks simply awesome . You can get it for free on game pass so don’t let this opportunity pass you by!

Now that ghostwire: tokyo is back home where it belongs I've been able to sink my teeth into and really get a feel of tango game works Horror based rpg. And after 13hours I must say I'm loving every bit of it, though it's not without issues. First the open world aspect of this game isn't like most the whole isn't unlocked to just take off exploring in any direction and see what you'd discover, the map is locked in a toxic-like fog that you can clear and open up different sections of map by "cleansing" the shrines in that section/radius. To me at first this was a major downside but a plus is the map is also very vertical so traversing rooftop to rooftop and skyscraper to skyscraper is a challenge in itself and one u must do in order to find collectibles and other hidden items around the map. Last fault I have with the game is the repetitive nature of cleansing shrines, Rescuing spirits, finding collectibles, and even some the side missions are the same concepts but in completed different ways. Some positives though are the different ways to engage in combat from your ethereal powers to talismans, to "wiring" and even a simple bow and arrow. Along with the different types of enemies you will face throughout the game! Expand

I wasn't expecting to have as much fun as I had with it. Definitely surprised me in a positive way.

For starters, the thing that I loved the most was the setting. If the game were just purely exploring and photographing the amazing attention to detail put into Shibuya I'd still play the **** out of this. The city feels great (although dead, literally) to travel through, find collectibles and complete quests. It also looks beautiful as hell. I don't know how accurate this depiction of Tokyo is to the real one, but it felt solid enough to me.

The way they incorporated Japanese folklore and horror stories into the whole experience was amazing as well. I'm a sucker for those tales and seeing them as they are in the game was fascinating. The entire conundrum of the experience revolves around those myths in fact. It just enriches how well put together it all is. Enemy design helps a lot, too. Unfortunately, variety is scarce and their placement ends up being a bit overused.

And that leads me to the story. While the writing is just ok, I found Ghostwire's plot to be really touching and often creepy. It deals with death and closure in a sensible way, with its build up to certain events paving the way for a solid character development. It's good, not great, but packs a good punch. The ending is bittersweet, leaving me with Fatal Frame vibes.

Sidequests were also a highlight! They were all very interesting, with cool little short horror stories, filled with new mysteries and engaging/fun narratives. Try not to skip out on them.

So what prevents Ghostwire from being a better game? To be honest, its major flaw is the combat. At first, I found it quite original, but then I saw through the cracks. It is stiff and repetitive, packing some very clunky aiming and uncomfortable shooting that lacks impact, sense of proggression and, well, fun factor. Stealth is barely useful as well. Not to mention that some enemies were VERY annoying to fight. And you do fight A LOT! It is a huge bummer.

Some other things started to get stale around the final couple of chapters. Like, I love the city and its sidequests, but I don't really enjoy its 'collectathon' aspects. It brings nothing new to the campaign and it's always the same things. Acquiring spirits got old really fast, bosses were boring, enemies are overused, some story questions are left unanswered and I **** hate having to find hidden statues and pray for them to give me, like, ONE extra ammo.

Ghostwire Tokyo was a surprise. A good one. Its traditional Japanese horror roots really got to me and this "free" trip to Shibuya definitely won't leave my head so soon.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is a controversial game. On the one hand, this is one of the best examples of the implementation of the virtual Tokyo game world, which is just nice to walk and study the world. And somewhere else there is a plot for 5 hours, which almost does not move and consists in fact of a plot and climax. The opinion about Ghostwire: Tokyo consists exactly what the player expects from the game. The plot and development of the characters - pass by, open world - if you are satisfied with the Ubisoft approach, then yes. But if you want to touch Japanese culture, it's a great game. Excellent scenery, use of Japanese culture, good secondary quests. Everyone chooses their own in the game. But technically, the game looks bad on Xbox, another project from Microsoft that is poorly optimized. Expand

Big plus for enemy variations. As you progress, new spooks pops up all the time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Solid game open world game and cool first-person magic abilities. Not usually a horror fan, but this felt like this was light on the horror stuff. For the most part, this game has a lot of the typical open world troupes, with a map full of stuff to do, and areas to unlock. The level progression feels good, gaining strength and power with every advancement. The one scary part of the game for me was when ,for story reasons, you were temporarily stripped of your abilities, so you have to navigate a portion of the map in an extremely vulnerable state. Freaked me out because prior to that point I had gotten SO used to the combat where I kind of felt like a badass.

Having not completed the game yet, I'm giving this a solid 8. This falls in the good not great category for me.

Fans of The Evil Within need to give this game a shot since it has ideas taken from that game at times. If you’ve ever played Breakdown for the original Xbox (it’s a classic on the Xbox store also), Ghostwire Tokyo has that level of immersion in it, but it focuses more on projectile combat rather than melee combat. If you haven’t tried out this game yet, you need to. Everyone should experience this game since it feels fresh and it’s got quite an addicting style of combat. Support unique games such as this, so we get more!

While there’s an intriguing story that unfolds at a decent pace, it’s easy to get sidetracked with the overwhelming amount of optional things to do. While the story is about the right length, I eventually gave up trying to do everything as combat become a bit repetitive a few hours in. That said, Ghostwire: Tokyo was still a great playthrough and I’m glad it’s arrived for Xbox players to now enjoy as well.

Anyone who played and enjoyed Ghostwire: Tokyo the first time, and has Xbox Game Pass, will certainly want to make another run at it and check out the improvements and new content. For those who missed it at release, it’s maybe even easier to recommend Ghostwire: Tokyo now. Be warned that the first few hours ramp up fairly slowly and the supernatural combat is both creative and a little unpolished. Still, the narrative, world-building, lore, and unique approach to the first-person action game help make Ghostwire: Tokyo both successful and a bit different.
