Ghostwire: Tokyo is an intriguing gameplay experience, one that is marred by simplistic combat and repetitive mechanics.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is an atmospheric and somewhat ambitious game, with a vertical semi-open world gameplay arena dotted with ghoulish nasties and side-quests steeped in folklore, atop a supernatural thriller plot. The game's combat is sluggish initially, but it becomes increasingly satisfying as you unlock more powers. Weaving elemental magic sprinkled with some stealth elements for good measure. Sadly, everything new and fresh Ghostwire: Tokyo brings to the table is hamstrung by the game's awful performance on Xbox, which makes the game a true slog.

This is the studios first FPS game and Openworld game. And, while not perfect, it absolutely rocks and is a fantastic addition to Xbox GamePass. The story and it’s characters are interesting and memorable. As is standard for the studio. Granted, there aren’t many characters as the whole premise is an entire city has been taken over by a ghostly force. And it’s our job to reclaim what’s been lost. This is done by exploring the richly packed streets, buildings, and back alleys for spirits, collectibles, and even animals(that were saved from the enemy invasion). Completing quests and side quests for extra exp, gear, and abilities. Graphics are pretty great. Kudos to the team responsible for the environment as you RARELY encounter areas that look identical to others. Granted, you’ll see many stalls, locked apartment buildings, and vehicles that look similar to one another but it never once becomes jarring. Combat is strategic enough but can often feel clunky at first. Took me atleast an hour to really get a feel for it. The spells you cast are flashy and animations are a marvel to look at. I won’t say too much about that. It’s honestly best to experience that yourself. This game is a blast. 9/10 Full Review »

The game has performance issues and gameplay at points can be very unstable. Ghostwire shines in story-telling, gameplay was decent but nothing to be astonished by, and the characters were likeable. Main story was quite short and finished within one play session of the game. I feel that this game being open-world takes away from it with how empty the environment actually is. Regardless, it is a decent game from Tango Softworks but it is far from something i'd spend a whole lot of time on. Full Review »
