I feel that this game being open-world takes away from it with how empty the environment actually is. Regardless, it is a decent game from Tango Softworks but it is far from something i'd spend a whole lot of time on. Expand

I wasn't expecting to have as much fun as I had with it. Definitely surprised me in a positive way.

For starters, the thing that I loved the most was the setting. If the game were just purely exploring and photographing the amazing attention to detail put into Shibuya I'd still play the **** out of this. The city feels great (although dead, literally) to travel through, find collectibles and complete quests. It also looks beautiful as hell. I don't know how accurate this depiction of Tokyo is to the real one, but it felt solid enough to me.

The way they incorporated Japanese folklore and horror stories into the whole experience was amazing as well. I'm a sucker for those tales and seeing them as they are in the game was fascinating. The entire conundrum of the experience revolves around those myths in fact. It just enriches how well put together it all is. Enemy design helps a lot, too. Unfortunately, variety is scarce and their placement ends up being a bit overused.

And that leads me to the story. While the writing is just ok, I found Ghostwire's plot to be really touching and often creepy. It deals with death and closure in a sensible way, with its build up to certain events paving the way for a solid character development. It's good, not great, but packs a good punch. The ending is bittersweet, leaving me with Fatal Frame vibes.

Sidequests were also a highlight! They were all very interesting, with cool little short horror stories, filled with new mysteries and engaging/fun narratives. Try not to skip out on them.

So what prevents Ghostwire from being a better game? To be honest, its major flaw is the combat. At first, I found it quite original, but then I saw through the cracks. It is stiff and repetitive, packing some very clunky aiming and uncomfortable shooting that lacks impact, sense of proggression and, well, fun factor. Stealth is barely useful as well. Not to mention that some enemies were VERY annoying to fight. And you do fight A LOT! It is a huge bummer.

Some other things started to get stale around the final couple of chapters. Like, I love the city and its sidequests, but I don't really enjoy its 'collectathon' aspects. It brings nothing new to the campaign and it's always the same things. Acquiring spirits got old really fast, bosses were boring, enemies are overused, some story questions are left unanswered and I **** hate having to find hidden statues and pray for them to give me, like, ONE extra ammo.

Ghostwire Tokyo was a surprise. A good one. Its traditional Japanese horror roots really got to me and this "free" trip to Shibuya definitely won't leave my head so soon.

This game really gives me the vibes like "Control" by Remedy. The very same mystique atmosphere of spirits, ghosts and eerie levels.
This one is in first person though. Graphics are nice and dandy, combat is somewhat satisfying.
The controls are very confusing and hard to really plot in. I often find myselg struggling to find out #How do i switch weapons again?" The amount of control

Big plus for enemy variations. As you progress, new spooks pops up all the time.
Control was something special actually, but i dont think Ghostwire can match that.
    Still a good game.

It's a boring Fry Cry game. It's spooky at the beginning, but later on when you figure out that enemies are not much of the threat and dying is not that big of a deal it's just slow combat and boring quests.

After numerous hours of playing this game, I can confidently say that it's a game that's worth to try and finish.

First thing I can say is that is the main thing I like is what you do, it tackles ghosts that are unique to us but common in Japan where it covers the folklore of the spirit world and how to beat it (although that remains a skeptical solution). However, with it's Gameplay

First thing I can say is that is the main thing I like is what you do, it tackles ghosts that are unique to us but common in Japan where it covers the folklore of the spirit world and how to beat it (although that remains a skeptical solution). However, with it's Gameplay mechanics which is somewhat interesting in the first hour will get a little boring and limited where you will use the tried and tested methods to eliminate the ghosts. And although it covers ghosts which is equivalent to horror, you'll get used to it after seeing every kinds of dark spirits that trust to kill you.

Though the story has an interesting plot, the low point for me is that the main character is started as an unruly emotionally disturbed dude that slowly becomes that of a submissive hero that listens to the master for a certain point where the mcguffin is close and screws up the whole adventure, a typical trope that we've seen day and date then. Some of the saving grace for me is the side missions where it can get scary the first time and had a bit of a jump scare.

The recent update which adds a new gameplay mode, it is just a tower game mode whether how high can you survive. Not a big update but it's not enough in terms of content as this game can be finished within a week and the other is simply a padding but added some new lores.

Overall, it's a new game experience for me and I highly recommend to try it and will hope to see sequels that explores other kinds of folklore.

And lastly, to whomever that said to recommend the PS5 version just because it performs better than the Xbox, just remember, you don't have to spend full price if you have game pass, and it plays better on PC.

Fans of The Evil Within need to give this game a shot since it has ideas taken from that game at times. If you’ve ever played Breakdown for the original Xbox (it’s a classic on the Xbox store also), Ghostwire Tokyo has that level of immersion in it, but it focuses more on projectile combat rather than melee combat. If you haven’t tried out this game yet, you need to. Everyone should experience this game since it feels fresh and it’s got quite an addicting style of combat. Support unique games such as this, so we get more!

While there’s an intriguing story that unfolds at a decent pace, it’s easy to get sidetracked with the overwhelming amount of optional things to do. While the story is about the right length, I eventually gave up trying to do everything as combat become a bit repetitive a few hours in. That said, Ghostwire: Tokyo was still a great playthrough and I’m glad it’s arrived for Xbox players to now enjoy as well.

Anyone who played and enjoyed Ghostwire: Tokyo the first time, and has Xbox Game Pass, will certainly want to make another run at it and check out the improvements and new content. For those who missed it at release, it’s maybe even easier to recommend Ghostwire: Tokyo now. Be warned that the first few hours ramp up fairly slowly and the supernatural combat is both creative and a little unpolished. Still, the narrative, world-building, lore, and unique approach to the first-person action game help make Ghostwire: Tokyo both successful and a bit different.
