Ghost Song is a game worthy of your attention. An experience that is as sad as it is lonely, as its world peels back its layers, exposing its truth to you.

Ghost Song is a beautiful experience thanks to its environments and eerie ambience. There are some rough edges, but it's still a metroidvania that is worth a try, even in a market so filled with this kind of games.

Ghost Song was supposed to fill the void left behind by Nintendo and Konami by not making a new 2D Metroid or Castlevania. Eight years later it's an old school metroidvania that surprises with beautiful and daunting visuals and dialogue.

Ghost Song looks like the road that Samus Aran has not taken. This “2D Exploration Action Game” is the post-Metroid way that Metroid itself abandoned for the sake of being a modern Metroidvania. A curious yet fascinating case of a game.

Ghost Song left a slight bitterness in our mouth when we consider its remarkable potential. The story conquers, the maps and in general the level design of the game are well built, while the variety of the clashes and the role-playing component work (initially) very well. Unfortunately, the average difficulty does not grow with the passing of the hours and on the contrary turns downwards, thanks to some devastating power ups and a general repetition of the enemies. Despite these critical issues, Ghost Song has amused and fascinated us, which is why we still recommend you try it, especially if you are an Xbox Game Pass subscriber.

Had potential but too many flaws. Bosses are way too hard. Not enough save points. When you die frequently you have to walk all the way backHad potential but too many flaws. Bosses are way too hard. Not enough save points. When you die frequently you have to walk all the way back from the save point across many paths just to continue, incredible waste of time. Map is not detailed, can barely see doorways. Full Review »

I thought this was garbage for the first hour or two, and trying too hard to be Dark Souls without understanding artificial vs goodI thought this was garbage for the first hour or two, and trying too hard to be Dark Souls without understanding artificial vs good difficulty, but it turned out to be a pretty decent Metroid game in the end. It's fairly short and simple, but that's not necessarily bad. There are a handful of NPC questlines involving speaking to people at certain intervals and places similar to Dark Souls. The boss fights are ok, but the lack of variety in enemies really hurts the gameplay. Most of the creatures you face are very similar. Some people might find the game to end abruptly, but I'm actually quite fond of not dragging out a game ending with bloated bossfights and cutscenes. This is a pretty strong effort, and would like to see the developer make another attempt with more resources. Full Review »
