Bringing Funko's lines to the big screen on a large scale (the toys had already had some previous forays into the world of video games) I think is a success for the brand and Funko Fusion is a very fun game that could be the first step towards creating a very interesting franchise, although it still has some work to do, as the first installments of LEGO titles did until they refined the formula.

Funko Fusion is a simple game, perhaps overly so, following the footsteps of Travellers’ Tales’ iconic LEGO games but with the Funko figurines instead of the brick characters. The IP crossover aspect is sound, and the game is very accessible, but excessive repetition and a baffling lack of any form of co-op at launch, with online co-op but no local co-op coming down the line, surely severely crippling its value in the eyes of much of the target audience. Once co-op is finally added, as long as the online one fits the bill for you, I’d still recommend playing through the storyline at least once, at least to the people who are craving for a new LEGO-style adventure and are looking for a new twist or two on the formula.

Funko Fusion is a whacky and amusing 3D adventure title. Like LEGO, this game demands that you explore small arenas while controlling your favourite protagonist. However, unlike LEGO, it lacks polish. Accordingly, some glitches and bugs hold it back. Once these issues are ironed out, this will be a great, albeit repetitive experience.

Funko Fusion is a fun and nostalgic game that will appeal to fans of Funko Pop figurines and the franchises it represents. While it has its share of technical issues and repetitive gameplay, the colorful worlds, charming character designs, and humor make it an enjoyable experience. With the upcoming online play feature and regular updates, Funko Fusion has the potential to become even more engaging and entertaining in the future. The game’s ability to bring together different franchises into a single, cohesive universe is a testament to its creativity and charm. Whether you’re a fan of Scott Pilgram, Masters of the Universe, or any of the other franchises featured in the game, Funko Fusion offers a delightful and nostalgic journey that is sure to entertain and captivate players.

Funko Fusion is a first approach of the popular franchise of figures to video games that falls a little halfway in everything. Playably it works, but the repetitiveness of its missions in each and every one of the worlds causes us to think about quitting the game, despite the number of franchises it pays homage to.

Funko Fusion ends up being a pop culture-fest that’s overly difficult and a bit of a mess. The technical issues are worrisome, but the fact that the gameplay is geared up for a co-op setup not yet available is a real head-scratcher. Nevertheless, when it works, the puzzles are smartly implemented and the worlds are very well-created. There’s a generous amount of replayability too, which is enticing for completionists.

Considering the starting subject, Funko Fusion can also be considered a clever adaptation of the brand to a form of video game, unfortunately the execution of the gameplay leaves much to be desired: the idea of different worlds is interesting, but the third-person shooter is bland, confusing, imprecise and uninteresting.

A promising title that lets itself down over and over again.

In spite of its knowing fan service and array of plastic characters, Funko Fusion is hamstrung by a smattering of technical issues, repetitive gameplay, and poor boss battles. Sadly, nostalgia and fan service alone just isn’t enough.

With more attention to balancing and better, earlier explanations of how its puzzles, boss encounters, and items behave, I could see Funko Fusion eventually being the enjoyable, adult-oriented Lego alternative it wants to be. It needs some important fixes, but they don't seem like unattainable goals in this era of living games that are constantly evolving. The eventual widespread co-op functionality should hopefully make the game better all on its own, and if more helpful visual language and tooltips arrive soon, too, the game could be redeemed. Until then, however, this is one Funko product not worth displaying on your shelf.

With more time in the oven and especially co-op, this could have climbed several ratings, but at the moment it's hard to recommend this to anything but die hard fans of Funko Pop. But even for them, the question is whether it is not better to spend the money on some more plastic figures for the collection instead.

Funko Fusion is full of good ideas, but it struggles to fully convince despite all its potential. The charm of its well-modelled Pop figurines and colourful worlds is not enough to compensate for its repetitive gameplay, lack of honing and numerous glitches that jeopardise immersion. It truly is a shame, because with some more polished development, it could have rivalled the best. So it is best reserved for miniature enthusiasts, and preferably at a low price.
