Although a great game for its genre, I found that it was only fun if I had someone to play with, after 30 hours I have not felt the urge to pick up the game again. This feels like another open world racer that I'll just be forgotten by the time the next 'big' game drops.

This game is really pretty and really fun. Those who like cars and racing games will love this. I enjoyed my time with it, but after a couple hours I got a bit bored. I've never really been into racing games but I decided to give this a try. I'm not disappointed in the game, it is really high quality, but I personally didn't have that much fun with it after a couple hours of playing.

After already 30hours I feel a lack of motivation I never had before in any Forza game. Because everything feels a lot like FH4.
And then they are things which are unacceptable like no ranked online racing ??! I get that not everyone likes ranked racing, but give me at least the possibility!!! Even if I don’t gain a single credit, I would pass my time in ranked lobbies. Also, the Music playlists are mediocre, so either you offer a Spotify integration or make good radios like GTA Online.
From a technical point of view a Great game, from an FH4 Veteran's point of view a Complete disappointment. And just for notice, I'm not a bad Forza player or anything like that I'm actually really fast, being in the top 1000 in every rival's Circuit with my best placement at 12th on Cathedral in S2 998.

I will come back in time and hopefully up this to a more respectable rating but currently it is what it is, what we are coming to be used to receiving; half finished games that are sold at full price with the promise that they will finish their work while we suffer through.

Update: after some bug fixes the game is more enjoyable and does deserve a higher score. I have moved from a 3 to a 6 but still a far cry from what the community is looking for. You only have to visit a forum or page dedicated to FH to instantly see the disdain held by it's own community. The addition of bland Chinese cars to blatantly appeal to a specific region rather than car enthusiasts just shows how out of touch the devs are and the omission of previously included classics makes the roadmap of this game a real head scratcher. I stand by the opinion that this is a game rushed out the door to avoid another Halo infinite embarrassment. The blind 10s on this page make me wonder if the people actually put any time into the game or are once again buying into the console wars.

Welcome to Forza Horizon 5, a huge pile of legacy code that can't and won't ever be fixed completely if previous installment is any indication. A great game and almost ideal balance between arcade and simcade that is utterly ruined by being in alpha state at best and that will try and kill your enjoyment at every turn.

No matter how many patches they roll out, FH4 has shown us all a simple fact. The game is utterly broken in many aspects that devs are unable to fix, be it due to incompetence or new generation of coders inability to make sense of all the twists of legacy code put on top of itself in a huge, ugly Frankenstein's monster. When they fix one thing, two more things break. They fix one of those two things - old thing they fixed breaks again. Etc, etc. It goes, and goes, until they arbitralily decide it will have to do, when in fact it won't do at all. Some bugs and crashes in FH5 go as far as FH4 release, and they are still here, and they are here to stay.

That said, you won't get a better overall racing experience outside of actual simulators than from FH5. The game is just this big, racing feels just this good, and it gets better and better as you learn how to tune and drive. Sadly, there's just no competition. Not on PC. Forza Motorsport roots made sure modern NFS and Driveclub racing feels like junior karting in comparison, and Gran Turismo is kept as Play Station exclusive title.

I got to give this one a thumbs down. Barely different to Forza Horizon 4, this is a game for kids, not for adults. Sure the handling can be challenging but it isn't as good as it could be - and the constant chatter, grand parading of cars and dancing on stage are annoying as hell. Great for the Tik Tok generation, but not adults.

The game is fine, although it's the same Forza Horizon 4 in different landscapes with some graphics improvement. But the music is a huge letdown for me. Since NFS Underground I can't imagine a racing game without some descent music and Horizon 5 has even worse pull than the 4th game.

WHY IS THIS GAME NOT AMAZING?
Hello my name is jhon and my Gametag is JhonRivaille, I really like racing whether in game, movie or real life and this criticism is for the directors of this franchise, what is the biggest problem with this franchise?
I WILL TALK FIRST ABOUT THE GAME DEVELOPMENT AND AFTER THE GAME

1- Development time, I don't know how the development of a game of this size works but I believe it would take at least 5 years to make a game well done, it would be great to STOP releasing one racing game per year and START releasing one game well done by generation because you can keep strength in high only with upgrade.
2 -And the second most important thing To unite the two studios, (Turn10 and playgrounds) and unite the two games into one, so that the developers work on the same game, that would be great for two reasons, the first, the two studios would have divided work one studio takes care of cars and physics and the other studio takes care of the map, etc, and the second reason would be that the community would be more united, it would never have an empty lobby over the years.

THESE WOULD BE THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IN MY OPINION

Now I'm going to talk about the game.
For me the forza horizon 5 IS FUN however it is the same game as always only in another country and this is very bad for the new generation, because we players expect an evolution of the previous games, not just change the graphics that it doesn't work anymore, at least with me.
Come on, one of the biggest mistakes of the game is that it's just to please kids and casual gamers, the amount of racing the game pushes on the player.
In an hour playing I've played all the tracks and in the hardest mode.

SOAP PHYSICS, it doesn't seem like the car is fast, it seems like it slides on the ground and it's really bad, especially online, when a player hits me my car flies because of that damn physics, because you don't create a SIMULATION MODE that you can play in control for those who want to take the game seriously, compete.
Simulation equal to BeamNG DRIVE with complete destruction of cars and scenarios, until today in 2021 I don't understand why cars and scenarios don't break in forza? This would already be an absurd evolution for racing games.
CHEKPOINT, because you didn't **** find a way to keep players on track without this **** chekpoint, to me it's one of the most annoying things about this game.
PUNISHMENT, who was the person who had the brilliant idea of putting punishment when the player hits the wall? this is the fourth thing that makes it impossible to win a race, it would be much better if it didn't HAVE BEACHES but BIG BLUE ARROWS the same in NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND.

SHORT RACING.there's not much to talk about, these are races that you can't compete in, so there should be a simulation mode with longer races for those who like competition.
REWARDS.for me it's one of the big problems with this franchise, because the game PUSHES so many races and so many rewards for all players that the game dies before launching another one, because you don't make a game slow, for example the player starts with a car and little by little he gathers money to buy one part at a time, one car at a time, just like in the Need for Speed underground
Barn Cars. It's a good idea but a half-hearted idea because there's nothing fun and challenging about just finding a car, and yet it fixes itself. How do I actually make it work? When the player finds the car, the player You have to look for all the parts to restore this car, but not easily find it, it has to be very difficult, like looking for parts in places that have a lot of mud so the player has to use a special car for that same terrain, in the snowrunner game, betting races and etc, and not only that, these hidden cars have to be just iconic cars from movies like mad max's car, espeed racer, akira's bike yes bikes but only iconic bikes because it's the forza horizon i think it would be nice to have some motorcycles from well-known characters, and all these vehicles have to be good
made and not like you do, like a fast furious car that is impossible to control but the player has to pay to have.
Understand once and for all that forza horizon is a mix of real and virtual world, for example, why the name forza horizon? in my opinion horizon festival is just an excuse to do legal street racing without police, but not you need it just do a street race without police and with music, you don't need a festival, that's no good, you don't need to be 100% faithful to the real world, just know how to balance the real world is the virtual world just like in that movie ready play number one, which has a real race with scene destruction and vehicles that I find very insane and fun. IN BRIEF:THIS GAME IS WASTED POTENTIAL BUT IT IS WORTH IT TO PLAY, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO HAVE NEVER PLAYED BEFORE

I still feel the customisation options are lacking as some cars will only have the option of one bumper, or a couple of spoilers which is just not enough to customise and personalise the stock cars.

For me I will still play and continue to play FH4 over Forza Horizon 5 as I just can’t click with the Mexico setting over previous settings and maps like the UK, and Australia. Forza Horizon 4 made me switch from PlayStation after 21 years to Xbox but unfortunately Forza Horizon 5 doesn’t feel as good but that’s just my opinion which i know is probably at odds with 95% of others.

Becomes boring fast unless you are really into car games. I don’t understand the purpose as it’s not a full in racer or a full on simulator. Where is the long term value? Graphics are brilliant but games aren’t just graphics. Voices become irritating fast unless you are used to cheesy hype. Still giving it a 7 as well done but anyone honest will not give a niche game the media hype score

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let’s start with the good, Forza Horizon 5 is a true “next gen” game with wonderful, impressive graphics, a diverse, bright, and lively open-world map, and most of the features that have made Horizon games some of my favorite all-around sim racing games ever. If you liked Horizon 3 or 4, in terms of gameplay, Horizon 5 is likely going to entice you just in terms of look and feel, and that is a good thing.

While there is no redesigning of the wheel, in a game genre often defined by established brands trying to force innovation only to end up bogging down the basic formula that kept their games entertaining, I’m okay with that. In the areas they did tweak however, most of these changes are generally positive, if still perhaps a bit underwhelming.

The story mode/single player feels mare more composed the in FH4, with a new progression system (accolades) generally leading to a more cohesive gameplay loop, being used to prominently unlock new showcases, championship races, stories, and the like. The stories, being tied to accolades, feel much more like compelling parts of the main single player experience rather then optional side quests like in FH4, and the addition of expeditions was well executed and a smart decision, offering more narrative structure and fun, if not particularly challenging, little diversions into notable areas within the map. All of this is held up by dialogue which, while perhaps a little bit corny, establishes actual characters within the festival unlike previous entries (mostly FH4) that never really gave any background to the characters you were interacting with.

However, as much as I am enjoying FH5, an honest review can’t be written without talking about the games issues. To put it simply, this is a game that feels like was intended to be a true showcase of the next gen console’s power both graphically and performance wise, that was hastily ported/modified to run on the last generation as well as PCs due to the supply chain issues making series X and S consoles unavailable for a large number of customers. One has to wonder if it wouldn’t have been smarter for Plaground games to delay the launch until such a point where they can release it solely on the next generation of Xbox, or release it knowing that the unavailability of next gens consoles would have an effect on their sales.

The current state of the game continues to be full of glitches and large scale problems, included an inability to connect to their servers, many instances of crashing (particularly on PC), among others. A patch was released today, but while it did improve some of the issues, it does remain an uphill battle for the developers to rebuild trust among the fan base.

For this reason, I cannot rate this game (in its current state) above a 6/10. While I do have confidence that Playground games will be able to work out the kinks and peel back the layers hiding what is, in my opinion, one of the strongest Horizon games yet, the question remains whether they can do so before truly having to deal with a fed up, patient fanbase. In conclusion, I cannot in good faith recommend purchasing Forza Horizon 4 until we see further progress in optimizing the game, though if you do have game pass, it likely worth a download if only to look at the map and see if you can even run it, as many of these glitches are not predictable or universal. Personally, I’ve had very few problems on either my series x or Xbox one S, but I know people whose game has been so unusable they decide to seek a refund rather then keep the game in their library. For me, this game is one that is best treated on a ‘watch and see’ title; it could be fixed in the next month or so and the poor launch will be forgotten, or it could simply become another Fallout 76 or Cyberpunk.

The game is set in Mexico, but honestly, it barely matters; the game is really just an open world racing thing with some minor Mexican theming. You can tell that this game was made “with the cooperation” of the Mexican tourism board and the car manufacturers, because it is basically a gigantic advertisement for visiting Mexico and buying expensive cars.

This isn’t a bad thing though, necessarily, as it gives you an excuse to race around in a variety of vehicles across over 125 courses, plus dozens of “story missions”.

Unfortunately, the game suffers a bit from the fact that it doesn’t really do enough to encourage variety; it is entirely possible to just optimize a couple cars for the various modes and never switch, and while there are achievements for doing so, you can simply ignore them.

The story, too, is quite weak; not surprising, considering what it is, but still. The main character is a “superstar” who is serving to promote the “Horizon Festival” by winning a bunch of events and otherwise doing various stunts across the landscape of Mexico. Everything is just an excuse for that, but while you and your coworkers are enthusiastic, you never really bond with any of them. The closest point is when you race in “The Vocho”, which belonged to another character’s grandfather, but in the end, there’s no real payoff.

Sadly, that’s kind of the game’s biggest flaw – there’s lots of “stuff to do” but you’re likely to actually activate most of the most interesting things early on, and the sheer number of races aren’t really super exciting when they lack any real sense of progression. It’s really just a sandbox for racing cars, and while this isn’t a bad thing, it does mean that the game just sort of peters out as you run out of things to do.

The actual core controls are pretty good, though; it’s an arcade racing game, but not super arcade, and you do actually have to pay attention to what you’re doing. The racetracks are nothing like what Mario Kart 8 provides, but they are reasonable for realistic tracks, and there’s some variety in them.

Overall, this game is decent but not amazing. It is solid enough at racing and it has a lot of content, but the lack of a strong sense of progression and, for all its spectacle, it’s general shallowness, make it a bit hard to strongly recommend. Still, if you enjoy racing games, it is worth playing.

Then, as soon as the game start to add some reason to the mindless countryside destruction with a fully sick radio DJ announcing something like "Buckle up Buckeroos! Start swinging that skill chain, cos this next song gets you DOUBLE SKILL POINTS! Drop that needle, Elroy!", you're introduced to the Overly-censored Music selection which features several songs having jarring vocal cuts smack-bang in the middle of benign sentences that you have no idea what they're even about (though I guess it's fair they couldn't use the word BAR in that Ladyhawke track in case some religious nut flays their child and then ushers them out the frontdoor to be stoned by the rest of the townspeople).. But I guess they wanted to be able 'name drop' current hit bands and songs for 'street cred' to garner extra interest from the general public? Anyway the result sounds like the cheap CASH GRAB stunt it is with how BUTCHERED THE MUSIC winds up being.

Another glaring oversight when playing on modern equipment is Incorrect HDR tone-mapping which presents on 10-bit displays with such quality visual effects such as red taillights appearing white at night. Not normally the kind of issue you'd expect on a flagship title of this supposed calibre.

All-in-all, there's nothing new or original here if you've played Forza Horizon 2... or 3... or 4..
The night sky does look a bit better in this one I'll admit, but it's still not using 12K photography like the daytime sky has been since FH3.

TL;DR: Gameplay-wise, it's more of the same. Visually, some obvious improvements, yet a wonky HDR implementation tarnishes the final image. Audio is objectively worse due to a heavily censored track selection - I'm sure NOBODY enjoys huge sections of silence where some catchy lyrics are supposed to be. Why didn't they just choose some kickass electronica and driving rock riffs with minimal vocals that don't need to be removed? Or some vocal-less mixes of the same tracks directly from the studios? The mind boggles..

Sure there are a few bits that look a tiny bit better here and there but it's certainly not a generational leap like we used to get back in the day. I also played it on the older Xbox One X and couldn't tell the difference between the Xbox One X and Xbox Series X versions. And the content feels like I've done it all before because I have done it all before in Forza Horizon 3 and 4. For example the showcase events. You race bikes, planes, trains the same as you did in the last 2 games. They could have at least watched some old episodes of Top Gear and ripped off some of the whacky races out of that because that's exactly where the showcase events took inspiration from in the first place. Because it doesn't look any better than the last 2 games and the races are very similar it basically feels like Forza Horizon 4.5 rather than 5. It's just a new location and a few new cars really. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great racing game and top of the pile when it comes to racing games. You won't find a prettier more well polished racer out there than this. It's just growing stale. I unlocked all the main events and did all the big races within 2 days and then became bored of it. Expand

Sure Horizon 5 looks great, the sound is improved, there is a lot of variety in races, but - I admit with a heavy heart as a fan of the series - after spending a few hours with the latest installment - I'm already bored with it.
In my opinion, the only thing that really changes is the location, because the cars have been practically the same for a long time. Sure, some new models and some classics are added, but the vast majority of the garage is still the same. The only thing that changes is that in one part the car can be bought at the showroom, then it is found in the barn, and next as a part of the DLC. This does not change the fact that there are not enough new cars - example? Audi - new models: RS6, RS7, RSQ8 - nothing in the game. New VW GTI/R - none. New GT3 and Turbo models for the 911 - same.
Personally, I am also bothered by the fact that the collection of cars is somewhat detached from the country in which the game is taking place. Since we're in Mexico, let there be more American cars, a little less known models perhaps, but let's limit the number of, for example, hot hatches that are simply not there. What works for the UK does not work for Mexico.
The games from the Horizon series are great, but for players who play a lot in the each installment of the series, they do not present any added value - just new views outside the car window and a little changes here and there. In my opinion, Horizon needs more integration of locations and cars. Choosing a country where the automotive culture does not exist does not make sense, because the world is becoming a generic place. In the second installment, the south of Europe matched the climate of supercars, trips between Horizon stops, etc. A lot of local cars appeared in Australia. There was no general idea in the UK anymore, but since the car scene is huge there, everyone could create their own „car world” in the game. And in Mexico - I don't know ... I don't like it. The country in the game is beautiful, but it’s not great for a car game. Japan would be much more appropriate, or a return to the USA (eg California). I will spend many hours in the 5th installment, but it is not the same thrill as in the 1st or 2nd installment.

if you liked any of the horizon games then go for it, but don't expect anything new or groundbreaking, also to add the game has inherited bugs that have been in horizon games since FH2, major graphic hick up's, server connection issues, making the general enjoyment fragmented

It's just thrown into every game now even if it has no place there. Fortnite done it to show you how much damage the gun done which makes sense but in Forza it shouldn't be there. I preferred the older horizon games where you worked your way through each area. Now in this game, I don't know what the actual completion goal is? It's more just driving round a map doing random races. There is nothing wrong with that but I would prefer to have something to work towards. This game has got it's good parts. Handling is improved. It's generous with cars and credits (take a hint Polophony). The map isn't to bad. The AI is alright. Driving still isn't at SIM level but I think horizon is better that way. I hope FM8 is more of a SIM then keep horizon more arcade style. That would be awesome. I hope future Horizon titles remove all the dumb stuff like colour tears and stuff. If you have played a Forza Horizon game before, there's little here that's new. Bugs persist even if they rarely ruin your game, and there generally seems to have been a lack of attention to detail. Compared to FH4, this game feels empty and monotonous - and generally just a bit bland after you've sunk a few hours into it.

Cars are given out too freely, and wheelspins still offer far too many horns and clothing items that add nothing too the game.

This isn't a bad game - not in any way - just one that suffers from a lack of innovation and far too much hype from the creators and gaming critics.

It's such a shame because Forza horizon 1 is one of the best racing games I have ever played. It had a simple, but engaging story. You earned a fair amount of money from racing, but you still had to work for it. That is the biggest difference, Forza has now become this huge sandbox that any 4 year old, or grandparent can play with ease. Now, if I'm honest, this is still a really good game. The graphics are beautiful, there's plenty of content and online is great. But for me, I'm still salty about how much better it could be. It's hard to enjoy a game when there's no reward for playing it. If I don't log in for a few weeks, I load it up and I've been giving 14 cars, 6 super wheelspins, and god knows what else

Rant over anyway, it's worth playing if you have gamepass regardless, if the Devs are reading this, PLEASE BRING BACK THE GRIND!

The PR stuff just broke the game, everything else is great. Driving around the city going to your target is fun until you get interrupted by drift or speed zones. Those PR stuff's just way too intrusive and has no way to turn them off.

I don’t know tbh I’ve been playing for a year now and this is my honest review
The game just kinda dropped out after a while and the player base dropped to a tenth of the launch
Don’t get me wrong the series 17 Japanese automotive was rad but the hw expansion was ,while cool and all, really controversial and I almost feel like leaving sometimes but hopefully we will get a much needed

Don’t get me wrong the series 17 Japanese automotive was rad but the hw expansion was ,while cool and all, really controversial and I almost feel like leaving sometimes but hopefully we will get a much needed improvement in expansion 2 if not Horizon 6 If not, I don’t have much more hope for the devs
They had a good run but paywalls and the whole “ppl don’t want an ordinary car version” kinda ruins it I’m on the lookout for Motorsport 8 and idk in the far future fm9 might be a last resort if you get what I mean. Solid(ish) game but like everyone says All good things must come to an end and that’s what I fear happened on the 28th September 2018. I still have a little hope but it’s deteriorating fast so the devs better get their 4$$es in gear
Well rounded but boring without anything to do
    (Duh) bye

My only issue is you're able to tell, pretty early on, the developers weren't exactly sure what to do with this game. At least the game is a pretty sight to behold.

Mediocre racing game. Got bored pretty fast. DLC are not worth it either. 2nd DLC feels like a more expanded WILDS campaign

The best arcade races nowadays. But it is becoming clear that it's getting harder and harder to move the successful formula forward.

It’s safe to say that Playground Games have delivered something special with Forza Horizon 5 – and as far as I’m concerned, this is currently the best driving game out there.

Forza Horizon 5 is one of the best games of the year and starts the discussion on whether a racing title like this one could be GOTY. It stands out from the rest of similar games, both in terms of technical and gameplay aspects.
