By god, users who are salty about devs charging for 4k assets and ray tracing really need to stfu.

This is a 10/10 game, without question.

And it is gorgeous and plays great on both I’m not upset with it but do hate they charged for the upgrade that so many other games give away for free. The game is an 8 out of 10 hands down the business practice is a 0 remedy knee they had a game they could do this with and they did it. No one would have done it for quantum break cause that game was meh at best but this game is actually fun and the story is great. If you didn’t buy it on last gen I would say it’s worth the 40 to get it now. Other wise I’m sure it will be a 20 or 30 dollar game soon enough. Expand

I cannot believe the amount of positive reviews for this game. The writers (both of the reviews and game) should be deeply ashamed. The main character won't shut the **** up. It's maddening. She constantly narrates everything with the most inane commentary of all time. There is zero immersion because you are not the main character, some moron is. The best parts of the game are totally immolated by this. The gameplay loop is also tragically bad. Run through office space after office space shooting enemies who for some reason take your entire clip to kill, but themselves are armed with SMGs and sometimes even forcefields (that also take your whole clip to bring down). There are no difficulty settings either, except to make yourself invincible or turn on one-hitting. Which of course, ruins any tension in the fights. The dialogue is all poorly written exposition, and then followed by more inane and incredibly annoying narration by the main character. All I could think is "why won't she shut the **** up so I can have my own thoughts about what is happening." The mystery and paranormal intrigue is the only redeeming factor, but they ripped the concepts straight from SCP, which is a much much better use of your time if you enjoy that kind of fiction content, because SCP contains literally thousands of stories, and "objects of power", and this game contains maybe 5 or so. The game's best quality is that it isn't totally linear, and you can explore around and find clues and hints about the mysterious objects and events. But this is not the focus, and there isn't nearly enough of this content to justify the game's existence.

Do not buy this game. I was lucky that I got it for free from a friend and didn't waste a dime on it.

Do not support greedy developers by buying it. As an early adopter of the original Control, I see no reason I should pay one more time to get the next gen upgrade. Also saves are not even transferable to this version.

Cash grab. The optimization is very bad. I thought Remedy was a good developer. They should bring a 'Graphics Mode' feature to Series S. Also the optimization is not good on Series X too.

It would have been a 8 without the buggy achievement in the AWE dlc. Severe ? Well, before re-selling a game hiding behind "next gen" pretexts, you'd better repair the said game before.

The thing could globally have been even greater with better lypsinc (really weird at times) and better voice acting overall.

    story

Crazy from start to finish, even the credits were crazy. I didn't understand a lot and would have liked to have had an AHA moment, but basically it always motivated me to keep going because it was damn exciting and thrilling, even if I didn't understand much. I always wanted to keep progressing and see what comes next. I really liked Jesse Faden as the protagonist and not only did the main quests encourage play, the side quests were also sometimes really cool.

I haven't always read everything, but even here I tried to get as much information as possible. The authority, the director, the hissing and everything around it was nicely set up and is a great world to immerse yourself in.

The two DLC were also heavily staged, as was the main game, through various dialogues, cutscenes, creative gameplay and story links, etc.

    Gameplay

For me the shining star in the game. Nice crisp combat game play with various weapons, linked with the telekinetic skills of Jesse and many upgrade and skill options (especially when it comes to skills, throwing three objects at the same time is really awesome). Again and again tearing out all sorts of objects in the area or parts of the wall and hurling them at opponents was really satisfying and I never got too boring. But also the possible interaction with the environment and simply destroying or blowing up everything was nothing but fun!

Gathering resources and looking beyond the normal path was never boring and also had a lot of influence on the upgrade options. Just Jesse's move to open a chest was never boring.

In the DLC there was also a little different gameplay and you could also call colleagues to destroy objects to unlock paths or to create new paths.

Only with the boss fights could they have come up with a little more (for the main quests). The side missions feature cool fights, where you are rewarded for finding or completing the quest, or in the Foundation DLC.

    Atmosphere / graphics

Pure excitement, creativity in design and a cool office building. It was graphically consistent and fitted in well with the overall look. The constant whispering or any noises only add positively to the mood. The characters actually look pretty good, unfortunately the facial expressions are sometimes really bad.

The music, especially in two specific moments (the main game and a side quest Foundation DLC), was inserted just right.

    Conclusion

A really good game. If someone only has it in the backlog so far, I advise you to start right away. Really great, with a few small weaknesses, sometimes it dragged a little, but for me it deserved 9/10 hissing beings.

    - Art direction. The art direction and style of this game is magnificent. Visuals you have never seen in any other visual art medium. The scope and scale is insane.
    - setting: a government office building that contains pockets and bridges to other dimensions. The office building is full of secrets, puzzles an; it is creepy as heck.
    - Atmosphere and tone: this game is a psychological thriller. The atmosphere fits that. I would not call the game scary, it is unsettling constantly. Scary moments yes but always creepy.
    - Combat: just play it and get all the abilities. There is no other game that plays this cool!
    - Movement: movement is great especially with dash and levitate.
    - Level design: souls like interconnectivity. Need I say more.
    - Great music.

    Negatives
    - Some wooden line delivery from side characters.
    - Punishing check points.

Control has that signature Remedy feel to it, from its unique combat to its completely out there narrative, something only Sam Lake could be a part of. Although the story is Control’s strongest asset, it will take a lot of concentration to piece it all together. While I’m not a fan of forcing a rebuy to get the Series X|S version if you bought the base game at launch, Control: Ultimate Edition is without a doubt the definitive edition you want to experience, even if it’s for the second time, as the 60fps Performance Mode makes it feel like a completely new and better game. Welcome to the FBC Director.

Control Ultimate Edition on the Xbox Series X|S is just about every reason to play Control, conveniently stored in a plastic green box. If you’ve played before, the stellar AWE DLC, the stripping away of old infuriations, and the showpiece graphical improvements are convincing arguments for hopping back in (even if it demands that you pay extra for the privilege). If you haven’t played Control before, then you have the reassurance that this is a deserving Game of the Year, in its definitive format.
