    Terrible, what a shame they released it in this state. Too buggy to play. Constant glitches, can't see loadouts, can't always deploy, lag every game. No scoreboard. No TDM game mode apart from portal which currently gives little to no XP

    It's literally EA making this franchise more appealing to 12 year olds in hope that they will carelessly throw their money at EA like they do with other games like fortnite, Apex, CoD. Watch EA flood BF with cringey skins. BF is now a dead franchise

    Unfinished. Absolutely garbage. Who designed the UI for this? It's an atrocity. Quite possible the worst UI I have ever seen developed. The fact that they paid someone(most likely an intern) to design this is incredible. This is just one of 2042 things wrong with this disaster. Too woke for me.

    Not only is it buggy on PC, it's also buggy on consoles. You can't even talk on voice chat. BECAUSE THERE IS NO VOICE CHAT.

    On XSS there is nice stable FPS. But many bugs and problems with netcode makes the game awful. Hazard zone is absolutely useless mode. Original modes of BF 2042 are not playable because of bad balance and awful level design. The only reason to buy this game is BF Portal. But bad optimisation also can spoil your experience in Portal modes.

It’s a though EA or DICE gave this iteration to an inexperienced indie studio this time around and just left them to it for 3 / 4 years with no help or support. There’s no fixing this.     Battlefield games are ones of potential. BF4 launched in a horrible state and it took them 2 years to fix everything. Battlefield 2042 isn't nearly as broken but it does need work. Thankfully about 6 months of work should do the trick.

    I'm still giving it a 7 because I'm really enjoying the game despite the flaws. I think it feels better to play, it's gorgeous and runs great on series x and PC. I was playing today at ultra settings with ray tracing at 4k60 no DLSS. With DLSS on quality I easily hit 80 and with DLSS and RT off I was averaging 107.

    Why include this in an Xbox review? Simple... Aside from ray tracing the Xbox version holds up quite well against PC. Yes PC looks better but not in a way that you notice during gameplay. It also loads SIGNIFICANTLY faster on Xbox.

    I see people complaining about the new class system but I like it. I hated being stuck in a certain role and being limited to certain weapons. There's no reason a medic or mechanic can't carry an assault rifle or dmr.

    The only real gripe I have is there's no scoreboard but I also understand it. If you're not that good but enjoy playing but constantly see your name at or near the bottom of the list it's probably going to push you away from playing.

    The specialists are unbearable and their phrases ridiculous.
    A lot of mechanics from previous games are missing. You can see that this game was a battleroyale and at some point in development they turned it into a conventional game.     Absolutely unfinished. This is not a game at this time. Shamefully pushed out to please share-holders. Maybe in 2 years it would have been worth a look, but as it is, avoid it like the plague.

    Péssimo tempo de espera pra encontra partida no hazad zone, o nivel de level pra liberar arma torna o jogo menos competitivo pra jogadores iniciais, gráfica bonito em alguns mapas e péssimo em outros. O som dos passos esta um lixo pra headset não importando qual configuração vc use.

    I don't even know what to start with, the list is endless, I just try to list all the points, I've been playing the New Zealand trick consistently since the first lesson, and still there is no real Battlefield feeling, I'm now almost level 20 and draw my first conclusion.

    Now to the individual points:

    Negative:

    There is no server browser in AOW, you get to a new random server every round, that's unbelievable!
    From here you should rethink the purchase, that's an unrivaled outrage, because there is no map rotation at all, because you come back to a random server every round, so it can be good that you come back to the same map you have already played the round before who comes up with something like that.
    It's also not conducive to team play in random play, because you don't even stay with your squad with whom you may have been very good.

    There are no more factions, everyone is some 0815 superhero with unnecessary skills.

    And because everyone is a superhero, and there are no armies, you can only tell them apart with unnecessary red and green glow sticks.

    You can't see who has what because there are no classes, that sabotages team play even more.

    There are far too few points for team play, now Rambo is the hero of the hour on the server, who needs Battlefield gameplay when there is CoD XXL now.

    Take everything that is left of Battlefield with flags, support the team, and so on is only decoration because, as I said, it is a CoD XXL.

    The entire movement is copied from warzone, and a huge step backward from Battlefield 5.

    Furthermore, the immersion of a war game is destroyed by radio stations that would like to make cool in vehicles such as combat helicopters and the like, plus then the would-be cool sayings of the operator, not to be surpassed in terms of unnecessary.

    There is no longer a real scoreboard that you don't need anyway, it's all about shooting people, who needs team play in an XXL CoD.

    Normally, Battlefield is always an excellent game, for which you always need a new computer on a PC, but neither graphics nor sound are any pioneering upper class.

    Melee kills only work from behind, because it is now from the third-person perspective instead of with the knife from any side, and tear off the dog tag.
    If you do it from the side or from the front you need two hits, since the close combat kill animation only works from behind, as with CoD.

    The robot dog cannot be broken with a rocket launcher shot, the hovercraft can take as many shots as a whole tank, the whole thing is pretty questionable.

    Hitreg doesn't seem to be that good either, you have to take the LMG so that it feels like an assault rifle, otherwise you can sometimes push a whole magazine into it and the hit marker flashes crazy without the opponent tipping over, but you tip yourself felt around after two shots.
    Hopefully this can be readjusted with a patch, in the current state the whole thing is for the bin.

    The UI is far too colorful, it flashes and flashes from all sides, Fortnite kiddies are sure to find it cool when turquoise messages flash across the screen from all sides at all times.
    Clean UI looks different, but wouldn't it fit into an over-the-top Super Hero arcade shooter.

    Portal is also not the bringer of salvation as many believed, because it is not the real old games but just the bad 2042 mechanics with old maps that are reskinned.
    They brought the mode in because they don't trust their new concept themselves, so that all suspicious Battlefield veterans buy anyway, you can forget you will be disappointed, so it goes back to AOW where there is again no server browser, so stay just being able to play randomly every round is unbelievable and that's no joke.

    The musculoskeletal system is one to one stolen from warzone, you already know this fast run with a weapon held up and so, the movement of Battlefield 5 was actually already perfect and just had to be taken over and / or improved.

    Some bullets fly quite slowly, for example from the passenger gun in the tank, feels slower than from an air rifle, very questionable bullet physics in any case.

    Partly the graphics look really good, on the other hand so many large areas are just loveless and barren, no comparison to Battlefield 5 where every millimeter is detailed and made with love, although this game is no longer from the real DICE team is.

    The game lacks content in every aspect and is by far the most disappointing battlefield I have ever played. It comes with 3 game modes; conquest, breakthrough and Hazard Zone. Conquest maps are too large, empty and seriously lack destruction making the game feel unlike battlefield. Breakthrough is a mess of people running round like headless chickens and has no squad play what so ever..The game lacks content in every aspect and is by far the most disappointing battlefield I have ever played. Breakthrough is a mess of people running round like headless chickens and has no squad play what so ever.. Hazard Zone is just a complete waste of a game mode, devoid of any purpose and progression. The game only comes with 7 maps! All designed for scale rather than gameplay. Destruction feels none existent on them and any strategy is pointless as everyone is funnelled into one objective. Vehicles completely dominate the battlefield they take forever to destroy and can quickly kill infantry over and over again. Dont get me started on the hover craft.

    Guns. Battlefield was once known for having an independent class system with a whole arsenal of weapons for each class. Now any "specialist" can use any gun. And there only 23 guns! BF4 released with 84 guns and released more down the line. This lack of weaponry and the addition of "specialists" removes all team play and makes the game feel more like call of duty than battlefield.

    You would expect for a game that comes without a single player would have a tonne of content for the multilayer. But no, for £65 (or more if you brought the special edition) you get 7 maps, 3 game modes and 23 weapons. The gameplay is shocking, weapons don't shoot straight thanks to blooming, hit boxes are broken, some times enemies won't take damage and other times you will miss but still get the kill. I am constantly lagging and rubber banding. There is an insane amount of bugs, wfrom teammates not being displayed as teammates, to animations glitching to being unable to respawn.

    The only good thing about the game is the portal, which again lacks content and doesn't live up to what the devs said it would be. Servers are either full or are being used as XP farms. DICE have not given the battlefield the fans wanted and instead have produced a call of duty on a large scale. Removing or minimising all things that make battlefield battlefield and replacing them with half finished ideas or things taken straight from call of duty. It makes battlefield 5 look like an elite game.

    Positives are portal and the on the go gun customisation which both still come with a load of issues. My advice would be to buy BF3 and/or BF4 as these are the only good thing on BF2042 anyway.    … Expand

    The game has so many bugs its almost unplayable. You are forced into crossplay and there is no server browser. The game may improve but i would not recomend any console users buy the game until it gets major improvements.

    Worst BF of all time. Gunplay is ruined, EVERY VEHICLE is either OP or overly armored. No infantry friendly modes/maps compared to any of the other games. Maps are too big and boring as **** Classes are ruined by allowing anybody to pick whatever gun they prefer no matter what type of type of class they are playing. Overall this game is a waste of money and time.

    This game shouldn’t be labeled a Battlefield game. Specialists designed specifically for skin sales is ridiculous. The core of battlefield was rolling with a squad knowing who had ammo, health or a repair kit. It was fun playing a specific role and fulfilling your duties. I won’t even mention the bugs or lack of content.

    -the UI is absolutely the worst I have ever seen. I don’t know who they are hiring at DICE but they definitely have no idea what they are doing. Menus are awful to navigate, configuring weapons is clunky and confusing, and critical button layouts have been sacrificed for gimmicky pop up menus that don’t even work properly. Want to throw a grenade or ammo box? Two button pushes now! The HUD is overly cluttered with map markers. Spotting doesn’t work well. Scoreboards are gone. All of the things that are FUNDAMENTALLY BATTLEFIELD are gone!

    -the feel of the game is not Battlefield. The specialists all have campy catchphrases that are so cringeworthy, I cannot even fully express the second hand embarrassment. Is this Fortnite, or BF? When do they start doing tik tok dances?! It does not align at all with what BF is all about— dark, gritty warfare. This feels like a game made for ADHD middle schoolers. -the game is unbelievably bugged at release. They HAD to know at release just how broken this game is. They absolutely took our money and ran with it.

    -playing with friends is extremely limited, and you can no longer pick the server you play on, nor the squad you play in. Just… wow.

    There's about 2042 problems with this game, but I'll pick just one that is actually ALONE enough to ruin the entire game: the maps. Too big, too barren, too empty. What idiot thought that 128 means the map needs to be 5X the size of Los Santos

    There's other problems like crap UI, crap gunplay, crap hitreg, crap specialists etc. etc. etc.

    We all wanted it to be amazing and it's just not is it. Very bang Average gameplay and loaded with glitches and bugs. Had its best opportunity to knock cod off its high horse but failed miserably

    - Les serveurs on du bruler avec ceux d'OVH
    Les serveurs sont instables, impossibles de se déplacer sans faire le moonwalk... et je parle même par des erreurs de synchronisation qui font que vos balles ne touchent pas les ennemis.
    ( y a tellement de choses qui vont par a ce niveau que je ne peux pas tous énumérer)
    - l'accès anticipé vendu 30€ de plus

    Absolutely horrible. As a 16 year Battlefield player I have never seen something this incomplete. No leaderboard, no in game stats, no game chat, the list continues. This is absolutely the worst Battlefield ever released and I'm completely astonished that the developers allowed it to be released.

    This game feels like a cheap attempt to cash-in on the Overwatch hero system to sell skins to rich children. The game is buggy and the class system is gone, along with destructions and weapon variety in order to get the game out before the holidays. This used to be my favorite multiplayer series but I can no longer support it. Save your money and time and don't but this title.

    -Squads are way to small.. -Game is forcing to spawn at the beginning so in most cases you end up running for few minutes to go to the checkpoint where the fight is and probably you will Die after few minutes of running -Choosing point to spawn on consoles is clunky and not intuitive at all... -Game forgets skins i have chosen so you have to adjust it every time you restart the game. The same goes for loadout...
    -Number of weapons you can use is a joke...
    -Respawns are the worst in the series. In 90% of cases it will spawn you between enemy soldiers or tanks
    -Turret is bugged. You cannot place it on some flat objects, and i cant count how many times ive been shot because it didnt deploy. But you can put it in places where it is literally levitating... (Probably forgot few things here but there is so many that it is not possible to remember everything) In general the best review for this game is the fact that i have more fun playing portal servers on old maps than playing 2042 maps and game modes...

    As beta felt like an alfa, this feels like beta, lacking a lot of content and features and it has a lot of glitches. And because of "cannot load persistence data" everyone who was stupid enough like me to buy gold or ultimate edition should receive some kind of compensationas this is the worst Battlefield game for now.    … Expand

    Let me start by saying that I so desperately wanted to love this game. I have been playing Battlefield since 2142 and it is by far my favorite franchise. Below is a list (in no particular order) of broken promises and removed or stepped on features that, if any one of which on their own was missing, broken, or intentionally removed, I could live with. When taken in as a whole, however, it just... I don't know... this doesn't feel like Battlefield.
    **GENERAL**

    * Plus system is clunky dog ****
    * UI is clunky dog **** wrapped in cat **** Might be the least intuitive I've ever seen
    * No Campaign
    * Lack of game modes
    * No hardcore
    * No military ranks associated with numerical ranks
    * Audio is poorly mixed
    * The maps, while stunning from both a scale and visuals perspective, lack any real flow for infantry combat.
    * Non-removable profanity filter
    * Lack of promised destruction/levelution
    * Faction locked weapons and gadgets in Portal
    * No rule editor support for objective based game modes
    * No server browser outside of Portal
    * No private/rented servers
    * Doesn't just roll into the next map after a game in AoW, back to matchmaking peasant
    * Cannot join friends already in a match (pretty sure I could do this in beta??)
    * Cutscenes all over the place
    * Cringe 'look at me' after a match
    * Cannot customize loadouts before joining a game.
    * Cannot select loadout or operator before joining a server which, in certain situations, spawn you directly into the game with whatever you had last game. This happens when joining a fresh breakthrough game, mostly.
    * BFV and Battlefront 2 were gutted to make this **** lol
    * No mouse and keyboard support for console
    * Options and description for kill sounds changed from beta. During beta it showed you would be able to choose between BF2042 and BF1 kill sounds. This same option now only lets you choose between BF2042 sounds or no sounds.
    * No Practice/Test Range
    **IN GAME**

    * Zoom issues with sniper scopes
    * No zeroing sniper scopes, starting scope (not sure about the others) has no hash marks on reticle for references
    * Biggest maps we've ever seen, highest scope magnification is 10x
    * No holding shift/stick click to steady a sniper shot
    * No leaning
    * 22 guns total lol
    * No ‘All’ chat
    * Enemies look the same as friendlies
    * Bullet spread / weapon inaccuracy outside of rock throwing range
    * Have to opt out of revive every death, no idea who can actually revive me anyway
    * Have to re-select spawn location every spawn
    * No resizable minimap
    * Cannot move while prone and ADS
    * Damage dealt numbers, e.g. "VEHICLE HIT 28" after hitting a tank with a rocket, have been removed. This applies to both infantry and vehicles.
    * Weapons can't have different sets of attachments in different loadout presets. Meaning if you want to have a suppressor on the **one** semi-auto pistol in the game for one preset, you can't have it *without* a suppressor in your other presets.
    * No fixed heavy weapons * AA rocket damage appears inconsistent * BF5 movement mechanics removed * Obnoxious voice overs, operators are incredibly vocal, every time you do an action they say a line. * Melee takedown animations have been gutted. All enemies are brought to a standing position before one specific kill is performed. * Cannot dive underwater * UI elements do not have transparency element and distant 2D/3D map markers and UI elements do not fade out by distance and cannot be scaled up or down * Good luck finding your marker on the map **TEAMPLAY/SCORING** * No VoIP * No real scoreboard * No stats page * No commander * Cannot join, create, or lock a squad * Cannot switch teams * Repairing vehicles does not give XP * No squad points for issuing orders or following them * No marksman headshot bonus for long range snipes * 'Assist Counts as Kill' has been removed * No vehicle kill assists * Spotting system is contextual and misses a lot of the time.     Lacking leader boards, there's barely any destruction on maps and it's filled with bugs like not being able to revive team mates, and team mates not showing markers so you think they are enemies. There's also only 2 game modes on All Out Warfare and the load out menu is terrible. Don't buy this game yet, it's not worth it.

    Great game, Yes there are issues as there is with all games in the past 10 years. However when the game works, its great fun. Its just came out, got to give it time. If this game was delayed people would complain, and now its in early release, people are complaining, only way they can fix this game quickly and effectively is in the real world with us, the players.

    I have played this in Tech Test, Beta and early release, I can see this game has come a long way in a good way since Tech. I have a feeling I shouldn't of said this, but its the best example I got, Tech was buggy, terrible and unplayable, Beta was playable but with just as many bugs, and now early release its playable with a lot less bug than Beta.

    From playing this game from Tech to now, I can safely see there is progress, and the only way they can make the progress is with us. Give them time, they will get the fixes needed and we will see Battlefield become a great game.

    People just have to remember. Devs need real world data to get the game to reach it potential.    … Expand

I feel like majority of my time is running to a fight. Their isn't enough vechiles. They are always not available. EA missed the mark on this one.     People need to remember that it’s not even day 1 yet, yes the game has flaws currently, but it’s early on, let’s discuss the good things, graphics, increase field or view, tidy scoreboard system mid game. There is a lot to do yet, but the negative scores are certainly not fair at this point in the game

Tornadoes and stuff, for instance, are more like just visual effect than actual game-changer like some of levolutions in BF4 or behemoths from BF1 were. Hazard Zone is just pathetic, Dice should remove it and rework. Oh yes, no voice chat.
    Fourth, I played on Series S, and on that machine, 2042 looks not good at all. Runs smoothly at stable 60 fps but textures and resolution are blurry and have sharp edges especially on long-range objects. I believe that Series S can do it better if developers optimize the game.
    Finally, maybe in the future 2042 became a really good game. But right now it's just an unfinished shooter with a lot of troubles and mediocre game design.    … Expand

    I was so excited for this since I have no fps games to play at the moment and every big AAA game has been a let down this year and last. I believe they built specialists around hazard mode and I think they work well with it but adding them to the core game was a big mistake. With there only being like 11 specialists at launch and not enough added later and mostly everyone playing the same 3-4 specialists, it won't feel like battlefield. Your meant to feel like a faceless solider that can die and not have massive importance. Not every single game needs to make you feel like the hero of the movie or game. Now on to the release or what they call early access  but is still the full game. Again I don't pre order AAA games nor buy day one, pointless. I have the game pass which includes EA Access and allowed me to play 2042 for 9 hours. Within those 9 hours I can paraphrase the rest of the review by saying it sucks and don't buy until a deep sale 6 months later. Now don't get me wrong there's a Very good foundation here. You have the good ole Battlefield engine, the movements of the character feels good along with core gunplay when it works. That's it though. First and foremost there's no campaign, which automatically should of lowered the price of the game not raised it 10 dollars on console  for "next gen", Which is a scam. With no campaign, there should have been more time to add more content to multiplayer and its just not there at all. The thing that worries me most is that BF5 was a "Woke Failure from the start and almost no content added later. Bf 2042 gives you 22 Weapons in total with a handful more dedicated to portal mode, worse then any recent battlefield or call of duty. The few guns you do get come with a very small handful of skins that are very simple bland ones. The vehicles in this game feel cheap and blocky too. You get a few Massive but empty maps without much detail although pretty graphics at times, Two main modes, conquest and Breakthrough. It seems like battlefield strips away more and more modes every game. The performance is not there on new consoles and even worse on pc. Personally I dip below 50fps on Series X all the time. Next you have hazard mode which is like Battle Royale and a very simple version of escape from Tarkov. I thinks there's only map, that's all I got and it gets boring quick. Now the bread and butter and our potential savior is portal. A mode that for now combines Bf 1942 with bad company 2 and bf3 allows you to play 2 maps from each game along with a couple weapons and vehicles from them and a dedicated mode in each game that has potential. Seeing this mode makes me think they should of just remastered some old bf games and put them together in a bundle instead. If they add a lot more maps and guns to these games and even more games to the mode, there is something here. Like I said before I am very worried about post launch content. Even with portal though, you still have a buggy ugly glitchy ui. No scoreboard along with other features missing and poor button mapping. A small but necessary annoyance, on xbox you cannot disable crossplay within the game. You must go to xbox settings and disable crossplay which turns it off for every game which is annoying because I play a lot of co op games and like crossplay. On fps games I do not though with pc players. To wrap it up, there are a lot of bugs in this game but can be ironed out, a good foundation, and a potentially very good portal mode thats worth paying $70 alone in the future. Other then that there are way too many issues and missing content in the game and not worth the money nor time. Absolutely wait for a sale and months for issues to be fixed.… Expand

    The jet flying mechanics are garbage compared to previous titles, the rubber banding makes it impossible to dogfight, the hitreg is broken.
    Bring back the old classes (RECON, ENGINEER, MEDIC, SUPPORT).

    Personally I'm hoping the Day One installs the basic building blocks of an FPS title & they can start development of the game, the lack of leaderboard & stats is utterly bewildering every match I have absolutely no clue how well I did other than a "Kills & Assists" figure followed by an EXP read out before I'm parped back to the lobby to go again, but its hard to Ignore when the game highlights the top few players are typically PC players with 100-200 "Assists".

    On that note, to get out of this PC domination the Cross play toggle is greyed out and instead you're instructed to go 6 menus deep into your Xbox privacy settings to turn off Cross play, it (currently) can't be done in game - then you'll typically find 30-50 assists in the top players. - so the battlefield is certainly not level, maybe that's why theirs no leaderboard?

    We've also noticed the sound profile is strange, no matter the setting it sounds kind of muffled/numb and certainly isn't up to the usual Battlefield standard which up until this point has been exceptionally crisp & deep - also, if you thought a lack of footsteps in CoD was infuriating, just wait until a bulletproof hovercraft bulldozes your entire squad without a sound.

    I could mention a plethora of technical issues like lag / hit registration etc but this could be fixed at any moment, but I'll stick to core/gameplay issues.

    Like - once you fire up the much game, 2042 only has 2 game modes & Conquest/Rush (no light hearted deathmatch / team deathmatch modes etc) and the two modes are actually very similar gameplay wise so it soon becomes extremely repetitive and unlike Battlefield 3 / Bad Company 2 - I've not found any environment/destruction aspects of the game particularly appealing, I've found no favourite spots or inspirations so myself & my team mates all feel very disconnected from the game itself, we're all just lemmings and little more, we certainly don't feel like heroic soldiers carrying our team to victory etc & when we win, even when it's been a good match - none of us feel as if we've done anything to really earn that, victory or defeat feel much the same. (though, some defeats can be utterly soul destroying respawn cycle wise)

    So 2042 is bland - lets fire up Bad Company 2 & Battlefield 3 in the much hyped Battlefield Portal mode - Again, a resounding "meh" as everything is unlocked, exp is limited, and everything just feels more like a small snippet of the original games with slightly tweaked mechanics with its own bizarre issues, but it just doesn't feel the same games at all. - and again, no leaderboards.

    And then outside of game play - The customisation is "ok" but only ok, in games like CoD etc I can happily sit in a lobby waiting for friends spending a good 20 minutes just playing with gun loadouts, checking stats, skins, challenges etc but Battlefield has far less weapons & a lot slower in its pace of unlocks and generally speaking once you've equipped what you want you're done, it's also very hard to ignore the UI just feels clunky & dated... I find when I'm waiting for friends rather than exploring the menus I just go make a cup of tea/watch some TV while I wait.

    To show somethings just wrong - We aren't particular fans of the Forza Horizon series (neither am I) but over the past 3 evenings we've found ourselves spending an hour or two in Battlefield & trying Portal in desperate attempts to seek enjoyment, just to find ourselves looking at the clock realizing its only 8pm, so we play a couple of hours of Forza before going to bed.

    And this is the game we've all been at maximum hype level for what feels like years, the game every evening one of us says how excited we are for Battlefield, expecting to spend 6+ months playing it every night like we did Warzone/CoD - which we expected it to absolute wipe the floor with... and 3 days in, we're just playing Forza instead and checking for any other titles of interest.

    Day One patch is still due, so I hope I can delete this review then but I have a horrible feeling this is all we're getting and in a years time it'll be slightly more refined & bug free, but still not close to what we wanted/expected.    … Expand

    major drop in quality. Has none of the soul or emotion usually associated with a BF game. This feels like a cartoon battle royal clone aimed at 7-12 year olds who want to spend mums cash on player skins.

    Spotting, still gone and I don’t know who prefers it gone but bring it back ffs. Snipers are overpowered due to no suppression mechanic coupled with how awful assault rifles perform at any range over 200 yards.

    As far as I can tell you get no feedback or hit marker when you hit a tank with the rocket launcher unless you happen to disable a part. I’ve hit tanks with 3 rockets and have no visible or score indication that they were even damaged.

    If you get in a close gunfight and lose it the only indication of how much health your enemy had is hidden down the bottom right under their player card. Why take away the score for how much damage you did to an enemy?

    There is a shockingly low amount of weapons to choose from currently. I suspect they will release more in packs with operator skins and other superfluous cosmetics, they will of course expect you to pay for this.

    The operator system has been talked about already by every content creator. It’s **** and it’s entirely there so they can further monetise the game.

    In short this feels like a low grade no name first person shooter, it sounds vaguely like playing battlefield but underwater. It is a massive step backwards. They have taken what made their series unique and beloved, thrown it away in the name of profit and rushed out an undercooked mess, devoid of even fun as a redeeming factor.

    I won’t complain about the bugs which range from mildly annoying to game breaking. This is Dice after all, they always release a buggy horror show and patch it to greatness after a year. The problem this time is that they can’t patch back in the soul of the franchise, it’s gone from this game.    … Expand

    This isn't even Battlefield. We wanted something similar to 3 and 4 and what we got was a Titanfall/ COD crossover with a little bit of Battlefield essence. I got my refund due to the way this franchise is screwing up the one battle simulator we all grew to love. It is not Battlefield anymore, should be called something different.

    It's just not Battlefield.. This games feels like a generic fps rip-off with no soul. Gunplay is Clunky and inconsistent, vehicle movement and weapons have no weight to them. For $70 this game has nowhere near the content it should have.

    The biggest issue I have with this game is the lack of content in general. I know down the line the game will be near perfect but to have to go through the first few months with only about 5 base maps and 22 guns is very upsetting and disappointing to say the least. The customization menu is completely bugged, I can change my loadout names and my Attachment Loadouts but nothing else; even at level 10 everything is greyed out and unavailable including Specialist customization. The options have a 50/50 chance of working, I have had moments where I cannot change any options mid-match and got stuck with uncomfortable settings until I relaunched the game. There is no quality/framerate mode in the menu, which doesn’t exactly matter given that the graphics look like they’re in 1080p and the framerate is between 24FPS and 50FPS depending on how much you are planning on participating in the game; yes, I triple-checked, I do have the Series X version installed. There is no means to disable Crossplay which is disgraceful considering how much of an advantage it is to have a set-up that can actually run the game semi-functionally and how out of control the hacker situation has already become.

    All-Out War:
    There are 2 modes. 2. Conquest and Conquest-Rush There is no option for private matches unless it is Vs. AI. The core issue with both modes is the 128-player limit: the sectioning of control zones into separate points does not matter when 64 players are going to storm a single point whether or not it makes tactical sense. With a 128-player limit the maps feel smaller than ever because there is not enough environment outside of the control zones, so while the maps themselves are enormous there is only enough of what I will call a “playable area” for maybe an 80-player limit. I was going to go on a long tirade about this concept, but simply put BF 2042 does not have the map design quality necessary to make a thrilling and memorable experience for 128 players. The new initial spawning is confusing to say the least, it allows you to select vehicles in the load menu but from what I’ve seen it just ignores your choice and deploys all players as infantry regardless and spawns in 8 default transport vehicles for 64 players, which means roughly 20 players per team will play the first several minutes of a match while others are forced to either run or redeploy to play a part in any of the action. I was only able to changes specialists and loadouts once per match in the 5 matches I played which makes it impossible to experiment with different styles of play against different opponents. The specialists make the implementation of hardcore modes a pipe dream as the indistinguishability of 10 characters in a game of 128 makes target ID impossible. Rao, the hacker, is one of the many crimes against balance EA and DICE have committed as he can completely disable vehicle weapons and countermeasures for about 6 seconds and scrambles player HUDs to an indescribable severity with no cooldown in between the hacking tool’s uses except for a 4-second cooldown on something or someone that was recently hacked and his passive, which maps and tags the teammates of nearby enemies he kills, means that if a Rao kills one of your teammates while you are sneaking near them, you lose. This kind of imbalance exists in all specialists, Rao is just the only one I personally main.

    Hazard Zone:
    There’s nothing really much to say since the 1-minute queue time, 4-minute load time, unskippable 2-minute cutscene, 1-minute pre-game screen, and 30-second deployment cutscene bored me by match 2. Match 1 was cut abruptly short when the AI 1-shot my teammates and I from 300m away, so I guess it literally is just Escape from Tarkov.

    Portal:
    They have completely disgraced the memory of 3 of Battlefield’s most famous titles by giving the character classes we all love and remember passive abilities that make them utterly broken. I uninstalled it after looking at the Portal character screen. I do not remember much of it, likely due to my brain already trying to repress it, but I remember seeing that snipers from all three titles instantly ping anyone that shoots them and Anti-Tanks and Demolitions regenerate explosives the same way tanks do.

    All and all, do not buy this game because there was not enough thought or effort put into it to justify the outrageous price. It is disgusting that EA expects us to just shut up and buy and I just cannot do that any longer. Battlefield’s future is bleak and I expect we will be seeing heavy layoffs at DICE in the months to come.    … Expand

Companies have been trying to so hard to feign ignorance of that and claim that the game will come out right when everyone first thought it would and that just isn't the case anymore. This game needed another 6 months, easy. A year would've made this THE Battlefield to beat. More playtesting. More network/beta tests. Halo is raising the bar for what is expected and what CAN BE DONE when you give the game time to blossom.

    To corroborate my experience: some games I can't start (Breakthrough, mainly) because it just doesn't load the game. Often times my customizations for my character will be wiped when a game starts and all of my loadout options are blank. I try to hold RB to access my radial menu and it flickers before turning off. 50% of the time I can't revive someone as no prompt is shown. The hit registration might as well not exist, and some weapons are just clearly imbalanced. As I said, this would have been a perfect experience in a years time. I can't recommend this right now.

    For the first time in a very, very long time, I genuinely felt cheated by buying into this game. By the time it is worth the money I invested in it, it will be 1/4 of the price. I'm definitely salty.    … Expand

    Xbox series x users have been hard done by. You’re unable to disable cross-play in the game ( like you could in the beta), which doing it via Xbox settings stops you from finding a game. No Score board, hit registry is terrible, no xp at the end of the game and that’s if you’re able to get a game without it crashing and the worst part of all, no server select option. Save your money.

    If I were to list everything wrong with this game ide be here forever. Major gripes are a complete lack of a scoreboard, no campaign, and missing game modes. No rush, no tdm, no small game modes. 128 players is a hectic mess and idk if I’m even helping because I have nothing to refer to. Only saving grace imo is that the game looks great, graphics wise it’s a masterpiece.

    The game is stripped from every classic battlefield element it had. It caters to little kids. The game looks beautiful, but how it plays is atrocious. It is the most boring battlefield ever. You’ll want to end your life if you spend money on this game. I’m regretting my purchase.

    The gunplay feels good. The guns are well done but I wish the base game had more guns at launch. I enjoy the PLUS attachment system as well as the specialists.     It’s **** Now dice is king of triple **** development. So strange cross play without kmb and advanced settings for controller. Lags all the time. Error when u wanna play. Many mechanics work with bugs. Dice, PLEASE LOOK AT ACTIVISION. They did good cross play. Call of duty has support of kbm and it doesn’t break balance, good aim assist, and I CAN DISABLE CROSSPLAY FROM GAME’S SETTINGS!!!

    Destruction is still cool, and in the end I have to give the creators credit for the fact that the much marketing-washed akedo has its moments. Everything else that made a good Battlefield is completely missing, and that chase for record-breaking size or player count is really a poor substitute for well-designed maps, rich content in the form of game modes, and certainly no substitute for the original class system that the gameplay has always relied on in the first place.     Battlefield 2042 is a huge disappointment for gamers and the Battlefield franchise. Had this been the product of an indie developer, then this might be a different story as it would be understandable how a game like this could be the product of an independent studio that doesn’t have enormous corporate backing. Instead, EA pumped more resources into creating a CGI film that acts as the only real source of storyline context than ensuring the game was going to live up to the enormous amount of hype they were trying to create. I hate saying such negative things in my reviews, but when a game developer can’t be bothered to even try and live up to it’s own legacy, then I have to call it as I see it and for that very reason, I don’t recommend this game. Not even the nostalgia or temptation of ‘Battlefield Portal’ is enough to save this game from itself.

    Battlefield 2042 absolutely should have been pushed back by EA and DICE to some point in 2022. Instead, the version of this game that is currently available has been virtually unplayable for me at times since first releasing. Even beyond this, though, some of the key design changes that DICE has made in Battlefield 2042 don't feel for the better. Rather than improving on the core Battlefield experience that fans loved with Battlefield 3, 4, or Bad Company 2, 2042 is a bloated husk of its former self that is trying to recapture some semblance of its previous glory. As a fan that has been playing this series for well over a decade, Battlefield 2042 is a massive disappointment that I struggle to think is even worth saving.
