Despite so many good roguelikes already out or due soon, Undermine is still one that’s worth spending time with — this is a stellar debut from its developers.

It’s safe to say that UnderMine on Xbox One will keep you coming back time and time again as it definitely has a ‘one more go’ vibe. No matter how full your sack is or what upgrades are available, you always feel like you’re making some kind of progress and the rewards are plentiful.

Its fast-paced campaign, which can be completed in anywhere from 10 hours to 20 depending on playstyle and talent, works to counterbalance its more monotonous elements. The game is also just beautiful to look at, with highly detailed and varied character models and map layouts. Its satirical, light-hearted story is a breath of fresh air in a genre that mostly puts out overly serious and grimdark titles. The small twists on the overcrowded roguelike genre are almost enough to set the game apart and, even though it's not a perfect game, UnderMine is anything but forgettable, making it worth a look for fans of the genre or those looking for a welcoming introduction to it.

I really enjoyed my time with it. It is a procedurally generated rogue like very similar to enter the gungeon or binding of isaac. The gameplay is simple but responsive and snappy. The difficulty is a bit on the easier side but still can be pretty challenging. Above all, the progression in this game is really enjoyable. There is a grind for sure but it really feels like each and every game you play actually serves to make you a bit better. It really avoids the "complete waste of time" syndrome that I find a lot of these types of games can run into because the runs tend to get pretty long as time goes on and if there is no progression you just kind of waste your time over and over at a certain point. But that isn't the case here, there are tons of permanent upgrades you can work towards and they really make the game a lot more enjoyable.
Bottom line, if you enjoy games like enter the gungeon definitely pick this up. I don't think you'll regret it. It's a lighthearted game that has surprising depth and tons of replayability.

The controls are very easy to get adjusted to, however for games like this where you sometimes go against multiple enemies there is no dodge function to avoid the attacks so its easy to become overwhelmed and die. The cool thing about this game opposed to games like enter the gungeon is that you only lose half of the money and gems you find so if you get alot of money you still have some to upgrade. The graphics are not overly detailed but it meshes well for the character and backgrounds. It reminds me a heck of a lot like Zelda A Link To The Past as far as movement and graphics. So needless to say i was happy to play the game. I have to say the boss fights were easy to get accustomed to however proved to be difficult without dive or dodge functions so i died quite a few times before j beat him the first time. I loved the exploration part of the game and how hitting random items could yield money or items at random. I wish it had a multiplayer option but for the price of admission I highly recommend checking this one out and adding it to your Xbox One library. Expand

The wizard boss although was predictable was coming was a well designed boss. My favourite level was the dungeon level and the addition of pets were very fun to use. Overall a great rougelike that is fairly different from the others due to its interesting combat. It is probably standard difficulty compared to other rougelikes. Expand
