Two Parsecs From Earth on Xbox One comes with a great, cheap price and does a good job of delivering a solid Metroidvania-type platformer that is hard as hell; it’ll certainly challenge the lunatics out there who get their thrills from a test of their skills.

I can’t deny that the dev’s clearly wanted to put some heart into the game, but almost none of it pays off in any positive way. The character controls awfully, the powers are nonsensically strewn about, the Fourth wall-breaking jokes just highlight the poor game design instead of compliment it, and even those looking for an easy 1000g will likely be put off before they can reach it. While the aim may be to get to Earth, I’d suggest giving it a wide berth upon it landing.

Constantly attempting to break the forth wall, and try to get a laugh from you by poking fun of things you just did in game, become droll pretty quick. Even Deadpool takes a break once and a while. The game attempts to be clever in it's design leaving you to start without even the ability to jump, and slowly introduces you to basic abilities without really giving you any direction. The powers you finally stumble across aren't anything new to the genre, and some have such limited use, they may only come in handy once or twice, and rarely anywhere near where it was acquired. It didn't take long before I felt that I was in a frustration trial, as the lack of overall drive made most of the game feel like it just grinded along with rusty gears. Metroidvania is a formula of mobility Vs access, and scaling enemy difficulty. This felt more like it used confusion, and vague direction to make you wander, increasing gametime and frustration. Two Parsecs From Earth isn't the first Metroidvania I'd recommend availible to Xbox. Expand
