Most gamers can appreciate a throwback to the days of old 8 and 16-bit side-scrollers and Toy Odyssey is well worth it, especially for those looking for something unique in a world where FPS, sports and shooting games are the norm.

Whilst Toy Odyssey eventually may feel a little repetitive… the layouts, enemies and tasks at hand change enough that replayability does genuinely feel unlimited.

Toy Odyssey: The Lost and Found is a great game if you can look past the flaws. If I were to bring up a complaint apart from the basic story, it would be that the combat feels a little clunky in the beginning when you don’t have many abilities and advanced weaponry. Despite that, it’s still an expansive roguelike experience that people who like the genre must play. You’ll love it if you adore games like Bard’s Gold and Rogue Legacy.

Toy Odyssey does a lot of things right for an indie game and a few things wrong. The art style and general premise are what drew me to the game. I like a challenge, so the fact that the game is a bit punishing until you start leveling up your equipment suits me fine. There is a bit of a grinding element, but the dev team seems committed to improving the game with regular patches. So, the first patch made a HUGE difference in construction time to defend your base.

    Pros:
    +Challenging gameplay
    +Lots of replayability
    +Atmospheric soundtrack & VO
    +Unique art style and story

    Cons:
    -Sometimes too challenging
    -Occasional fetch quests
-Base mechanics don't add to the fun
