Toy Odyssey does a lot of things right for an indie game and a few things wrong. The art style and general premise are what drew me to the game. I like a challenge, so the fact that the game is a bit punishing until you start leveling up your equipment suits me fine. There is a bit of a grinding element, but the dev team seems committed to improving the game with regular patches. I tried my best to like Toy Odyssey more than I did as there’s much to love about it. The idea and the execution are mostly fine but unfortunately some game design decisions made playing the game more laborious than entertaining. Toy Odyssey deserves to be more fun and exciting. Dull routines should be for parents, not for brave toy soldiers!

Most gamers can appreciate a throwback to the days of old 8 and 16-bit side-scrollers and Toy Odyssey is well worth it, especially for those looking for something unique in a world where FPS, sports and shooting games are the norm.

I loved my first few hours with Toy Odyssey: The Lost and Found, however the grind was too steep and it wasn't long before the lack of real progress dragged the experience down, ultimately becoming boring by the end.
