    Lacking any real direction or gameplay. As much as I thought the story was interesting enough, you need to translate this into gameplay, or what is this point? Write a book! (Though the story isn't good enough for a book, so don't do that either.) The protagonist is very unlikable, and I don't think she's intended to be, and the conclusion is somewhat predictable.

    I think I'm especially disappointed because the hotel setting is an interesting environment to explore, but like the story, it isn't translated into anything worth exploring or engaging with. I constantly felt unsure of where I was meant to go and finding myself in places that you're not intended to reach until later on.

    It's a walking-sim, so I shouldn't harp on about gameplay too much. It let's you walk! What more should I expect?    … Expand

    The best way to describe The Suicide of Rachel Foster is as if you stumbled upon a book with a gilded cover, promising you a thought provoking story of mystery and the afterlife. Only to find out it's the ramblings of some teenager on Fanfiction.net who not only do not know how to write compelling and layered characters but also manage to misrepresent a toxic and predatory relationship asThe best way to describe The Suicide of Rachel Foster is as if you stumbled upon a book with a gilded cover, promising you a thought provoking story of mystery and the afterlife. The writers of this game are either so naive to the concept of grooming and pedophilia to the extent of them representing a perfect example of a 50 year old abusing their power to sleep with a 16 year old and seeing it as loving and beautiful, or they genuinely saw it as perfectly fine and moral. If it wasn't for the gorgeous graphics and immersive atmosphere I would have given this game a 0, however I can not in good conscience recommend this game not only for it's catastrophic representation of adult and child relationships but also for the (MINOR SPOILER ALERT!) glorification of suicide. I hope that I am wrong and that the writers are just inexperienced and misguided and don't actually share the beliefs they have shown in their game.… Expand

    The Suicide of Rachel Foster is a great walking simulator, one of the best in recent years. However, it has a big downside: an unacceptable message.

    Excellent atmosphere and horror tricks and an initially intriguing tale can’t make up for the lacklustre pay off and slow, tedious plodding back and forth around the hotel. Fans of titles such as Gone Home will likely get the most enjoyment out of it, but it also falls far short of that high bar unfortunately.

    The Suicide of Rachel Foster on Xbox One is a bit of an odd one because the story is decent enough and certainly very intriguing. But I’ve never really been sure what the team behind it have been trying to accomplish or whether it quite hits the points it needs to make. The themes feel a bit rushed at times too, and it needs a bit more work after the main twist.
