    The fact of the matter is, this is a great game, purely because the story and sense of emotional resonance this game produces – far outstrips and eclipse any of the games shortcomings.

To commemorate the announcement, the devs released individual trailers for the respective console. The Suicide of Rachel Foster centres on Nicole, who ten years ago, left with her mother the family hotel after discovering her father Leonard’s affair with, and pregnancy of Rachel, a girl her own age who eventually committed suicide. Now that both of her parents have passed, Nicole hopes to fulfil her mother’s last wish to sell the hotel and make amends to Rachel’s relatives. However, upon returning to the hotel, Nicole unexpectedly descends into a mystery involving dark family secrets.     The best way to describe The Suicide of Rachel Foster is as if you stumbled upon a book with a gilded cover, promising you a thought provokingThe best way to describe The Suicide of Rachel Foster is as if you stumbled upon a book with a gilded cover, promising you a thought provoking story of mystery and the afterlife. Only to find out it's the ramblings of some teenager on Fanfiction.net who not only do not know how to write compelling and layered characters but also manage to misrepresent a toxic and predatory relationship as loving and beautiful. The writers of this game are either so naive to the concept of grooming and pedophilia to the extent of them representing a perfect example of a 50 year old abusing their power to sleep with a 16 year old and seeing it as loving and beautiful, or they genuinely saw it as perfectly fine and moral. If it wasn't for the gorgeous graphics and immersive atmosphere I would have given this game a 0, however I can not in good conscience recommend this game not only for it's catastrophic representation of adult and child relationships but also for the (MINOR SPOILER ALERT!) glorification of suicide. I hope that I am wrong and that the writers are just inexperienced and misguided and don't actually share the beliefs they have shown in their game.… Full Review »

As much as I thought the story was interesting enough, you need to translate this into gameplay, or what is this point? Write a book! (Though the story isn't good enough for a book, so don't do that either.) The protagonist is very unlikable, and I don't think she's intended to be, and the conclusion is somewhat predictable.

    I think I'm especially disappointed because the hotel setting is an interesting environment to explore, but like the story, it isn't translated into anything worth exploring or engaging with. I constantly felt unsure of where I was meant to go and finding myself in places that you're not intended to reach until later on.

    It's a walking-sim, so I shouldn't harp on about gameplay too much. It let's you walk! What more should I expect?    … Full Review »
