    The Mummy Demastered truly wants to step out of the marred shadow of its source material and in some ways it does. It cleverly incorporates the essence of Contra to the well-established Metroidvania formula. However, the technical issues experienced throughout are hard to ignore. Along with the crippling setback of multiple deaths and a useless roll maneuver, the challenge presented feels close to cheap at times. Anyone looking for something along the lines of a Metroid or Axiom Verge can have fun with Demastered. Just know going in that this Mummy carries a curse.

    The Mummy Demastered is definitely a retro treat and in my opinion they’ve created something here that will bring the retro style games backThe Mummy Demastered is definitely a retro treat and in my opinion they’ve created something here that will bring the retro style games back to life. They have managed to nail a lot of the required mechanics and this makes the game both fun and very addictive. Another very good thing they’ve done is that they’ve included a lot of variety in a lot of areas, and this keeps things fresh and interesting throughout. There are multiple enemies for you to take on and each one has a unique quirk, and they allow you a number of different weapons for you to take these enemies on with. If you like a game that allows you to explore at your own pace then The Mummy Demastered has you covered. The world in the game is vast and there are lots of things for you to discover, which in turn gives the game some replay value. If you like an old-school challenge then this game will give you that as well. I liked the challenge but I must admit that some of the bosses were extremely difficult and I lost my cool quite a few times when taking them on. I would have also liked to have had my health restored when reaching save points, but unfortunately they don’t do that so prepare to die a lot. Responsive controls is very important in a game like this and thankfully they’ve done a wonderful job of keeping everything responsive. The presentation side of the game is awesome and I absolutely loved it. The visuals have a lovely looking old-school style and the accompanying soundtrack makes the game stand out a lot. At the end of the day whenever WayForward brings a game out I know I will love it because they always put a huge amount of effort into their product, and that’s exactly what they’ve done with The Mummy Demastered. This game will definitely keep you addicted and fans of retro style games will love playing this, in fact I think this game will create more fans of the old-school style. Without a shadow of a doubt this game gets a big thumbs up from me and its definitely one of the most enjoyable games I’ve played this year.… Full Review »
