Given that the average playthrough is over in less than two hours, I’m hesitant to recommend a purchase of The Journey Down: Chapter One without a sale price. It’s fun, but it hasn’t aged well.

You’ve probably already worked out then that I always look forward to a new point-and-click adventure, and I was especially looking forward to The Journey Down: Chapter One because I’ve heard lots of good things from people who’ve already experienced the game on PC. Thankfully the good things I heard about the game were clear to see and I definitely enjoyed the start of this game’s journey. For me one of the most important aspects in a game of this ilk is it’s story, and they definitely delivered here. The story was very interesting and packed full of humour and most importantly it makes me want to carry on with the journey to see what happens next. It is unfortunately a little on the short side though and I definitely wanted more to sink my teeth into, but that shows how good the story is so I suppose the shortness of the first chapter isn’t that much of a problem when you think about it. Throughout the story you will come across a number of puzzles along the way and these puzzles do a great job of linking up with the story. Each puzzle also has a decent amount of variety present in them as well and in my opinion they’ve got the perfect balance of being fun and challenging at the same time, which is always a good thing. Technically the game doesn’t suffer with any major problems and in fact it remains smooth throughout your time with the game. I was especially impressed with the controls that have been implemented because they remain responsive at all times and never become frustrating. As I mentioned earlier the first chapter is a little on the short side but I can’t see that putting many people off at all because the game is reasonably priced. Being reasonably priced will instead make people stay and follow the story the whole way through which is great because I can see this game getting better and better. The presentation side of the game surprised me quite a bit because I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Visually the game has a fantastic look to it and is packed full of style. The sound design has also been done very well as well and even though a bit of the voice acting is a little off, on the whole it still provides you with a very immersive experience. At the end of the day the first chapter in a series is very important and thankfully they’ve made it a very worthwhile experience. This means that I will follow this game quite closely and I can’t wait to see where this adventure takes us next. Expand
