A great point and click game on a console, only mildly let down by it’s slightly frustrating control scheme. Full of charm, wit and plenty of humour along the way; The Inner World delivers a fun and interesting story to keep you going.

Despite a few illogical puzzles and poor controls, The Inner World’s writing shines through to create a decent, amusing adventure.

The Inner World is an intriguing point-and-click adventure with the gameplay you would expect from the genre. The strength of the game relies heavily on its off-kilter dialogue and story, despite some minor issues with controls and lengthy, tedious dialogue at times. Furthermore, the art of The Inner World is charming despite a relative lack of polish, but the saving grace is perhaps the memorable cast of characters that inhabit this inner world. While not perfect, The Inner World is a charming, memorable experience with unique puzzles and a strong narrative.

The Inner World has the heart of an adventure game, but its execution can only be likened to a dilettante’s exploration of the point-and-click genre. Asposia is an inventive world full of personality, but even despite the game’s goofy nature, the puzzle design is unfair, and frankly, indefensible. The game is a respectable dabbling in the genre, but when Robert’s adventure finally reaches its conclusion (and it will have you saying ‘finally’), don’t expect to feel like you accomplished much of anything at all.

The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk is not a bad game at all but it also offers nothing different, so I can unfortunately see it getting lost in the vast amount of point and click adventures that are already out. I will say though that this game has some of my favourite puzzles I’ve played this year and that’s mainly down to the clever design. Some of the puzzles however are a little too difficult and in my opinion they didn’t need to make them this difficult. The story which is very important in a game of this type is thankfully very good and they’ve done a good job of keeping things charming and interesting throughout. I do however feel that the voice over work could have been a little better and in my opinion this takes away from the very good story. The controls in the game surprised me because even though they were originally designed for the PC they remain responsive throughout and they never felt awkward, which is great. The presentation side of the game is something I really enjoyed and it definitely lends the game a certain charm. Visually the art design is packed full of colour and lots of detail, and the accompanying music really makes the game stand out in a good way. I did notice however that the game suffers with some animation problems and this can harm the immersion at times. At the end of the day The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk is a decent addition to the genre, but unfortunately it doesn’t offer anything different from the spate of games we’ve already seen this year. It also suffers with a few problems that took my score down a peg or two and these problems could have easily been avoided. If you’re a fan of point and click adventures then you will find some enjoyment here, but in my opinion there are better games for you to play in the genre. Full Review »
