Dec 17, 2018Despite not giving us the ending we would have expected, Chekmate allows us to know every consequence of our action. Big Bad Wolf does an excellent job encouraging us to play the game again to change everyone's fate. The Council is the next step in the genre and a game that should definitely be played.

Dec 6, 2018I couldn’t feel particularly satisfied when the credits rolled. The Council had a great deal of potential, but ultimately, the final package ended up being rather disappointing.
-
Dec 14, 2018The story does deliver – at least for me – but the whole thing feels a bit rushed, failing to end the full game on a high. But saying that, it does tie up all the loose ends nicely, closing the epic world of intrigue and fantasy it was always destined to be.

Sep 26, 2019While it is clear that The Council is designed for multiple playthroughs to select different choices to influence different endings, the challenges thrown into Checkmate do make it a grind to have to replay, and to be honest, none of the good endings are even worth pursuing to that extent. The Council tells an intriguing and ambitious story, and Big Bad Wolf have shown the potential of what they can achieve for their next endeavour.
-
Dec 6, 2018This final chapter of The Council shines in its art design and provides a great way to take sides in the final intrigue. Unfortunately, the ending is expeditive and a bit disappointing. Moreover, the game still having some problems with animations, lips sync and framerate.
-
Dec 14, 2018At the beginning of the season, I called The Council the new benchmark for narrative adventure games. In some ways that's definitely still true, and with any luck we will see this series inspire other studios to go deeper. Sadly, those developers will also come away with a clear example of how not to close out a storyline.
