Sumo have made some stellar efforts in the past, but Team Sonic Racing is, needless to say, their best effort by far. What’s here is a love letter to all things Sonic, not just in character variation, but stage design, audio presentation, and much more besides. Despite some online teething issues, some questionable AI behavior, and the odd poor design choice, you’ll not find a better kart racer this side of a Nintendo system.

Under this cartoony hood is actually a competent kart racer. Team Sonic Racing feels good to take for a spin, and there is enough packed in for a longer drive as well. The tracks are all varied enough, the cars feel really good to drive and Team Adventure is a decent Sonic story, if presented a little poorly.

Team Sonic Racing sports the classic kart racer gameplay but with an added layer of tactics due to the new team play mechanics. It's less varied and modern than Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, but thanks to many gaming options and contents and a great technical production it can definitely be considered one of the best kart racers around.

Team Sonic Racing is a fun kart racer that stands on its own thanks to creative and well made team mechanics. Sadly the game is far from perfect and a poor track design prevents it from becoming one of the best in the genre.

Team Sonic Racing is a funny racing game and it's different from their rivals thanks to the cooperative extra needed for achieve de victories.

It might not be as good as Sonic & All-Stars Racing: Transformed, but Team Sonic Racing is a joyous and remarkably fun kart racer with a smart team-based twist. Gotta go fast, and that.

A decent but forgettable kart racer that’s lacking the variety of All-Stars Racing. [Issue#179, p.83]

At the end of the day, Team Sonic Racing isn’t exactly the game I was hoping it would be, nor is it incredibly close. It’s a good, very competent and fun kart racer, but it doesn’t have as much content or as much of a wow factor as the two incredible games that preceded it. Still, I don’t want to sound as if I don’t like this game or think it’s above average, because I do. It's a good, competent racing game, but doesn't have the wow factor or staying power that I was hoping for.

Team Sonic Racing offers a satisfactory experience. If you love Mario Kart 8 and want something on Xbox One, the game should satisfy you in the interim. However, you might want to wait for another, better game like Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled.

Team Sonic Racing is Sumo's third race around the track with SEGA's flagship characters. It's not their best effort of the trio but because of the intriguing teamplay focus, it stands up as a worthy game for fans of the genre and families alike. The roster leaves a lot to be desired and the game needs a few changes under the hood to really play how it should, but it makes for a fun co-op or competitive game best played locally with loved ones.

Team Sonic Racing might not be the strongest, most innovative racer out there, but fans of Sega’s previous karting games as well as fans of Sonic will definitely find something to enjoy. The team elements are very well implemented, and it’s nice being encouraged to work as a team in a game where you would otherwise do everything in your power to take your friends down.

The essence of Team Sonic Racing is good; its handling feels tight and smooth, drifting has a good flow to it, and the items are fun to use, as are the tracks to race on. It doesn’t bring much new to the genre, but it delivers where it counts. The racing is fast and fun, and the team aspects offer enough of a change to the formula to make Team Sonic Racing the endearing arcade racer it is.

Team Sonic Racing is a solid kart racer that suffers from a boring roster of characters, and an unbalanced difficulty that doesn't seem fit for anyone.

Team Sonic Racing is fun andTeam Sonic Racing's presentation side is fun and flashy as you'd expect from a Sonic title and from Sega. Team Sonic Racing is fun and enjoyable for hours and hours on end. The teamwork mechanic has been implemented extremely well making each corner feel important along the race. While racing around each track the controls always felt tight and responsive as well and the racing overall didn’t throw up any unnecessary issue for me. Team Sonic Racing has a generous amount of content for you, along with plenty of un-lockable content and upgrades for you to obtain in Sega fashion. Replay ability won’t be a problem either because the game offers you some beautiful and varied tracks and the presentation side of the game never seems to get dull or boring due to the rich art style and overall visual appeal backed by a rocking sound track. I would have liked to see more characters in the game and more weapons, so I hope for a DLC add on in the coming months. Team Sonic Racing is a game I’ve been waiting for, and I’m pleased to say that it has reached my lofty expectations. Yes it isn’t perfect, but it does what it sets out to do and that is deliver fun and enjoyable multi-player action from start to finish. If you love kart racing games, then this is an absolute addition to your Xbox One library. Full Review »
