Brilliant. Most innovative shooter I've played in years! The experience is super concise. Nothing in the main story mode is unnessary or repetitive. Being able to replay the story mode with modifires made it almost a roguelike - you learn the patterns but your build keeps changing. Can't wait for content updates!

At this stage I imagine my friends are sick of hearing about this game because I've recommended it excessively to anyone who will listen to me long enough to get the word "superhot" out of my mouth.

My one criticism of the game is that it feels like more could be done with such a unique concept. I was surprised by how much was done with it in the first place but after playing through it there are some things I felt it was missing even if it just amounted to more weapons in play in the game or a greater variation of environments. (I had one friend suggest the idea of diving from the roof of a skyscraper and eliminating targets on each floor on the way down as your hurtle past windows in slow motion with the end game being you attempting to wipe them all out and then transfer your consciousness to a waiting enemy on the ground below to avoid death).

The game is split up into small level and takes around 2 hours to complete though there are stipulation challenges and an endless mode where you start in a random are and try to rack up as many kills as possible, unlocked once you beat the story…
you can pick up items in the environment to throw at enemies to knock weapons out of their hands, grab their weapons, shoot and dodge bullets like the matrix master that you are…
towards the end of the game youre even able to switch bodies…
this seemingly over powered ability is balanced by the fact that it forces your targets weapon to break
and once you’ve killed every enemies in a level the game shows a rundown of everything you just did with no pauses showing you just how cool what you just pulled off really was..
The game sounds pretty easy but its not..
Theres a great challenge in targeting the right enemies at the right time making sure youre not going to get shot from behind…
and once you feel like you’ve got it all figured out the game switched it up on you adding harder weapons varieties to deal with
And youre going to die a lot trying to figure out the puzzle that is superhot…
Im not the biggest fan of this level feeling though..
the world doesn’t feel connected and I feel the experience would’ve been way cooler if this were one continuous world with checkpoints instead…
but that’s really my only issue with this game..
the delivery of this game makes it feel pretty cheap and throwaway, when there some addictive frustrating and satisfying moments to be had here
    that asside
SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!
That last bit was a joke…
that you wont get.. until you play the game…
    I give Superhot a 7.5/10

Whilst the game is very short (3 to 4 hours) the additional modes which unlock at the end really do provide a lot of reason to keep playing.
Endless mode is a time sink and modified versions of the main campaign like Katana only mode are equally if not more addictive and challenging.

All in all this is a great little puzzle shooter for anyone interested in a unique challenging and fun gameplay experience.

At £17.99 on the British Xbox store I feel it is good value for money and an enjoyable experience I can see myself dipping back in to here and there when I'm in the mood for something fun.

Original shooter where time only moves when you do. Really more of a tactical game.

Pros: - Original with awesome time bending gameplay - If not a big fan of shooters and more tactics this is great - The story was interesting/funny kind of a portal feel Cons: - Fairly short, I wanted more - Would of been cool to see this type of game with real world graphics - Not much

Superhot is a fairly fresh take on the over-done first-person shooter genre. Time moves at a glacial pace until you move, making for some gun-play that's more tactical than hectic. The gameplay is exhilarating in its own way. It's a good formula, but too repetitive to be completely addicting. I do have a couple of criticisms of Superhot.

The gameplay is exhilarating in its own way. It's a good formula, but too repetitive to be completely addicting. I do have a couple of criticisms of Superhot.

First is the story mode. The initial campaign you must play through to unlock the Endless and Challenge modes is mercifully short, yet still annoying. Some might enjoy the odd presentation, I suppose, but I found the plot to be a chore. It never grabbed me, and I felt Superhot's apparent tongue-in-cheek order to recommend the game to others wasn't as charming as they might've thought.

The other glaring issue with Superhot is the unrealistic body movement of the enemies. The unfortunate reality is if this problem were fixed, the game would be way too easy. Enemies make drastic, unrealistic and sudden contortions that make reading body movement as an indicator of where to aim your shots a highly unreliable prospect.

Other than these complaints, Superhot is an enjoyable game at its core.

I haven’t had this much fun in a while, I had seen it before it had come to Xbox games with gold but I didn’t buy it but I’m glad it did come out free. Not too difficult but challenging gameplay, original concepts and fun other modes to try after main story. It can be a little cringey at times but the story was great and you should definitely play this game.

Everyone is guilty of judging something or someone by their initial appearance at one time or another, and sadly, this was the case for me with SUPERHOT. When the game was added to the Xbox Live Games with Gold promotion this month, I figured I would give it a go and am very glad I did. Initially, the visuals turned me off, coming across as lazy or generic, which is actually quite the opposite. If you decide to take the plunge, you’ll find the most intuitive and thoughtful shooter in years. Hell, I’d argue ever made. And I’m not saying this just because the game told me to.

The premise of the game’s story is that you receive a copy of the game from a friend in a chat room. They claim the game is best title ever, which it is. You’ll quickly be transported into the first level, which teaches you the mechanics of the game. SUPERHOT is a shooter in which time stops (or slows down in the event bullets are flying) unless you move. This elevates the title above most generic shooters on the market and makes it more of a chess game, requiring the player to pick and choose what weapon to use on what enemy in what order. Upon completion, (or failure) you can view the game in standard time making the actions appear as if you’re controlling John Wick (or Elmer Fudd if you fail). As you progress, the tools at your disposal as well as the challenges you face will increase as you travel further down the rabbit hole. The story segments that play out between these missions is intriguing and the less you know about them, the better, so we’ll leave the story at that.

The tools at your disposal are few (unless you count the huge number of “useless” items that can be thrown at enemies to knock them off guard), with a pistol, shotgun, assault rifle, katana, bat, and your fists (which require at least 3 hits to kill) as your only options. Each of the guns comes with a set number of bullets which aren’t displayed, but the weapons can be thrown as a melee weapon at any point. Hitting an enemy with a thrown item will stun or kill them in the case of the katana, which causes the enemies to drop any carried weapons, often times into your waiting hands. Once you progress a bit through the game, you’ll also unlock the option to shift into one of the enemies, which recharges fairly quickly and can be used multiple times in the same run. This is extremely useful to dodge a bullet at the last minute or to get you out of a tricky spot.

The visuals as mentioned are a bit basic, but they’re also very complex. The environments are well rendered in shades of bluish white, with objects and weapons you can interact in black and all enemies appearing as red glass that shatter upon death. This coupled with the dos inspired story segments, menus, and loading screens really give the impression this is a homebrew game at heart. Gamers that choose to browse the dos menu will find some easter eggs as well as some hidden jokes. These small touches add to the immersion that you may be playing something you shouldn’t.

Upon completion of the story, you will unlock endless mode, which is hoard mode using the game’s standard mechanics. I found this to be the most addictive option in the game and have returned again and again to try to increase my kill count record or make videos of the John Wick-ish escapades to share on Xbox Live. While the menus are not overly clear on doing this, it is rather easy once you get the prompts down. Sadly, once they are gone, they are gone. There are only a handful of options for this mode from the start, and more are opened as your score increases. Unlike the story mode, these will place you at random starting points, with enemies spawning from multiple points swarming you. Each level poses new strategic advantages you must find, such as holding down a narrow corridor or using higher points in the map to draw gun fire from a distance. Death comes for you often, but the title never feels unfair. When you struggle it’s because you’re not using the level to your advantage.

With almost infinite replayability, SUPERHOT is not a title to be missed. Shooting carbon copy enemies in Call of Duty or Halo may be fun, but nothing in recent times has been as exhilarating as punching a red guy in the face, taking his pistol, shooting 4 of his buddies in the face, picking up one of their shotguns midair, taking out a group of 3 baddies with one blast, throwing it at the next one with an assault rifle, having his assault rifle fling forward, breaking his comrade into pieces, taking the rifle from the ground and mowing down 5 or so guys with swords and then warping to safety across the level, only to rinse and repeat until you rack up a kill streak of 88 or more.

I'm going to break this game down into three key components. Gameplay, aesthetic (both visually and audibly) and replayability. Now gameplay... it's perfect. It ramps up in difficulty from dead easy to challenging through the game. Its mechanic of time only moves when you move is the selling point of the game and just gives you an awesome sense of being some badass. The gameplay is exactly how you'd want it, different and exciting. The game sends you through about 20 levels each with their own structure and tools for killing the 'red dudes'. The visual aesthetic of this game is also perfect. The vivid enemies pop out of the white background and the way they break into shards of glass is just cool. As a way of making this game unique, it's pretty much as good as it could be. The audio aesthetic is just fine. It is not bad, there is definitely nothing wrong with the sound, it fits the gameplay very well it's just nothing all that special. It is exactly what I'd hope the soundtrack would be like, its just this game is designed in such a way that a loud pumping iconic audio would distract from the gameplay. So on that front it definitely is good, its just nothing that you'll think, f**k that sounded awesome. The replayability is what I would subjectively say is the least enticing aspect of this game. There are modes after you complete the main story mode that are designed to allow you to replay it, they just don't feel all too polished. There's a feeling that they just put them in there so the player didn't feel like they weren't getting much game in their game. The replayability exists it's just not too interesting. All in all, Superhot is a brilliant indie game that is very interesting, fun and unique with the primary downside being that it's so good and you just feel like you don't get enough of it. Expand

Clearly the most innovative shooter in years. Such an obvious idea and still it took so long until someone did that. The whole style of the game is very cool and fitting.
On the negative side, the (pretty good) story is only about two hours long. After that, you are left with a lot of challenges and a few "endless" modes, but these just recycle the levels from the main story over and over

SUPERHOT is the epitome of modern indie games; phenomenal gameplay, stylized graphics that are somewhat retro but still pleasing to the eyes, an actually somewhat boring and pretentious story, and is criminally short but keeps you engaged until the very end. If you have Game Pass, there is no reason why you shouldn't play it. If you don't, it may not be worth it.

    Great little game.

Both the gameplay and story are really unique with the former being super satisfying.

They also added some cool modes to play afterwards if you want more of the sweet gameplay however I didn’t spend much time with these.

Games like these don’t come around often and it’s definitely still worth picking up nowadays.

Superhot‘s time manipulation is a fun mechanic that allows you to play a first person shooter in a way you couldn’t elsewhere. Despite a few shortcomings, the game does a superb job of mixing the first person shooter genre and puzzle games into entertaining experience.
