Sure, it didn't look groundbreaking or revolutionary, but it just looked so adorable and charming that I just had to give it a chance. Well, shortly after its launch, I gave it a chance, dropped it, but then picked it back up and tried it again. And now that I've beaten the game...it's about what I expected, just with a little less "wow" to it.
"Super Lucky's Tale," as I expected, is a ridiculously cute game. It's beautifully designed, the lead character is adorable, and the game itself has an extremely "children's storybook" kind of feel to it, with a simple story that's nothing too deep, but still fun enough for what it's going for. The game is also very accessible and easy to get into, and there's plenty of content to collect in the game, making it relatively beefy for a game geared towards a younger audience. And with several different gameplay concepts, from 3D platforming to 2.5D platforming to endless running to puzzles to mazes, there's definitely a lot of variation to the gameplay.
That said, as varied as the gameplay is, it's unfortunately a bit too simple, and the only thing that might challenge you about it is the occasionally wonky controls and very poor camera. The fact that you can't really freely control said camera (you can move it slightly to the left, or slightly to the right, but that's it) only hurts even more. On top of that, while the game is cute and charming and feels like a classic 90's platformer, it doesn't really do anything truly unique or special with the formula, and it just ends up feeling very standard.
Overall, I wanted to love "Super Lucky's Tale" a lot, and there were quite a few things I really did like about it. It's adorable and it definitely hearkens back to the 90's platformers that I grew up with. I just wish the game did something more unique with that formula, and I wish it challenged me with something more meaningful than iffy controls and a bad camera. It's a decent little platformer, especially if you have kids, but it certainly could've been so much more.
Final rating: 6 out of 10 "Decent"

Super Lucky’s Tale is a standard platformer. It kind of reminds me of Banjo Kazooie or Spyro the Dragon where there is a hub world and then multiple portals inside the hub world. The portals take you to a platforming level. It’s a pretty standard platformer.

Super Lucky’s Tale is a standard platformer. It kind of reminds me of Banjo Kazooie or Spyro the Dragon where there is a hub world and then multiple portals inside the hub world. The portals take you to a platforming level. It’s a pretty standard platformer.

There are 2 different types of platformers, there are 2-D platformers like the original Super Mario Bros or Megaman and then there are 3-D Platformers like Super Mario 64 or Banjo-Kazooie. This game actually has both kinds of platforming levels. There are a lot more 3-D levels but there are a handful 2-D levels as well.

Much like Super Mario 64 where you’re goal is to collect Stars. This game has a similar concept but instead of stars its clovers. Each world, level has 4 clovers and I would usually try to collect all 4 in each level. You get 1 clover for completing the level, you get 1 for collecting 300 coins in that level, one by collecting 5 levels that spell out lucky and then each level had miscellaneous/hidden one. To simplify the game loop, collect clovers so you can open up a new area to collect more clovers. So it’s a platforming collectathon.

I wish the game was memorable, there is nothing overly special about this game. It feels like a very run of the mill Platformer. The game is also not very difficult, it’s a very low-stress game but it’s not very rewarding either. This is also a game where you don’t want to sit down and play through this is one sitting. That would drive you insane.

The way I played it was simple, I would come home from work. Play through 3-4 levels and then move onto something else for the remainder of the night. It took me a couple weeks to go through the whole game. I don’t want to sit here and just needlessly bash the game but it just doesn’t do much. It does give out easy achievement points so if you’re an achievement hunter then sure look at this game.

SUPER LUCKY'S TALE is a platform game that combines 2D and 3D scenarios. The artistic design is very nice and cute, but it doesn't have much variety of levels. Some people say that we can move the camera, and it's true but not 360º, just 180º.
In general, it's recommended for everyone who want to play a simple platform game, without need of innovation.

While the game manages to entertain and be fun most of the time, Super Lucky’s Tale is seen affected by some technical and design decisions that are hard to enjoy. The game can be easy for genre experts, though it will be challenging for both children and players who have rarely played a platformer game. The levels are varied, with both 2D and 3D perspective levels. As the 2D levels are not affected by the game's awful fixed camera view of its 3D counterparts, they are far more enjoyable. Each world has a set of puzzle mini games, all of which are very fun to play.

Super Lucky’s Tale is not a revolutionary platformer game or anything like that, but I recommend it to those who want to have a good time, as its colorful and optimistic world will surely provide happiness to the player's heart for around 8 hours.

Throughout the game i felt like i was being treated like i had the mindset of an 8 year old, acting like this is my first game i've ever played and it really takes away any joy i had in this game, where there is a couple good things. As i stated before, this game is really darn cute and charming with its characters and the level design is well made. The music is really good too. Unfortunately it falls short in the control area and the fact you move what seems like a snails pace. But if you ignore the easy difficulty and controls, this game is a pretty cute pick up and play game. It's included in game pass hence why i could play it, but i don't suggest you buy this for the 30 dollars it goes for. You can find way better games for that price. if you seem interested in it, go ahead Expand

You don't see many platform games in this style these days, especially on the Xbox One, so Super Lucky's Tale delivers something a little different. If you're feeling a little nostalgic for a platformer in a classic mold, the game will certainly help scratch that itch. It's also something that will be appealing to younger gamers, but the youngest ones may find it a little frustrating. Otherwise, you're safe taking a pass on this particular tale.
