Not a horrible game, but not a good one either. The game was obviously made on a PC budget and it shows in many, many ways. Still, there is some good in it for non hardcore scifi fans.

Pros: The galaxy, while sparse and boring is very large relative to the speed you can travel...so better to say it has the illusion of size, so there is a somewhat enjoyable exploration side. Combat
Not a horrible game, but not a good one either. The game was obviously made on a PC budget and it shows in many, many ways. Still, there is some good in it for non hardcore scifi fans.

    Pros:
The galaxy, while sparse and boring is very large relative to the speed you can travel...so better to say it has the illusion of size, so there is a somewhat enjoyable exploration side.

Combat is fun and allows you the option of fighting, having the crew/AI fight for you while you pilot, board and capture ships to keep or sell. Definitely the main point of this game and the only part done to good affect.

There is a trading/ economy in place that is dynamic on a very limited scale that is interesting for a few hours.

There are a lot of ships to peruse/ capture/ buy from your starting gunship all the way up to carriers. If you enjoy trying out a variety of vehicles this would be a plus, although most of the ships offer little difference from one another.

    Cons:
The campaign itself is horrible. Seriously, the voice acting is hands down the worst I have ever encountered....so, so bad. At the very least it is not lengthy or cumbersome, with the vast majority of the game spent in freeroam to level up. I can't quite express how bad the campaign is actually......travel 15 minutes to point A, here 3 lines of horrible voice acting a fly 5 minutes to point B to fight 2 ships.....freeroam to level up and repeat.

Freeroam, although better than the campaign as it offers more combat, has the same 4 missions repeated over and over and over....for a game built around freeroam you thin they could have come up with a little more variety.

Game stutters/ freezes for a few seconds while flying every time you cross into a new zone,,,,which happens every few minutes....more annoying than gamebreaking.

The world is 2D/ 3D bland.

Flying controls are bad.....right stick controls 360 view and left 360 movement....in space that means you are constantly disoriented.....thankfully there is a reset mode which you can push after every fight.

Starpoint Gemini is not a bad game. It’s not even really an average game, so long as you’re part of the small group that will get the most of it. But it is difficult to enjoy, difficult to learn; in short, it’s a niche title and there are glitches and boredom aplenty. This isn’t a great title by any metric except maybe the most important one: those that love it will be utterly engrossed.

A significant frame drop issue, flat storyline, and obsolete menus cause vexation, but only because they devalue what is an otherwise splendid adventure.

If you can look past the issues that we've raised in the review, can get past the somewhat steep £28 asking price and like space exploration, Starpoint Gemini 2 might be right up your space lane. It probably isn't going to drag many non-fans in, though.
