4 friggin maps and no single player campaign! Stunning graphics and sound but the content is really thin for a game with this price point. My 12 year old is even bored with it already. This was a money grab, put the words star wars on any old pos and it will sell. I expected much more from Disney and EA.

This game has been one of my biggest disappointments in 2015. There is a huge lack of content, and the game play just isn't that fun. Lots of people are saying that it's just a Battlefield re-skin, but sadly the game would be better if it was. It feels as if it wants to be both Battlefield and Battlefront, and because of that it fails at being either.

Am I ever glad my local Gamestop allowed me to swap this title with another $60 of my choice. This game is bad. Like most of the merchandise being pumped out in anticipation of the new movie, this game is no exception.

Am I ever glad my local Gamestop allowed me to swap this title with another $60 of my choice. This game is bad. Like most of the merchandise being pumped out in anticipation of the new movie, this game is no exception.

When I saw Dice was signed on to make this, I expected a great shooter. This was the bait. The game itself looks pretty, the game sounds fantastic, minus the character's voices. The game itself is simply not worth the $60 price tag.

First off, there is no single player campaign. None. There's a "survival" mode, which is a slow paced 15 wave game where you must fend off the worst AI controlled Bots in the Galaxy. There's a vehicle training mode, and a "Head to head" mode where you can duel heroes with 1 friend or against the same clunky AI.

Speaking of clunky, the vehicle controls and soldier movement is clunky and awful. Tie Fighters handle like a shopping cart, and alot of the ground environment requires you to jump over the smallest rocks/inclines, especially on the Endor map.

The actual combat is forgettable. If you encounter more than 1 enemy at any given time, unless you kill them with an explosive, you wont win, even if they're lined up. The reason being is the weapons you get, yes, all of them, have no penetration, like in other shooters like Call of Duty or Battlefield.

The spawn system is beyond awful. This was brought up in the beta, and the devs did nothing about it. I had times where I spawned (not on my team mate, mind you) and died within 3 seconds of spawning. I've also had enemies spawn with their backs to me. I should also point out that there's NOTHING to prevent enemies from sitting in your spawn, or even going behind it and attacking you as you spawn.

The shooting itself is very casual. Outside the Heavy Blasters, which are basically Light Machine Guns in any other shooter, no weapon has enough recoil to make a difference. The weapons really differ in range, fire rate, and damage. Most of these don't matter, because primary weapons all take atleast 2 shots to someone's head for a kill, 3-5 to the chest, and more for limbs.

The map choices aren't enough to keep you interested. They took iconic maps, like Hoth, Endor and Tattooine, and made 2 maps of eac, plus two for Mustaafar (sp?). That's 8 maps, that are actually small, unless on walker assault, where they actually allow you to play the entire levels as they should've done.

Heroes are obnoxious. Granted they're meant to be stronger than the typical trooper, the fact that it literally takes over 100 shots to kill one is insane. Coupled with the heroes' 1 hit kill abilities (Vader's Sabre toss, Leia's move that literally lets you 1 hit kill storm troopers, Luke's Sabre charge), they become frustrating to encounter. The Millennium Falcon and Slave I in the fighter mode are just as over powered, in terms of health and damage output.

Power ups (special items, heroes, Fighter/AT-ST controls) tend to spawn in the open, and most dangerous places. Should you manage to get your X-Wing power up, guess what, the tie fighters in the sky can literally shoot you down as you zone in with the fighter before you can even move. That's right. You can die before you can fire back, or even try to take evasive maneuvers.

The final icing on this cake is the DLC. $50 for the season pass. That's essentially buying another title. $50 for...what? Maybe 6 maps, new heroes (from episode 7), and more guns that are mediocre? No thanks.

As this game stands, I can NOT recommend it. There are plenty of other shooters that offer more to gamers than this title. I'm beyond thankful Gamestop let me return this.

But the Star Wars novelty only lasts a few hours, and then you're stuck with a pretty barebones, multiplayer-only shooter that doesn't do anything to differentiate itself apart from the IP.

I'm a raving Star Wars fanboy, so it does pain me a little bit to give this game bad marks. But once you get past the fact that it's pretty and that it's Star Wars, where is the substance? The progression system is fairly dull, customization is very slim compared to most competing shooters, and there is no single-player campaign to bolster the areas this game falls short in. Where is the hook that keeps you coming back? Having played this game for several hours, I can woefully say there isn't much to it.

I know it's tired and overdone to compare this game to the previous Battlefront games, since people have been doing so ever since EA and DICE released more info about this new one, but they are actually fair comparisons to make. There are less playable heroes, less maps, less planets, no Galactic Conquest, no space battles, no single-player campaign, no 4-player splitscreen modes, no prequel trilogy (you can hate on the prequels all you want, but at least the prequels gave you more content to play with)... and it's been an entire decade since the last game in the franchise came out!! It seems to me like we've traded depth of content for prettier visuals, and that's a damn shame.

This is the only AAA Star Wars game we've gotten since LucasArts was shut down years ago, so it was hard not to get hyped over this one. But once you play Battlefront for about 10 hours or so and the nostalgia factor wears off, the game runs out of new things to show you, and it starts to become apparent that Battlefront could've been so much better had EA and DICE not rushed it out to coincide with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. My advice: wait for a sale on this one. $60 is a hefty price tag to pay for a game that, apart from its polished presentation, falls woefully short of its predecessors.

    "The EA Strikes Again"

Another example of a big name company building a fantastic platform then stripping the final product down to bare bones so they can scalp the complete experience to us through later DLC's. Imagine a kindergartener being given a 64 count box of new crayons. Now watch them open the box only to find the yellows and pinks included. That pretty much sums up the deal

This game lacks all of that. There is no skill in this game for shooting or in fighter. Holding down the trigger to lock on and being unable to shake off an enemy tie fighter cuz he brakes and just watches you flail about trying to shake him off is bull **** The hero ships are even worse having 3 fighters tailing the falcon and it just flying with out a care in the world is stupid, there have been matchs i have played where a player only dies once and thats cuz he was in the hero ship the whole time and can be bought down at all cuz they have so much more health.

This game had so much potential but has been let down by far too many issues.

The biggest let down is the volume of content. EA chose not to include a single player story line. Granted, the original Battlefront games didn't have the most in depth story modes, but they were there for when you didn't want to go up against other players. Making the decision not to include story mode even worse is the fact that there actually isn't that much content in the game. Sure, there are quite a few different game modes, but they're on the same small handful of maps. Which get boring very fast.

The main battle mode, Supremacy, loosely follows on from the the original Battlefront, but taking over command points no longer gives a team any form of tactical advantage like it did in the originals. Gone are the days when taking over a command point actually meant you were weakening the other side.

Further to that, most of the objectives don't have any real effect in the game. If you shoot down shuttles in squadron mode (or protect them) you get no bonus to the team score. This means everyone will ignore the objectives as staying alive is more important. this kills a lot of the immersion that objective based play can provide.

In a very surprising move, EA has removed the concept of character classes. Gone are the snipers, heavy weapons officers and pilots. Instead, EA has chosen a one size fits all approach where any soldier can choose any unlocked weapon, and visual differences are completely cosmetic. Instead of making the characters more exciting and interesting to play it makes the characters become more and more dull with each play. Also, speaking of cosmetic changes, stormtroopers can play without their iconic helmets. Whilst only a cosmetic change, it seriously kills the immersion of fighting against the faceless machine that is the Empire.

EA has also removed vehicle spawn points. There are plenty of vehicles sitting in the levels, you just can't get in them. Instead, vehicles are random pickups that when activated make your character fade from the battlefield and appear in the vehicle. I can't begin to describe how much this grates on my nerves. It introduces an element of luck that can seriously sway the tide of the battle. If your team isn't lucky with the vehicle drops (and it's happened to my team a number of times) then your team is at a huge disadvantage.

Heroes, like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, are likewise randomly dropped. And likewise, it can hurt your team's chances when they just don't drop.

The introduction of pure fighter mode interested me. Until I played it. The control system is so incredibly simplified to the point of stupidity. Instead of handling like a fighter should it handles like a car that can go up and down. The fighters also turn so sharply that all believability is left at the game lobby. The sharpness of the turns means that instead of you skilfully lining up your target to kill them you just point your ship in the general direction of your target and wait for target lock to kick in. As with ground mode, there are two heroes that can be picked up but thankfully these drop frequently.

Apart from pretty graphics and the fact that it's Star Wars this game has very little going for it. Mindless battle after battle with no endgame in sight gets tiring, plus the lack of content that EA has promised to fill after you pay for DLC leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. It's such a shame that Battlefront 2, a game that's 10 years old, is better than this one. EA has released The Phantom Menace of the Star Wars games.

This means that genuinely cool planets and heroes can't be included because DICE and EA have either limited themselves or been limited by Disney.

Gunplay is bland, with little to no recoil. Vehicles are clunky and hard to control on some maps (of which there are disappointingly few), and there are only three heroes per faction. Overall, I am disappointed by this game.

So all you see is a few multiplayer variations. Some of which are very similar and provide very few new experiences. Instead of a story mode they chose to include a survival gametype. This simply does not make up for not having an adequate single player experience. The gameplay is beautiful, but without anything to keep you hooked, its' value is basically neutralized. Star Wars Battlefront is a pathetic attempt to recreate the glorious original Battlefront games that have now been out for years. Fans have now been for 10 years and what they get is a few hours of intense gameplay with almost no replay value. This game may be worth its' value in about 4 or 5 months when it costs $25, until then, save your money.

The multiplayer might be fun for a brief amount of time, but the lack of guns and maps essentially ruins the replay value a multiplayer-based game should ultimately have, and is therefore worthless. I am just in awe at the final product and how underwhelming and insulting it is to those who paid for this abomination. Expand

Beautiful game! Beautiful sound! Beautiful score! Beautiful animation! Beautiful gameplay! But the lack of content makes this a very ugly game indeed... So, it looks great and plays well. And if you're a Star Wars fan then you're definitely going to feel A LOT of nostalgia. Go buy it if Star Wars means more to you than your wife and kids or if you've got some money to blow. But if you're a pragmatic spender like me then wait for a discount or until they add more content. Hopefully they have a GOTY edition or something after a while.

As someone who grow up on the Battlefront series I can't even express it how disappointed I am. As Yoda would say, DICE is a great developer, but wise it is not.

Honestly I am shocked by the whole game. It feels like a generic free to play shooter packed in a star wars costume. Like DICE and EA would say something like this: "It doesn't matter guys...just give them great graphics and star wars music. (just see the other reviews. Everyone is praising it because omg, it has star wars music as I play in it, oh I am in a so great star wars mood)
There are not even space battles, or singleplayer (A very weak survival mode, where the aim should be the every single round is much more and more difficult, here from round 7 almost every single round is the same is not singleplayer. And also be honest to yourself: How hard would it be for DICE, to make a Battlefront like single player mode, where you would be able to fight against the computer on the planets chronologically according to the movies, with cutscenes from the movies.), no classes, (why would we work on another classes, they will buy it anyway.), infinite ammo and gernades? What??

This brings me to the gameplay. I was utterly shocked by it. I won't even speak by the horrible spawning system. So the game is battlefront. They advertise the whole game as a chance to be a part of the star wars universe, and to live the battles. Well, maybe I was wrong, but I never seen for example floating blue PICKUPS in the movies. You want a rocket launcher because we were too lazy to create a demolition class? Go and get a PICKUP. You want to enter a vehicle for a limited time in a battlefront game ? (Even to write this question down was painful to write down) Go and get a PICKUP. Thanks DICE. So.....realistic, like in the movies. I just imagined Admiral Ackbar: "Soldiers. This is a very important battle. We won't provide you weapons or vehicles. There are magical pickups on the battlefield. Just take them, and you will get a vehicle or new weapons for a several ammount of time. Seriously as a Star wars Fan I want to cry.

Just for the comparision imagine the good old Battlefield 2 and this at the battle of Hoth. In Battlefield 2 troopers were running to the field, while the pilots entered their speeders to battle against the walkers. just like in the movies, you were able to jump in a speeder, and while your buddy was piloting, you needed to aim with the cable launcher.
Here: Go and shoot. Get a pickup if you are lucky, because the other players want it too.
    Disgusting.

Okay. But maybe I was wrong. There are still aerial battles. This can turn good. A good old fashioned fight with my favourite x-wing. Then I was utterly shocked that DICE was able to ruin this too. First of all, according to the star wars lore, for example x wings had shields, TIE fighters not, but they were much faster. Here, you can switch on your shield for a few seconds, then you have to wait for a countdown. What??? Also Tie fighters can be fast yeah, if you activate a boost as a SKILL. After that wait for the countdown....
Also it is like Titenfall in the air. 70% of the enemy vehicles are bots. Why??
I am not a game developer. But maybe yeah, it is because of the balance (while I am completely sure, that because of the balance the basic theme - x wings - slow with shields, tie fighters - fast with no shields would be enough.) Okay. But making evasive manouvers as a skill, and you need to wait to make evasive manouvers again is totally ridiculous. And again the pick ups. You are fighting with the millenium falcon for five minutes now. Here is it. You can change history. You can kill Han Solo! He needs only a few laser hits, and no more millenium falcon. Then your opponet flies into a big blue pickup, and his ship is suddenly repaired. sigh........ so real. Like in the movies yeah?
Admiral Ackbar: Pilots! This is a very important battle! But be reminded, you can't make evasive manouvers you have to wait for a countdown, so please die. Also if you are in trouble, just go and get a blue floating pick up. It will magically repair your ship.

This game is a scam for the star wars fans around the world. Don't buy it, especially if you loved the old SW: Battlefront games. November was too good with many other game tittles, don't waste your money on this. Graphics are fine yeah (This is why I give a 1), everything else feels like a cheap free to play shooter with a star wars theme.

120$ to enjoy full game. DLC have more content than released game. I bought BF2, BF3, BFBC, BFBC2, BF4 ... NOT this time, enough for me EA, I'm not going to buy this game right now... Maybe 1 year later for 29,99 full + DLC.

The issue is that this game plays it safe and doesn't offer anything new in its core shooting gameplay. It ignores progress made in the genre and that's most upsetting. Casual players will have a blast but it really isn't for the rest of us in my opinion.

Multiplayer shooter designed primarily for Star Wars fans. Simpler than its genre competitors it is, but it’s open to players of all kinds - at the same time it is not for everyone because of that “anyone can play” approach. [Issue #259]

As close as you'll get to getting your childhood back. Dig through the incredible production values and you'll find a serviceable shooter, but one with a potentially terminal lack of content. [Jan 2016, p.73]
