Just like Titanfall or vanilla Destiny, some of the pieces here are fantastic. But the content leaves something to be desired. If you have a limited budget, spend your $60 on a game that deserves it - like Fallout 4 or Witcher 3.

Oh there are some very big flaws with the game, but these flaws do not prevent it from being incredibly fun in short bursts of time. Grenade spawn is a massive issue and there are some imbalanced weapons, making it very newbie unfriendly... But all in all, its pretty fun.

Those wanting a game reminiscent of the older Battlefront titles are going to be disappointed. Same for those looking for a content rich experience. However people just looking for some Star Wars fun can find an enjoyable experience here. They just have to be willing to put up with some less than satisfactory aspects.

There's no single-player campaign. There is single-player, offline content, but it all just boils down to bot matches and tutorials. There are some bonus objectives to tackle in these modes, but the only one really worth spending any time with is the survival mode. Unfortunately it too has some issues. For one there are only four maps. It also limits the mode to only two players. It's decent, but the AI isn't the greatest and honestly it lacks the punch survival modes have in other games.

But by far the most disappointing part of the meager single-player offerings are that they show potential for what could have been an at least decent campaign. DICE nailed the universe. This game really does feel like Star Wars. Thee graphics and sound are both stellar. Combine those elements with some sharper AI, a solid plot, and decent structure and there could have been a campaign worth talking about. Sadly there isn't.

With the offline content being so lackluster this is definitely a multiplayer focused game. Thankfully it mostly succeeds there. However the more picky out there will still find plenty of gripes. It isn't exactly bursting at the seams with content. More maps at launch would have been appreciated as would have some more modes. I personally view what's here as at the very least a decent amount of content. The real sting about this though comes from the $50 season pass. It's like EA wants us to pay almost double for a more complete experience. Kind of a low move.

Another potential issue comes from the gameplay itself. Star Wars is a huge property. One that has attracted fans from every walk of life. In order to make a game that is accessible to as many of these fans as possible, it has been dumbed down in some ways from your average shooter. Skill still trumps all, but no matter what your gaming experience you can still feel at least a little proud of yourself when matches end. It's not too bad. The only real issue I have with it is the lack of voice chat. Without it there really isn't any strategizing going on outside of party chat with your friends. Some modes could benefit from it.

Yet for all of Battlefront's issues I still find myself having fun with it. That's because it feels like Star Wars. Blasting my way through familiar locations, getting hero power ups, and playing fun modes like Walker Assault make it an enjoyable enough an experience to recommend for most Star Wars fans. Even with most of the modes just being standard to the average FPS, the Star Wars skin keeps me entertained. Perhaps it's better off as a rental at first, but I think Star Wars fans just looking for some multiplayer fun are going to find something to enjoy here regardless of faults.

    I give the game a 7.5/10

Looks great. Sounds great. Plays great. However there aren't enough maps. There's no single player campaign. The gameplay is unoriginal. There is too much DLC, almost all of which should have been shipped with the main game. A classic "wait until the price comes down" purchase.

If you come into Battlefront with the competitive mindset, you're going to be let down. Instead, come into the game knowing it's a very casual game, meant to jump in and just have fun.

There are some unlocks, like extra weapons, figurines and cards. Cards can be equipped and be used as secondary weapons and can be used as many times as you like, within the cool-down time limit. The gunplay is very easy to get the hang of, thanks to the no recoil style gameplay. Some of the problems that plague this game, from my experience really hurt the overall fun factor for me. Multiple times as you're spawning in, you'll get spawned near a group of enemies or vehicles. You'll constantly also receive "Critical Kill Assists Counts As 100", a lot. The flight controls are very wonky, to say the least. Going from piloting jets in Battlefield to flying in Battlefront, felt horrendous and not the least bit fun.

In closing, Battlefront has some great fun behind it, but the fun gets old, as the gameplay becomes stale, thanks to hardly any depth to it and the low map count, the base game includes. An actual price point this game should be, would be about $40. I don't see enough content to warrant an actual normal $60 price tag.

Star Wars Battlefront lacks one key element: longevity. When I started, I loved absolutely every second of it. It made me feel like I was truly in Star Wars. However, the more I played, the more I noticed how paper-thin the gameplay became, which is very unfortunate.

The gameplay is fast paced and **** fun as hell and it is a mix of Battlefield, Battlefront 2 and Call of duty (Some may consider that a bad thing. But **** you). Playing as the heroes is fun but you can easily fun a pick up and you die rather easily, this makes it so you don't feel as powerful as you really should feel when playing as a sith lord. The fighter squadron mode for me is really **** fun. Dogfights are intense and make me feel like i'm actually in the movies when i'm piloting an x-wing. There are some game modes that I love. Droid run is very tactical and team based but to win the mode you have to have the msot droids at the end of the match so if your team had all of the droids for the whole match and then the other team swoop in at the last second you feel very cheated. Walker Assault is great but is slightly one sided. Supremacy is fun. And heroes vs villains is also great. Customization needs to be improved but it is still a nice feature. The star card system is great and the weapons even though there is a sufficient amount they all seem to feel the same when using them. Survival is good but i'm not a huge fun of modes like that so I didn't enjoy it that much. That being said if you like horde modes you will love this. Playing this game made me feel like a kid again as I flew through the sky in an x-wing and took to the battlefield as Luke Skywalker and it brang back some memories I had when playing Battlefront 2 when I was a kid 8 years ago.

But then there is the issues with the game. There is no campaign for starters which is a real bummer. This means that there is no new original interesting story and there is nothing to fall back on after playing the riveting multiplayer for a long time. There is also no space battles or galactic conquest, which kind of sucks seems as they were great in Battlefront 2. And then there is EA, slapping their massive **** dick all over the players faces until they ejaculate a season pass on to the players while begging them for money. I may have gone a bit far with that but you get my point. The **** season pass. Which most likely has all the missing content in. And they are going to make everyone pay for it because **** you we're corporate dick faces who hate the consumer but love their money. But who knows the DLC could actually have loads of content in. But it most likely won't. Also after about a month and leading up to the new movie Star Wars Battlefront will probably get tiresome and will disappear from my mind until five months later when I remember it actually exists and start playing all over again and falling in love with it all over again.

Overall the game is fun, addictive, immersive and for a while is **** great. But in theory it is a disappointment. Even though the gameplay is great it lacks content. No campaign or innovative modes. At the moment it is one of the most fun shooters I have played in a while and the added Star Wars theme makes it even better. But at full price it can **** off. Because most of the game will be added through DLC. 7.5/10

As far as shooters go, this is nothing special or innovative. DICE even left out a few essential that feel necessary in modern shooters, namely vaulting over low walls/climbing up on ledges, and for some reason you come to a complete halt when trying to melee. That being said, its freaking star wars! I've logged ~12 hours on the game and i still get giddy fighting on a battlefield with AT-ATs rampantly firing everywhere as TIE Fighters and X-Wings dog fight in the sky. While most of the game types are pretty standard for typical shooters, being able to play them while in the Star Wars universe is still awesome. The maps are gorgeous, and while some of the larger game types like Walker Assault and Supremacy are limited to only 4 maps at the moment, the Jakku DLC will add more content in the coming weeks, as well as future free and paid DLC. While it kinda sucks that right now, Battlefront IS a little light, i think that over time, it will become one of the most content heavy games out there. Expand

The decision whether you should play this game or not ultimately comes down to a small selection of questions:

Do you prefer your shooters to be light on complexity, but still be fun to play in small doses? Are you a huge Star Wars fan? Is a highly intensive graphical experience important to you? Are you someone who is busy and can't invest a lot of time when playing a game?

Are you a huge Star Wars fan?

Is a highly intensive graphical experience important to you?

Are you someone who is busy and can't invest a lot of time when playing a game?

Are you someone who is only concerned with multiplayer competitive games?

If you answered yes to all of these questions, then you should buy Battlefront. If you answered yes to some of the questions, but not all, give it a rent. You'll find out pretty quickly whether this game is a title you want to invest an actual purchase towards.

I'm really liking this game so far, while others have used its simplicity as a negative against it, I love the arcade-y, simplistic feel. I just jump in a game, have fun no matter the outcome, and not feel like I have to invest over a hour for a singe match.

The biggest detraction for the game is it feels like a seminal title, that you should wait for next year when they can really expand upon their initial offering. There's a base here for a really great game, it just falls short of great and is pretty good. So if you're a Star Wars fan looking for a great Star Wars experience, and doesn't mind playing a pretty good but not great game, then give it a shot.

The production of the game is absolutely amazing, the graphics are fantastic as is the sound. The servers also seem to be holding up. A top top quality game on the production front.

The gameplay took a little getting used. It felt a little slower than COD or Battlefield, and I feel it takes longer to dispatch your enemy with the early weapons. It is also noticible how different the kill to death ratio is to other shooters. I havent noticed it being any greater than 2:1 at the top, although I know its early days. That said the bottom of the table still consists of those on a 1:5-10. So this game is more equitable and accessible, but dont get me wrong it is still a challenge. All in, the gameplay isnt bad, its just slightly different. As for the maps, the ones we have are pretty good although I still need some time with them. The game modes are really good and varied, no issues on that from me. I come to battlefront for big battles and supremacy and walker assault deliver this well. the other modes wont be my go to modes but having tried all out for a couple of games each they will certainly be a good distraction.

Now on to the thorny issue of lifespan. it is a relative question. Having come off 200 hours on Witcher should I expect the same from a FPS for the same price? I dont think anyone would but it does make you think about what is reasonable for my £40. I suppose the fairest way to look at this is to compare to other FPS. you undoubtedly get more with the other franchises, but I honestly dont think you get a massive amount more. Had the battle of Jakku been included in the off this would bring the maps to 14.... that isnt too bad! There is no single player campaign, which I would really have loved and the game is poorer for its ommission.

That said having read the user reviews on this site I had a real crisis. I love Star Wars but I hate being ripped off. After a lot of thought I just went for it, and when I got it home I loaded it up not expecting much. You can control Vader whilst the game installed and this did nothing to allay my fears the controls felt clunky and it went on far too long. But, when I actually got in I started with the solo tasks to try and get used to the pace of the game. I was pleasantly surprised (having expected the worst) with the solo elements, nothing particularly special and pretty limited, but the way some talk of this game you dont expect any more than a few multiplayer maps.

This is a good game, production is amazing, gameplay is good but the lifespan is lacking a bit (not as much as some say). I have spent 10 hours on it and still want more. I will probably hit 30 to 40 hours on this with no problem. This is a really good and fun game and I dont believe is worth any less than a 7. It has the potential to be great with some extensive DLC but right now it isnt there.

Did I feel ripped off for my £40? No, its worth every penny. Not a great but it is a good game. 7/10

I have played Star Wars Battlefront for about 15 hours now. After spending my time with the game, I have established a final opinion on it. For this review, I will be splitting the content up into 5 different categories: Graphics, Sound, Controls, Lasting Appeal, and Server Reliability. Lets start with how this game is presented.

Star wars Battlefront is a breathtaking game since the second its booted up. Once spawned into a map, you will be treated to a superb array of detail and nods to the films and novels. Ewoks can be seen roaming around Endor, and Hoth contains some indoor pathways identical to the movies. And this is before it all gets destroyed. Once the battle starts, battlefront becomes one of the best looking games that I've seen. Ever. AtAt's lurk over the field and ships fly above. There is never a quiet moment in this game I have no complaints about the overall presentation of the game. I would rate it a 10 out of 10.

Next up there is sound. Most effect sound great, in fact, almost all of them do.There's nothing more satisfying then hearing a thermal imploder detonate 10 feet away. However, it's the soundtrack that really bothers me. It sounds good, but it honestly just becomes an annoyance after a while. I found myself playing with the soundtrack off, because it just doesn't match. I would give the sound a 10 out of 10, assuming the soundtrack is down or off.

The controls in this game are very good too. In this game there are "cards" with different weapons, perks, items, etc available for use. They are assigned to the left and right bumpers. The gameplay works, but it's not very innovative, and can get pretty boring after the first 10 hours. 6/10

Next there is lasting appeal. This is where Battlefront struggles. The gameplay had my jaw hanging from the first match, but the majority of it wars off. However, there's nothing more badass then throwing sabers at people with vader, or hulking on the field in a huge AtAt. 6/10

The servers didn't give me a huge problem, but they were a little annoying at times. he game would stop moving at points just because the server was "bad", when Gears of War worked just fine 10 minutes later. Also, you will frequently find yourself spawning into enemy fire. It's extremely annoying. 4/10

All in all, this is a good, but not great game. The game lacks content, but makes up for it in pure awesomeness with what it has.

Despite the currently unfavorable reviews, this is truly not a terrible game. I think people should understand 2 things when buying this game, which in my opinion are the two big negatives that people are really upset about:

    1) This is not going to be the same experience you had with the previous battlefront games 10 years ago. Quit simply, this game currently does not play like the previous ones did. There is no classic 'conquest' mode to it-while 'supremacy' is similar, the way its set up causes the game to not flow like the old battlefront did at all. There is no strategy really in terms of attacking-no flanking, nothing like that. In supremacy (which seems to be the mode most people play) at any one time there is at most 2 bases in play-they will be bases that are right next to each other, so there is a constant 'front line' effect (where everybody is fighting in the same spot), which essentially rules out any real tactics that would be involved. I think most people who were very excited for this game to come out were people who previously played this game and wanted it to essentially be like the older games with larger maps, more maps, and better graphics. You won't get that, this will be an overall different FPS experience. The air combat seems to be pretty bad. I prefer to run around and shoot as opposed to flying an x-wing or whatever, however even I noticed that the flying is pretty bad. I would also say that currently the game modes that involve 'heroes' are not so fun. For Battlefront 2, the Mos Eisley hero fight was epic fun. It's not quite the same on this.

    2) EA, in classic style, is trying to get as much money out of this as they can. In doing so, the game that is currently on the market is incomplete. That is the main reason this game is getting bad reviews. In a year this game will be a 9/10. However, the game that is currently on the market only has maps on 4 planets; Hoth, Endor, Tatooine and Sullust (a world thats important in the expanded universe of star wars but never in the movies). There are only currently 6 heroes-Luke, Vader, Leia, Jango Fett, the Emporer and Han Solo. When you consider that the previous game (which came out 10 years ago) had more hero options-thats quite annoying. There seems to be a lack of game modes, but again, the lack of game modes, heroes, and maps will all be resolved when more expansions come out. However, you will end up paying anywhere from $50-$80 for these expansions, which is bad and we as a gaming community should not support these practices.

While I've ranted a bit about the negatives, it's time for some good things about this game. The graphics are stunning. Probably the best I've seen in a FPS ever. Also, the gameplay is incredibly smooth. I've experienced no lag, no servers crashing, nothing of the sort, even once. I personally find the controls intuitive and once you get the hang of the style of this game, I find myself generally being one of the top 3-4 players each match, having an absolute blast jumping around in my jet pack, using my ion shots to blow up turrets or piss of people who are in vehicles. The game can be great, mindless fun. While I've read some reviews that rip on the upgrades and customization-I think those are actually pretty good. You have a dozen guns to choose from, you can purchase like 100 different outfits your character (depending on level), and they added an option where you can essentially have a special ability (For me I shoot ion bullets) which adds another element to the game completely. The maps that are there are good, which gives me faith that newer ones that come out will be good as well. You can also run around and pick up upgrades, which adds another element. You never know if that grenade that landed next to you is just a thermal detonator or thermal imploder, or whether you are being locked by a homing shot or an infantry turret.

If you will only be satisfied with this new Battlefront if it plays like the previous ones, I would say do not purchase. It will not be with your time or disappointment that this is a different game. I would also say that if money is an issue for you at all that I would wait a year or so to purchase. All of the expansions will probably be on a single disc that will be only $60 by then. However, if you have an open mind (sounds kinda lame I know), and simply love fun, first person shooters I say this is a decent purchase. You absolutely will enjoy playing this game, the graphics are stunning, the gameplay is incredibly smooth, the soundtrack is great, you will feel like you are in the world of star wars. However, shame on EA (or maybe us) for obviously using the Battlefront franchise to take as much money from people as possible. I think if they waited a little bit and released a complete version of this game, the sheer volume of people purchasing it would have given them more profit than the current state of people purchasing it, and then paying for upgrades.

While there ary things that need to be improved and added, I enjoyed it. The gameplay is fabulous, the sound feels like star wars. The graphics are outstanding, with environment, character, and everything else looking like star wars. The game modes are fun, but some feel familiar with each other. I wish there was a campaign like the other two in the series.

Star Wars battlefront does not deserve its bad rap of recent its genuinely a fun multiplayer game that feels like a star wars game like your in the star wars universe but that does not excuse it for the lack of maps. Game modes are simple enough but only 4 I would recommend these are walker assault, supremacy and turning point. I give it a 7 its fun and feels like a star wars game goodStar Wars battlefront does not deserve its bad rap of recent its genuinely a fun multiplayer game that feels like a star wars game like your in the star wars universe but that does not excuse it for the lack of maps. The good- Amazing graphics, the sounds and feel of the Star Wars universe.

The Bad- No campaign, only 5 maps, too repetitive.

I enjoy the game, I wish there was a campaign. It's fun, but gets old.

Star Wars Battlefront is a great on line player game. The graphics are incredible and the gameplay is fun and exciting. The chance to use all the iconic weapons and vehicles is amazing and is the strong point of this game. The game lacks and earned my rating of 7 was due to no campaign/story mode. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In my opinion a great overall game. But honestly they left out some really classic details from previous Star Wars Battlefront games 1 and 2. For example, Galactic Conquest, split screen for walker assault, more Jedi and Sith characters for the epic Jedi vs Sith battles, and a Command Post objective based game styles with garrison mechanic enforced. And lets not forget epic space battles that are half the reason why star wars is awesome! The movies have some of their best scenes in space. From the first destruction of the death star, to Anakins youthful victory of the destruction of the Trade Federation command ship. Lets not forget Anakin and Obiwan flying their way to save Chancellor Palpetine/ AKA the emperor, or aka Darth Sidious. Star Wars Battlefront 2 gave us such a cool mind blowing experience when they introduced space battles and Jedi battles. I mean playing as Darth Maul is just awesome!

Side note* Heroes, AKA Jedi, and Sith, should be able to command and pilot vehicles. Luke and Anakin/Darth Vader are 2 of the greatest pilots of all time! Why not put Darth Vader in a Tie fighter with increased health bonus and damage? Lets go above and beyond here guys!

The director said he wanted to focus more on planetary epic battles. Okay very cool I am down with that. But where is the amazing battles from the clone wars and Naboo? Oh and that includes Kashyyyk! Oh but he said more focused on the older movies. Playing as a droideka is one of the coolest things I remember in Conquest and command posts. Rolling around as a ball of destruction being able to deploy a shield cover when deemed necessary was very convenient.

One of the lasts points I think I will make is the lack of maps and depth in this game. Simplicity is important, but this seems to be a dumb downed version to what would have been the completion of the Star Wars Battlefront trilogy. This game was hyped for 10 years and had some of the worst reviews. I mean how do you go from Game of the Year to "Star Wars Battlefront EA" Don't get me started on EA right now. Come on EA turn this Millennium Falcon around in the right direction! This isn't Call of Freaking Duty. This is Star Wars Battlefront 3.

I know this review has been mostly negatives if in fact all negatives. Don't get me wrong the game is very fun and addicting to play. However I haven't touched the game in almost a month and can find other fun games to pass the time. This game is Battlefield with a modded star wars skin is all. Lets get some free updates and make the dlc even better!

With limited content and an average shooter gameplay, the game is only held up by its beautiful graphics and sound FX. Truly the biggest disappointment of 2015.

The issue is that this game plays it safe and doesn't offer anything new in its core shooting gameplay. It ignores progress made in the genre and that's most upsetting. Casual players will have a blast but it really isn't for the rest of us in my opinion.

Multiplayer shooter designed primarily for Star Wars fans. Simpler than its genre competitors it is, but it’s open to players of all kinds - at the same time it is not for everyone because of that “anyone can play” approach. [Issue #259]

As close as you'll get to getting your childhood back. Dig through the incredible production values and you'll find a serviceable shooter, but one with a potentially terminal lack of content. [Jan 2016, p.73]
