That should only mean removing most of the blood and cursing, (right?) which is FINE! Since reading some of the reviews, I cannot help but notice many user reviews giving unnecessarily high praise to this game, and I believe at some point a blithering fool somewhere mentioned that you cannot compare this title to the games that came before it...? Yes, you CAN and SHOULD compare it to the originals, or any good game for that matter, because they did it RIGHT. Just because something is on next-gen hardware, why would you not compare it to its predecessor?

I remember Star Ware Battlefront 2 for the PlayStation 2, and as a decade later follow up to that game, I am not seeing any innovation whatsoever. In fact, I am so disappointed by the mistakes with this game that I decided to write a review of it.

So, first off, I have a bias toward EA, so if that is a factor for you, go ahead and skip this review. Electronic Arts no longer cares what you want. You know what they do care about? They care about money. They don't give one red cent about you or your experience except for what you might say about their game that might reduce sales. Unless you are a professional blogger or have a popular YouTube channel, they could care less about you, me, or our opinions. Here we go:

Plot: cannot really muck with this since it's LucasFilm's property (now Disney), but I am sure they (EA) would have found a way had there been an opportunity.

Voice acting: this is not terrible. Darth Vader was my only real complaint. He sounds like some white guy who is upset that someone ate his cereal. He does not have the deep, rich voice of James Earl Jones to be sure. I noticed a few other slight disappointments but nothing huge.

Sound: The lasers shooting, and explosions galore have great sound quality, and the team did a magnificent job of portraying the Star Wars vehicles and environments.

Gameplay: So, this is where it all works, or it doesn't. After playing for several hours yesterday, I hate it less than initially expected, but even sardonic praise is better than what I would have said before the time I spent with it last night. The tutorials were adequate but not fun, which is a segue into the whole experience. The only portion of the game that offers any fun is the multiplayer aspects, even if they are sub-par. I thought that DICE worked on this project, so where were they when it came to laying out the controls and gameplay? How many shooters are under your belt?? The controls do not utilize the full feature-set offered by the DualShock 4 controller by any stretch of the imagination. Also, I would like to know who the brainchild was behind the cards power-ups. That was criminal to do, for the sake of what... innovation? That was the best EA and DICE could produce was it?

Graphics: Magnificent graphics for a terribly mediocre follow-up to one of the greatest sagas of all time.

I should say thank you to EA and to DICE for ruining one of the most anticipated games for me. You both should be commended for your stupidity, and the fanboys are clearly right there on the bandwagon with you, dishing out nines and tens like poorly-executed blowjobs. If it wasn't for the brainless masses, we might still receive games worth playing from huge studios like EA.

If you want a good game, try Fallout 4. It might have some bugs, but at least it is exhilarating to play and innovate utilizing ideas from its predecessor! Go figure.

This game got a lot of hate but I found it tons of fun. Of course, it is missing some things like a campaign and continual updates, but otherwise the multiplayer plays really nicely. My favorite game mode is Cargo, and I must have played a hundred hours of it. I just love the atmosphere, gunplay, and abilities in this game. Much better than its sequel IMO.

It feels more like a playable teaser for a game than a full game. There simply isn't enough content to justify it's $60 price tag. From the lack of a singleplayer to a very limited multiplayer mode, the game feels extremely bare bones. It's a shame because it looks, sounds, and feels amazing! It's all squandered by a lack of anything to do with these amazing elements.

The game looked and played like a Star Wars movie except for the key part of well a reason for everything happening. FIrst person shooters are a dime a dozen and the best seem to find a way to be better ... this just had Star Wars trappings , a very very shiny set of them. But in the end it was not enough for me to want to spend hours in a galaxy far far away.

I enjoy it a lot, but it has problems. The graphics are amazing, they look almost real! The gameplay was unique, space battles are good, but playing land battles as heroes and villains was amazing! Also, online works great. Now on to the bad parts, no story, slow loading times, and a lot of DLC. Those are big problems, but the game is fun overall.

+ The performance of this game is honestly pretty good
+ for the low amount of players that play the game the que time is actually pretty low.

    +- has a flight system

    - Getting Character Customization takes a too long time if you think about the fact that you have every Star Cards at the level 20 (level 39 toke me 66 hours to reach). Everything else is being unlocked like every 5-10 levels (the highest unlockable thing is level 100)
    - There arent that many weapons to collect and most of the Star Cards (Powerups like a jet pack that you get in your loadout and can use for an example every 10seconds) are never picked because mostly you just have your healing grenade and your jetpack equiped. Without you will have a much harder time
    - The weapons are all so boring and it feels like the bigger the gun the worse it is. The most overpowered weapons are mostly boring to play.
    - The flightsystem is totaly unbalanced like on the one side they have a infinitive shield that you cant destroy normaly and you need to hope that the rocket that you can shoot every 10 seconds lands if not you are propably dead by another ship on the enemy team. And as I said the shield is only on one side. This completly ruined the whole flight system.

I expect from the upcomming Battlefront much and please dont disappoint me EA.

6/10 For the price of 9.99$ I paid for this its totaly okay. I even bought the Season Pass for another 20$ and im satisfied with it.

Perhaps the best thing about it is how it faithfully replicates the battles from the original "Star Wars" trilogy. Its top notch presentation perfectly captures the look and feel of the classic films. While the game does not feature a story mode, it does include maps and modes that can be played online and off. Unfortunately for a DICE game, it is lacking in depth. There is none of the strategy or customization that is normally included in an online shooter. While the modes from "Battlefield" have been somewhat carried into this game, they've been streamlined to a tee. It's as if DICE wanted to make a shooter for Star Wars fans who don't necessarily play them.

For the record, "Battlefront" does include 14 maps, 10 multiplayer modes, 5 tutorial missions and two single player skirmishes (which can also be played with a partner). However, it's a mixed bag of good and mediocre modes. "Supremacy" and "Walker Assault" are lengthy 40-player matches that are the game's best. They play out similar to "Conquest" and "Rush" from "Battlefield". "Blast" is team deathmatch, "Drop Zone" is pretty much "Domination" from "Call of Duty", while "Battles" plays out like "Kill Confirmed" also from COD. "Hero vs. Villains" and "Hero Hunt" both feature famous SW characters; the former is a deathmatch, while the latter places one hero against five Imperial soldiers. "Droid Run" is basically "King of the Hill" and "Cargo" is a take on "Capture the Flag". Lastly, "Survival" is a horde mode with 15 rounds of Imperial attacks. Unfortunately, I've never played "Flight Squadron" since the flying vehicles are difficult to maneuver.

Ultimately, "Star Wars: Battlefront" is a fun, if "minimal" online shooter. Fans should enjoy unlocking all of the iconic weapons, skins and artwork. Since its launch, DICE has updated the game with some free content which should keep it from getting too stale for those who don't own the Season Pass. And while the game lacks the content and tactical strategy of DICE's superior "Battlefield" titles, it can still provide some solid thrills. I'd rank it with a 7.2 out of 10

The game does not fail to deliver stunning recreations of Star Wars characters, vehicles and landscapes, but that is where the praise ends. The first thing that you will notice right away is the lack of actual content. There is no story mode, only a few missions that have no story line at all and provide very little entertainment. The multiplayer continues to disappoint with very few maps. Within just two days I felt like I had played every map 30 too many times.

The game play, it feels like someone told them "Don't stray too far away from the original games" and they went ahead and just used the same engine. The game practically BEGS you to play in the 3rd person by making the field of vision for 3rd person style much better than 1st person. This is very disappointing due to how good the game looks and feels in the 1st person. It is such a disadvantage to play in the first person it just doesn't feel worth it.

The flying vehicles like the x-wings and tie fighters could not be more clunky and hard to fly. Good luck flying around without crashing kamikazee style let alone getting any kills. There may be three to five of the flying vehicle tokens on the ground at one time because no one wants to use them.

The hero tokens maybe the coolest part of the game but none the less are still very clunky themselves. One would think being a light saber wielding Jedi would be more fun than it is but running around eating blaster bullets because your attacks are so awkward is not fun at all.

The credit system is okay but the credits feel next to worthless due to how boring the customization options are. There are only a few guns and none of them match the Han Solo pistol in power and accuracy anyway. They give you a million different options of how you want to make your player look yet somehow they all look the same. Would you like your Asian female storm trooper to have black or brown hair?

Overall I found the game to be a huge disappointment. It had so much potential but ultimately failed to live up to almost every expectation beside visuals.

I've spent hours upon hours investing into this game. I hoped it would be a groundbreaker, packed with innovative surprises and a truly massive wartime "vibe" to it, something which is almost completely absent in the Star Wars saga. Given that it was so long-teased and in development for an eternity, I expected heaping amounts of content. Coming from Dice, who have a more impressive track record than many developers, these seemed like reasonable expectations, and I'm sure most of you would agree with that.

So, how does it stack up a few months later, in a time when all online shooters must be judged based on their longevity and sustainability? Well, while I'm not a fan of arbitrary numbers suggesting the overall value of an experience, but Metacritic demands I do so, and so there's a 5 slapped on top of this post.

My reviews can get very lengthy... like, "over 5,000 words" lengthy. I have a lot of conflicting thoughts on this game, so rather than talk in a circle, here's the good followed by the bad.

This game can be breathtakingly beautiful, and aesthetically, it is a triumphant visual portrayal of the Star Wars universe. There are better looking games, sure, but the real treat here lies in the details. Much care was taken by Dice to ensure a faithful visual and auditory experience to satisfy fans. There can really be nothing taken away from the in-game production value. When those big battles do come around, you feel the intensity as we never have in a Star Wars game before.
The actual gameplay mechanics were also surprisingly good to me. It's not quite like Battlefield, but the similarities can be noted. What really struck me and continues to be a bright spot is the fact that it just doesn't -feel- like anything else out there. The controls are sharp, (usually), and the way one moves about feels different enough to make the gameplay stand out. You won't bring a comprehensive understanding of how to play based off of any amount of Battlefield, CoD, or Halo you've been playing. It's still just a shooter, but even for seasoned gamers it requires a bit of learning. That is a tough thing to do these days. That is under-appreciated in this age of shooters.
Also, the museum of collectibles is nifty, if not limited and redundant. Had the game been given more "meat," it would have been a fancy bow on top.

Now, unfortunately, there is just as much bad as there is good... and possibly more.

It could be said that this is a money grab; fancy eye-candy packaging to cover a shallow experience.

I am a strong believer that all games must be judged based on their single player and multiplayer appeal equally, & this game is not easily enjoyed alone. Single player content is almost completely absent, and what effort was made was wasted, in my eyes. What's there amounts to little more than tutorials and waves of enemies. You play once on all of the maps, and you've seen it all. There is no plot to spoil. Rebels kill Imperials. Imperials kill rebels. The game lost massive points with me on the single player front. I don't -need- a campaign. What I need is a game that's fun to play alone, catering well to a person going into multiplayer flying solo. THAT qualifies as part of the solo aspect, and the game does so little to make you feel like going it alone.
The obvious knock everyone has is the lack of content, and to be brief, that is with good reason. There are a handful of maps, environments, and objectives, but other than the Star Wars setting, you have had a chance to play everything here before. Where there could have been truly sprawling and varied battlefields which play out in numerous ways, you are almost getting an "on rails" feeling with the games premiere mode, Walker Assault. That type of design is unacceptable, given the work that was expended into other areas of the game.

Equally lackluster was the currency system. It's simple; play games, get points, spend points. As far as I know, very little to nothing at all is unlocked from playing the game or finishing challenges. I understand that this keeps a more level playing field, but really, any good shooter develops a hardcore following, and those people should get a little something for their repeated efforts, in my opinion.

Summarizing, it's not that Battlefront is a bad game, per se.... however, it is yet another disappointment from Dice, and by my count, that's 3 major releases met with valid criticism.
It's is gorgeous, and faithful to its brand. It's clear that it was made by fans of the series. That being said, the pathetic amount of content will be run through by most players after a few hours, and in this day and age, that is not a sustainable experience.
The shame is that we can see just what the developers were going for - with some great ideas mixed in - but once you've finished leveling up, there is going to be very little bringing you back to the galaxy.

Star Wars battlefront does not deserve its bad rap of recent its genuinely a fun multiplayer game that feels like a star wars game like your in the star wars universe but that does not excuse it for the lack of maps. Game modes are simple enough but only 4 I would recommend these are walker assault, supremacy and turning point. I give it a 7 its fun and feels like a star wars game goodStar Wars battlefront does not deserve its bad rap of recent its genuinely a fun multiplayer game that feels like a star wars game like your in the star wars universe but that does not excuse it for the lack of maps. The issue is that this game plays it safe and doesn't offer anything new in its core shooting gameplay. It ignores progress made in the genre and that's most upsetting. Casual players will have a blast but it really isn't for the rest of us in my opinion.

Multiplayer shooter designed primarily for Star Wars fans. Simpler than its genre competitors it is, but it’s open to players of all kinds - at the same time it is not for everyone because of that “anyone can play” approach. [Issue #259]

As close as you'll get to getting your childhood back. Dig through the incredible production values and you'll find a serviceable shooter, but one with a potentially terminal lack of content. [Jan 2016, p.73]
