There is a huge lack of content, and the game play just isn't that fun. Lots of people are saying that it's just a Battlefield re-skin, but sadly the game would be better if it was. It feels as if it wants to be both Battlefield and Battlefront, and because of that it fails at being either.

I can't help but think they cut the campaign from this game purely from an effort to decrease development costs and maximize profits. This is beyond shameful.

I actually liked the beta. I specifically liked it because I thought it gave a glimpse into the actual game. In retrospect, it seems that it actually showed you what the entire package was.

+ Graphics and sound: Beautiful, very immersive

+ Power ups: These drop at random locations and add strategic value to the game. They can be anything from cannons, turrets and droids to orbital strikes, rocket launchers and squad shields. I actually liked it. You also have to find these power ups to become a hero/villain or to get into an AT-AT, AT-ST, A-wing, X-wing, etc. You get the picture.

+ Scope: Playing on Hoth, while an air battle is being waged above you, explosions everywhere, 39 other players on the map with you. Simply awesome feeling for a Star Wars fan.

+ Star cards: Considering all that I didn't like about the simplicity of this game (see below), I liked the cards system, where you could pick 3 abilities/equipments, e.g. shield, grenades, sniper rifle, jump pack, etc., and craft your own deck.

    - Lack of content: Only 4 maps. That's 4. 4 maps. Still can't believe it. More maps coming though, if you have the cash atop the 60 bucks you already payed. 16 additional maps planned as DLC? I get that developers and publishers need to make money, but when you ship the game with 4 maps and plan to add 16 more (+300%), how is that a legitimate DLC policy? How can you claim that this is supposed to be a standalone game? Also, only 11 weapons, the handling of which was so similar that it seemed there were even less than 11.

    - Game modes: Only a few. Don't look at the numbers, all of them were basically slight variations of Walker Assault and Blast. Simply adding Luke, Lea and Solo to Blast suddenly makes it a new mode? I don't think so. I expected more diversity from a multiplayer-only game.

    - Aircraft control: I don't like it at all. You maneuver with the cursor and use WASD to adjust your speed. It seems so counter-intuitive to me. Could you imagine steering your car with your cursor in racing games?

    - Single player: Practically non-existent. In my opinion, there is zero replay value to it.

    - Simplicity: There is not a lot of depth to this shooter. Again, it's multiplayer-only, so I think some depth can be legitimately expected.

You may notice that I wrote in past tense. That's because I returned it after 4 hrs of playing it. They are addressing some of these issues with future, payed DLC? This game is already too expensive (60 bucks) for what it's delivering, but the DLC policy is the icing on the cake. Drop it by 50% and I may consider buying it. To me, this seems like they prioritized looks over substance and hijacked the experience by charging it +100% what it's actually worth gameplay- and content-wise.

Their is far too many meaningless unlockables in an attempt to give people arbitrary reasons to keep playing. I haven't boughten a game from EA in at least 5 years and this game affirmed I should avoid EA games.

They have blatantly released half a game, this Battlefront should have shipped with a Full Campaign mode with a story that ties in to the New Movie. It's a blatant rip-off that it doesn't include it. Not to mention the fact that his Star Wars is completely based on the original trilogy, there is nothing in the entire game from the New Film which makes no sense because it's launch is coinciding (within less than one month) with the new film.

This is typical Lazy, Anti-Consumer EA at work. I love Star Wars and its fun to enjoy the Nostalgia for a moment, but they have so grossly left out the campaign, a story that ties in to the movie, and failed to include any characters, visuals or environments from the new film that it's hard to even give this game a 4/10.

Graphically: This is one of the best FPS I have ever seen and from the standpoint of the Art Design, it truly looks amazing. It feels like you are in the Original Trilogy, amazing art in this game. I give the graphics and visuals a 10/10.

Gameplay: This is basically Battlefield with a Star Wars skin. This really feels like a $20 DLC pack their pawning off as a $60 game and then trying to get you to pay $50 for DLC on top of that. Not to mention the DLC is so sleazy, they've clearly bareboned this game and plan on charging the absolute maximum for content that needed to be included in the regular launch version.

In my opinion all FPS nowadays need to have a Campaign/Story mode. A Multiplayer mode with excellent Matchmaking. And a Horde mode where you can relax and fight PvE style.
Also I think it should include; Custom Games, Theatre for watching your gameplay and quality Stat Tracking. This game Basically gives you 1/2 of a PVP mode with terrible Matchmaking playlists. It follows the COD style where you simply pick a gametype, so 90% of players are in either Team Deathmatch or One objective gametype and the entire rest of the playlists have 0 population.

TL;DR, Summary, Verdict: This is typical EA, they sell you half a multiplayer, basically a Star Wars themed DLC for Battlefield and pawn it off as a Full game. This game left a really bad taste in my mouth and re-affirmed that I should avoid EA games. Not impressed. Also their is 0-relation to the New Star War movie coming out in 2 weeks. Everything in the game is based on the Original Trilogy there is nothing related to the New Movie shockingly.

But from there it just plunges downhill, its lacks content and gets boring very quickly four maps its simply not enough specially when you know from day one that there is going to be at least 16 more maps and probably more weapon packs, but if you pay 50 euros more...
The gameplay is just average a bit too simple and the power ups thing its good and makes sense for heroes or starfighters, but I find it annoying for land vehicles (the very few there are) and unnecessary.
To see why I rented it but didnt biy it is simple I asked myself a question is this a solid game on its own without dlc, yes or no? making dlc an optional choice if you have the cash. Answer it is not. The DLC will not be Add-ons they will be a sort of game-life-support thing to keep people playing it, and such a game its not worth 110 f****g euros.

    My problems with this game;

-The SW universe is a big one, EA/DICE managed to ignore 99% of it and only include a fraction of the OT locations (Hoth, Tatooine etc).

-No classes. I don't know what it is about EA/DICE, it could be sheer laziness or perhaps a pursuit of making everyone even on the battlefield that they neglect classes making for very dull game play. One of the great things of SWBF I&II is that each class had its own pros/cons meaning you had to work together as a TEAM in order to succeed. Now they have been replaced with cards which are abysmal.

No AI - really was the biggest failure of this game. EA's ego is that great they decided to remove bots and turn battlefront into another run of the mill competitive shooter. Bot support was the CORNERSTONE which made the original titles great. If you didn't play online, you could just create a game with bots and have a blast.

Audio - The sounds of the blasters and vehicles may be good but there's one thing I can’t stand. And that’s the 'Murica' dialogue EA infuses into every shooter it makes. They really do like to glorify war and SWBF is no different. You can't go 2 seconds without hearing someone shouting 'IM PINNED DOWN OVER HERE!' or 'MAN DOWN!'/'SUPPRESSING FIRE!’ It’s all just too serious and doesn't fit in with the star wars universe.

Vehicles - You can no longer just hope into a vehicle, they are power ups. Mind boggling how this ever made it past the drawing board.

Heroes - Not as many heroes as its predecessors.

No prequel content - Even if you hated the prequels you can't argue they gave us more vehicles/soldiers/planets to play with. EA cutting them from this game (probably to release as DLC) was woefully wrong to do so.

I could go on past the 5000 character max with everything that is wrong with this game. But I'm sure you've all been saturated with the pretty visuals / expensive DLC etc people have been noting about. At the end of the day, Battlefront I & II which came out over a decade ago are still more enjoyable than this piece of crap. I've said it before and ill say it again, EA obtaining the IP to SWBF was THE worst thing that could have happened to this series. No more than ever I really do feel for the free radical staff that had their product cancelled during development. It would have been far superior to this.

Look up "Star Wars Battlefront II". In fact, buy it. Don't waste your time or money on this game. "The old ones have bad graphics!" yeah? well look at what they DO have.
    Battlefront I and II:
    -Galactic conquest
-60 player battles (yes it has a multiplayer called "game ranger")
-Clone wars and Galactic civil war
-Fun space battles that allowed you to infiltrate enemy ships
    -Campaign mode
    -Countless planets
    -Well developed class system
    -No DLC nonsense
-Already finished at launch with a $5 price tag
-Strategic combat that involves using your class to your advantage
    -Not-great graphics
    Battlefront 2015:
    -No galactic conquest
    -40 player battles
    -Only Galactic civil war
-Pointless ship battles that entirely involve you flying in circles until you drop dead
-No campaign or form of story
    -5 planets
-No class system or form of strategy
-DLC that came into the originals for free
-Nowhere close to finished and still with a $60 price tag
-Pointless combat that entirely involves getting a bigger group of players than your enemies
    -Good graphics
And I could go on even more! Also, it's not like they didn't have a long time to work on it. THEY HAD 8 YEARS TO WORK ON IT ONLY TO PRODUCE THIS DISGUSTING GARBAGE THEY CALL A "GAME"!
It's obviously just some cheap, overpriced merchandise to get people excited about the new movie. I will say one thing though, this is the first FPS game Disney has ever made, and they did put some serious work into the graphics. But that is no excuse for them destroying a good series. They had something functional on the table, but instead of working on it, they mutilated and rebooted it into some mess that had potential, but it was too close to the originals so they shot it till it broke and tried remaking it in their spare time without the instructions. But all that came out was a polished vase that had nothing of use on the inside. They then decided to put in some worthless "free content" while the paying content stood ready to ripoff. All in all, don't wast your time or money on this trash, especially if you loved the originals. My hope, which most likely won't come true, is that somebody will make the originals again but with a reasonable price and good graphics so that once again they may shine the light of the good ol' days again.

Your $60 investment only gets you only a small portion of what they put into this title. EA expects you to pay an additional $50 for the rest of it. And since it is multiplayer only, you are asked to pay $110 for what is only half a game to begin with. "Multiplayer only" is just EA's "always-on DRM" by another name.

It's games like this that make me worry about the direction of Star Wars. Disney is planning a movie every year, but with the rejection of the EU the Star Wars universe is empty and they seem to be going for a flashy cash grab. Very repetitive game, I was bored within half an hour but I tried to give it a chance and played for about 8 hours without having any fun. They seem to have literally picked the worst mechanics they could find, slapped on a couple Star Wars skins and made one map which switches from snow to rocks and called it a day. Most disappointing game of the year for sure, quite possibly of my life.

It has much less features than Battlefront 1 or 2, but of course there's a $50 season pass if you want to actually access all the game's content. So that's $110 for the full game, even though the little content you get when you buy the game is nowhere near $60 to begin with. The game is just a shameless DLC cash grab that no one will be playing in a few months when the Star Wars hype dies down. Expand

Garbage. For real. And now they're trying to pay people to say they like this game. People please, Show EA that giving half of a game and then trying to make you pay $110 for the full game is a crap strategy. For the sake of Star Wars and wallets everywhere, please.

Two generations after the launch of the most impressive Starwars video game title. It was a lackluster experience. It does not rely on vehicular combat at all. Plus vehicles are random and thus team strategy. Even with friends is null and void from this. There is little to no option for loadout customization and the default blaster is pretty much the best weapon I thought. But all that aside. With such small and so few maps. I was bored of the game after about a total of 13 hours. For a multiplayer only game. This was not good. Now I have to say that if you drop the $120.00 and get the DLC later down the road that maybe this game will provide enough content to stay fun and diverse for a bit longer. But that's too much money for one game. In my personal opinion. I honestly believe the servers will be dead in 4 months or so.

    Pros:
    > Excellent graphics.
    > Unique sound design.

    Cons:
    > Extremely repetitive game modes.
    > Imbalanced gameplay based on game mode.
    > Item drops/Vehicle switching/Special characters are completely random.
    > Lagging servers.
    > No Galactic Conquest.
    > No loadouts.
    > Horrible flying controls.
    > No space battles.
    > No prequel era.
    > Unnecessary token system for appealing to the casual masses.
    > Deluxe Edition.
    > AT-AT on rails.
    > No campaign.
    > No destructible environments.
    > Maximum PVP count is only 40.
    > Lack of player choice, preventing cohesive team strategies.
    > Meager launch content.
    > Will feel generic and boring after a few weeks.
    > Doesn't feel like a true Star Wars: Battlefront game.
    > Most likely will have dozens of planned overpriced DLC.
    > Published by EA.

Conclusion: This game will succeed only because of the "Star Wars" title behind it.

The several game modes are almost all just slight variations of the same thing, with only Walker Assualt being anything close to entertaining. Even then though how many times can you do the same mission on the paltry selection of maps before it becomes a chore?

The leveling up system is shallow and only seems to reward time spent playing as opposed to actual skill. And many of the unlockable weapons or items are next to useless, such as the jet pack that allows you to travel all of about 10ft before running out.

As to the battles, you will find yourself subject to constant cheap deaths, such as being one hit killed by one of the way overpowered hero characters, blown up by almost unavoidable homing missles or unluckily spawning 5ft from a group of enemies.

It is hard to believe that the 10 year old Battlefront 2 has vastly superior gameplay to this mess.

    Well, it looks good...

One can argue that in today's gaming culture, the graphics of a particular game may not matter much. That gamers really care about content and reliability. Well, one thing we won't have to worry about in Star Wars Battlefront is the looks.

From the first battle, I was astounded at how well this game really does in the art department. Every battle field is gorgeous, with scenery that really tugs the eyes and says "look over here!" That being said, the rest of the game isn't so great. Where to start:

    1) The balance of this game is ridiculous. On some maps ( Jundaland ) the Rebels get a clear head start in conquering the first control point. When most of your side can reach it in 2 seconds, it's pretty lopsided. On others, the vehicles of the Empire will always turn the tide of a battle. Calling in multiple Tie Fighters and AT-ST, the Rebels soon find themselves overwhelmed.

    2) Weapon balance is incredibly outrageous. When I can be killed in two shots by a pistol wielding storm trooper from 200 yards away, we know we have a problem. The stats for the weapons (range, damage, cooling power, etc. ) are pretty much useless. I don't know how many times I have been sniped by a pistol, but apparently pistols are basically long range blasters in this game, so yay.

    3) I like the addition of the card system, giving you different hands and so, but it would make much more sense to have one primary weapon and a much less powerful and close range side arm. Instead, if you want a side arm, you have to buy the scout pistol card and take up on of your 3 cards spots. And..

    4) Those card spots are oh so important. Many of them remove the skill needed to shoot someone. A "homing shot?" Like, really? Not much skill in a homing missile that you can use every 10-15 seconds. Also, not that I am a Star Wars expert, but I'm pretty sure that most troops weren't shooting around the battle field in jump packs. Makes the Supremacy mode very annoying.

    5) The other game modes fail to inspire any real fun, and had me always going back to Supremacy and Walker Assault. The various power ups you can pick up help to give each battle a small difference in feel, but after being sliced by Vader, or sniped by Han Solo for the 1000th time, it becomes monotonousness. Almost an inevitability that I will die, again and again, which leads me to....

    6) WHY THE EVERY LIVING F**K WOULD YOU SPAWN ME THERE! Almost every match I am spawned in an incredibly stupid location. Just killed three rebels before you died and feeling good? Well here, how about you spawn in front of 8 rebels, see how you like that! I mean, I have spawned literally in front of the entire enemy army, in front of a blasting AT-ST, and oh RIGHT ON TOP OF A PROXIMITY MINE. My god, how stupid can these developers be?

I have put 25 hours into this game, which isn't a lot, but I feel it's enough to render a verdict on this game. I want to love it, I really want to love it, but I find myself struggling to even like it. Hopefully, the balancing issues come up and are fixed and in the future this game will get the credit it deserves.

    Maybe then..maybe.

This is more powerful than any other weapon in the game, even the lightsabers. They tried to give this gun a downfall by making it overheat quickly. This would be effective except for the fact that at some point inside of 0.5 seconds of overheating you can quickly press X to instantly cool your weapon and begin firing again. Do not expect to ever be able to beat someone using this weapon unless you have several squad mates with you. The flight simulator has a similar problem. At some point during the match players can gain control of either the Millennium Falcon or Boba Fett's ship. These ships are near invincible. You can literally be blasting them for several minutes non-stop and they just will not die. Also they seem to be able to shoot missiles at you, even if you are directly behind them. Their dominance in game will determine what team wins the match regardless of other player's performance. Expand

Game is ok but just 3-3 heroes/villains... All SW Battlefront games have much more choices! The other thing I really hate in this game is the lies. This way how we can pilot it is really unfair and this is the same with everything else like hearoes/vilains or with the Millenium Falcon!!! After a month of playing I have never been the one who pilot an AT-AT because always were other who are faster to find that. It's ok that the chances are the same for everyone but in this way it's not. EA just show much more better trailes what this game became. What a big hang-up... :(:(:(:(:(
Anyway this game can be 8/10 for me if they change this chance and if they will put 6-8 (3-4 in both sides) more heroes/villains in the next DLCs.

However, your only method of practice thinks that throwing tougher and tougher opponents at you is the way to get better. Instead, it does little short of frustrate you. That leaves you with trying to play online against others -- and by the time you figure out what the objective is, those with more skill at the game have taken you out. I am actually disappointed that I spent my hard earned money on this game. Time to go back and try something else for a while. Expand

Definitely not worth the money they were asking at release and not even worth the money now, with absolutely no campaign and a horrible multilayer experience I don't believe that even the overpriced DLC's will save this appallingly sorry excuse for a game. DICE has exceedingly disappointed with this title.

And it's clear I'm not the only one. The price of the game has been drastically cut. About a month ago, I went to my local GameStop, and there was a copy of Star Wars Battlefront Deluxe Edition for the PS4 selling for $15. There were Wii games more expensive. Do not pick up this game, do not give any money to EA from this game. Expand

I managed to get this game, with the season pass, for £18 and I feel like I've been ripped off.

Good stuff: the graphics and sound are spectacular. Stunning. Beautiful.
    The various locations look incredible.
However if you roll a turd in glitter it's still a turd and that's what this game really is.

Had I bought this on release and paid the full price (and later the season pass) I'd be really angry for what was in the box.
This is the latest in a long line of games being used as cash cows by game companies to milk as much money from customers as they can.
Do not buy this game. Borrow it or rent it.
2 stars for the graphics and sound.

Bought this two years after launch for $30, still don't feel like it was worth it. The DLC exclusive maps have very little population and DLC exclusive weapons are by far and away completely overpowered compared to base game weapons. Its almost like people who paid more were given every advantage possible.

The issue is that this game plays it safe and doesn't offer anything new in its core shooting gameplay. It ignores progress made in the genre and that's most upsetting. Casual players will have a blast but it really isn't for the rest of us in my opinion.

Multiplayer shooter designed primarily for Star Wars fans. Simpler than its genre competitors it is, but it’s open to players of all kinds - at the same time it is not for everyone because of that “anyone can play” approach. [Issue #259]

As close as you'll get to getting your childhood back. Dig through the incredible production values and you'll find a serviceable shooter, but one with a potentially terminal lack of content. [Jan 2016, p.73]
