Star Wars Battlefront is N-O-T-H-I-N-G like its predecessors. I thought that needed to be gotten out of the way from the get-go. E.A. ("Ebolaids") clearly had only one intention with this game: TO FLEECE SAP CONSUMERS WITH A DLC RACKETEERING VEHICLE THAT RIDES THE COAT TAILS OF THE FILMS' HYPE TRAIN.
The game is a full RRP'd glorified demo, in every sense of the term: (as of writing) four(4) maps only; six(6) heroes; no space battles; restrictive map layouts; same-y weapons / weapon effects; boring, casualised gameplay (*lock-on aiming is not filterable in online play); silly token system to unlock the insultingly meagre content (e.g., normie skins and generic weapons); no split-screen online play; shallow, cursory offline split-screen implementation... Whichever angle you come at E.A.'s SW:Battlefront, you cannot help but see its shortcomings. This game IS NOT worth its RRP -- at launch, it had "season pass" (i.e., stripped content) DLC worth as much as the base game itself! This game is barely a demo. It's... shameful.
This game should be boycotted; not only for the sake of the integrity of the license, but also for the sake of the future of the video gaming pastime. For if games like this become staple for the industry, the pastime is surely dead. 4/10 -- poor / pirate it.

But the Star Wars novelty only lasts a few hours, and then you're stuck with a pretty barebones, multiplayer-only shooter that doesn't do anything to differentiate itself apart from the IP.

I'm a raving Star Wars fanboy, so it does pain me a little bit to give this game bad marks. But once you get past the fact that it's pretty and that it's Star Wars, where is the substance? The progression system is fairly dull, customization is very slim compared to most competing shooters, and there is no single-player campaign to bolster the areas this game falls short in. Where is the hook that keeps you coming back? Having played this game for several hours, I can woefully say there isn't much to it.

I know it's tired and overdone to compare this game to the previous Battlefront games, since people have been doing so ever since EA and DICE released more info about this new one, but they are actually fair comparisons to make. There are less playable heroes, less maps, less planets, no Galactic Conquest, no space battles, no single-player campaign, no 4-player splitscreen modes, no prequel trilogy (you can hate on the prequels all you want, but at least the prequels gave you more content to play with)... and it's been an entire decade since the last game in the franchise came out!! It seems to me like we've traded depth of content for prettier visuals, and that's a damn shame.

This is the only AAA Star Wars game we've gotten since LucasArts was shut down years ago, so it was hard not to get hyped over this one. But once you play Battlefront for about 10 hours or so and the nostalgia factor wears off, the game runs out of new things to show you, and it starts to become apparent that Battlefront could've been so much better had EA and DICE not rushed it out to coincide with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. My advice: wait for a sale on this one. $60 is a hefty price tag to pay for a game that, apart from its polished presentation, falls woefully short of its predecessors.

This means that genuinely cool planets and heroes can't be included because DICE and EA have either limited themselves or been limited by Disney.

Gunplay is bland, with little to no recoil. Vehicles are clunky and hard to control on some maps (of which there are disappointingly few), and there are only three heroes per faction. Overall, I am disappointed by this game.

One last thing I forgot was that it was promised there would be no DLC, and then now there's a 50 dollar Season Pass. Knocking a couple points off for that one.

Battlefront is the best looking multiplayer game on Xbox One. It truly raises the bar on visuals and performance. BF is snappy and crisp. Unfortunately, that’s all it offers. What should’ve been an epic Star Wars opus is ultimately a mundane, one trick pony that doesn’t deliver a experience fans deserve.

BF defies expectations in a bad way. The richness of the Star Wars universe provides Dice ample material to work with. Instead, it developed a run-of-the-mill shooter containing repetitive game modes, scant maps, and a bland progression system. No one expected that. They expected more. Much more. And rightly so. The previous Battlefront games were immensely popular and enjoyed long shelf-lives. Battlefront 2 set the gold standard for Star Wars games by offering plenty to do in a massive galactic playground. The overall experience was cutting edge and remains popular to this day.

The newest Battlefront lacks the breadth of content its predecessor offers. Not only that, the multiplayer experience happens on a much smaller scale. Foremost, the current Battlefront has smaller lobbies than the much older Battlefront 2. This is puzzling since nextgen consoles are more powerful than 2005 PC hardware. Secondly, the game focuses on infantry combat. Vehicles are wedged in and don’t serve any strategic purpose. Combat stagnates quickly because there’s no variety.

Yet, we don’t have to compare the new and old Battlefronts to see that the newest one lacks substance. No campaign. No story. Only 2 player co-op. Limited maps. A paltry 6 movie characters are playable. No worthwhile vehicle combat. No space battles. No battles on star destroyers or rebel frigates. The game was rushed to market, so Dice/EA had to make a choice: Does Battlefront emphasize graphics or content. They chose graphics, and axed everything else. That decision backfired.

What’s worse is EA’s awful DLC policy. But it’s EA, so no one should be surprised. EA expects players to fork out $50+ dollars for season passes but it won’t tell players what the DLC contains, only that more information is coming soon. Due to a severe public backlash, EA clarified some of this mystery. But information merely trickles out. EA said it plans to monetize Battlefront content for at least another year, despite the game’s low sales. Ironically, BF’s low sales are due in a large part to EA’s plans to monetize everything. BF needs more content, not more paid content. EA royally screws every franchise it touches. So I guess Star Wars is next on its hit list.

Anyway, is Battlefront worth owning? No. BF is insanely broken. Spawns are ridiculously bad. In one game, I spawned directly in front of an AT-ST 7 times in a row. In another, I spawned into an orbital strike. In another, I was killed by Luke Skywalker 3 times before the game spawned me somewhere else—beside a heavy turret which pummeled me with blaster fire. Those experiences are typical for all players. And since spawns are “randomized”, players will often have the wrong loadouts for the situations at hand. As a result, people stick to the same loadouts further hampering the already inadequate combat.

Hit detection is awful too. This problem has persisted in Dice games for years, so no surprise there. In my most recent match, I hit a Stormtrooper in the back. I counted 12 consecutive hit markers. No kill. Opponents run thru grenades and maintain full health. If players die while throwing grenades, the grenades will not detonate. Yet players have to wait for grenades to recharge after they respawn. Oddly, that problem doesn’t affect homing rockets.

Crappy hit detection is exaggerated by mediocre weapon balance. Poor weapon balance is exaggerated by broken spawns. And all this is exaggerated by the low skill gap. Players should expect to die a lot for reasons beyond their control. If K/D matters, don’t play BF.

Vehicles and special items spawn as “tokens” on the battlefields. The same 3-4 players who memorized their spawns constantly spam tokens. Those jerks monopolize the goodies. So new players are unlikely to play as a hero or drive an AT-ST except once very dozen or so games. And that’s if they’re lucky. Levelcapgaming predicted this outcome in his beta review.

The heroes and villians are OK, but their strengths are situational. And BF’s horrid spawn system handicaps them quite a bit. Spawning Boba Fett indoors is nearly a death sentence. His main strength is the jetpack, which has limited functionality in a hallway. Princess Leia is an excellent support character, but not if she appears 200 yards away from the nearest ally. And there’s only 6 total playable characters. The rest are obviously being saved for DLC.

I don’t know what more I can say about Battlefront, except it’s another obvious EA cash grab. There was a deadline, so we get a half-baked product. I’ve already traded it in. There’s not enough meat on the bone to keep me interested, and I’m tired of the pay-to-play model tacked on to $60 games.

It's not the third so in my eyes this is something new, a test if you will. This game is a perfect example of 'Graphics don't make a game' since in 4k this game looks phenomenal but there's nothing new or unique. There's barely any guns and I believe 6 maps in general, 4 for walker assault and 2 extra for the small maps.

    What went wrong?!
Anyone could say time constraints but unless EA forced Dice to make this game as it is there is no excuse, no space battles or Conquest was the biggest mistake ever as survival is as **** and repetitive as you'd expect. Had the game had 6 maps or a couple less BUT had the amazing large battles that had both space and land in the same fights as the PSP game did this would be a huge success but no. Why? No seriously why couldn't they do any of it? There is no excuse.

And the New DLC that adds 16?!?!?!?!?! maps to the game is a disgrace, time constraints? Yeah because they don't already have any of those maps waiting to be released. New Modes as well with the DLC, it seems EA or Dice thought everyone would agree with the Battlefield model except what they forgot is BATTLEFIELD HAS MORE CONTENT.

Also to add to the Time Constraints argument, there was already a better battlefront game that had full transition to space that was cancelled and then this garbage was made. They could have used that game instead.

To sum it up, Battlefront is NOT Battlefront 3 and never will be, it's a completely different game and even with its Unbelievable graphics Battlefront 2 is still the better choice or if can get it the PSP battlefront game. Hopefully in a few years Battlefront 2 will come out and it will surpass this game by so much we will forget this was even a game, or hell if out of the blue the cancelled game gets active again and comes out.

I've played the game about 30 Minutes while countless hours on the beta, what does this mean? The game has nothing unique about it, the walker assault mode is its USP and they flushed it away through the beta.

ALSO If EA are being the mischievous **** we all know them to be I imagine one of those 2 modes could be space battles which means locking it away behind DLC so more money for them, hell they could have full transitional battles there as well. I don't imagine there's much else they could add so it wouldn't surprise me.

P.S I don't own this game, i'm an EA access member so I used my trial and didn't pick up my pre-order because of this. I'll wait for the game to be added to the vault which probably won't be long since EA did the same with Hardline when people didn't like that.

The leveling up system is shallow and only seems to reward time spent playing as opposed to actual skill. And many of the unlockable weapons or items are next to useless, such as the jet pack that allows you to travel all of about 10ft before running out.

As to the battles, you will find yourself subject to constant cheap deaths, such as being one hit killed by one of the way overpowered hero characters, blown up by almost unavoidable homing missles or unluckily spawning 5ft from a group of enemies.

It is hard to believe that the 10 year old Battlefront 2 has vastly superior gameplay to this mess.

I actually liked the beta. I specifically liked it because I thought it gave a glimpse into the actual game. In retrospect, it seems that it actually showed you what the entire package was.

+ Graphics and sound: Beautiful, very immersive

+ Power ups: These drop at random locations and add strategic value to the game. They can be anything from cannons, turrets and droids to orbital strikes, rocket launchers and squad shields. I actually liked it. You also have to find these power ups to become a hero/villain or to get into an AT-AT, AT-ST, A-wing, X-wing, etc. You get the picture.

+ Scope: Playing on Hoth, while an air battle is being waged above you, explosions everywhere, 39 other players on the map with you. Simply awesome feeling for a Star Wars fan.

+ Star cards: Considering all that I didn't like about the simplicity of this game (see below), I liked the cards system, where you could pick 3 abilities/equipments, e.g. shield, grenades, sniper rifle, jump pack, etc., and craft your own deck.

    - Lack of content: Only 4 maps. That's 4. 4 maps. Still can't believe it. More maps coming though, if you have the cash atop the 60 bucks you already payed. 16 additional maps planned as DLC? I get that developers and publishers need to make money, but when you ship the game with 4 maps and plan to add 16 more (+300%), how is that a legitimate DLC policy? How can you claim that this is supposed to be a standalone game? Also, only 11 weapons, the handling of which was so similar that it seemed there were even less than 11.

    - Game modes: Only a few. Don't look at the numbers, all of them were basically slight variations of Walker Assault and Blast. Simply adding Luke, Lea and Solo to Blast suddenly makes it a new mode? I don't think so. I expected more diversity from a multiplayer-only game.

    - Aircraft control: I don't like it at all. You maneuver with the cursor and use WASD to adjust your speed. It seems so counter-intuitive to me. Could you imagine steering your car with your cursor in racing games?

    - Single player: Practically non-existent. In my opinion, there is zero replay value to it.

    - Simplicity: There is not a lot of depth to this shooter. Again, it's multiplayer-only, so I think some depth can be legitimately expected.

You may notice that I wrote in past tense. That's because I returned it after 4 hrs of playing it. They are addressing some of these issues with future, payed DLC? This game is already too expensive (60 bucks) for what it's delivering, but the DLC policy is the icing on the cake. Drop it by 50% and I may consider buying it. To me, this seems like they prioritized looks over substance and hijacked the experience by charging it +100% what it's actually worth gameplay- and content-wise.

    Let's run it down a pro/con list

    - cons

    No galactic conquest

Lack of a decent class system

    Female storm troopers (excuse me?)

An eerie sparseness of class content (like in titanfall)

    Not many maps

flying controls are...jesus...they're horrible, this one bothers me especially because most people are used to the physics and controls in Battlefield, because of the Frostbite engine, but in this game they've retooled the mechanics for flying to make it more user friendly, WHICH IS IRONIC because 99.99999% of the f***ing players are already used to the other controls, and if Battlefront is your first FPS then you should probably get the f*ck of the servers. DICE was like "oh hey you guys like the controls? alright here you g- AHAHHAHA just kidding f*ck you! here's a broken non-userfriendly control scheme, use this s*it, not our problem because we're bathing in money right now"

Season pass = 39.99!?! excuse me? EA you covetous f*ck get over here!

Oh and not to mention 5 DLCs, mhmm that's good. didn't realize I was playing COD

    Lack of vehicle combat.

No space battles? that was the entire reason I bought battlefront 2 in 2005. Oh excuse me, I didn't mean to impune the all knowing omnipotence of EA, you smelly little f**ker

Imbalance on ATAT assault, the Rebels will lose 70% of the time, it's like Invasion from Halo Reach, where if you were the Spartans you would lose constantly

No campaign, I really do give a s*it
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Now for the pros

    Customize armor

    game looks great

    wilhelm scream

    and that's f**king it.

I haven't boughten a game from EA in at least 5 years and this game affirmed I should avoid EA games.

They have blatantly released half a game, this Battlefront should have shipped with a Full Campaign mode with a story that ties in to the New Movie. It's a blatant rip-off that it doesn't include it. Not to mention the fact that his Star Wars is completely based on the original trilogy, there is nothing in the entire game from the New Film which makes no sense because it's launch is coinciding (within less than one month) with the new film.

This is typical Lazy, Anti-Consumer EA at work. I love Star Wars and its fun to enjoy the Nostalgia for a moment, but they have so grossly left out the campaign, a story that ties in to the movie, and failed to include any characters, visuals or environments from the new film that it's hard to even give this game a 4/10.

Graphically: This is one of the best FPS I have ever seen and from the standpoint of the Art Design, it truly looks amazing. It feels like you are in the Original Trilogy, amazing art in this game. I give the graphics and visuals a 10/10.

Gameplay: This is basically Battlefield with a Star Wars skin. This really feels like a $20 DLC pack their pawning off as a $60 game and then trying to get you to pay $50 for DLC on top of that. Not to mention the DLC is so sleazy, they've clearly bareboned this game and plan on charging the absolute maximum for content that needed to be included in the regular launch version.

In my opinion all FPS nowadays need to have a Campaign/Story mode. A Multiplayer mode with excellent Matchmaking. And a Horde mode where you can relax and fight PvE style.
Also I think it should include; Custom Games, Theatre for watching your gameplay and quality Stat Tracking. This game Basically gives you 1/2 of a PVP mode with terrible Matchmaking playlists. It follows the COD style where you simply pick a gametype, so 90% of players are in either Team Deathmatch or One objective gametype and the entire rest of the playlists have 0 population.

TL;DR, Summary, Verdict: This is typical EA, they sell you half a multiplayer, basically a Star Wars themed DLC for Battlefield and pawn it off as a Full game. This game left a really bad taste in my mouth and re-affirmed that I should avoid EA games. Not impressed. Also their is 0-relation to the New Star War movie coming out in 2 weeks. Everything in the game is based on the Original Trilogy there is nothing related to the New Movie shockingly.

You immediately get the feeling that game feels a bit thin when you see the main menu. It has been known for a while now that the game has no campaign mode. So all you see is a few multiplayer variations. Some of which are very similar and provide very few new experiences. Instead of a story mode they chose to include a survival gametype. This simply does not make up for not having an adequate single player experience. The gameplay is beautiful, but without anything to keep you hooked, its' value is basically neutralized. Star Wars Battlefront is a pathetic attempt to recreate the glorious original Battlefront games that have now been out for years. Fans have now been for 10 years and what they get is a few hours of intense gameplay with almost no replay value. This game may be worth its' value in about 4 or 5 months when it costs $25, until then, save your money.

Also the first dlc that will be released will have about the same amount of game that is in the game right now. When it's all said and done, you will likely have spent at least $120 bucks on this game. The funny thing is I can't even check the spoilers box for this review because, quite simply, there is nothing to spoil!

This game had so much potential. It's a classic case of EA syndrome. The game has amazing sound design, and looks beautiful. That being said the game is lacking, there are only two good game modes, not enough maps, and no where near enough guns. It did not live up to the originals at all.

Compared to Battlefront 2, this game is a husk. I played several hours and quickly got bored. I tried the game modes and it didn't seem like many people were playing some of them. Even if you are a Star Wars fan, I suggest not getting it - because you CAN GET BETTER than this.
    -No space battles
-Few players in some of the game modes -Very repetitive -Unlocks kind of lame -Best gun

Beautiful looking game that has it's fun moments, but the fun dies quickly. I can't believe people are willing to pay $60 for this game, that's basically a multiplayer only game with limited options. If you're not huge into star wars this game is not the game for you. It is fun to try everything for the first time, but it gets old fast.

This game lacks all of that. There is no skill in this game for shooting or in fighter. Holding down the trigger to lock on and being unable to shake off an enemy tie fighter cuz he brakes and just watches you flail about trying to shake him off is bull **** The hero ships are even worse having 3 fighters tailing the falcon and it just flying with out a care in the world is stupid, there have been matchs i have played where a player only dies once and thats cuz he was in the hero ship the whole time and can be bought down at all cuz they have so much more health.

The gameplay is just average a bit too simple and the power ups thing its good and makes sense for heroes or starfighters, but I find it annoying for land vehicles (the very few there are) and unnecessary.
To see why I rented it but didnt biy it is simple I asked myself a question is this a solid game on its own without dlc, yes or no? making dlc an optional choice if you have the cash. Answer it is not. The DLC will not be Add-ons they will be a sort of game-life-support thing to keep people playing it, and such a game its not worth 110 f****g euros.

Pay the 70$ on origin, that way you can ask for your money back once you realize how terrible this game is, and hey if you like it, they deserve the 70$ anyway, don't be so cheap.

Maps are so lopsided its not even funny. Its got some of the weirdest design choices in it, like how maps don't randomly rotate, or you never seem to play the same map from the other side. I was dumbfounded on my 5th round playing the forest map as imperials. Just waiting for my chance to play with the cheap rebellion skins and wreck havoc with my easy to hide body and Jawa blaster, but that never happened. The game just rotates the same sides on the same maps over and over. This leads to a lot of people just leaving the game if they end up on the "wrong side" whichever they think that is anyway.

There's also no community building in this game either. Between games, there's no chatting allowed, have to watch the same EXP bar animations over, and over again. No cards to choose this round? Well just sit in silence for about 30 seconds. What- you wanna chat? CHATTING IS ONLY FOR CONSENTING FRIENDS! This isn't a game to make friends in, just play with them.

Choosing what to play also seems so dull, there's no interesting game mashups that would vary up the map selection in any way. If you start one game of walker assault, that's all you'll be playing until you decide otherwise.

Then there's these ridiculous things like, maybe half your team leaves a game, well that doesn't matter, lets just keep going see what happens... Oh, a new map? Well you played that last one with 2 to 1 odds, lets just leave it that way, maybe it'll grow on you? 2/3rds of the players are having a blast if you hadn't noticed! Then there's spawning, you have no choice in the matter, oh an AT-ST is right there, just shooting the very ground you have to spawn on? Tough! Spawn on your partner! Oh he's pointing a gun at something? NO DICE, he's in combat and spawning on him would be unrealistic! Lastly- at least what comes to mind, the re-spawn menu is just broken, it requires you to usually mouse away from clicking the respawn button right away, but sometimes that's not enough, seriously, I check my hands, choose another, and I still can't click the respawn button. Am I missing something?

Agh, whatever, not like anyone but vindictive fanboys will read these reviews and down vote them or whatever. My words won't stop people from buying this game. Just throwing my 2 cents into the pile. It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall of the department that is going to handle all the Origin refunds of this game. It works, it's not broken (except that respawn stuff) but it's just a bad game.

It's now in Star Wars! With a disgustingly low number of multiplayer game modes, 9 by the way, and something like 10 maps, you will easily get bored after a couple of games, even on the decent game modes. This is not the Battlefront fans fell in love with in the past. It's no where near what i used to be. The freedom of choosing from a class system in Battlefront 1 and 2 is now gone. So no, you can't choose to be an Engineer, or a sniper, or a wookie. You just have to stick put with the standard infantry until you can buy a 'shotgun' or a 'sniper'.

One of the most disappointing aspects of the game is, as said above, the content. NO CAMPAIGN which is ridiculously poor. This game is literally a multiplayer game, with 'Missions' being the only way to play co-op with a friend on either survival, or a simple deathmatch or hero one. Terribly poor from EA. One of the best features of previous battlefronts WAS TO PLAY WITH A FRIEND. But guess what? Now you can hardly do that. No f****** option for a custom game or even a simple skirmish! What the hell is up with that?! Battlefront 2 was the perfect game. It had skirmishes, it had the hunt mode, the classic Mos Eisely hero battle. The awesome Conquest game mode; going from planet to planet and conquering each one. Nope, there's NONE of this in this game. So, so poor from EA this time.

The game however does have its good bits. It is still fun to play; with an entertaining shooting system, and random power up tokens which are very fun to use. The graphics are amazing, whether you are standing still, sprinting, or flying around in a TIE fighter. But these aren't exactly what Battlefront fans are looking for. We'd rather enjoy a far greater freedom of game play that is similar to the previous battlefronts, NOT similar to battlefield.

This game is one of the biggest wastes of money I have ever spent on a game. With only 6 playable heroes available, and only a focus on the sequels and the new Force Awakens film, it's definitely NOT worth buying. What really p***** me off is the fact that EA say, "oh don't worry, there's much more! Just wait for the 4 expansion packs coming out!" oh okay, let me just pay even MORE money for content which should ALREADY BE THERE. Ridiculous from EA. Yet again their extortionate character has come out completely. It's ruined the battlefront franchise completely. It's simply not good enough.

No content, the maps are nice and big but you have to be a pro at online games to be able to play with anyone. It would also be nice if they put the airships on the actual map rather than power ups on the field. I sure hope the movie isn't as bad as this.

One can argue that in today's gaming culture, the graphics of a particular game may not matter much. That gamers really care about content and reliability. Well, one thing we won't have to worry about in Star Wars Battlefront is the looks.

From the first battle, I was astounded at how well this game really does in the art department. Every battle field is gorgeous, with scenery that really tugs the eyes and says "look over here!" That being said, the rest of the game isn't so great. Where to start:

    1) The balance of this game is ridiculous. On some maps ( Jundaland ) the Rebels get a clear head start in conquering the first control point. When most of your side can reach it in 2 seconds, it's pretty lopsided. On others, the vehicles of the Empire will always turn the tide of a battle. Calling in multiple Tie Fighters and AT-ST, the Rebels soon find themselves overwhelmed.

    2) Weapon balance is incredibly outrageous. When I can be killed in two shots by a pistol wielding storm trooper from 200 yards away, we know we have a problem. The stats for the weapons (range, damage, cooling power, etc. ) are pretty much useless. I don't know how many times I have been sniped by a pistol, but apparently pistols are basically long range blasters in this game, so yay.

    3) I like the addition of the card system, giving you different hands and so, but it would make much more sense to have one primary weapon and a much less powerful and close range side arm. Instead, if you want a side arm, you have to buy the scout pistol card and take up on of your 3 cards spots. And..

    4) Those card spots are oh so important. Many of them remove the skill needed to shoot someone. A "homing shot?" Like, really? Not much skill in a homing missile that you can use every 10-15 seconds. Also, not that I am a Star Wars expert, but I'm pretty sure that most troops weren't shooting around the battle field in jump packs. Makes the Supremacy mode very annoying.

    5) The other game modes fail to inspire any real fun, and had me always going back to Supremacy and Walker Assault. The various power ups you can pick up help to give each battle a small difference in feel, but after being sliced by Vader, or sniped by Han Solo for the 1000th time, it becomes monotonousness. Almost an inevitability that I will die, again and again, which leads me to....

    6) WHY THE EVERY LIVING F**K WOULD YOU SPAWN ME THERE! Almost every match I am spawned in an incredibly stupid location. Just killed three rebels before you died and feeling good? Well here, how about you spawn in front of 8 rebels, see how you like that! I mean, I have spawned literally in front of the entire enemy army, in front of a blasting AT-ST, and oh RIGHT ON TOP OF A PROXIMITY MINE. My god, how stupid can these developers be?

I have put 25 hours into this game, which isn't a lot, but I feel it's enough to render a verdict on this game. I want to love it, I really want to love it, but I find myself struggling to even like it. Hopefully, the balancing issues come up and are fixed and in the future this game will get the credit it deserves.

    Maybe then..maybe.

Cons: very few content, it is like a demo. Probably after all DLCs come out it will be a decent content-wise game, but price-wise the game will end up costing more than 100 USD.

The interface is clunky, there are very limited options to reconfigure the controls and in general the game play would be more specific to a game made in the late 90s. Really surprised by that. Flying is okay but the "maps" for flying encounters are pretty small so you end up flying out of bounds frequently when pursuing a target and then have to double back. Not a lot of content in the game and it gets repetitive quickly. I have had the game for 4 days and am pretty much finished with it. Major disappointment. Expand

This game has been one of my biggest disappointments in 2015. There is a huge lack of content, and the game play just isn't that fun. Lots of people are saying that it's just a Battlefield re-skin, but sadly the game would be better if it was. It feels as if it wants to be both Battlefield and Battlefront, and because of that it fails at being either.

Limited weapon selection even when fully unlocked. No weapon mod system, and none feel particularly fun. Hit box issues and damage reduction at range make combat frustrating.

Outrageous spawning issues - expect to spawn directly on top of opponents or have them do the same to you. I got chain killed by Luke Skywalker three times within 20 seconds as I repeatedly spawned directly in front of the player controlling him.

I did not buy the season pass when offered. 50.00$ is pretty expensive when details on the 4 dlcs to come are sketchy at best.

Game quickly becomes tedious and repetitive. No wookies. No space battles.

The immense pool of resources available from a hugely popular universe, experienced development team, and existing shooters to draw inspiration from leave no excuse for Battlefront to be as substandard as it is.

Tangentially, an argument could be made that this was a lazy, shameless bid on EA's part for a guaranteed cash cow on the coat tails of a popular brand and the impending movie resurgence.

    1) No campaign OR story in ANY form!? I love Star Wars games for the stories and lore they bring into the Star Wars Universe. Battlefront 2 had an amazing story and story elements, even if you just played the conquer map. There is NO story here, not in any single player mode nor even the multi-player modes. I thought maybe it'd be like Titanfall where you still get some cool story in the multi-player, but NOPE, it's just mindless game modes. Now the game play itself is fun, and the graphics are great as well as the sound, but that does NOT make up for this huge flaw.

    2) This is really just Battlefield with Star Wars environments, skins, and weapons. Don't get me wrong, Battlefield is great, but if I wanted to play Battlefield more, I'd, well... play Battlefield.

    3) You don't really have the freedom of being a hero or even piloting a ground or air vehicle when you want. You are in competition with the other players on finding the vehicles or power ups first, so don't expect to have a specialty as a pilot or a hero because chances are you won't be getting what you want each round.

    4) Lack of content. There are only 4 maps for the "main" multi-player mode (supremacy), and a few more maps for the other modes. VERY skimpy for the price tag, ESPECIALLY considering the fact that there is no campaign.

2/10 just because it is fun for a short time, the graphics are great, and so are the sounds. The environments are also faithful recreations.

Am I ever glad my local Gamestop allowed me to swap this title with another $60 of my choice. This game is bad. Like most of the merchandise being pumped out in anticipation of the new movie, this game is no exception.

When I saw Dice was signed on to make this, I expected a great shooter. This was the bait. The game itself looks pretty, the game sounds fantastic, minus the character's voices. The game itself is simply not worth the $60 price tag.

First off, there is no single player campaign. None. There's a "survival" mode, which is a slow paced 15 wave game where you must fend off the worst AI controlled Bots in the Galaxy. There's a vehicle training mode, and a "Head to head" mode where you can duel heroes with 1 friend or against the same clunky AI.

Speaking of clunky, the vehicle controls and soldier movement is clunky and awful. Tie Fighters handle like a shopping cart, and alot of the ground environment requires you to jump over the smallest rocks/inclines, especially on the Endor map.

The actual combat is forgettable. If you encounter more than 1 enemy at any given time, unless you kill them with an explosive, you wont win, even if they're lined up. The reason being is the weapons you get, yes, all of them, have no penetration, like in other shooters like Call of Duty or Battlefield.

The spawn system is beyond awful. This was brought up in the beta, and the devs did nothing about it. I had times where I spawned (not on my team mate, mind you) and died within 3 seconds of spawning. I've also had enemies spawn with their backs to me. I should also point out that there's NOTHING to prevent enemies from sitting in your spawn, or even going behind it and attacking you as you spawn.

The shooting itself is very casual. Outside the Heavy Blasters, which are basically Light Machine Guns in any other shooter, no weapon has enough recoil to make a difference. The weapons really differ in range, fire rate, and damage. Most of these don't matter, because primary weapons all take atleast 2 shots to someone's head for a kill, 3-5 to the chest, and more for limbs.

The map choices aren't enough to keep you interested. They took iconic maps, like Hoth, Endor and Tattooine, and made 2 maps of eac, plus two for Mustaafar (sp?). That's 8 maps, that are actually small, unless on walker assault, where they actually allow you to play the entire levels as they should've done.

Heroes are obnoxious. Granted they're meant to be stronger than the typical trooper, the fact that it literally takes over 100 shots to kill one is insane. Coupled with the heroes' 1 hit kill abilities (Vader's Sabre toss, Leia's move that literally lets you 1 hit kill storm troopers, Luke's Sabre charge), they become frustrating to encounter. The Millennium Falcon and Slave I in the fighter mode are just as over powered, in terms of health and damage output.

Power ups (special items, heroes, Fighter/AT-ST controls) tend to spawn in the open, and most dangerous places. Should you manage to get your X-Wing power up, guess what, the tie fighters in the sky can literally shoot you down as you zone in with the fighter before you can even move. That's right. You can die before you can fire back, or even try to take evasive maneuvers.

The final icing on this cake is the DLC. $50 for the season pass. That's essentially buying another title. $50 for...what? Maybe 6 maps, new heroes (from episode 7), and more guns that are mediocre? No thanks.

As this game stands, I can NOT recommend it. There are plenty of other shooters that offer more to gamers than this title. I'm beyond thankful Gamestop let me return this.

This game had so much potential but has been let down by far too many issues.

The biggest let down is the volume of content. EA chose not to include a single player story line. Granted, the original Battlefront games didn't have the most in depth story modes, but they were there for when you didn't want to go up against other players. Making the decision not to include story mode even worse is the fact that there actually isn't that much content in the game. Sure, there are quite a few different game modes, but they're on the same small handful of maps. Which get boring very fast.

The main battle mode, Supremacy, loosely follows on from the the original Battlefront, but taking over command points no longer gives a team any form of tactical advantage like it did in the originals. Gone are the days when taking over a command point actually meant you were weakening the other side.

Further to that, most of the objectives don't have any real effect in the game. If you shoot down shuttles in squadron mode (or protect them) you get no bonus to the team score. This means everyone will ignore the objectives as staying alive is more important. this kills a lot of the immersion that objective based play can provide.

In a very surprising move, EA has removed the concept of character classes. Gone are the snipers, heavy weapons officers and pilots. Instead, EA has chosen a one size fits all approach where any soldier can choose any unlocked weapon, and visual differences are completely cosmetic. Instead of making the characters more exciting and interesting to play it makes the characters become more and more dull with each play. Also, speaking of cosmetic changes, stormtroopers can play without their iconic helmets. Whilst only a cosmetic change, it seriously kills the immersion of fighting against the faceless machine that is the Empire.

EA has also removed vehicle spawn points. There are plenty of vehicles sitting in the levels, you just can't get in them. Instead, vehicles are random pickups that when activated make your character fade from the battlefield and appear in the vehicle. I can't begin to describe how much this grates on my nerves. It introduces an element of luck that can seriously sway the tide of the battle. If your team isn't lucky with the vehicle drops (and it's happened to my team a number of times) then your team is at a huge disadvantage.

Heroes, like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, are likewise randomly dropped. And likewise, it can hurt your team's chances when they just don't drop.

The introduction of pure fighter mode interested me. Until I played it. The control system is so incredibly simplified to the point of stupidity. Instead of handling like a fighter should it handles like a car that can go up and down. The fighters also turn so sharply that all believability is left at the game lobby. The sharpness of the turns means that instead of you skilfully lining up your target to kill them you just point your ship in the general direction of your target and wait for target lock to kick in. As with ground mode, there are two heroes that can be picked up but thankfully these drop frequently.

Apart from pretty graphics and the fact that it's Star Wars this game has very little going for it. Mindless battle after battle with no endgame in sight gets tiring, plus the lack of content that EA has promised to fill after you pay for DLC leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. It's such a shame that Battlefront 2, a game that's 10 years old, is better than this one. EA has released The Phantom Menace of the Star Wars games.

This leaves little to play with (when the game is working) and I couldn't help but feel bored by the whole experience. I must draw comparisons to Battlefronts big competition (Call of Duty & even Battlefield). Both of these games provide an abundance of content (even without paid DLC / season passes) and have a large amount of depth that is required to keep gamers invested. This is clearly a game that was released too early with the hopes of cashing in on the movie. Gamers are left with a bad taste in their mouth and the desire to replay the old Battlefront 2 game instead. Expand

Not only that, but I was tired of experiencing the same things over and over again. The lack of a fantastic online experience mixed with no campaign or story mode to mix things up makes this game one of the shallowest that I have ever purchased. The skill level required to accomplish anything is set for 8 year olds. The tutorials are a joke, because nothing new is in this game that has not been in a thousand games before.

To go with the crappy game play is a host of bugs. Most notably is the constant server interruptions. During 3/5 games it will start to lag. EA was nice enough to include a warning that states that their own game is unplayable because their servers are messing up. Why not work on improving your servers instead of creating a message to describe why your game sucks?

They worked lines from the movie into other characters' dialogue to the point where it sounds like the people in the game saw Star Wars recently and are reciting lines to each other like an inside joke, while fighting Star Wars battles. "We've captured the point. ALL TOO EASY!" Han Solo recites lines we've heard in a dozen other games, but only heard once in the movies. The game wasn't written to fit in within the SW movies, it was assembled verbatim from them. Worse, it was assembled from the Star Wars movies we've seen a hundred times. Conveniently rushed to shelves in time to see a new one hit theaters in a few weeks, but we don't see any of that one here.

The problem is that if you were to strip away the Star Wars theme from these battles and reskin it with pretty much anything else, the game is not good. Sure, it feels like the originals, but they're a decade old. There's no excuse for this game to be the least bit shallow in terms of content, but there it is. You're running around looking for glowing tokens like Crash Bandicoot looking for fruit.

It comes down to people who are happy with what we were handed here, and the people who see what this could have been. It could have expanded on things like Jedi Knight or KOTOR, could have had gameplay options and freedom like the Arkham games did for Batman (tell me using the grapple hoist line Luke used to grenade the AT-AT, but free to use anywhere creatively wouldn't have been amazing) but instead we got the standard EA movie tie-in treatment.

The only thing original DICE did for this game it failed completely at: the gameplay. We could talk about how this game doesn't live up to the predecessors from 2 console generations ago. We could talk about how the game lacks map variety and beloved game modes. We could even talk about how they distort battles from the big screen to include unnecessary or detracting elements (X-Wings/TIE Fighters/Orbital Bombardment on Hoth) or didn't include elements that seem like they should be mandatory (AI Ewoks helping out the Rebellion on Endor). All of these things Star Wars: Battlefront did absolutely wrong, but it is the character "setup" and the tokens on maps are where it is most egregious. Gone are the days of class selection where you could switch on the fly depending on the need of the battle, and welcome to the days where everyone has basically the same setup as jetpacks are encouraged and real Star Wars battles are left to die. Add to this the fact that weapons are strewn around the map via tokens for you to pick up, and included in these might be the ability to play as a hero or jump into a vehicle.

Playstation 2 could allow you to see the ship, run up, and climb into it. Why is this so difficult for a current gen system to do? Oh, it's not? It's just because DICE put out an inferior product?

Do everyone a favor and avoid this title so that EA gets it into their head that people want games of quality, not just a "jingly key" game (shiny and noisy, but ultimately devoid of meaning).
