Spirit of the North is an adventure without directed objectives. Infuse Studio exchanges hooded figures for a lone fox whose basic existenceSpirit of the North is an adventure without directed objectives. Infuse Studio exchanges hooded figures for a lone fox whose basic existence is made all the more interesting after interacting with a spirit Together you will traverse extreme landscapes and overcome natural obstacles to reach the source of a strange ribbon esque red mist that resides over the sky. The opening moments of the game are dedicated to becoming use to the game within a snow filled tundra and explore the fox’s limited moves that covers sprinting, swimming, and letting out some barks. The adventure really begins after an encounter with a fox spirit who imbues the animal with the power to gather energy from plant life and use it as a key to open the next area. That energy can be used to reveal cave murals that present the history of the land and people who once thrived once upon a time but surrendered to a mysterious plague that continues to corrupt all that it touches. You’re constantly moving forward and the red trail in the sky gets larger and more imposing as you near your final destination. The layout of the game involves a series of large puzzle based areas between linear paths and only by manipulating carved stones and environmental obstacles will you be able to advance to each new zone. At certain parts of the adventure, you’ll be led to special shrines that unlock new abilities like an air dash and a bark that can dispel the plague to assist in solving some of the more advanced puzzle solutions. Spirit of the North start slow in the beginning, but once you reach the fifth chapter it significantly ramps up its puzzle-platforming stylized gameplay that’s connected to clearing up corrupted areas as a result of the plague. You’re going to be doing a lot of moving around and jumping in your quest and Spirit of the North accomplishes the majority well. The fox moves smoothly and can endlessly sprint to cover large distances. Jumping however is is a challenge that makes most of the late game areas more irritating than they should be just because you lose control of the fox win mid air. So this makes you spend more time than necessary lining up the fox in the direction you want to move. Despite challenges at the existence of certain puzzles and jump over heavy sequences, Spirit of the North remains difficult to put down. It inspires the (just one more game) as the game introduces new puzzles and environments while the red ribbon mist got larger. The places you’ll see are pretty but empty which leaves you too little to discover. The setting of the game is beautiful and enchanting with a musical score composed by Ari J. The soundtrack is one of the better elements of the game because of its soft and gentle nature despite its repetitive nature that leads to distraction in areas that just use the same musical cue over and over until you leave the area. Spirit of the North Enhanced Edition is a charming adventure that stars a cute and fluffy fox exploring a lush landscape that has all but forgotten human existence. While I enjoy the game’s directioon, the end result shows a priority of beauty over beastly content which allow you to easily see its flaws. Invisible hit boxes and barriers make platform jumping more aggravating than enjoyable. There are also a number of areas in the game that are meant to appear epic in scale, but because environmental storytelling is limited to a handful of very specific objects, there’s no real point to explore because there’s nothing to see here. In the end it’s a solid game worth a play but it’s far from perfect Be sure to check it out on the Xbox digital store under new releases. It offers a lot to the eyes but falls a bit short in the meat and potatoes of gaming greatness. Expand
